Definitely the best Mexican breakfast spot in San Ysidro. Every breakfast dish I tried was excellent! Located right on the boulevard, small little place but with big flavor. Great customer service, they are very attentive from the moment you walk in. The cafe de casa is a must have (cafe de la olla). I started my breakfast off with a delicious cup of Cafe de Olla. I was then given some complimentary chips and beans. The chips appeared to be freshly fried and with the beans were a perfect start to a delicious meal. I ordered an omelette and I typically don't get chicken with my omelette but I decided to try something different so I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Omelette. I was pleasantly surprised and this omelette was bursting with flavor! The chicken was shredded and had a very nice flavor - with the chipotle sauce it put it over the top! Overall a tasty late lunch. I've never had either of these dishes and they were both very flavorful. I really liked the carne en su jurors. The broth was so rich but not heavy. The wet carne asada taco wasn't my fave, the sauce was a little too tangy. The potatoes in the pork dish were a tiny bit overcooked and on of the chops was really thin, overall flavor was great though. An absolute gem of a place in San ysidro serving up the real deal! I had been wanting to try this place for a while now and I finally got a chance to see for myself. A friend at work asked me if I had ever been a few years back, and I've had it bookmarked ever since. The reviews are great and they don't lie! It took a while to visit, because usually if I'm down in the San Ysidro area I am actually going or coming back from Tijuana. And so why would I eat on this side of the border? Actually in some cases, the closer you get to the border, the better the place gets! Let's just say you won't be disappointed here. The very first thing that impressed me was the simple fact that instead of chips and salsa they had brought us chips and beans! I mean this was a cool deviation from the normal chips and salsa. Hopefully others get the idea. The menu is pretty expansive, everything from breakfast to traditional combination plates. I ordered the huevos divorciados, and the lady got the chilaquiles in mole sauce. Also had the Mexican coffee, café de olla. Awesome! I do recommend this place 100% Menudo is delicious. I love it What i don't recommend is ordering through yelp app (ends up going through grubhub) because it forces you to add nervio or pata to complete the order and once you add it, on the restaurants side it only shows them nervio. This because I ordered with pata and also put it in the instructions however the lady told me it only showed them I added nervio. Would have given a 5...but felt jilted when I got the bill. There was a sweet grandma type offering pastries to customers. So we took them assuming it was complimentary. They were $3.50 each, so charged $7. Plus they added a credit card fee. I don't like these kinds of surprises. I don't have a problem with credit card fees if notified in advance like on a clearly posted sign or better yet on the menu. Not saying how much the pastries were (they were the worst part of the meal - we got strawberry and pineapple, both of which were like jam instead of fruit) reminded me of being overseas when hidden costs are added or being charged for tea in a Chinese restaurant (again I don't mind if it's noted on the menu, but I don't like surprises). To me, this is worse than restaurants that note on the menu you will be charged for things like employee health insurance or "service" rather than increasing the prices. We recently got married and we decided to have them cater our special day...they served Bistec Ranchero, Chicken Fajitas & Chicken Mole with Rice and Beans AND for DESSERT, they did a Crepe Station!! They say everything happens for a reason and I fully believe it. Stopped by El Rincón for a work meeting after a friend's recommendation. El Rincon has many typical Mexican food staples but the menudo definitely caught my eye. Rarely do I order menudo at restaurants as they almost never hit the mark. This is not the case at El Rincón. Clean, perfectly seasoned and piping hot I was pleasantly surprised and excited at the same time. I found my new spot for amazing menudo in San Diego and that is no easy feat! The chips were fresh and crispy, smothered in a creamy chipotle sauce that wasn't too spicy, and the steak was incredibly tender and juicy. The food was good. The service was just ok, we got our food pretty quickly but they never returned to check on us. One star, they dropped off chips and a small side of beans(complementary) then brought bread and asked which piece we would each like. At the end, they charged 3.50 per bread (the kind you get for .50 at the panaderia). They should announce that the bread is not complimentary and not just start serving. They cook everything with pork lard but don't tell you. I can't eat pork and when I asked one of the waitress what was the oil in my chilaquiles she told me it was lard ???? Why you put lard on your chilaquiles and why you don't tell people that everything is cooked with lard ??? The seasoning was spot on, and the beans on the side were just as delicious. My nephew ordered the pancakes and, after one bite, said, *"Tía, these taste like coffee! This has become a favorite stop on our way home from Ensenada/TJ in the morning! The food is absolutely delicious and always worth the wait! The restaurant is located on a small corner when you exit the freeway and is very easy to find. It does have a small parking lot, but you can usually find street parking nearby. The restaurant itself is also rather small so there is usually a line of people waiting to be seating, but trust me it's totally worth it! They have delicious and hearty authentic mexican food items on their menu, and our favorites are the chilaquiles and the menudo. Another must have is their cafe de olla, so delicious! I have been here twice because of the reviews and it is always an experience. I have tried a big menudo which was good but the broth seemed like tomato soup while the tripe was excellent and plentiful. Today I returned and tried the carne en su jugo, a soup that I love and have made myself. But the El Rincon version, which is highly reviewed, was extremely watery and flavorless, although it looked delicious. I could not taste the bacon at all. I wanted to like it but it just wasn't on point. And in both the menudo and carne soup cases, barely any onions and cilantro are provided, just a few bits on the plate, so I have had to ask for more each time. The toilet seat in the bathroom needs to be replaced! It slides everywhere!! I will continue to try this small but busy restaurant since it has such a devoted following. read more
