When coming back from lunch we noticed RH Austin | The Gallery at the Domain Northside aka known as Restoration Hardware (RH). I am very familiar with this brand as it is very popular in Seattle, WA. I was very surprised to see a RH in Austin. We could not resist popping in for a short while. I am still in need of some bathroom items. Immediately, we noticed large chandeliers and furniture. I do not think these items were meant for a residential dwelling. It was nonetheless fascinating to peruse the store. Specifically, I was hoping to find bathroom accessories like cotton ball, Q-tip and toothbrush holders. Unfortunately, they did not have these items in store. We were greeted warmly and pointed to the part of the RH store we were most interested in seeing. Most of their bedding, sofas and drapes were in muted whites, beiges or off white. Off hand, I thought it would be the type of furniture and bedding Kim Kardashian would likely purchase. RH is not for the faint at heart with regard to price. Their pricing was a bit to rich for my blood. I do not remember RH being quite that expensive. They do have nice things. read more

The vibes from most of the staff here... terrible. 0 stars for the snobbery and "we don't have time for you" attitude. The only person who seemed to want to earn my business in an honest and helpful way was the kind young gentleman greeter in the front. Like many other reviewers it just seems like the peeps here don't want to work or even look up and say Hi how are you. Basic retail sales 101. In college I worked part time at a high end furniture store. Customer service was #1 and constantly checked on. I was super excited to visit this flagship location and get some guidance in furnishing for some key statement pieces from here. That fell short real fast. We got "assigned" a gal who seemed very uninterested in helping us. She kept asking in a weird way if we were ready to buy and I was like I don't even know what you have nor sizes, costs. The vibes were very off putting like she had better places to go yet NO ONE else was in the store. The pieces we were looking at she gave no more info on what it is. What aesthetic we were going for. The salesmanship and sincerity was totally lacking. My hubs and I were pretty bummed about the experience here. We came home, visited our local store and immediately 3 people came up to greet us, ask if we had any q's. 1 salesperson drew up our space, told us options on how different table shapes would fit depending on 8-10 people sitting. Asked about the colors of our floors, chairs we were thinking of, rugs.. etc. We got more kindness and helpfulness out of the 15min at our local RH store than this place. We definitely WON'T be back here to waste our time or our hard earned money. Management needs to run a basic customer service session at this location. read more

The store is gorgeous, lots of options to choose from. But if you are thinking of getting some color pops for your home this is not the place. Everything from furniture to home decor is in muted color. We got the membership and had and appointment with their designer. El was very courteous and listened to our needs. The outdoors furniture heights are very low. So we had to skip those for our home. read more

You come in looking for good quality furniture and she completely dismisses your questions, even when I was showing interest in seriously buying a piece of furniture. Full disclosure, I cannot attest to the customer service, as I only visited on my lunch break to explore the wonderful interiors. This feels like a wonderful elegant timeless furniture emporium and I was transported to another era... in a villa somewhere. All of the representatives walking around were very kind, allowing me to soak in the ambience without giving me that creepy "you're going to steal because you're black" vibe. I think I'll buy my finishing touches from here- think knobs and fixtures. read more

This store is awesome! I've never seen a Restoration Hardware so big! It's a stand-alone building with 4 levels and practically everything RH offers inside for you to see. Many many styled rooms and various things. It's gorgeous! If you are a fan of the RH aesthetic, and you find yourself in Austin, Texas, this is a place you're going to need to make your way to because it's gorgeous. The wall of mirrors as I called it reminded me of a modern Versailles and is gorgeous on a sunny afternoon with light streaming in while you go up the main stairs between each of the four levels amongst ornate mirrors and glass chandeliers hung at varying heights to catch the light. The top floor (number 4) is an outdoor patio area with water features where you can see the setup for an outdoor patio space in many different looks and designs. A really nice touch! I've never seen RH patio furniture in person so it was a cool thing to see. A few individuals greeted my friend and I to see if we needed help but we had honestly come to browse for ideas and sit on the furniture - I'm from out of town so she wanted me to see the large size of the store and most of the patio furniture on the top level. read more

Love love love the store! I like their furniture but I love visiting the store even more! It's a destination in itself. And if there was a cafe, like in Chicago (the RH there operates a cafe and a restaurant inside), or some other communal events space, I would be here everyday. I would move to North Austin to be closer to it. If you want a music lounge by the day to lift your mood up or treat yourself to something feel-good, now you know where to go! And oh yes, their furniture is quite unique in its coastal mansion vibe and classic. They do have rare warehouse sales at a different location so look out for those if you're considering buying. read more

They obviously do not care about sales, or know who their clientele is. I went in to purchase items for a couple rooms in my house I had just built and they never acknowledged me. I asked for help as I was interested in several things and wanted to purchase and have delivered. No one I spoke with was interested in helping me. Apparently you have to make a purchase over 15k or they aren't interested in your business. Your loss. I went to another high end furniture store and got great service and they were happy to take all my money! I suggest hiring better sales people. For as snobby as they were, I doubt their yearly wages give them any reason to be so.. lol read more

This place is huge! They didn't have the curtains I was looking for - kind of sad that when a place is 65,000 square feet and doesn't stock some of their items. Only a few items had price tags. The Austin location now ships all local purchases to Houston to be stored in a warehouse before delivery. Delivery occurs haphazardly and never on time as all items are brought from Houston. How ludicrous is this? Warehouse space is available in Austin but RH doesn't want to pay the Austin rent. So they burn up fossil fuel there and back and, today, my delivery was 6 hours late. I'm an interior designer and they have lost my business as well as my clients' business. read more

Restoration Hardware furnished my second home in park city. They cannot figure out how to ship product once it is purchased. That's all they do, sell furniture and deliver it. They can even look at inventory availability and have dates when it will be sent out and still can't get it done. My last order was over nighted twice and they still screwed it up. Nine days later, the order is open, I still don't have the product that was to be overnited. How can product be overnighted twice and still not get delivered in 9 days? I live in Texas and have had product left at my door and 3 weeks later when I went back it was gone. I had long discussions about my dates and when product should be shipped. They screwed it ip every time. These guys are terrible at delivery of product. They have a beautiful showroom and nice products. They have no quality control measures. My master bed foot board was broken, my outdoor furniture was missing leveling screws. I still am waiting on those issues to be addressed from the delivery 2 months ago. Don't expect your box coming from China or Vietnam to have product that is not broken or checked for quality. They will deliver broken products and ask what you want to do about it. These guys will be out of business if they can't get the delivery chain under control and have the ability to actually get product that is not damaged to the customer. They have high turn over. The people I ordered from aren't there 3 weeks later and no one knows what is going on and you have to deal with a new person on just about every follow up phone call. read more

High end show room but low quality furniture. We ordered a leather sofa and a leather chair in October. The sales person was very nice. We were told this is a custom order that takes about 8 weeks to deliver. Unfortunately, our furniture arrived damaged. RH was very apologetic and said they would fix it. Until the replacement came, they left us the first damaged couch and chair. Again, it took 8 weeks. When the replacement arrived it looked like out of a Goodwill store and made the first damaged sofa and chair almost look good. Even the delivery guys commented on the damage and said they have always problems with these sofas and chairs. We refused this delivery and contacted RH. This time they were not so accommodating and gave me the run around and told me it couldn't be so bad as I described. I got in my car, went to RH and showed them the pictures I took of the furniture I refused. The sales person and managers were shocked about the condition and promised to fix it. It would only take 8 weeks, maybe a little longer because this time they wanted to inspect it before they delivered it to my house. Needless to say, the third sofa and chair did not run through an inspection. They arrived damaged again and looked as bad as the second delivery with cracked leather with the filling showing underneath and small rips and tears. When I called in again, I was told that I seem to not understand what a distressed leather looks like and that I clearly don't want a distressed look. They said I should look into choosing another leather. She completely ignored the fact that the leather was ripped and completely missing on one side of a corner of the chair. These damages were suddenly called "a distressed look" and I was obviously a little too picky and had unrealistic expectations of how a $6,500.00 sofa and chair should look like. Since we didn't seem to speak the same language and I didn't see the damages as "a charming distressed look", I asked for a return for a full refund. The (first) sofa and chair were picked up, no refund. I called multiple times and was always promised to get a call back that never came. When I finally talked to someone, I was told that the refund would be processed not when they pick up the furniture at my house, but when it arrives back in their distribution center in Ohio. I am in TX. At this point they clearly didn't wanted to be bothered with me anymore. I had to do multiple phone calls and threaten to involve the Better Business Bureau if I didn't receive a refund right away. They had the furniture back in their possession and they owed me money. After days on the phone and endless "I'll see what I can do" and "It's out of my hands" conversations, they refunded everything but the leather cleaner. After even more phone calls I might get this refunded as well, who knows. If you are into shopping for furniture, make sure to ask where the furniture comes from. Overseas translates to China. That's right the high end leather Cambridge collection is manufactured in China. Also ask for their warranties. RH doesn't give you a warranty, they will tell you they make it right. Most of my house is RH. While I think it's beautiful it's an absolutely pain to take care of. I feel like I've spent more time maintaining this furniture then enjoying it. Recently we moved and while we took great care to protect our outdoor furniture set the creatures got under our covers and destroyed our cushions. We've used this set twice. Costing us about 9.5k per use. So now we've decided to refinish the outdoor furniture and bring it indoors. I got everything inside, I just needed a side table to complete the look. Looked on RH online and the one I wanted was on sale. Figuring I could save the $200 shipping charges and have the tiny end table shipped to the store. I drove over to the store to order, the sales people were kind when they told me no but the policy is ridiculous. In order to get a 22 inch squared, low profile, absolutely tiny end table that cost $288 on sale, cost me an additional $200 to have shipped. I'm sorry RH there are too many people making exact copies of your gear for me to continue to pay your insane prices. That shipping charge cost you a long time customer. Like I told the girl in the store I'll have a knock off made for a fraction of the price. In the past we bought rooms full of furniture and in that situation I completely understand the policy and it makes sense to me the customer. This time it doesn't make sense your store employees should be able to use common sense. We are planning to buy a house in the next two years, when we do I imagine will need more furniture. I will absolutely be looking through your catalog for inspiration to decide what to have made or buy else where. read more

Maybe someone will at least acknowledge me then? I've been debating about writing this as it was a humiliating experience that I would rather not talk about, but it needs to be said. I walked into RH in Austin to purchase a cloud couch. I was assured by the girl that I previously spoke with that she would set me up with an appointment. I got there and told them who I was and they introduced me to the sales person who would be helping me. That person thought I was someone else who was making a large purchase. When I told him I wasn't he then acted like he had to go and I could just purchase the couch online. Upset and confused I left the store, I then went back in because I wanted the couch... I walked up to a group of sales people and asked them if I could somehow purchase the couch today in store. They looked startled and said "yeah sure" and gave me another sales person. Long story short, I now have a couch that is too short because that guy told me the measurements wrong and I can only assume it was because he no longer cared since I wasn't the person making a huge purchase. Terrible customer service in this store - sales associates were cold/rude and not welcoming in any way whatsoever; they actually made my wife and I feel like we were an inconvenience even though we were prepared to spend $8K on a modular Cloud Collection sofa. Extremely limited examples of their product options in the store. They sell 3 fabrics across 16 colors and 2 different fills yet have 1 fabric, 2 colors and 1 fill on display. We came in here to shop for a new sofa. The sales staff ignored us, no welcome greeting (customary for our area), no one asking if we needed assistance. They made us feel like we weren't worthy to shop there. As for the displays, they are all boring shades of beige and grey mostly, most of them looked like they had a slipcover on them. The sofas were enormous, they must be made for giants, it will swallow you whole if you are petite. They intentionally make your price invoice confusing so that they could secretly charge you extra money on your credit cards! Very bad and unethical seller! Will not buy from them ever again! This place should be called Restoration Hardware Mansion. The outside and inside of this store are impressive. The exterior is better than the Archer hotel next door. The staff member inside said that people come in all the time thinking that it is the hotel. The store is four floors of expansive indoor displays. You could spend hours in this place. The best part is the roof top oasis on the fourth floor. You will find all their exterior décor arranged out there. The view of the domain area is impressive, as well as the ambiance with the sound of the water features bubbling away in the background. I wish they had a café on the top floor with coffee and drinks. This would be an amazing place to sit back and relax with a cold frappe. The mirrored staircases with glass chandeliers is also bedazzling. The price tags are $$$$, but it's a fun place to take a look and dream about the possibilities. read more

Ok... to start my wife had been eyeing up the perfect table for our new home for months. It is the reclaimed wood and zinc top table. When it came time to purchase the table we went to the new location at The Domain. Gorgeous doesn't sum it up... great new building with excellent people in the store. Helped by numerous people going out of their way to make us enjoy the experience. We had one question: Will the 120 inch table fit? We sat down with a designer and he looked at our homes blueprint and we discussed the difficulties of the table but in the end it would fit and look great. We explained multiple times about it needing to be upstairs and that the stairway makes it a pretty tight fit. They then got on the phone and contacted the delivery personnel to see if it would be possible. Promising us it would fit and we would receive it in two weeks we purchased the table. We also purchased the "White Glove Delivery" that we are told has to be purchased for $200.00. Not a big deal and well worth it to get everything how we want it. We left the store happy and eagerly waiting for our new kitchen table. This all happened on Sept. 17th. Now jump to Tuesday, Oct. 11th (well past the two weeks promised). The movers get here at the scheduled time. The table was assembled and ready to bring into the house. Problem was there is no way to move a 120x40x31 inch table up stairs and around a 90 degree corner. Instead of deciding to disassemble the table and take it up piece by piece they continued to try and make it fit thru our home. Damaging the walls in our hallway and denting our brand new wood floors. The moving company did not bring enough men to do the job in the first place and completely dropped a 300 lb table in the foyer of the house. Realizing it would not work they put the table back in the truck and told my wife they would go check something and be right back. They then got into the truck and just left... leaving their clipboards and everything. They then called us saying there is no way the table will fit and that we need to purchase a smaller table. I convinced them to try again on Friday the 14th after disassembling the table and bringing enough men to handle a 300 lb table up stairs. Friday they show up with 4 men and the table in pieces, get it upstairs... tight fit but we all got it with creative thinking. Less than 20 minutes table was assembled looking pretty good. To deal with the damage they sent a gentleman out to repair our walls. I do not want to seem like he did a bad job with the repair but anyone who spends time with sheetrock knows you will never be able to match textures perfectly. So I now have the first wall when coming in my house looking like crap. Dealing with the dent in the wood floors is the next matter that has not been resolved yet along with my electronic deadbolt that has a piece broken off and missing. At this point I just want to throw the damn table out of my window (in pieces obviously) because this has been way too stressful. Our house is damaged with promises of repair which will be sub-par to original and out $200 for such great "White Glove Delivery". We should be enjoying our new purchased table but instead have to deal with the stressful process of repairing our home. I say avoid delivery all together and purchase somewhere else because they force this service on you. At least when Lowe's botched my refrigerator delivery they compensated us with 10 percent off our purchase. If you expect to pay for professional service than you will be sadly disappointed. read more

I love Restoration and have a lot of their furniture. I was recently very disappointed with their service I once thought was great. I returned some curtain hardware to a nearby store. Andrea was quick and said I would see the refund on my cc in a few days. Well a few weeks went by and I received a gift card for the $80 refund in the mail. Annoyed I called customer service and they wouldn't help me and told me I needed to call the store. I called the store and Austin who was very rude and unhelpful told me they couldn't do anything. I explained the situation and how we just moved to Austin and they had been sitting in my car but it's not easy for me to get to the domain from where we live with 3 kids. Again he could have cared less, I asked to speak to a manager and he said oh I already talked to Andrea and this isn't or problem and nothing is going to be done. Luckily it's only $80 but with the amount of money I've spent there I was disappointed and so discouraged with how I was treated. I will never go back to the domain in Austin even if it's the only restoration by my house. When restoration has prices like they do I expect my service to be top notch and this was far from that. read more

I have tried to give RH the benefit of the doubt - but every time I've been in (6-7) times it is the worst customer service! Especially from the group that gathers around the table at the front entry. You can tell they only want to serve interior designers there to buy entire rooms for their clients. Anyone else is not worth their time. The lady yesterday was literally antagonistic when I told her I was there to look at fabric samples for a glider (I had already called and confirmed they had them) and she insisted they did not until she looked it up online and said "oh yeah we do have those." This is after she was rude as we tried to get in the door - already locked when Store was still open for 30 minutes. They are useless there without laptops or iPads and just tell you exactly what you can read online without any further detail because they know so little about the products. I will say the lady on fabric floor was nicer - but the entry left such a bad feeling for me there was no way I was going to spend money there. I was planning on over $3000 worth of purchase - but clearly that is not enough for them to offer any level of service. They also nickel and dime their customers charging even for small fabric samples - when you can't even see the product you want on the floor - only online! And let's not even talk about shipping. They also don't have online reviews of products on website. If I can't even sit in a chair I'm buying online is at least like to read reviews of others that have. I will stick with Mitchell Gold and Four Hands were they seem to actually care about their customers. read more

Update: I had initially given RH a one star review for their terrible customer service policies on furniture that did not meet promised quality standards. After a lot of persistence and time educating myself about the business, I was able to talk to Julie who was amazing and accommodating and was able to resolve our issue fully. I would still be cautious buying anything RH calls "custom" (i use scare quotes because their use of that weird can be specious) but if you find the right person to help you, you can get some nice, if overpriced, furniture that is difficult to find with national brands. read more

Just went to the RH in the Domain. The store is beautiful. All I wanted to do was actually see their dinnerware. I thought for sure they would have their dining tables set up so you can see their dinnerware and the different color combos. I knew I couldn't actually buy and walk out with my purchase. It is crazy to me that they do not. I planned on purchasing 20 place settings along with serving pieces. Looks like I'll be going somewhere else to make my purchase. read more

This store is more of a showroom, not a retail location. The staff is cold and not very helpful in general. I love RH products, but rarely buy at this store. I have much better luck at the outlet in San Marcos or on eBay. We went to purchase patio furniture, and even with this massive store, they only have matchy-matchy stuff to view and sit on. The wood finish I was looking for was not on display. I had to look at a 5 x 7 swatch of wood to see if I might like the color. I get the matching, mirror layout of the staged rooms is a much better aesthetic presentation. But for people who actually want to see something before they spend $10 grand, not the best idea if you want to sell something. read more

I echo the terrible customer service reviews here. I have purchased many things from RH and was even registered here for my wedding years ago. I experienced horrible customer service then, and sadly it doesn't seem to have changed at all in the last 6 years. Most recently, I visited the Domain store to see a large piece of furniture in person before purchasing. When I arrived, they told me to come back because they had just opened 15 mins prior and none of the sales people were available to help yet...!? I didn't show up BEFORE they opened so I thought that was an odd thing to say when your only goal is to SELL furniture-why would you turn someone away!? Anyhow, I went to get a coffee and returned about 30mins later. It's annoying but fine that they don't have all products on site to see (although again odd bc it is a huge store/showroom so if they can't fit at least one example of most pieces of furniture there then I have no idea where they could). So they didn't have the piece I wanted to see but showed me other things from that collection so I could get a sense of the finishings, colors, etc. However, it became obvious while I was there that there is incorrect product information listed on their website about the very piece I wanted to purchase! So no way was I going to buy a $1k hutch that was non-returnable until they sorted out the correct dimensions and shelving configurations. The salesperson I was assigned was unhelpful in this regard so she had to bring someone else over (supposedly a RH product expert) who also couldn't figure it out, so they emailed their warehouse to confirm. I followed up with my "assigned salesperson" two days later and they still weren't able to confirm the correct dimensions, and now a week later we still have no information and I have no update from said "assigned salesperson". This entire experience is absurd. On principle alone I don't want to buy the furniture now and I'm even less likely to do so given the other reviews/comments about the poor quality levels. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IMAGINABLE. Beautiful store but good luck finding a sales person to help. Get ready to beg. Sales people had no idea of where things were and had scant knowledge of their product lines. They had to continually go on their website to answer questions about options and configurations. We had been on line and knew what we wanted and went in the store to see the product in person. We were ready to buy that day and just needed to pick out fabric and proper size sofa as well as a bedroom suite. We had room dimensions with us. The sales person turned us over to the "design team". They started a long spiel about integrated services etc. and when we told them we knew what we wanted and just needed fabric selection and size info for the sofa, the leader of the team suddenly lost interest and walked off leaving us with his clueless assistant. We asked to do a simple layout for the couch but she insisted we needed a CAD drawing--FOR ONE PIECE OF FURNITURE IN A SINGLE ROOM! A week later when we had received nothing we called and were told she was very busy and hadn't had the time. Well that pissed me off a little and I decided to call the store manager. It took me three calls just to get in touch with that person. When we finally got the "design team's CAD drawing" it looked like a line drawing done by a child. It took us damn near a month to get that store to take our order. Next time I go out and spend 20k on furniture I think I will go to a store where the sales people are knowledgeable and responsive and where they actually want to finalize a damn sale!
