I LOVE the products from this store but my gripe is this: any store with 'hardware' in its title should have hardware in stock. They have NONE in stock-everything has to be ordered and even though they are 'supposed' to carry the hardware they will still charge you shipping even if they ship it to the store. Expect a two week ship time. Additionally a $200 umbrella stand we purchased here two years ago started disintegrating, finish peeling off to reveal rust underneath after a couple years on our deck-we live in Corte Madera (temperate climate, no snow, etc). They were nice enough to return it and deliver a new one to us, but we had to take pictures and send them in, mulitple phone calls over a three week period, different people handling the return means starting from zero with each one, pick up old one then deliver new one, etc. Should have been able to return it at the store. read more

Ok, while I am somewhat ashamed to admit it, I have a thing for Restoration Hardware. I remember back in the day when all your furniture was supposed to match and it wasn't cool to mix materials - so basically I was never cool. Now all the stuff I like has been dignified with outrageous prices and is apparently the thing to do. That said, the customer service at this store is so atrocious one might actually think they are trying to be outright rude - and this has been my experience on every occasion in which I have been in the store. Don't ya'll work on commission? Big mistake. You do realize that we can just come in, check out the product, and then go order online? read more

If you like paying a premium price for furniture made of wicker and canvas, and linen that resembles rice sacks this is the place for you. The only quality items not priced in the stratosphere are the lamps - but only when they are on sale. Should change the name to "Trendy and Trashy". read more

This place has appalling customer service. It's not clear who works here because no one even greets you when you walk in. It's almost impossible to get anyone to help you and when I try to flag someone down they don't even look up. Purposely try to ignore you. Restoration hardware has some great items to purchase and we have a lot of them in our homes. I would give the company 5 stars if not for 2 very glaring issues. The first is that the stores have next to nothing that can be purchased on the spot any more. It seems that everything is out of stock or on order. Even small items like a candle, towels, etc. The second issue with the Corte Madera store is the terrible service. Every time we go in to shop at the store all we get is attitude. Like the associates are better than everyone and they are doing you a big favor by helping or even talking to you. Perhaps this is why the stock is down by almost 50% this year. Wow, I'm shocked to see so many negative reviews. My experience was quite good. I saw a dresser I wanted to buy from their website. On a Sunday afternoon, I decided to visit the store to see it in person. Although the store was quite busy, I was immediately greeted, and asked if I had any questions. The store did not have the exact item I wanted, but did have the same line of furniture on the floor and I was able to get a general idea of the finish, color, etc. The person that helped me answered all of my questions (How wide, deep is the dresser). As I was walking around, looking at other things, I was asked by another person if I had any questions or needed any help. Went home that night, ordered the dresser online and got a confirmation email. The dresser came sooner than the estimated shipping date online. I was called multiple times by RH and the delivery team to confirm the delivery date/time. read more

I had the worst experience with ordering a custom fabric bed from Restoration Hardware (RH) store in Corte Madera. I must say that this company is totally profit centric and have no clue about customer service and customer care. I ordered a fog color velvet Fabric in store, not knowing they have several kinds of velvet in fog color. When I received the bed, I was shocked to see it is not the color I wanted to order. The bed color neither matched my existing furniture nor the color of my room. I contacted RH manager and notified them of the issue and my disappointment with the bed color. I was told that they won't be able to return the bed because I approved the order by receiving the invoice. I had no idea they have so many versions of Fog color velvet. The customer service representative never explained it to me and must have automatically chosen another similar color that was available. Of course, I mistakenly approved it thinking it was my original chosen material. I spent about approximately $25,000 on purchasing furniture for my new home from RH, and was planning to purchase my outdoor furniture from them. But no more RH for me, PLEASE! There are many other premium furniture providers with much better customer service. RH should learn customer care from Perigold and Nordstrom. read more

Roddy, the store's manager I think, has helped me so much to find the furniture and bed linen I was searching for. He is so knowledgeable and was generous with his time---I should have written this review months ago! I think there are others like me that at some point discovered that there WERE many things at RH that were neither overpriced nor "only for the rich" looking. I encourage you to find someone like Roddy who will take the time to help you to find the items that are very reasonably priced and who will be able to warn you off furniture that you will end up hating. I was amazed last spring when I couldn't decide on a particular coffee table and he went and got the store designer and the two of them said they would be happy to come to my apartment the next day so they could see what would be the best color and size. They were so inspiring when they came! And the designer, Linda I think her name was, gave me ideas about other questions I had in my home---this the two of them did---------for free!!! I've always met with intelligent and thoughtful advice from Roddy. I just wish I had written this sooner!!! read more

I purchased 4" weather- resistant sheet metal planters" about 3 years ago. I had to throw them in the garbage can today. The metal rusted and dissolved all the way through the sheet metal rendering them useless and an eyesore to look at. After about 1 year I noticed signs of degradation that worsened over time. I live in a mild climate and they were under the overhangs of my house. When I purchased these I had the expectation that they would last many years thus I was willing to pay the high price. I contacted Restoration Hardware customer service department and I was told since they were a few years old they would not replace or refund my money, but more than happy to place a new order for me! There's no doubt that RH has beautiful looking things, but unfortunately my experience with the quality does not match. We installed 2 flush bathroom medicine cabinets and towel bars. In the first year, one of the cabinets had a broken hinge. The door kept becoming loose, I would tighten the screws and eventually the hinge cracked -- apparently plastic that looks like metal. Our towel bars both pulled off the wall in about 2 years. On the upside, they are very helpful in getting replacement hardware, but this shouldn't even happen. When I went in about the towel bars the gentleman commented that "the hardware wars out after a few years". The towel bars in my parents' house were installed in 1960 and they are still hanging. We have RH towels that are great. I can't comment on the quality of the furniture. But when it comes to hardware, I will NOT go back. read more

After purchasing furniture and lighting for over a year and spending tens of thousands of dollars, I had an issue with a lamp. This was my first return. The customer Service was terrible. They were rude and argumentative. Completely unwilling to help me find a solution and arrogant in their culture of customer hate. I am extremely disappointed in this company and their unwillingness to help customers make right a flawed item. I was treated very badly. I will not do business with them again. My husband and I had an appointment with an interior designer at the store when they opened at 10 am. We were greeted by many people who kept saying hi and said they were really busy, without virtually any customer in the store. Then our interior designer arrived, Lisa. Make sure you avoid her if you go there. She was not pleasant, pretty short, asked right away what was our budget, and then when I asked about a fabric color I would have liked, she appeared happy to say that they don't make that color, without offering an alternative, without being creative or accommodating whatsoever. A dismissive, not friendly, not helpful interior designer. Given the total lack of chemistry, we asked for a different designer. Erice helped us and was much more pleasant. Overall though we left the store without buying the sofas we were looking for. I found that overall there isn't customer friendliness at RH, people there do not seem prone to help, and can't wait to say no. We went to Macy's and found an exceptional employee who helped us find the sofa we were looking for. Personnel attitude at Macy's was way more customer friendly and welcoming. read more

This store looks very pretty when you enter, but the service is horrible. I was treated so rudely when I had a simple, 30 second return that I will never go back. I don't get it because this is a chain store. I higher end chain store, but a chain store just the same. Why the workers feel like they should treat their customers so rudely is beyond me. If you like Restoration Hardware and want to go to a store rather than shop online, don't bother with this location. There is one in Walnut Creek that provides great service and you walk away feeling like a valued customer, not just someone who is wasting their time. read more

Love the RH style but omg, the attitude and interpretation of service @ corte madera today was indeed excruciating! I simply went in for some replacement towels (that I can clearly get elsewhere - same quality for much less) .... I needed to kill some time as he commute from Mill Valley to Piedmont @ 5p was unbearable .... It literally took me an hour to do what I could have done @ Target in 10 minutes! WTF? As other reviewers note, the iPad helper took forever to look up what I wanted (and I had already been on the website which was also laborious which is why I went to a store which was actually a less efficient experience) .... It took 3 different back and forth trips by the stock guy and still they didn't get it right .... I was apologizing as if I had made a mess of the order (my nature) but the reality was it was them and the ridiculousness of not being able to grab what I want and check out! Then, one of the towel colors was out of stock and when I asked if I could buy the display .... You guessed it, NO! I could have easily snagged it on the way out but thought i'd try honesty! NO! Then I had to request that the woman call me when it came in! She only offered for me to come back and 'keep checking'! Seriously? I am not a steppford wife ... Just an Oakland girl (Berkeley 4th st shop closed suddenly w/o notice) trying to buy a few overpriced towels. I'm OVER it! IF I buy again it will be online. I am appalled a gravely disappointed with my recent RH order. I purchase several furniture items after visiting one of their brand new flagship stores in Boston. After receiving notification twice that 1 of the items would arrive at my beach house, I drove their to spend the day awaiting the arrival of the item. Not only did it NOT arrive but no one called to let me know! After trying to call the delivery company several times, I called the store. Spoke with several people since no one seemed to be able to figure out what had happened, finally found out late in the day that the chairs had arrived with MOLD on them and had to be returned! NOT one person called to let me know and I have spent the past week trying to resolve this issue with "customer service:(NOT). I finally cancelled my entire order due to the lack of customer service. It is beyond me how this company can have such high end products with such horrible service!!! Still trying to reach the CEOS of the company to share my experience with them as I would think that they would want to know how poorly the entire experience was, and what a big sale they lost. We ordered the Haylan Wide dresser with hutch for $1,700.00 for daughter's bedroom. Saw it in person in the store and it was beautiful, just what we wanted. However, when it was delivered there were two problems. One of the drawers didn't close on the dresser, and the "hutch" (two velvet-lined drawers that attach as an extra piece to the dresser top) was a completely different color than the dresser. The dresser was a nice, weathered pale gray, but the hutch had a darker, much more distressed smoke color. Exchanged the dresser without issue, but they told me they couldn't do anything about the hutch not matching the dresser. Different lots, etc. But the two pieces are supposed to look like one seamless unit, and the obvious difference in color ruins the whole look!! I am very disappointed, we spent a lot of money and for the price I expected to get the look we saw in the store. Still a well-built, stylish dresser, and I don't think my 11 year old cares, but it bothers me a lot. This is the kind of inconsistent quality I would expect from cheap furniture, not from Restoration Hardware! read more

I have a $68 credit at this store and can't find a thing I need or want. Finally, after numerous visits I decided to purchase new bath & hand towels and couple of wash cloths. I made the mistake of taking them off the shelf to the cashier only to be told that they had to bring them from the stock room. They were short one bath towel and refused to sell me the one on display! I thought they were joking, but after reading other reviews I see I am not alone. The sales clerk wouldn't budge and never offered a solution.....like, "we would be happy to ship one to you when we get more in.". Nothing..... so I walked away very frustrated. I find this store dark, depressing and probably will end up eating my $68. read more

Absolutely awful on every level. Nothing is in stock, and they charge you shipping for stuff that ANY other retailer would gladly ship you for free (or at least ship to their store for you to pick up later for free). Have left on multiple occasions because service was lacking, and when I have bought, there has always been an issue. Buy something in the store, they ship it to you like 8 weeks later, and if you need to return it you can't return it in the store - you have to mail it back to the .com operation. Absolutely unacceptable in this day and age, especially for an allegedly high end retailer. Today was the last f'ing straw - went in there to pick up an item that I had called about earlier in the day, that was supposed to be on hold for me. It was not waiting for me, no one knew anything, and it was not in stock. Making matters much worse, the dried out husk of a sales "lady" went out of her her way on about a half dozen occasions to be an absolute jackass about it, as if it was my fault. I let the first several of them slide, because I was in a hurry, but finally I told them to keep their products and their awful attitudes, and go out of business. I will never, ever, ever, set foot in this hell hole again, and strongly recommend that anyone with a shred of self respect do the same. read more

Had the lovely pleasure of working with Mary Sadrieh at Corte Madera gallery. I have a passion for home decor and RH, but I'm not a designer and don't know how to pull a room together to make it look polished. Mary was warm, patient and asked me the right questions to understand my home, my taste, my lifestyle (I have a 6 year old boy (with friends)) and my overall vision. We sat at a table and viewed wood & color samples for an hour. She suggested I go home and put green painters tape down on the floors to give me an idea of how furniture would fit/flow. That was a brilliant idea - and I rearranged my layout plan because of it. Belgian Classic Slope Sofa, French Panel Double Door Cabinets X 2, Martine Tufted Armchairs for my dining room table. Since there was a sale on curtains - I decided to upgrade 14 panels. Mary was so complimentary of my final color choices - I laughed and only thought - where would I be without MY Mary? She made this experience truly wonderful. I'm sure everyone on the team would be as lovely to work with, but I can't say enough about MARY! read more

Purchased a platform bed and was told it was a custom order and would be delivered in 8-12 weeks. They called me in three days and told me they were going to deliver. It was the worst piece of junk I have ever received. I was told it was made in the United States, but was actually made in China. Very poor quality. They did pick it up and take it away but was questioned about it being a "custom made product". Be careful what you buy. Some of the products are of very poor quality. read more

After waiting 12 weeks for delivery of a RH tibetan rug which cost $3000, we were horrified to discover that the rug cannot be gotten wet without permanently staining. No one bothered to tell us this from the store before we bought it, nor was it written on the directions on the rug itself, which recommends "professional cleaning." After my daughter spilled a glass of water and a stain followed, I called in the professional cleaners, who could not take the stain out either. In spite of my complaints, the company will not take the rug back. We might as well have flushed $3K down the toilet because the rug is ruined. Do not buy their tibetan rugs - they are not meant to be on the floor in homes where actual people live. I am incredibly disappointed in this company's policy of not standing by their products and their willingness to take money for faulty merchandise. read more

They make you feeling very uncomfortable and I can't believe that they have to go next door for a stock check when there are sooo many available products inside the store - I saw towels on the shop floor that I would have purchased but then I was told that they are not for sale and had to check the stock next door and low and behold they didn't have any !!!!! I had to write this review in fact the service we have thus far received from Restoration Hardware prompted me to join Yelp! First my wife and I would have bought our furniture from one of the stores however trying get help in the store in Mission Viejo after many attempts was impossible. I don't believe I should have to try to make someone help me that does not care one bit about our business. Having said this we do like the furniture and instead of crying about it we went onIine and ordered our furniture that was January 8th, 2012. As of today February 17th we have still not received our furniture and according to their customer service person and the email we received may still not by April because they don't expect the furniture in now by March that is 4 months of waiting if you include the weeks they tell us it will take to deliver when they do get the items in.. Why sell furniture you don't have and why keep telling us three times, three different dates when the furniture will be available! The customer service person while nice kept to the script, we will be notified when the pieces we ordered come in and it will approximately two weeks after that when we will receive our order. I kept telling her this is not the way customer service should be, if you don't have the products tell us you don't, stop leading us to believe the furniture is coming and send us a another email two weeks later saying another two weeks! I feel that if Restoration Hardware does not have the furniture to sell please take it out of the show rooms or be honest and tell the customer it will be 1/3 of a year or more till you get what you ordered. This is just ridiculous and unfortunate for such a good company to do business so poorly. read more

I ordered a light fixture that ended up being WAY larger than described online. I had to pay $46 to ship it back and they never credited me until I called 2 weeks later. They then tried to only credit me for 30% of the purchase price and could not explain why that was!! I have called 4 times now and will have to file something with my credit card to see if I can get the rest refunded somehow. I will never order from them again, their return policy is the WORST!!! read more

It's 2012 and I just received not one, but two 4.75 pound plastic wrapped packets of Restoration Hardware catalogs via US mail. What are they thinking. That's so 1990's. If I need something from Restoration Hardware I go online or go to the store. I don't need more trees cut down, more toxic ink, and more paper to throw in recycling. Ridiculous and so out of touch. I applied to the San Mateo store last year, which is now closed. After you read this review you'll know why. The sales associates were rude and awkward when I told them I was there for an interview. I was interviewed by the store manager and Heidi, a manager who was visiting from the Corte Madera store. At the time, I was working for a luxury retailer and was more than qualified for the part-time position I had applied to. For some reason, Heidi kept trying to belittle my place of work and kept asking ridiculous questions that had nothing to do with the job. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. In the end, after about 20 minutes worth of Heidi trying to make me feel stupid, I asked her why the company was closing several locations and she was visibly offended. I have to give Restoration Hardware five stars for honoring their return policy. I was bowled over at their willingness to exchange an item for me that I had purchased two years ago. The item malfunctioned, and they just exchanged it for a new one. I had to present my receipt. So let this be a lesson to you, Yelp-ers: save those receipts! They just do not have their act together here. The sales staff doesn't know their product line and after perusing the website before going in, I know it much better. They are slow on their iPads and then they have to call the stock boy to get anything. It is excruciatingly slow and painful. I would just order all online to bypass dealing with the over botoxed, computer illiterate, wannabe designer, patronizing, arrogant, incompetent staff. Too bad I like the product so much. Just to let prospective buyers know, I bought Restoration's Del Mar collection of outdoor furniture. After three summers outside, being completely covered in the winter, the weave on the furniture is breaking and cracking. After three attempts to get Customer service to respond they told me that the furniture was too old to be covered by any kind of warranty. We paid more than six thousand dollars for this furniture and, certainly expected to get more than three years of use out of it before having any issues with the quality! Buyer beware! read more

Dishonest. I bought several thousand dollars worth of merchandise at their outlet store in Leesburg VA. At the end I also bought a leather kindle cover. When I got it home I found that they had unloaded a cover for an earlier version of kindle that is no longer made and not one that fitted the kindles that are now being sold and that I had. When I contacted RH they told me:"yes it is an obsolete version but so what. All sales are final." That is simply fraud. read more

My husband and I had a fantastic experience at this location last weekend... Melanie assisted us and she was top notch. We purchased a dining room table with her and later purchased chairs on line to pair with it. I usually order items from the website, but going forward I will make the drive from San Francisco to Marin to see Melanie. Her knowledge of the product along with her sweet demeanor was amazing.
