Yelp Mexico Badge + Taco Crawl = ¡El mejor y delicioso día de todos!
Lunch time came around and it was hella hot and humid, especially, walking up and down along Avenida Revolución. I was down to eating more tacos with Yelp Buddies Isobel L. and Ran C., but I wanted somewhere indoors with AC, lol! Luckily, we decided to head back to Restaurante Caesar's.
Historical Foodie Fact: Only July 4, 1924, Chef/Hotel Owner, Caesar Cardini created the Caesar Salad, which later became a favorite salad amongst Hollywood and other celebrities, especially, when he moved his restaurant into the same location as his Hotel Caesar. Makes sense, since his restaurant décor gives off that old, glamorous black and white, 1920s Hollywood vibes.
1 Peso = $18 American Currency.
Drinks:
65.00 ($3.61) Virgin Pina Colada - Smooth, creamy and fruity tasty - a perfectly refreshing summer drink garnished with an orange slice and cherry on top.
25.00 ($1.39 each) Two Regular Bottled Waters (one for me and one for Isobel). I definitely miss the free, cleaned and filtered water back home, lol! Don't attempt to drink the (non-bottled) water in TJ or anywhere in Mexico, unless, you wanna encounter Montezuma's revenge!
80.00 ($4.44) Margarita (Isobel's)
90.00 ($5.00) Strawberry Martini (Ran's)
45.00 ($2.50) Unsweetened Iced Tea (Ran's)
35.00 ($1.94) Cafe Americano (Isobel's)
Complimentary bread served with buttery garlic flavored tapenade spread. The bread was crispy on the outside while remaining soft and fluffy on the inside. The tapenade spread was savory with a little bit of acidity to it, but still delectable, especially, with the salty, chopped olives mixed in.
95.00 ($5.28 each) Three small Caesar Salad portions as recommended by our sweet and fantastic waiter, Pablo, who also happened to recommend Las Ahumaderas for our fourth/final taco crawl (¡muchas gracias, Pablo!). Since we were still stuffed from our earlier taco crawls, the small portions were perfect, and we ended up getting three amazing desserts later.
Our Caesar salad was prepared and served tableside by Pablo. It was fun watching him prepare our salads while we worked our photo/videoing magic. At one point, Pablo tricked us into thinking that the olive oil he poured in was tequila when Ran had asked him what that clear liquid that was, lol! Such a sweet and funny guy that Pablo is!
The Caesar salad was scrumptious and refreshing! The dressing was perfect without tasting too sweet or tangy. Best of all, the Romaine lettuce didn't get soggy and stayed crisp throughout. Finished off with Parmesan cheese and crostini on top, the perfect salad for a hot and summery day!
85.00 ($4.72) Cajeta (Mexican caramel) Crepes - Omg, ¡muy, muy sabrosa! The crepes themselves were so fluffy and pillowy. The cajeta sauce was thick and sweet, especially, when mixed with the sweet coffee liqueur and rum. Served on the side with a scoop of vanilla and garnished with a sliced strawberry, topped with nuts and chocolate sauce on the side, ¡Recomiendo mucho conseguir esto!
70.00 ($3.89) Vanilla Flan served with its own caramel, cajeta and a sliced strawberry, sooo good! ¡Otra deliciosa recomendación! The flan itself is super creamy and smooth. Paired with its caramel sauce and cajeta together, a simple, yet very decadent dessert!
70.00 ($3.89) Sweet Corn Cake served with cheese frosting. The sweet corn cake was good and light. However, this one was my least favorite. Dusted with powder sugar, raspberry sauce around the plate and a sliced strawberry to complete the pretty presentation.
Service: Our waiter, Pablo was fantastic and friendly along with the rest of the servers. They were quick to clear away dirty plates and utensils. Our food and drinks came out in a good and timely manner. ¡El servicio fue excelente!
Ambience and Décor: Nicely, ventilated and AC restaurant! Black and white floors, old and glamorous 1920s Hollywood vibes. The dining room and outside dining patio is spacious, clean and inviting. The dark, rich wood throughout the restaurant was gorgeous. The walls are adorned with various photos of Mexican/American celebrities/honored guests as well as Mexican art. The Women's Restroom is clean, spacious, nicely stocked and maintained.
Overall, I'm so glad that we got to experience and taste the infamous Caesar salad. For us Yelp foodies, it was definitely a treat worth remembering! Had our day trip lasted a little longer, I wouldn't mind staying in Hotel Caesar upstairs (which is only $50 a night!).
Hasta entonces, ¡muchas gracias al restaurante César, a Pablo y al personal por su maravillosa comida, bebidas, servicio y hospitalidad! (Until then, thank you so much to Restaurant Caesar, Pablo and staff for their wonderful food, drinks, service and hospitality!) read more
