I really love this restaurant! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because instead of 5 is because of the long wait times. It doesn't stop me from having brunch here because the food is delicious! If you plan on coming I recommend getting here early to add your name to the waitlist. They don't reserve ahead. The parking is metered/paid or you can park in the parking structure across the street for free. The servers are all very kind and helpful. The decoration inside is very cute Talavera styled.

If you're looking for genuine Mexican chilaquiles for breakfast, you'll find them in the heart of downtown Chula Vista at Talavera Azul. They offer an extensive selection of authentic chilaquiles sauces, and you truly can't go wrong with any--green, red, mole, or chipotle cream. If you're feeling indecisive, ask for the divorciados option so you can enjoy two flavors in one dish, and add eggs for the perfect finishing touch. Their café de la olla is a must, and you can't leave without trying one of their fresh juices--the orange juice is my personal favorite. The service is consistently wonderful. The only downside is that they're often busy, with wait times ranging from 20 minutes to an hour, but it's absolutely worth it. Their popularity speaks to the quality, and the intimate setting--decorated with beautiful, authentic Talavera pottery--creates a warm, welcoming Mexican ambiance that makes the experience feel truly genuine.

So I've heard a lot of this place and after seeing it on food network we've been wanting to visit and finally got the opportunity on Saturday the 26th. As usual there was a line out the door to get in and we were told we had about a 30 minute wait. That wait turned into about 45 minutes.......once we were finally seated I noticed they were obviously pretty busy and it took a little for someone to actually come over and take our order. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my fiancé ordered the chilaquiles both in green sauce. We also ordered the kids quesadilla for my daughter. The quesadilla came out right away which was nice and my daughter dug in, she really enjoyed it. Now we sat there talking amongst ourselves as my daughter ate and we waited for our food. And I can't specifically say how long it took but my daughter, watching videos on my phone finished her meal before our ever came out. When the food arrived my enchiladas looked great and I'll say that the flavors on top of the dish....sauce, the cotija, the pickled onions were absolutely delicious. The issue I had and I know it sounds weird to say there was "too much" chicken but the chicken tasted very bland so with as much as they had in the enchiladas, you got that initial great flavor and after a couple chews it got completely lost in the bland chicken. But still a good dish. The chilaquiles which I did sample were much better in my opinion. All this great flavors I spoke of were not dulled immediately. Also a note, I ordered the limonada and that drink was the most sour lemonade I've ever drank. It gave you that burn in your chest if you drank too much of it. I noticed another gentleman had also ordered it and was cutting it with water every sip he took. Overall pretty good food, but considering the wait both outside and inside the restaurant I'll satisfy my enchilada cravings somewhere else.

The rice is a 10/10!! The server was so kind and greeted us right away and took our drink order. I got the carrot juice and I would definitely recommend that. We ordered taquitos were not the best. But my enchilada were delicious. The sopes were okay. The decor inside is cute. Went on a holiday weekend was pretty busy but the waitlist went by quickly.

This is a great brunch spot if you want a full breakfast paired with a nap afterwards. Their menu consists of staple mexican household dishes for breakfast and lunch. My family and I attended on a Saturday morning around 11am and the wait was only 30 minutes. The inside isn't really built for large parties so I wouldn't advise parties larger than 6 to get brunch here. My chile relleno plate came hot and I ate every last bit. Our waiter was a bit delayed with drinks, but other than that staff was very attentive. Their tortillas are also very yummy.

Came here extra early on a Saturday with a girl friend so that we wouldn't have to wait too long. We didn't get there early enough at 9:10 we put out names on the list and were told 20-25 minutes which really ended up being about 45. But well worth the wait! I was surprised to see they had a mente cristo, my all time fave breakfast meal. I ordered that with no ham and they were ok with the change. Food prep was quick and delicious! The place inside is pretty spacious, with all the casa azul-like plates and ceramics as decor. So cute!

Came in for brunch today. It was a bit tricky looking for free parking & ended up paying a parking meter for 2 hours. There was a wait time for us to be seated. The food had good portions & good flavor. We all ordered different kind of chilaquiles. They all come with beans and potatoes and you can add different toppings for additional cost. The inside is decorated with the Talavera theme and lots of crosses. The only thing that was missing today was the customer service. There was no greeting when we walked in and the staff seemed busy and rushed. The server did make a joke about perhaps us looking for a babysitter due to my friends having babies with them, funny joke but kinda dry. It was a good brunch with my friends but not sure If i would come back soon.

Breakfast was a hit!! This place is fully authentic mexican food. Throughly impressed with the decor and service. The wait was long I have to warn you to be patient. The wait is well worth it. Food came quick once we were seated. My teen also raved about the food. If anyone knows teenagers they are hard to impress. We started off with fresh banana smoothies and cafe de la olla. Next we got the best queso fundido. It was once of the biggest orders I've had. Lots of choizo and Rajas. They did not skimp on the serving size. We shared an order of chilaquiles. Let me tell you these stayed crunchy to each bite. The flavors were outstanding. Creamy full of flavor food that did not disappoint. Our neighbors next to us raved about the espadana omelet. That will be next !! Give this place a try.

    * service was great * The food was delicious * great casual ambiance Today is a holiday so there was no wait however there is always a wait time. They have a great Cafe De la holla if you like sweet coffee you will enjoy it. I always mix half olla half regular and its perception in a cup. Today we tried the Machaca plate and the huevos divorciados the sauces were so tasty loved my plate I finished everything I mean even there beans were good they tasted homemade. A must-try. We definitely will be back.

Food was delicious, service was exceptionally fast with our orders. Ambiance was that of a family restaurant. Definitely will come back again. Queso fundido is so good.

Have returned a couple times now for their food. I love their chilaquiles and queso fundido.

Dust pan similar to the one used to scoop up the cockroach
    Juanita A.

Everything was great until I saw a huge cockroach crawling across the dinning room floor. Then I saw a server scoop it up in a dust pan and walk towards the back of the restaurant. Needless to say, I could not finish my food. People say that those are "outside/water cockroaches," and that they're common in downtown Chula Vista, but no thank you! But up until then, the food and service was good. Will not be returning.

It was Machaca Sonora with fried pinto beans, roasted potatoes and two fried eggs.

And this last time, they couldn't even follow simple directions on the order. This isn't just frustrating, it's the kind of repeated carelessness that drives customers away for good. People aren't paying their money to play guessing games with their food or deal with constant mistakes. If this is the level of service they're going to keep providing, they're going to lose more than just one customer.
