This is a music destination, the likes of which are really rare these days. The people that work here are enthusiasts and you can regularly see them working on various instruments in their open shop. They also have a great set of studios for lessons, and a performance space. The only downside is that the teachers are all very busy and booked up and it's hard to find a slot (and there is no centralized booking or online system so you need to ping each teacher separately). This is a wonderful place that should be top of your list for instruments, repairs and lessons. read more

I met a new friend here. We've been traveling around the same circles for a while but never met. She mentioned on FB that she was having her Ukulele tuned up here and we decided to meet. It was my first time in this shop. Wow, what a great little music store. They've got a ton of Ukuleles and other instruments as well. I brought my Ukulele because my E peg was buzzing when I play it. He had my ukulele fixed in less than two minutes and didn't even charge me! Now that's what I call GREAT customer service! I will be returning for my future musical needs. I'm eyeing a banjolele that I spotted while my friend finished up her transaction. I do recommend this shop, they are friendly, give good custom service that you just can't get at the big box music store. read more

A friend recommended I go here since I am in the market for a new banjo--couldn't believe my luck walking into this space! Was very attended to by the staff who answered all my questions and will be returning here soon. Highly recommend! read more

Dropped off a violin for a shine and repair, zero communication from the shop, dropped by to pick it up, they first couldn't find it then after finding it, they still haven't touched it yet. It's been over 2 weeks! At least a text or call to communicate the delay would be nice. Nothing. Asked in person what's a reasonable timeline and they said they don't know ‍ Let's see how much longer they're going to take...will update the review accordingly. 9/9/25: decided to pick up my violin and take it to another more reliable music store to get it done in a more reasonable timeline. Honestly not sure why this place has so many 5 star reviews, most likely all friends and family reviews so beware. read more

I recently bought a used Kanilea ukulele for my wife and she absolutely loves it, The lady who helped us was very friendly and helpful. I've frequented this store many times in the past and the owners are very helpful each time. We've got to support the good small businesses and this one is well worth our help. read more

We are long term renting a trombone for my 5th grader who is new to the instrument and to music playing! The process ran like a well oiled machine. She got a one on one tutorial for her specific instrument ; not rushed. The payment plan makes this beautiful instrument affordable and if she does stick to it the payments go towards the purchase. How clever is that! read more

Great shop for student instrument accessories and books. Very helpful staff and one very large dog!

Amazing place. Just bought a guitar and a stand. The guitar is quality, but the service is uncanny. You cannot can it. Come in, talk to Jake, and get yourself an instrument. Learn music, have fun, be free, eat oysters. read more

Great Customer Service and Knowledge I came here on a whim while I was passing by because I was curious about acquiring my first flute. Reader, I am so happy that I did. I would go on to rent a Yamaha 200 ADii from Scott, which they eventually let me trade in for a Pearl-501 with a split-e mechanism. James was super-friendly about chatting with me about the instruments and checking them out for me. Valerie was especially helpful not only with customer service, but also with giving me embouchure tips and suggesting practice techniques. All in all, I had a wonderful experience renting from here. I find myself in the habit of stopping by when I'm in town, and will head here first the next time I want to try my hand at a new instrument! read more

So we did the rent to own program with Lamorinda Music for my son's violin three years ago. We weren't sure how quickly he would grow, but of course it was slow and now we own his first violin. I absolutely love how you can choose to rent a used or new instrument though (and they will even order a new one for you if they don't have it). For me, if we might end up owning it, I want to start with it new. They did a fantastic job fitting him and letting him try out the instrument and are available for repairs and tuning (we didn't need either). They taught him how to properly care for the violin before we took it home as well. Fast forward three years to today, it's time to size up. We stopped by to find out our options and now we can trade in our smaller violin and the value can be applied to the larger size. We can either rent the remaining value of the new violin or purchase (with a discount if you purchase). Super helpful staff, great instruments, and an amazing rental program that you know you aren't throwing away money with if your child sticks to music long term. Also reasonably priced if your child does not end up sticking with it ($20 per month for used and $25 per month for new). The violins are also amazing quality. Even our teacher commented on how nice his violin is. They also have a great selection of guitars and did a fantastic job helping my older son pick out his first guitar. The shop has great parking and is easy to get to in downtown Lafayette. Store is smaller, but well stocked and clean. Quality place with a wonderful staff. I suspect we will be customers for many, many more years to come. read more

My son went in looking for a guitar rental. Cost like $50 for 2 months. Great deal to see if he likes it before he buys.

They have a great selection of supplies and are knowledgeable and very helpful. They offer referrals to any other related services you may require. This is a very organized and well run company. I highly recommend them. Jeff Reber, In Tune Piano Services read more

Just had my first experience with Lamorinda Music and wow, two big thumbs up! They were able to put new strings on my cello while I waited (I was there on Friday midday so it was fairly quiet). The staff at Lamorinda were exceptionally kind and generous with their time. I can't imagine a better experience.

Great local store. Too bad that covid made it impossible to go in the shop and look at all the stuff they have. So far they have carried all the books we needed. Sure you can find the same online but nothing beats supporting your neighborhood shops. read more

Lamorinda music is well run music store which supports music education to many students which will be an asset to them through their life. This place is absolutely fantastic, the people who work here all seem to have great knowledge of the instruments they are selling or renting. I rarely write reviews, but Lamorinda Music makes me want to write great review about them. They are very professional in customer treatment, instrument repairs, and instrument rental programs. I am glad that this store is not far from us so that I can visit this store whenever we have issues with our kids' instruments. If you are around Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Concord, Martinez, I highly recommend this shop for anything related to music. read more

This music store is a small locally owned business in the downtown area. It has plenty of parking! The owners are supportive of and involved in our excellent local public school music programs. There is a multiple room studio where people teach private music lessons that many local students use to supplement the lessons at school Every book my daughters have needed for school and has been available, which is great given we often need it ASAP. They also restring snapped violin strings for free if you pay the $4 (?) to buy the string there. Really wonderful customer service. The other service that is hugely useful is they have a rent to own program. I currently pay $27 a month for a violin but when we build up enough money (somewhere in the $400 range) the entire amount that I paid in rent will be applied to the cost of violin. And if she grows (there are 1/2, 3/4 and full size violins) the money I paid will apply to any of the 3 sizes, not just the size we are currently renting. We are renting the 3/4 size but will buy the full size when she hits 5 feet, really helps out financially read more

Great place to for all sorts of music-related stuff. I went there to check out violins for my student. Although the employee was okay, Colleen herself was great! She understood all my needs and answered any questions I had patiently. They carry all sorts of instruments and saw many people looking around. They also carry student music books in store, which is quite rare here. I usually have to order my books online for my students, but I know I can come here in a pinch. read more

My wife and I drove to Lafayette yesterday on a whim because D'Addario was running a promotion for their NYXL strings and their new string recycling program. Lamorinda Music was the closest music store that was supporting that promotion. The staff was great! My wife is the real guitar player, but has been almost universally ignored at other music shops we have gone to because "girls can't play guitar". There wasn't a whiff of gender stereotyping or guitar hero sexism from the staff at Lamorinda. They were nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. They also didn't have an attitude about the fact that we were there, ostensibly, to have free services done. They have a beautiful selection of new and used instruments at really reasonable prices and more ukuleles than I have ever seen in one place! They also have music classes and are very child-friendly. If you are looking for a music store with great selection and a great, helpful staff, I highly recommend checking Lamorinda Music out. We will definitely be going back! read more

Great place for all music lessons! If you're looking for a music teacher, John Blasquez is it!  He's an incredible teacher, musician and basically a computer wiz with all things music!  So he creates all sorts of easy-to-learn custom lessons for his students that are ever evolving.  This is SO helpful! I've been taking guitar lessons with him for a year now, and also some ukulele.  He teaches many different instruments and really knows music and teaching.  I had been going to the Lamorinda music Lafayette studio for lessons, and now with social distancing, he does virtual lessons that work out fabulously.  John's very patient, encouraging, supportive and fun!  He's SO great teaching kids AND adults too.  He really customizes lessons to what style and interests I have, and I always end the lessons feeling challenged and excited about music. https://www.lamorindamusic.com/our-instructors "John Blasquez" john@singingwood.com read more
