The chilaquiles were good but the service wasn't the best. The hostess with the long black hair gave my friend attitude because she asked how long the wait time would be. She snapped at my friend and said "I told you 40 minutes and you've only been waiting 18 minutes". Then after waiting forty minutes everyone else that was before us had already been called so we were just standing there waiting going on at almost an hour at this point and we still hadn't been called so my friend asked them and they said they had already called us but we never responded so 5 groups of people were seated. The food is almost worth the wait. Coming to this resturant on an empty stomach may not be the best idea. The wait time is long especially between 10-12pm. There isnt a ton of places to sit while waiting either, a few chairs outside. Once seated, the decore of the place is very nice. Not overly tacky but nicely placed talaveras around the resturant paying homage to the name and culture. The food does mexican breakfast justice & the portions make up for the long wait time. While a little pricey to me for eggs and tortillas, the food is good. What gives this restaurant it's 3 stars for me was the attitude of the staff. May have been an overly busy day and patience were running thin but my husband and I noticed that asking for additional coffee or salsa seems to bother the waitress. Getting her attention for the check and pay at the host stand felt the same as well. I really love this restaurant! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because instead of 5 is because of the long wait times. It doesn't stop me from having brunch here because the food is delicious! If you plan on coming I recommend getting here early to add your name to the waitlist. They don't reserve ahead. So I've heard a lot of this place and after seeing it on food network we've been wanting to visit and finally got the opportunity on Saturday the 26th. As usual there was a line out the door to get in and we were told we had about a 30 minute wait. That wait turned into about 45 minutes.......once we were finally seated I noticed they were obviously pretty busy and it took a little for someone to actually come over and take our order. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my fiancé ordered the chilaquiles both in green sauce. We also ordered the kids quesadilla for my daughter. The quesadilla came out right away which was nice and my daughter dug in, she really enjoyed it. Now we sat there talking amongst ourselves as my daughter ate and we waited for our food. And I can't specifically say how long it took but my daughter, watching videos on my phone finished her meal before our ever came out. When the food arrived my enchiladas looked great and I'll say that the flavors on top of the dish....sauce, the cotija, the pickled onions were absolutely delicious. The issue I had and I know it sounds weird to say there was "too much" chicken but the chicken tasted very bland so with as much as they had in the enchiladas, you got that initial great flavor and after a couple chews it got completely lost in the bland chicken. But still a good dish. The chilaquiles which I did sample were much better in my opinion. All this great flavors I spoke of were not dulled immediately. Also a note, I ordered the limonada and that drink was the most sour lemonade I've ever drank. It gave you that burn in your chest if you drank too much of it. I noticed another gentleman had also ordered it and was cutting it with water every sip he took. Overall pretty good food, but considering the wait both outside and inside the restaurant I'll satisfy my enchilada cravings somewhere else. read more

This is a great brunch spot if you want a full breakfast paired with a nap afterwards. Their menu consists of staple mexican household dishes for breakfast and lunch. My family and I attended on a Saturday morning around 11am and the wait was only 30 minutes. The inside isn't really built for large parties so I wouldn't advise parties larger than 6 to get brunch here. My chile relleno plate came hot and I ate every last bit. We didn't get there early enough at 9:10 we put out names on the list and were told 20-25 minutes which really ended up being about 45. But well worth the wait! Came in for brunch today. It was a bit tricky looking for free parking & ended up paying a parking meter for 2 hours. There was a wait time for us to be seated. The food had good portions & good flavor. We all ordered different kind of chilaquiles. They all come with beans and potatoes and you can add different toppings for additional cost. The inside is decorated with the Talavera theme and lots of crosses. The only thing that was missing today was the customer service. There was no greeting when we walked in and the staff seemed busy and rushed. Food came quick once we were seated. My teen also raved about the food. If anyone knows teenagers they are hard to impress. We started off with fresh banana smoothies and cafe de la olla. Next we got the best queso fundido. It was once of the biggest orders I've had. Lots of choizo and Rajas. They did not skimp on the serving size. We shared an order of chilaquiles. Everything was great until I saw a huge cockroach crawling across the dinning room floor. Then I saw a server scoop it up in a dust pan and walk towards the back of the restaurant. Needless to say, I could not finish my food. People say that those are "outside/water cockroaches," and that they're common in downtown Chula Vista, but no thank you! First off the price isn't too bad with everything that we ordered. I have been around to different brunch places where they charge an insane amount for chilaquiles. We ordered the Chilaquiles Verde with beef, Poblano & chipotle sauce, Cafe de olla and horchata. The chilaquiles verde i enjoyed because it had the right amount of spice and a good lemon after taste. I will say that the shredded beef was drenched in lemon because it was overwhelmingly sour. The refried beans and house potatoes were okay. The poblano & chipotle chilaquiles have a creamy and great tasting flavor. The cafe de olla was so good ! Didnt even need to add creamer or sugar it was perfect the way it was. The horchata was your pretty average standard of horchata. The restaurant is a small shop and easy to miss, but the mexican theme inside is nice. It's in the name itself , talavera azul ! Lots of lovely blue pottery inside on the shelfs , and what stood out to me was the huge bottle of casa azul ! The service was exceptional, staff were friendly and attentive . This place is always busy, but worth the wait. If you eat here on the weekend, be prepared for long wait times. Weekdays are not as bad, and we were seated right away. However, it got pretty busy and filled up around 10am. There is only indoors seating and the street parking can be limited. There are few metered spots in front and not many options. Best place to park is across the street in the free 3 hour parking structure and walk across. The place is clean, prices are reasonable, and one of my favorite places in Chula for breakfast. The staff is friendly and the food is prepared rather quick considering how busy they get. The food is flavorful and the portions are big in my opinion. I'm always taking home leftovers unless I share. They are known for their Chilaquiles and they are all delicious (red, green, poblano, chipotle, mole). You can add eggs or a meat of choice to your meal and they come with beans and potatoes. They serve a variety of beverages including cafe de olla and mimosas. I've eaten their sopes, chorizo, breakfast burrito, and the queso. Everything I've eaten here I've enjoyed. The food very flavorful and always made right. I've been coming here for years and it's always been pretty consistent. I only come for their chilaquiles so I can't attest to their other menu items however for their chilaquiles, they are probably the best I've ever had anywhere. Their sauce is so creamy compared to other places and everything just hits. They no longer do the divorciado mixed chilaquiles anymore which was a huge bummer, I had to ask them to put the mixed sauces and they told me they'll do it that one time but won't be able to do it anymore, not sure why they stopped doing it but I appreciated that they still did it for me. The ambiance is nice, they have a lot of nice blue decorations in there to go with the talavera azul vibe. My only complaint is that they only have 1 bathroom which always seems to be occupied, but other than that this place is highly recommended! read more
