Great views of Berlin from the Observatory Deck and restaurant. Just make sure you keep your ticket to go in AND leave. The views are amazing and the tables all have a good view. You go 360 degrees in am hour so you won't miss a view. We started with the Dornberg wine which was pretty good. The menu doesn't tell you what wine or year but we got a bottle and it was 2012. The tomato soup was tasty but small. And we got the ravioli which was just the right amount and came with a nice salad. It had some pesto sauce which added to the flavor. For dessert, we got the black forest cake which was licht and delivious. Try and look at the desserts as they are not all listed in the menu and it seems they have better choices. All and all a great place to celebrate my birthday!

Nothing will label you a tourist faster than paying the 9.50 Euros to stand in a line for a half-hour, getting pat down by security guards, figuring out how to insert your ticket into the machine, and squeezing yourself among deodorant-challenged tourists in the small elevator that takes you to the top of this Space Needle knockoff. It was built in the late sixties to show off East German dominance, and it still has that cold, austere look about it on the outside visible from most everywhere in Berlin. Once up there, you have to fight tooth and nail for a view, but luckily, with 360 degrees to choose from, you're bound to get a snapshot or two of worthwhile vistas. After I did a complete circle, I made an impulsive move to try their revolving restaurant upstairs. I'm sorry I did. Even though there were plenty of tables adjacent to the window, the hostess saw fit to seat me at an interior table given that I was a party of one. The menu selection was downright dreary as if it represented the meal plan for a retirement home in Miami. Still recovering from breakfast, I decided to go for two appetizers - a 9-Euro Grilled Rissole Steak on a Bread Roll with a Salad - which in reality, was a mealy hamburger with greens and strange dribbles of ketchup and mayo (see photo), as well as the 12-Euro Pumpkin Trilogy - which presents the slices of pumpkin braised, boiled and marinated in a mixed frisee salad (see photo). The pumpkin plate was actually decent enough, but what happened after I finished was appalling even for a tourist trap. My waiter did a disappearing act mid-meal. Getting the attention of the wait staff for the next 45 minutes - yes, 45 minutes - was a comedy of errors as they moved like androids on amphetamines ignoring anyone who wasn't at their own tables. I finally flagged down a waitress who saw I was flustered and took that moment to pretend she didn't speak English. I couldn't wait to get out of there despite the panoramic views, but of course, I faced another twenty-minute queue to get down the tower. Go if you want the lovely views in your digital camera but not if you want great food in your stomach. FOOD - 2.5 stars...bland food fit for a brunch with grandma and her bridge club AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...well, the views are nice....they should be SERVICE - 2 stars...I can get ignored back in the US TOTAL - 2 stars...the service and the long queues drop this down the list of Berlin priorities

My baked potato lunch was pretty good. Sour cream different than American. Much thicker and a bit tart.

This iconic monument is a place one should visit in Berlin. The view is amazing, and having a meal in the restaurant made it more special. Regular tickets for the elevator are €12.50, but splurge and get the VIP tickets for €19.50! The VIP tickets gets you to the front of the line and a guaranteed window seat at the restaurant above the observation level, which is the whole point of dining upstairs, isn't it? If you want to save some money on the food, go during lunch time. Their lunch menu was quite nice, and if you don't like it, they will allow you to order from the full menu as well. I ordered a baked potato with roast beef and spring greens. It wasn't quite what I imagined, as the greens were on top of my potato, and the sour cream was different than American, in which it was much thicker and a bit tart. Service isn't the best, but I guess being an American, my standards are different than European service. And, being in Europe, no refills.

This is the best way to experience the tv station. You get to see the view without the crowd and have good food while seeing it. It slowly takes you around so you get to see every view. Make a reservation for breakfast with a window view! We had no line and great coffee!

Was this a very touristy thing to do? Yes, yes it was. The meal was ok and the drink menu was very lacking as was the service. I definitely would not go for dinner but instead lunch because the view was very nice. It was very cool is see the stark difference between old East and the old West. If you have a Berlin Welcome Card you can take €5 off your bill per person. All and all, it worth it if you want a nice view, but don't expect a wonderful meal.

Wow what a view was my first thought. We sad down at our prebooked table by the window. We had a ticket for "Herbstfrühstück" which was obvious that it was prepared in advance as the water melon on top of the slices of cheese had watered the cheese and made it too wet. Luckily there was another kind of cheese as well. In all a pretty basic continental breakfast serving. I would not go here for the food but for the lovely and rotating view with descriptions of what you pass by. It gives you a great view of Berlin especially if you go and explore the city afterwards.

This place is amazing. Would highly recommend spending the money on ticket table reservations. The view is amazing, and the place is so well kept in its original style. The food is incredible good for a place like this, 200+ meters above ground. Staff is really sweet and helpful.

What a disappointment, we had booked the restaurant a couple weeks prior to our trip to Berlin. Our booking was made for 8:30pm... we had a confirmation of this by email. We were made aware that we needed to pay separate for entrance up to the tower. Upon our arrival we were stopped by security which turned us and a number of guests away for no apparent reason. I know we were in Germany but he wasn't bilingual and explain why, we managed to understand that we needed tickets for this but the ticket sales was inside the venue which he would not grant us access too. By being persistent and keep showing him our confirmation email he eventually let us in. We were then placed in another line for about 45min before we even made it up. I don't see the point to wait in line for 45 minutes if we had reservations. We eventually made it to the restaurant, while the views were nice the service was slow. Tables next to use stayed dirty the whole time we were there. Out of the 4 glasses that were on our table one had a bad chip in the rim and the other two was dirty. I could go on but I think that I've put my point across. The food was ok but not great. The long wait in line and long wait for service just ruined our experience. Attach is a photo of the dirty and chip glass (if I did not see that I could have cut my lip drinking). I would not come back again.

Booked a table for marriage day with my wife. Service food and view is awesome and very authentic. Every tower team member knew about our day and we received congratulations and a card. Sunset was unbelievable.. Looking forward to come back

What can I say, the views of the very grey Berlin on an equally grey December day were surprising good. And went some way towards making up for the extremely over priced lunch. While the food was tasty I don't think it was quite up to standard to justify the €90 bill (baring in mind we had already paid €47 for 2 people admission fee to the viewing tower and reserve a window seat!!) We both had soup to start, I had the pumpkin soup and he had the tomato soup. Mine was very tasty but the portion was very small. For mains I had salmon with garlic & chilli pasta. Like it was tasty but not amazing either. He had the beef tenderloin and dear God it was tiny! I mean teensy and it came served with 2 fancy rosti type things, again not substantial enough to satisfy. We also had 2 glasses of house white. Decent enough wine. It was cool novelty to sit by the window and literally watch the world go by while having lunch. But at the guts of €150 all in (food & admission fee) I was not over awed. Its no top of the Empire State!!!

Halibut. Dim lighting with "stars" in the ceiling set a great mood!

An obvious tourist destination, but I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I chose the menü 1, which included a fantastic app (surf and turf) consisting of steak tartare with a jumbo shrimp, some foie gras, and a smoked salmon sorbet (sounds strange but was amazing). Entree was halibut with a red pesto and tempura veggies. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal as did my partner who had a salad and sauerbraten. I really liked that chefs food has a French style with German flavors. As for price and service. It was a little pricey, but as with everything you are also paying for the experience. Service was snappy and friendly (by European standards). I will come back here for another great meal the next time I'm in Berlin.

We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

German food can be hard to find in Berlin…read more You can find German food at Prater Garten. Prater Garten has a double distinction. Outdoors, it has the oldest biergarten in Berlin. Indoors, it has an upscale German restaurant of distinction. The biergarten is not my style. If I am going to spend all day sitting outside drinking beer, I want the location to be outstandingly beautiful. Prater Garten's Plain Jane courtyard doesn't cut it. The indoor restaurant though is a different story. This is the traditional German restaurant of your dreams. The Gaststatte was the culinary peak experience of a month of serious Berlin eating. * * * Prater Gaststatte looks just the way you would expect a German restaurant to look. Dark woods. Wainscotting. Cream walls. The menu for both food and drink are limited, although they do change seasonally. This means that they make the same dishes over and over and over again. They have brought them to a high level of perfection. They only serve three beers at Prater Gaststatte, beers they brew themselves. I have no doubt those beers are wonderful. However, Prater Gaststatte had the Holy Grail of what I had come to Germany looking for Artisanal German Schnapps and Artisanal German Distilled Spirits. Bars in Berlin just don't carry those. Prater Gaststatte had a curated selection of six. (Actually a curated selection of five. The sixth item was a traditional Czech rarity.) Indiana Jones had just found his treasure. German Spirits are strong. Judiciousness limited my consumption to three. I went with a Nordhauser Doppelkorn, a Dirker Hasselnussgeist and a Stahl Birnenschnaps. Doppelkorn is a German alternative to vodka. It is 76 proof, just slightly weaker than a traditional vodka. It can be made from any of five different grains, but the rye-malt combo is the most common. The Nordhauser is an eminently superior alt-vodka - consummately smooth yet full of taste. I could have done a string of those happily. The Dirker and Stahl were both schnapps: hazelnut and pear respectively. I have never had a beverage like the hazelnut schnapps. It was not a liqueur. It was a strong brandy. Nothing sweet or cloying here. It was commanding like a brandy but smooth like the Doppelkorn. The hazelnut taste was overwhelming. It was as baritone and nutty as an Amaretto. An utterly unforgettable beverage. I stuck my neck out by going with a pear brandy. Most pear brandies are awful. I had had one and only one in my life that was good, the Finnish product Xante. Nothing is as good as Xante. Xante tastes like the canned pears served in heaven. But the Stahl Birenschnapps impressed. Nothing cloying. A real fresh pear taste. I was a very happy guy. * * * Note that although my beverages were outstanding, The food was even better. Given the quality of my distilled spirits, that last sentence is saying quite a lot. Never mind the strawberries I had for dessert. It is the beginning of strawberry season in Germany, And my meal had been so substantial that anything other than fruit would have been a crime. Spring is asparagus season in Germany. German restaurants will have one third to one half of all the dishes be asparagus dishes. I ate my fair share of mediocre asparagus dishes elsewhere in Berlin. The cream of asparagus soup at Prater Gaststatte is utterly to die for. Nothing tastes more like asparagus than that cream soup. And good cream soups are one of the fundamental pleasures of life. However, the headliner act which blew me away was their Brandenburger Pork Chop. A Brandenburger Pork Chop is a thick double-cut pork chop. The only way to get a "good" pork chop in the United States is to go to a steak house and pay steak house prices. American steak houses typically cheat by cooking it in apple juice so the pork chop gets caramelized. You eat well, but you are still covering up a ho-hum pork chop. This was a we-don't-have-to-hide-under-anything superlative pork chop. Yes there was about a tablespoon of red cabbage on top of the pork chop. It was like a maraschino cherry on top of a huge slab of meat. That pork chop had nothing to apologize for. It was a magnificent piece of meat. Easily a third of it was outer fat - outer fat that had been broiled to perfection. The pork chop fat was the star ballerina. The pork chop meat was the male dancer holding up that ballerina in a romantic pas-de-deux. It was the absolutely perfect pairing. (Anyone who uses that pork chop and ballet to make a joke about "Swine Lake" will be thrown off Yelp permanently.) Suffice it to say, I liked the meat course. Accompanying that was the potatoes au gratin of your dreams, And the green beans with bacon of your dreams. I never wanted to wake up. * * * If you come to Berlin, Come to Prater. Skip the Biergarten. Eat at the Restaurant. Deutscheland, Deutscheland Uber Alles!
