Villa Marina, has been on my Tijuana radar and I finally was able to make it happen. The magnet to get here, was that I recently discovered they were the only restaurant that was advertising Puerto Nuevo lobster. So I got there on my first evening, and that's what I ordered. It took about 40 minutes to get to the table, but once it arrived, it was beautifully presented cooked optimally. The portion seemed a little smaller than I expected (came in only one 600 gm size). The lobster that was split in half sat on a moist bed of Spanish rice, came with refried beans and freshly grilled vegetables. See my pictures. The freshly made thin tortillas were superb, but one had to be careful or they would dry soon. After you finish, they give you an apperetiv, in a small cylindrical crystal glass. Basically, think of it like Kahlúa with milk, vanilla and ice. It was fantastic. The chips and salsas that preluded the main order were also superb. It is rarely and not always, that I go back to the same restaurant when I'm on a short trip. On top of that the next day? Yes, here it had to be the exception. So this second time, I was here to try the fish soup (exceptional) and the grilled loin of red snapper. I've heard of a pork loin, a beef loin, but this was a first. The entree is a large portion. A thick, succulent, colorful, well charred and grilled portion of seafood, with firm texture and spicy taste. Service here was high class, on both occasions. We had the pleasure of dining at Villa Marina. We ordered several dishes, including the three-flavor aguachiles, grilled octopus, and the Gohan Roll. Everything was delicious. The Gohan Roll was delicious and had a nice spicy kick, and the octopus ala brazas was excellent not chewy or too soft but tender. The best part of all was the flan for dessert. The restrooms were very clean. We received excellent service from Angel he was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for seafood. We stopped at here last minute. We were pleasantly surprised. The seafood is actually excellent. Presentation was also excellent. The tuna tartar was yummy! The grilled lobster was delicioso. Luis our server--and all the employees were pleasant and informative. We will definitely come back. *** Note this restaurant serves A LOT of octopus. My friend @cheftiffanythomas scrolled through a plethora of seafood restaurants here in Tijuana and landed on this wonderful gem. What sold us was the photo of the Octopus SARTENEADO, & yes it was tasty, soft, & slow cooked in a well seasoned bath of butter. The rice has a hint of saffron, and the vegetables were nicely roasted. The table salsa is excellent and the complementary chips are doused in a bright red savory chili powder. We also ordered the trio of aguachiles, prepared with 3 different chiles; one green, one red, & lastly a dark blackened chili. Our favorite was the black aguachiles. They have plenty of mixed drinks & beer to offer, we had the hibiscus drink with mezcal. Everything is a 5 out of 5, including customer service. Heads up it's a very busy restaurant and parking is valet only. If you happen to have children with you they also have a separate play area for the kiddos; which is great if you happen to have an energetic toddler that needs a temporary distraction. Villa Marina was a last minute spot that we decided to try out. Service was excellent. Super attentive staff, very nice, clean, and nice ambiance. We ordered Camerones de coco con Tamarindo sauce delish. It's a little sweet but good. We also had the oysters JC and the Aguachile Trio. The star of the show for us was the red aguachile., the oysters were ok but the salsa was a bit overwhelming.. would definitely stop here again.. read more

Definitely 10/10 for us-- Villa Marina is a wonderful seafood restaurant with a creative flair, the ambiance was welcoming and modern, the staff very friendly, service very good. The food was delicious. We tried the tuna chicharrones-- that was surprisingly good. Husband had the fish ceviche and I had the pescado al ajo (pan seared bass in garlic), over rice with salad. All very flavorful and tender. We shared a dessert-- a sweet corn cake, with vanilla ice cream and caramel. A nice treat to end the meal. This was my very first dining experience in TJ. The prices are very reasonable. I was able to order a beer, a shrimp ceviche, and a fish dish for $30 US. I tipped 18% on top of that. The ceviche was delicious but I think it gave me a tummy ache. I am probably not accustomed to the raw food over there. Or it could be from the accompanying salad for the fish dish. I am super sensitive to foreign food, so I just eating seafood at this place. The fish was a little salty, and so was the salad, but the rice was phenomenal. It was so much food for one person. They had to downsize the ceviche for me. I think the original side was meant for two to three people. Anyway, if you're in TJ and want to try some seafood, this isn't a bad place. I just think that I got sick because of my sensitivity to foreign food. I don't think it's the fault of the restaurant. Service was good and the ambiance was nice. I think I'll need to stay away from any raw/fresh food. Everything should be cooked well done. read more

We came on a Thursday night to a pretty full restaurant. It's a pretty nice restaurant with a kids play place inside the restaurant. Good if you have little ones. I've never seen before. We got the octopus plate, oysters topped with aguachiles, and I got 3 different tacos (marlin, gobernador, and taco mar y Tierra. We also got the Flan to take home. Pros - my wife liked the oysters (something a little different than what you typically get in Southern California). The octopus was also rated well by her. We've only tried octopus a few times so not much to compare to but it was good. My tacos were just okay. Wasn't blown away. - I don't like flan at all, but this one was really good. I can't put my finger on why though. Came with two different sauces (one caramel I think the other I didn't try). Overall - 7/10 Cons - even with today's prices this was a little pricey imo. - my tacos were pretty small. I took down 3 easily. read more

It is clean and neat but there are TVs everywhere that gives it more of a bar feel than a fine dining establishment. *Covid19 Protocol: excellent and the reason for one of my 2 stars. *Service: our waiter was attentive in the beginning but was replaced by two other people without notice. *Food: 1) Special Shrimp Ceviche: 4/10 I have had better in the US. While the shrimp was fresh the dish lacked flavor overall. They needed to marinate the shrimp in the acid a little more. 2) Baked Mariana Roll: 10/10. This was the best thing we had there. Excellent in all aspects. 3) Skirt Steak Tacos: 10/10 $100Mx pesos per piece. It was our second favorite thing there. Worth it. 4) Hot Shrimp plate: 1/10 $400+Mx pesos. Definitely not worth the price. There were 9 shrimp overall. The bacon wrapped one had a sweet filling that was awful. The shrimp in the cream sauce was good but that was it. The rice lacked flavor. But we didn't let it deter us. We kept on walking to this cheesily decorated and poorly lighted place... of course.. STILL we didn't let that deter us! A friend referred me here do I decided to give it a try. From first glance, it is very busy. Plenty of seating. You can tell the servers run around their whole shift. My friend and I were excited to get the chips and salsa until the chips had gum in it. Random and gross. The server quickly gave us new chips however but still. We ordered fried fish and garlic shrimp. The server forgot our shrimp so we had to order it again. I get it, the place was busy but not the most enjoyable experience. Place looks nice, seems to be somewhat fancy. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and is packed. I can't imagine on Friday or Saturday.
