I have been reluctant to write this negative review, but I feel that anyone trying to sell their piano through Steve should be very careful in their dealings with him. I have no knowledge of his skill in piano tuning or teaching so this review does not refer to those activities. We signed a "Consignment Agreement" with Steve to sell our piano early last May for "$3,000 net to" us after discussing the price with him. He was not very helpful in determining a price which surprised me as he deals in pianos all the time. I then looked online for similar pianos for sale and we revised the price to $3,200 with Steve crossing out the original price and writing in the new one. I specifically asked if he took a commission (which we expected), because it wasn't mentioned in the contract and he said he didn't, that he got free use of the piano for his lessons while waiting for it to sell. We then paid to have it moved to his studio. After 3 - 3 1/2 months I called to see if there had been any interest. He said no, but that the biggest sale times were the start of school (which it was then) and Christmas. I called a second time just before Christmas to inquire again and was told that a girl had expressed interest and did I still want to sell it for $3,200. We discussed the price and I again said I would like to sell it for as much as we could get for it (who doesn't?), and that $3,500 seemed reasonable from my research, but would consider dropping the price to $2,800 if that would be as high as anyone would go. In early January, after not hearing back, I called again to see what had happened and Steve said she didn't take it, but that someone else was interested and he also alluded to my pestering him with phone calls (three in eight months?). Within the week, he called back and said he had sold it and I could pick up my check in 2 to 3 weeks for $2,800. When asked, he said he sold it for $3,500, but was only giving me $2,800 as that was what I had said I would take. This led to a heated discussion, as you could expect. Remember the contract with "net $3,200 to" us as well as his assertion that he did not take a commission? During our discussion, he said several times that he would cancel the sale if that was what I wanted. He also wanted to know how I expected him to make a living if he didn't make anything off the transaction. Easy answer to that as I had expected him to take a commission and was surprised when he claimed he didn't. I would have been happy to okay a commission if he had put it in his contract. A contract that he pays no attention to. We finally agreed that I would get $3,000 and he said I could pick up my check at the end of the month. One final insult; when I picked up my check in early February, it was a cashier's check dated January 5, 2017. read more
