    Japanese Saws
    Lisa H.

They have everything and it's huge and help is around every corner! I love my local hardware store but i understand why everyone who works/has worked on my house over the last 2 decades loves this place. There are many stores like this but this place is not losing merch or staff- super stocked with anything and more and every brand~ ie Emtek, Ashley Norton door hardware and more, a full clothing and shoe area. BBQs and the Green Eggs section is huge, Didn't get to take in the out door patio stuff. The difference of big box chain store is this place has soul and the people are genuinely friendly & helpful. My unattended basket of over an hour (as i wandered and kept discovering more!) still intact and in it's location. They have that other stuff no one else has- and walk in and buy- in stock. I definitely waited too long to discover this store! I get it now! Definitely will return. I came to just get a Japanese tree branch saw. And picked up so much more!

Just for rental security deposits they started not taking Amex.

But with the demise of Sears, I had to do some researching to find out who sold it in the area. The only retailer that sold it was Ace Hardware, but the only stores that carried it were about 30 miles north or south of my house. With traffic in consideration, I decided to get it at Chase Ace. It's located on the edge of Downtown San Rafael. Driving up to it, this was one of the largest Ace Hardware's that I've been to and it has its own parking lot for about 15 cars. Seeing the garden supplies out front, I went into the building looking for my hose. I asked the worker at the door about garden hoses and she said it was located at the building at the opposite end. I was able to check out all the nice plants they had outside leading to the other building. After I entered, I saw the hoses three aisles in. Brought it to the counter, paid and I was on my way. I'll have an irritating experience so will avoid going there for a while, then there'll be something I need in the middle of a project and I'll decide to try again. Part of the problem is the store has limited stock and because of the small size, things are sometimes not easy to access or find- like up on the top of shelves so you need to get help to even see what they have. I will say they seem to have done re-organization and the layout seems a bit better- also the nursery has gotten better recently (plants look better and prices are easier to identify). Maybe just bad luck but today I needed a few spring planting items that I was pretty sure they carried. It turned out they were out of both of the products but I found substitutes that could work- especially since I didn't want to drive to Novato or downtown San Rafael. When I went to pay, after standing in a long line, I found the total came over $5 more than the shelf tags indicated and also they didn't accept the Ace Hardware gift certificate I planned to use towards my purchase so I cancelled the transaction. While I would love to shop locally, both for the convenience and to keep money in my community it's not worth the potential for frustration so will continue to go to Pini or the Chase locations for my hardware purchases

What began as a stressful situation -- a crucial screw falling out of my crutches, leaving me in a vulnerable and frustrating position -- quickly became a masterclass in what exemplary customer service looks like, thanks to Ace Hardware's staff member Ricardo. From the moment I walked in, Ricardo was kind, attentive, and completely unrushed. He took my situation seriously, listened carefully, and got straight to work finding a solution. He was patient and focused, methodically working through options until he found exactly the right fit. His resourcefulness was genuinely impressive -- this wasn't a simple fix, and yet he approached it as a seasoned problem-solver who takes real pride in his work. Most importantly, he succeeded. I walked out of that store on my crutches, fully functional and completely relieved, all because Ricardo refused to give up on what might have seemed like a small problem to some, but was a very big deal to me. This is the kind of employee who defines a store's reputation. Ricardo exemplifies everything you'd hope to find at a neighborhood hardware store -- expertise, warmth, and genuine care for the people he serves. The first guy put the piece in the matching machine and made our paint. It was too dark. So then he tried again - this time it didn't match at all. His solution - "oh well - that the best we can do." I asked if the machine was broken - we've never had this problem before. The first guy just shrugged and said it wasn't gonna be perfect. It wasn't even close! He basically said - take it or leave it. So I asked for a manager - first guy just wasn't capable of problem solving. I've been a regular Home Depot customer since we bought our home about a year and a half ago, and while I've always found the staff helpful, Miguel stands out as the most helpful employee I've ever worked with. I'm currently in the middle of my largest DIY project to date: adding cabinet boxes and shelving to all of our existing kitchen cabinets. The project required purchasing several large sheets of plywood, understanding the differences between them, and figuring out the most efficient and accurate way to have everything cut. Miguel supported me through every step of the process. He helped me select the right materials, handled a significant amount of the board cutting, and when he needed to step away to assist other customers, he made sure I was seamlessly taken care of by Trevor (who was great too!) so I was never left unsure of what to do next. Beyond his technical knowledge, Miguel brought such a positive, optimistic attitude to the experience. He was patient, thorough, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. Employees like Miguel are the reason I keep coming back to this Home Depot. He absolutely deserves recognition and a raise.

I specifically pointed out the clip issue when I brought it in originally and the kid apparently didn't pay attention, nor did they probably compare the old screen which I actually left with them, but is now disposed of. When I went in to speak to a manager they were kind of quick to offer a refund to get me out of there. To be fair they would need me to leave the screen, but I don't exactly want them to give me another screen that won't fit where the reference is disposed of - what will I do then? I just don't trust the Novato store and will have the San Rafael Chase store re-screen one and create duplicates. I said as much and they said nothing to reassure me. I want to point out a couple of things with the reply on Google reviews, supposedly by the owner. Why is there any kind of reply when the original was a rating with no review? Just for the 5 stars? When someone mentiones something specific they say to email and then when people say nothing they are busy celebrating. And of course they don't do that here, I guess Yelp users don't count even though it doesn't have the link that says claim this listing, they just ignore this site. And for those who had a key issue, I think that generic reply to email the company for training purposes is ridiculous. In this case the manager I spoke to could have said they would look at the situation to ensure it doesn't happen again, I am right there so that could be addressed before I go online to write this review, but it doesn't look like they care and just said "I don't know what happened" and most likely want to get rid of the customer. The "email us" reply is what big companies do who want to project an impression that they are responsive when they are not really. I don't buy it. Growing up in Novato I had the image that Pini is a nice local business that care about what they do, I don't believe that anymore. I'd like to support local business but not so much when I don't feel like they care about supporting me. The customer is not paid to do training. Why does it require a separate email taking our time when we already wrote detailed information in the review?
