My mom was in town and was craving a fish taco, so I took her here. She got a fish taco. I forgot what I ordered, I think some sort of tostado. Anything I order here is good tho. I did have to ask the lady for the free chips and salsa tho as we dined in. Lots of hot sauces to choose from, always a plus!
Love spending time with mom and sis. I was the one driving, and I got to choose this casual dining spot. We got some chilaquiles! Even though we were a bit late for the breakfast menu, they still let us order the Smoked fish, Gobernador, and Pork Belly-quiles. I loved the flavors, and it had just the right amount of spice I prefer. I also had a Mango-rita that snuck up on me in a good way. We each tried all three plates, and all agreed they were sumptuous. Everyone running the restaurant was super friendly and accommodating to special diet needs as well. I'm glad we tried this establishment. It was quite busy that day, but there was still plenty of parking, and they had booths to sit and enjoy the experience. Portions were large - we all had leftovers to take home. I would love to come back and try more of the menu!
This is a good local small spot in Eastlake for some quick seafood options. The place has a good vibe and is modern. Service is overall good. I typically enjoy the fried fish tacos and the shrimp cocktail.
El Viejon located in the South Bay in Otay Ranch area. Parking is easy, as it is in the same shopping center at HomeGoods. They offer indoor and outside seating. We ordered: Mango-rita - delish and strong Suerto - which is a carbonized water Octopus taco - perfectly cooked and delish...highly recommend! El viejon fries - (which came with shrimp, octopus, and smoked fish) delish, smoked fish had a nice flavor to it. We will definitely be back to try more seafood dishes! So glad there's a good mariscos spot closer to me since I used to go up to Sunbow. Everything is so good here. My go-to dishes are the aguachile negro, ahi tuna tostada, smoked tuna taco and fresh oysters. My favorite salsa is the creamy cilantro with everything! Their chips are also made fresh and go well with everything I order. I 100% recommend this spot to anyone who loves mariscos!
Was craving fish tacos but changed our mind when we saw the seafood tower and octopus tacos! Had we known the tower was so big we probably wouldn't have ordered 4 extra tacos lol great for family of 4 to share. We had leftovers! Absolutely great customer service on a busy Friday night. Tables are first come first served but we didn't wait but maybe 5 minutes for a table to open up. Small hole in the wall but you definitely don't want to skip! Lots of parking in the outlet lot.

The food here is amazing--fresh, flavorful, and packed with bold flavors that hit just right. Customer service is great. Every time I'm here the chef comes out and personally serves me the plates I've ordered. We ordered the aguachile, the tower, and the queso birria tacos, and every bite was delicious. The aguachile had the perfect balance of heat and citrus, the tower was stacked and super fresh (definitely a showstopper!), and the queso birria tacos? Next level. Juicy, cheesy, and just the right amount of crisp on the tortilla. The ambiance is small, but it has a lot of space outside to sit as well. This spot is a must if you love good mariscos. I highly recommend it and can't wait to come back again!

Wife was craving some fish tacos while shopping at home store. Glad we tried El Viejon Seafood and now we have "great" option when craving for some Mexican food! It took only about 15 mins for our order on a 11AM Saturday. Ordered the following: Ensenada Fish Taco - absolutely freshly delicious fish taco. It's mostly fish "not" batter which makes it standout compared to other fish tacos we've tried. Right amount of toppings and the green salsa makes it even taste better! 5/5 Pork Belly Taco - it was missing a a citrusy punch and flavor for me. Great presentation though. 3/5 2 A La Birria Tacos plus Consome (broth) - Beef was full of flavor and crunchiness of the tortillas was perfect. Enjoyed the piping hot and delicious broth. 5/5 Place is not big but the ambiance was great. They have the perfect choice of music during our lunch. Great dining experience and highly recommended!

The restaurant was very clean. Lots of room. It was quite packed with college students I loved the food. The fish taco is easily two rolled in one. Very good flavor. The nachos weren't my thing (cheese not a fan) but the table loved them. They included a good balance of cheese and pork belly. The octopus taco is recommended. The horchata was excellent and not too sweet.
Pretty new to the area is El Viejon Seafood which is sure to delight you. Inside of the Millenia strip mall you'll find this restaurant. Upon walking inside you'll be greeted with a modern style and very clean restaurant. The staff here have always been awesome and are more than willing to assist you in making a choice. My wife and I have dined here twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. For breakfast we had the chilaquiles and two birria tacos complete with birria broth. The chilaquiles were very good! great flavor all around and a solid amount that is sure to fill you up. The birria tacos however really lacked flavor. The broth was delicious, but the meat in the tacos was very bland which was disappointing. One thing that did stand out here however were the prices. It's quite expensive, but that's to be expected these days with food prices and rent. If you're in the area and looking for a great spot to try some good seafood and Mexican cuisine, stop by El Viejon.
Decided to try this place because we wanted some Mexican seafood. It's a small place but surprisingly it was pretty packed with people. The food was pretty good. The viejon fries ($22), this was massive with a generous amount of different seafood, & I loved that they used seasoned fries. We also got a couple tacos, the grilled fish taco ($4.50) & gobernador taco ($8), both had good flavor with unique toppings. The pulpo macho tostada ($8) was massive & a generous serving. The birria tacos ($15) were okay, I feel that they were overpriced for what they were & I probably wouldn't order them again. Overall, this place is on the pricier side, but they do serve seafood so it's understandable & I'd come visit again when I want some seafood.

We very much enjoyed our meal at El Viejon in Chula Vista. When dining in, you order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. It is a small location but they really have maximized the space. We had no trouble getting a booth. We ordered the fish ceviche bowl to share, which was delicious. A generous shareable serving and the fish was perfectly "cooked." Ceviches are served with your choice of tostadas or chips. I would prefer more pico and perhaps some avocado. But overall it was a 9/10 dish. I also ordered a grilled fish taco with rice and beans. The fish taco was so flavorful and stuffed full with toppings and a large piece of grilled fish. This taco was outstanding. 10/10. My partner had the surf and turf nachos which he also rated highly. I think they could have used a little more cheese. But he said the steak was tender and juicy. The shrimp were seasoned well and there were a lot of them! Everything was delicious and we will be back for sure! read more

In San Diego from Denver, craving all the seafood we can get. El Viejon was a hit. Was surprised at how wide of a menu from an amazing Seafood Tower with octopus, fish, shrimp, etc. to crunchy Tripa tacos and awesome Burris tacos with consome as well. There is definitely something for everyone. Location is nice with cute outdoor seating. Inside was packed on a Friday night. Service was friendly and fairly fast for how much food we ordered. Have had this place before and it was really good. Did a to go pick up order and this is what $20 gets you for a "half" order of Aguachile. Very little juice and this box is tiny. Portion size is a fraction of what you get at TJ Oyster bar for a cheaper price. Extremely disappointed. read more

El Viejón Seafood is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots. The staff is always super friendly, and the space is clean and inviting with both indoor and outdoor seating. Even with a baby in tow, the bar-height stools were surprisingly comfy--major win! Their menu is so unique that I make it a point to try something new every time I go. This visit, it was the pulpo macha tostada--smoky, spicy, and totally packed with flavor. If you're into bold seafood, it's a must-try. Everything I've had so far has been fresh and thoughtfully prepared. El Viejón is one of those places that keeps pulling you back in, dish by dish. Highly recommend if you're into creative seafood, chill vibes, and great service. read more

My nachos was stale and barely any meat so if you ask for no cheese and sour cream on the side, note, it will look disappointing. $22 is expensive with the meat they gave, only on top nothing in the middle or bottom of the container. Even my shrimp ceviche looked old and my husband tried it and it tasted old. It looked more depressed than me. I'm glad I didn't eat it because I probably would have gotten food poisoning. So sad to say how the manager let this leave the store. He should be ashamed of himself. I did delivery because my husband can't walk and don't want to leave him by himself, hence me getting it delivered and now got nothing to eat because how disgusting the food is. My favorite here is their Ensenada tacos. Can't beat that fair price and it's actually good fish tacos. The service was fast. The ambiance is small but adorable. Plenty of parking outside. You can call for pick up or order and dine in. read more

I ate and left no crumbs hahah. On a serious note, I'm so happy this restaurant opened up in Chula Vista. It's divine. They made us some of the best seafood tacos I've had in SD. Super fresh and tasty. I My favorite taco was the el viejon taco. There's a lot going on in this taco, lots of seafood, ingredients, etc...but it was sooo delicious. The cooks do not skimp out on the protein portions either. Shout out to the chefs! I also had the ahi tuna tostada. This is a great option for fresh tuna lovers. They have a kids menu as well, which I appreciated. Andrea helped us out. She was so sweet and attentive. The ambiance is modern and fun. There's a huge disco ball inside, which gives them bonus points if you ask me. There's lots of seating inside and outside. Plenty of parking as well. I'll definitely be back. :) read more

I really enjoyed this place! I'm so happy this showed up in Otay Ranch. You order your food before sitting down or can scan the QR code from the table to see the menu. We enjoyed everything we ordered except the aguachile negro, it was lacking flavor not spicy at all. The fish taco was good and filling it's pretty big. My husband enjoyed the octopus taco , I thought it to be a bit too spicy. Our favorite was the fish ceviche tostada ! It was flavorful and unique. There's inside and outside seating. Perfect for groups or grabbing a quick bite for lunch. Would come back again with my family read more

This place always hits the spot anytime Im craving mariscos in the area. I always go for the tacos and tostadas. Today i went in for happy hour and got: 1 fish tacos, 1 ahi tuna tostada, and 5 oysters. I unfortunately ate the taco and tostada before i could remember taking a photo but the food is always so aesthetically pleasing and ties well with the flavors. Happy hour deals are definitely more worth it, especially with everything being so expensive nowadays. Happy hour is Monday to Thursday from 3-5 pm! Great way to try the food too read more

Pulled up into El Viejon with fam for the first time and was greeted by the rudest cashier. As we were trying to scan their menu (one screen wasn't properly working), she was rushing us to order. Then if we asked a question about any of the menu items ... she wasn't really personable and helpful. Girl, isn't your job all about customer service? First impressions at a restaurant matter. It ruined the experience. While the octopus taco was delicious, I don't know if I can go back to this location. Also, how are you not going to have any smoked fish when it's included in a lot of menu items and it's you've been open for 2 hours? P.S. don't buy the bag of chips ... they were stale. read more
We were happy to hear El Viejon was coming to Otay Ranch as we tried it first in Convoy! This is a great location ! As there is plenty of parking in this shopping center . We stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and there were 3 people in line (great sign) and the inside was pretty full with only one open table. The great thing about this location is the outdoor seating! We decided to sit outside as it sounded a little loud inside . We ordered 1/2 order aguachirles negros (10/10) they bring in in a molcajete, taco enchilado(10/10 my favorite ) , side of rice, quesa taco(10//10), and a birria taco (8/10) . It's like we stepped into a literal party in here! There was loud, festive music and a LARGE discoball hanging from the ceiling. There used to be a very delicious taquito restaurant here, but I guess this Mexican seafood joint took its place. Anyway, the guy at the door that worked here was very welcoming and enthusiastic about pointing out everything on the menu. The menu was pretty overwhelming! Hubby wanted to try this place out, but I wasn't THAT hungry at the time, so I ordered 2 empanadas. Unfortunately, they were out of empanadas, so I ended up ordering two birria tacos with consumè. Hubby had two fish tacos with rice. Later, the server brought our food to the table and told us they ran out of rice? So, she brought out some pasty beans instead. My two birria tacos and consumè were about $15, while hubby's fish tacos were about $4 each. I don't know how much the beans were, but our bill came out to be a little over $30. There was nothing wrong with my birria tacos; in fact, it was quite good and pretty hefty. The consumè was actually very good, not salty at all and so flavorful, but I wish I had gotten the fish taco instead. Had a bite of the hubby's, and it was more tasty, in my opinion. Loved all the veggies, flavor, and the crispyness. Would I come back? I probably would, but I'd skip the birria and try the seafood dishes. It's a seafood place, after all! After seeing several unique items on the menu, we were excited to give this spot a try. We ordered both types of fish tacos, an ahi tuna taco, and the vegan fries. The fish tacos were absolutely delicious, but the ahi tuna taco was on a whole other level. I can't say enough about how the textures and flavors came together perfectly. Whether it was my hunger, or the fact that it's genuinely one of the best tacos I've ever had, I'll find out soon enough because I'm definitely going back to try it again. Another standout was the vegan fries, which were vibrant, and so flavorful. The vegan options on the menu really impressed us, and I'm looking forward to trying more of them on my next visit. The food was really good. The service was good as well. I sat outside to enjoy the fresh air and sun. I appreciated the lemon they had added to pitcher of cold ice water. My carne asada taco was as expected BUT MY GRILLED FISH TACO was spectacular. I'm all honesty the best I've ever had. I will SO be back for the grilled fish taco. I've been here a few times. I've ordered the Cali Cali burito, carne asada fries, campechana and they are all so good. I took one star off because I always order takeout and they only give you one sad container of half empty salsa. A red one and creamy green. The food is great. The salsa is great. It's just with the amount they charge the salsa shouldn't be hoarded. This time the amount of salsa was so small I had to write a review. If I remember I always ask for more but the times I forget it's frustrating to have to eat a whole burrito with this amount of salsa. read more
