Portion and pricing - very good! We got the Kalbi beef box and the island roll, delicious! There are no words to describe the beef, unbelievably tender and perfectly seasoned! I also tried a combination appetizer, perfect sampling - sweet, spicy, crunchy and chewy. No complaints on the food! Service, very friendly but on the slow side for a Saturday night with an almost empty restaurant. This will not stop me from returning though, the food is well worth it. First of all where have you been all my life Tora!! I thought Kooma was the best but after trying this out today I have a new fave sushi in Columbus for sure! Even if you don't like sushi they have tons of options available a la carte but I highly recommend to order at least one specialty roll just to try how good it is! Over priced for what is served. Staff is fairly incapable. My server didn't realize that he brought out only 1/2 my order after a long wait. I'm one of those people that like to taste various things I ordered, sort of taste test when I eat sushi. After 10 mins I flagged my server down and reminded that I'm missing 1/2 my order. He proceeds to tell the sushi chef who was chatting away with some other staffer and continued to do so. I'm witnessing all this because I'm at the sushi bar. Oh btw, chefs never interacted with me while I was at the sushi bar. Didn't ask how food was or what I may like/dis-like. For those who may want to say that this is to be expected at a sushi place in Columbus, try out Aki Hana. It is top notch and worthy of mention amongst many great sushi places I have eaten at on my travels. Moshi in Belexy is good as well although not in same category as Aki Hana. Drive a bit extra to Aki Hana instead of eating at Tora. Even Edamame, that I would put in that second tier places is better price/performance than this. read more

I have been a long time customer of Tora until tonight. My husband and I went to have dinner there tonight to celebrate his birthday. There was no wait and plenty of tables empty. When we were asked how many people and we responded 2 we were told they had nothing available. I pointed to the empty tables and asked why we can't be seated there. We were told those tables were for groups of 4 only. They were not reserved and like I said there was no wait but they still would not let us sit there. Our only choice was to wait 30-45 mins for a 2 seat table to open up or sit at the bar. We chose to leave. My husband was so disgusted by how we were treated and said he'll never eat there again. I waited to write this review after the mixed feelings I had about the experience I went through a few weeks ago which I told another yelper about. Reason I came to this restaurant was because my sister was throwing a surprise party here for my sister-in-law who was about to turn 40 soon. So we wanted to celebrate the special time early and surprise her here. The service started off good until it came to the order time where they had to re-arrange the table to accommodate us to eat in the private room in the back. We each order our meals and some people ad never had Japanese food like my mom. So many things on the menu she was very conscious about trying. Therefore everything had to be explained to her so that she would understand what she is about to eat. We wait and I mean wait just to get a simple soup or salad and my sister is thinking that they must be talking badly about us back there in the kitchen saying how those white girls just gave us a huge order to work on. My food comes out last and I was unpleased because I had to keep reminding the waiter what I ordered and he also expected a good tip from everyone there. We ordered sushi pick up here and were very happy with all types we ordered! We ordered 5 different types (from the basics to specialty rolls) and everything was fresh and yummy. The specialty rolls we ordered were Blue Ocean and California Dreaming Roll. We would definitely recommend both! Love love love coming here on Tuesday nights for their sushi specials. If you've never been here & you love sushi, I recommend the Storm roll. It's deep fried & delicious! The crunch sound & texture once it hits your lips/mouth will not disappoint. Only reason 4/5 is that Tuesday's use to be 50% sushi rolls on most & now it's down to 30%-40% on some of my favorite rolls. Still a great place to eat read more

I really liked this place. It is near where I work, and we ventured over for lunch one day from work. Since then, I purchased a Groupon for dinner so I could return here with my wife. They had sushi, which I am a fan of, but I saw these meals that I hadn't seen before that came in a stone pot, and I really wanted to try one of those. I ordered a stone pot with pork. The concept is a bit like a Mexican "cazuela," where you get a super heated pot with your meal inside. This was less like a stew than a cazuela is, almost more like an Asian take on a lasagna or enchilada, with layers of different ingredients. Mine had rice at the bottom, then pork, then vegetables on top. The pot was super hot, so the pork was crispy and the rice would clump together on the sides of the pot and get pleasantly singed. It was really good. Our service was unremarkable, we were the only ones in the joint, so our server was pretty attentive. Price was reasonable. One note: they say they have hibachi, but I didn't see the big grill-tables. They might have been in a different part of the restaurant, or I may have missed them, but if you want the traditional hibachi experience (like a Benihana), I am not sure they have that here. Nonetheless, I liked it and would come back to split another pot meal and some sushi (which I want to try also) with my wife. Grilled squid rings. Oh my. I took the previous reviewer's advice and ordered them. They are phenomenal. Hands down the best squid I've ever had. I also ordered a spicy tuna hand roll. When prompted, yes you want cucumber. Prepare to taste one of the best hand rolls you've ever had. Seriously. The spicy tuna here is SO much better than all the other sushi places I have been. I love mochi ice cream. For 6.99, I received 4 whole pieces, all of them were split into two. Red bean, green tea, strawberry, and orange. The orange one had pieces of onions on the bottom of it. So they've got to watch sharing the cutting boards... But other than that, it was delicious. :) The server was excellent and hats off to Mr. Yoo, my favorite sushi chef of all time. It's hard to rate this because I haven't had other sushi in Columbus and I will have to compare this to my lifelong sushi experience. Tora is a great restaurant with a clean and modern atmosphere. The menu is expansive and they have a few items off the beaten path, especially in their appetizers as well as some stone pot entrees. I decided to avoid the rolls and try some of their interesting appetizers for my meal. Oyster Salmon Roll - Tora only had one oyster left so they gave me a half order of this since the full order usually comes with 2. Fine by me, it let me order more. I subbed the smoked salmon for fresh salmon and found this dish to be very fresh and very flavorful. A great start to the evening. Tuna Carpaccio - The tuna that accompanied this was excellent. Small cuts, but very fresh and it was a nice price for the full 5 pieces that come with this dish. I was not a huge fan of the lemon cream that the tuna came on. I tried a healthy portion of it with my first bite of tuna and was a bit put off by it and ate the rest of the pieces after scraping off the cream. Hamachi Carpaccio - Not the best. The yellowtail was reasonably fresh but the pieces were cut so thick, it was like eating slabs of yellowtail. I prefer my carpaccio to be thinly sliced with the jalapeno and ponzu in smaller cuts. So I was a bit disappointed with this. Not the freshest hamachi I've had either but it didn't have that bad aftertaste that really unfresh hamachi gets. I finished with an order of nigiri. I asked for hirame but they were out and suggested a different white fish instead. Very solid and fresh pieces of nigiri but I would have been happier with a standard sake or maguro if they didn't have the hirame. That one is my bad. Overall the experience was very enjoyable if not completely memorable. I wouldn't talk anyone out of eating at Tora but I will also explore other places first next time I'm in town. read more

I got carry out and the portion is SO small considering the price for their specialty roll. I can't help but compared it to Tensuke and Mr.Sushi. The quality is about the same, everything is previously frozen in the Ohio. It definitely hits the spot for my sushi craving but the specialty roll is just so small. Tora is a solid Japanese restaurant in the Gahanna area. It's a regular go to that is within five minutes' drive from Easton. Nestled in a non-descript strip mall, you may miss it but it is worth a visit. I have been there many times and had many of their appetizer and entree dishes as well as their sushi menu items. This review is just of my last two visits. Last visit, we ate family style and ordered gyoza, chicken karaage, curry katsu, miso soup and three different sashimi: sockeye salmon, striped bass, mackerel. The visit before, we also ate family style and ordered gyoza, tuna and avocado salad, curry katsu, chicken karaage, and miso soup. The karaage and curry katsu are staples for me when I visit. The miso soup comes with the curry entree. Like karaage at other Japanese restaurants, this is best (and simply) described as chicken nuggets. However it is a damn good nugget. Dark meat braised in soy sauce and deep fried in a light breading. Tora serves it with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. I've had it with different sauces at different restaurants. It's really good here. You could eat the nuggets with no dip. They are that flavorful. And moist. And not greasy. Order a bunch to share or horde. The katsu curry dish is brown beef based Japanese current that has braised beef chunks and carrots and potatoes. It is served over steamed white rice and also with a katsu pork cutlet (deep fried pork chop; no bones). Garnished with pickled radish. This is my favorite dish here. I have always loved Japanese curry and have a hard time finding it. Tora does it right. Like some of the places I used to frequent when I was in the Bay Area. It is thick, flavorful and is the perfect companion to white rice. Get extra pickled radish as a compliment and to add some crisp to each bite. Miso soup is one of the better misos I have had. Broth is heavier and more flavorful. They don't skimp on the seaweed or tofu either. When you order it, ask for the big ass miso. Not exactly a menu item but they serve it to me in a big bowl. You may get charged extra but you get a lot of miso. Gyoza taste hand made with a good amount of pork filling and perfectly pan fried (potsticker style). Served with a soy sauce based dip. The tuna and avocado salad is fantastic. Ahi tuna poke with avocado chunks in a soy based glaze with sliced onions in a lettuce bowl. Then it is served with crisp romaine with a ginger sesame dressing. Super flavorful. But of course if you don't like raw tuna, refrain from ordering this dish. The sashimi was fresh and just plain good. I've not had mackerel before and it was probably my favorite of the three. Didn't actually care much for the striped bass. Amazing hidden sushi restaurant in Gahanna! We tried a few different menu items for our first trip. The shrimp tempura appetizer was delicious and the shrimp were a good size! Sunday Morning roll and Halo roll were excellent and decently priced for basic rolls. There's a wide variety of sushi rolls available and specials on Tuesday. Also enjoyed the salad with house-made ginger dressing (dressing was so goooood!) and chicken teriyaki stone pot. Everything tasted very fresh and the large menu has options for every taste. Restaurant wasn't busy on Sunday night and the service we experienced was very attentive and friendly. The environment was very clean and well decorated. You must try! read more

HOW in the world has NO one told me about this place??? I am flabbergasted and upset that I am just not finding out about this place!! I've been to several sushi places and there is one I frequent in Pickerington. I just happened to look this place up on Yelp to see if I could find some other really good ones near me. My sushi buddy was just as astounded as I was at all the items available. I used to live in Japan and have been looking for authentic katsudon (had only seen it authentically @ Akai Hana). Lo & behold I ordered it here and it was authentic!! Sooo happy! Only problem is the katsu sauce, not too good, but that was the ONLY problem & that's a small one. My friend & I got the sampler and loved every single thing on it! I got the California Dream Roll (in addition to the Katsudon) and she got the firecracker roll. LOOVED IT! Did I say LOVED IT?? We WILL be returning for Kalbi (Korean BBQ, only other authentic place I've had it here is @ Poong Mei, where many Koreans go). read more

Great sushi place not only around this area but in general. I'm extremely picky when it comes to sushi and when my favorite restaurant was closed for the day we went to try tora. The atmosphere is very nice and reminds me of a clean fancier restaurant. We sat at the bar and had quick service. The fish tastes extremely fresh and when the sashimi melts like butter in your mouth you know it's good. The spicy salmon with tempura flakes is great here as well as the salmon sashimi. read more

My husband and I got a baby sitter (rare) and went out searching for a nice place to eat for our anniversary....we are not from around here and so we really didn't expect EVERY restaurant at Easton Towne Center to be packed and have wait times of an hour and a half. After aimlessly walking and a little bickering I finally decided to look for a restaurant on Yelp that was more off the beaten path. This place was the gem amidst a pile of rocks. The ambience, the service, the FOOD was so excellent! We asked the waiter to recommend a spicy sushi roll and he suggested the Jay Roll and it was SO GOOD. Crunchy, spicy, warm and just delicious! The second favorite roll that we ordered was the Citrus Roll....it had paper thin sliced lemon on top and it was some of the best sushi I had ever had. I ordered a vegetarian roll (it was called the Blue something) that had mango and a blueberry sauce on top that even my husband loved (and he isn't into vegetarianism lol)... The Tango Shrimp roll was a little bland, as well as the spicy salmon but both were still very well prepared and yummy. We also had the sampler appetizer and let me tell you: their calamari is excellent. It was lightly fried and then tossed with small broccoli heads and what looked to be onions? And then covered with this green pesto like sauce....it was just delicious. We finished the meal with their Mochi icecream plate and, well, who doesn't love Mochi icecream? Came here on a Saturday night and we were able to get a seat right away. The place was busy but it wasn't insane. I liked the decor a lot and the lighting - that was the first thing I noticed. I felt a weird vibe from the staff though. Like everyone in there was miserable. Our server was nice but very reserved and the whole thing just felt off. After reading some of the reviews on here, I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to their boss. Anyway, we received everything in a timely manner. The sushi was amazing. My friend and I ordered three rolls to split amongst us (Tora Special, California Dreaming, and UFO roll) and each one was so insanely delicious. This might be the best sushi I've ever had. The rolls were huge, had a good amount of fish in each, and were more than enough for the two of us. My friend also ordered a curry dish that he said was was delicious. I also got a miso soup, which I normally skip, because I was still snarfley from the flu and it really hit the spot to soothe my raw throat. This place is definitely worth the trip out to Gahanna for the sushi alone but one star deducted due to the uncomfortable vibe from the place. read more

I've visited Tora regularly since 2015, and always loved their sushi. However, my past few experiences with them have been nothing but disappointing! I've ordered out several times, but been disappointed. Last time I got kalbi beef - raw and undercooked. This time, I got 3 rolls of sushi - 20$ - but it was missing ingredients, like spicy sauce, which made it unenjoyable to eat. Tora is one of my favorite restaurants, and one where I take my friends to quite often, so I hope these are isolated experiences. I'm unhappy with what I've gotten. read more

Don't eat at Tora Restaurant. Very Bad Service. Don't stand behind their dishes. I bought a carry out. They gave me uncooked and bad tasting dish. I took it back for replacement. Talked to their Manager Han. But she was very impolite and almost belligerent. She did not replace my bad order. She said I can not talk to her supervisor. Bad faith business, she kept the returned dish but did not replace it. So cheap, just for few dollars of profit she refused to believe the customer. read more
