Brought in my MIJ Jazzmaster for a pickup swap and set-up. Guitar is playing great, a lot better sustain, and the pick-ups are miles better than the originals. I contacted Langley about my Schecter Tempest Custom for some minor work. I was switching hardware from chrome to black and needed the bridge saddles filled to match the fretboard radius. I also had him do a recrown of the frets. I do most work myself since I get nervous bringing my stuff to others for work sometimes, and am so glad I sent with ToneZone for my work. I brought my Ibanez GB10 archtop to Langley to have it set up. It was factory new, but after I changed the factory installed strings to higher gauge strings there were some intonation issues. Langley did a great job bringing everything into balance and fixing the intonation so my guitar is now in tune up and down the neck. What was a nice guitar out of the box now plays like a dream. He took great care of my instrument, his fee was reasonable, and he's a friendly, easygoing guy to work with. Two thumbs up. read more

I brought a brand new Stratocaster in to Langley at ToneZone for a setup and to have the trem blocked. I'm a guitar beginner, and it's difficult for me to objectively judge the quality of the work, but even I can tell that the string height is much more comfortable for me (he lowered the string height so it's easier to make chord shapes), and it's much easier to tune with the trem blocked. The time I spend learning is much more enjoyable because the guitar is easier to play, I don't have to spend as much time tuning, and I don't have any nagging worries about whether problems with my sound are the result of issues with the guitar (like intonation problems) or my lack of skill. Totally worth the very reasonable fee. I was so pleased, I brought my acoustic guitar in for Langley to set up, and he knocked it out of the park again! I'd been playing this guitar for a while, and the difference was night and day! Beyond the work, Langley is a very nice guy, and seems really passionate about his craft. He was very generous about sharing his insights into learning the instrument, guitar gear, and maintenance, and he shared his knowledge without patronizing the guitar noob (me). Langley is awesome! Under most circumstances I work on my own guitars unless it's something I am not comfortable doing, usually higher difficulty neck or fret work. I brought in a new Hofner contemporary 500/1 Beatle bass for some odd fret buzzing on the G string to another luthier who I used to take my instruments to (who never remembered me after 7 guitars and kind of overcharged after a while) and couldn't resolve my issue. I found ToneZone on Yelp and since I live nearby I thought I would take a chance because of the reviews. I left the Hofner with Langley who also couldn't deduce the odd buzzing issue on the G string but he recommended changing the offending string. I changed the string and the odd buzzing stopped (yay) however I discovered a high fret around #13 and contacted Langley again. He responded by sending my his notes on my bass outlining uneven fret issues for the whole neck. I knew I'd found the right guy. I ended up bringing him my Hofner again plus a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass that has the truss rod adjustment on the body side rather than at the headstock (which is a real pain to access). The Hofner no longer buzzes and plays like a dream plus the Geddy Lee J plays like it did when it was new 15 years ago. He told me he would set it up according the Fender factory specs and that is what is feels like again. I will be taking all of my guitars to Langley in the future to keep everything in excellent playing shape. Thanks for the excellent work! read more

I've taken several guitars to Langley at ToneZone over the last two years, some beaters but also some very nice acoustics, a PRS Hollowbody II, and a 1977 Les Paul. Langley always does a wonderful job setting them up and making sure the action and intonation are perfect. They play wonderfully fast with NO BUZZ. Langley's care around the electronics and fretboard are second-to-none. And it's clear he likes talking guitars, because I'm always there about a half-hour longer than I anticipated! I purchased a bass from Sweetwater about a year ago. It came in good condition but after playing during that time I thought it might be a good idea to take it in to a luthier to check out the E string hitting the frets. I took it to the ToneZone and am so glad I did. Langley looked at it and said that actually my A D and G strings were quite high off the fretboard. So he tuned it up for me and did a great job. My playing has actually improved on songs that use those higher strings after he adjusted them. To sum, if you want to just tune your bass or have a potential issue, you can't go wrong taking it here. Rates are affordable and the service is excellent. read more
