My wife and I were going to a Duke basketball game and decided we were going to get something to eat prior to game time. We've been on the hunt for a good cheesesteak and she had this place on her radar for a while, so it was the perfect time to check this place out. There were so many options and choices that it took me a little bit of time to finally make a decision. I went with the wall town cheesesteak. It comes with a load of stuff! The steak of course... then you got Cajun sausage, fried onions, bacon with provolone cheese, and chipotle mayo. Then, fries on top of it as well? Oh my! This thing was so fresh and so good! They don't skimp you on the toppings, you definitely get an everything that you are supposed to on it on every bite. We also got an order of the garlic Parmesan cheese fries. They also tasted very good. I think hand cut fries are my favorite type to eat. They go very well with cheesesteaks, so I appreciate them having these. Only took about 15 minutes for everything to come out, which I thought was pretty good based off of the amount of people that were there. My suggestion... order yourself a whole cheesesteak. First time there. Had to order at a kiosk. I wanted the wings & fries but for some reason they were out. I opted for a jerk chicken cheesesteak instead. Because they didn't have what I went there for they gifted me some extras for free. Had a short wait, took my order to go. Delicious! The jerk chicken sauce was hot enough. The meat was tender and the bun was soft like I like it. The cheesesteak is huge!!!! The fries were seasoned perfectly! They even tasted good by the time they got down to room temperature. I will definitely return. While I understand the trend of ordering at kiosks, I don't like them. One trip to Reno's, and it's now one of my favorite Durham sandwich shops! The food is positively standout. We got the seasoned fries, which came out hot and crispy and perfectly seasoned. We ended up not using the ketchup we asked for because they were so tasty on their own. There were boxes of potatoes around the restaurant (a la five guys), so I think they make them from scratch. Best fries in Durham, I think! I'm looking forward to trying their other seasoning variations as well. There's more options in the online ordering than the PDF menu on their website right now. We got both a chicken and steak cheesecake. Both came out gooey, cheesy, and delicious. But the standout was the duck chopped cheese, made with ground duck, cheese, and pickled peppers. It was positively overflowing with filling and weighed like, 5 pounds. I'm looking forward to many return visits to taste my way around the menu. My pro-tips: order ahead online. Ordering in the store is just at a toast tab screen, and they pack up everything the same way, so you might as well save yourself some time. I had been wanting to try this place for a while since my wife let me know there was a new cheesesteak place at Woodcroft. Sadly their hours are pretty limited. We made time on a Saturday evening and placed an online order. We ordered two of their signature sandwiches. The Surf and Turf (steak and shrimp) we ordered sweet peppers but they forgot those. We also ordered the Chicken, Bacon and cheddar. We also ordered the lemon pepper fries. The online ordering was very prompt and they have lots of options on their website to choose from, yet they still got the order wrong. Both sandwiches were ok. The flavor profiles while very bold were nothing that exciting. The fries were amazing. While it's always great to order from a local place, the cheesesteak we got seemed almost less impressive than something you can get from Jersey mikes. I'd be curious to try them again but just going for a more basic create your own cheesesteak for a more classic flavor. The place was very clean with easy parking and sit-down spots available in the restaurant but it's pretty much a kiosk only order system for pickup. I consider this place a hidden gem of the Woodcroft Shopping Cntr. After discovering it a few months ago; I wasn't quite sure if they were actually open at first because they are nestled in such an obscure location that doesn't have a marque. The owner/manager is a kind soul and makes you feel right at home with intelligent, yet laid-back conversation. From his presence alone, you can tell that he's a real entrepreneur who takes pride in his craft. So...let's get to the crux of this review: The Food! Upon my first initial visit, the owner recommended the OG Steak Cheesesteak. I got the whole with a ton of accoutrements along with the Lemon Pepper Cajun Fries. Let me tell ya...the phrase, "we eat first with our eyes and then our mouths" comes to mind when I got home with my order! The Cheesesteak was masterfully made with more meat in a steak roll than I have seen in my life. It was simply a thing of beauty. It made no sense how delicious that OG Steak was to my tastebuds. Ridiculous levels of flavor! Literally took me two days to eat that monster of a Cheesesteak. Stopped by for some takeout tonight. When you come in they have two tablets to place your order and pay on. You put in your phone number to get a text message when your order is ready. It didn't look super busy so we were surprised by the wait time which was about 40mins. Next time we would definitely order online for pickup instead. There is some seating inside but very little. They also have some tables outside right in front. For drinks they have some bottled options like soda and water and then house made tea and lemonade. The fries tasted very similar to five guys definitely homemade. The cheese garlic flavor we got was super delicious. We got two full cheesesteaks but we could have shared one or gotten a half instead. For size reference in the picture the sandwich was the size of my lower arm. Great price for the portion. This restaurants is in the Woodcroft area near where we live and we had been following them on social media before popping in on a Thursday evening. I'd have to say our dining experience was mixed. The food was fine (OG cheesesteak, mushroom cheesesteak, seasoned fries, lemonade and ice tea) but our interaction with the manager was odd. When we first walked in, I grabbed a menu and he chided me for not going directly to the touchscreen, saying I didn't need to bother with the menu (then why have them?). Then after our food was delivered, he chided my wife for ordering the mushroom cheesesteak and making fun of vegans, which she is not. He tried to couch it with a "I'm just kidding" but by that point I was kind of annoyed. There is also a sign on the wall saying there are condiments, but there was nothing there. This restaurant just opened recently in our neighborhood not too far for my home. It's small and bright and simple on the inside. The service is always fast and friendly but the star of this place is the food. The cheesesteaks are so good! They are big and affordable at $14 for a large cheesesteak packed with meet and cheese. This place is my new guilty pleasure. It's usually not very busy which I hope it grows in popularity because it really is that good. 5 out of 5 no complaints just good food. We ate at Reno's Cheesesteak for the first time at the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. I got a half OG cheesesteak and Nik got the whole Walltown cheesesteak. I ordered honey buffalo lemon pepper wings, got home and realized it was sweet chilli wings instead. I could not return due to my schedule for the day. I tried to contact the business, they had no working phone number so I messaged them on TikTok and Instagram and left a comment. Following day, I went to the establishment and was told I got what I paid for even though the ingredients "honey buffalo lemon pepper" was not present at all, the wings was nothing like what was pictured on the website and instead clearly the wrong flavor. He claimed they would change the picture on the site to the picture of the garlic sweet chilli which would be incredibly misleading if you're expecting honey buffalo. I had been hearing about this place for months and finally got a chance to try it out. Wow! It lived up to the hype. Definitely the best cheesesteak I've had in Durham, and probably the Triangle. Fries were incredible, too. A couple of cautions: - The half is plenty. I went with a whole and it was nice to have leftovers, but there was no way I could have eaten the whole in one sitting. So if you don't have a way to get the leftovers in a fridge afterwards, order the half. - They don't have tap water available (or a soda fountain machine). I don't remember ever going to a restaurant that didn't have free water available. - Our two orders took awhile to prepare, but we were their first customers of the day and in no hurry. Great ingredients and attention to detail. Very good bread and hand cut fries. I've ordered from them 5-6 times now and never been disappointed with the food. Their physical location leaves something to be desired. You get there and while they do have a few tables for dine in, it's pretty sparse and sterile and you get the feeling that they don't actually want you to stay. If you live near their location it's awesome for takeout and go. But all the times I've ordered from them, it seems like they sometimes have delivery options through Toast or other apps, and sometimes it's dine in or carry out only. There's a Randy's pizza across the street that does a serviceable cheesesteak. I don't know where all these five star reviews came from. There was almost nothing good about this place except the sandwich was OK. The interior looks like a cheap fast food restaurant at. When we went in, it was cold outside and just as cold inside. we had to keep our heavy coats on while we were eating. I don't know who said the service was good, but there was absolutely no service at all. There were menus on our table that didn't correspond to what they had on their website. And you had to go to a kiosk on the other wall to put in your order. It was not intuitive. You put in your name and they either call your name out or send you a text when your order is ready. They do not deliver it to your table. And the restaurant has absolutely no dishes, nothing that would need to be washed. If you ask for them, they will give you a plastic fork. The way our food was presented to us, was wrapped in sheets of paper, which did not necessarily keep the sandwich insides from oozing out the edges. The french fries were served in a paper bag which ended up greasy all over the outside of it. I had the garlic fries which I think we're either four dollars or $4.50. When I got them, they were barely warm and soggy, not crispy at all. Huge disappointment. And if you wanted to catsup, which it needed because they were not very well seasoned, that came in those tiny packets that take seven or eight off to get enough ketchup out to put on your fries. And you had to go back up to the counter and practically beg for that. I'm was not thirsty but I knew I needed something to drink with it but somehow I couldn't find that on the order form so I was just going to get a cup of tapwater. When I went up to the counter to ask for it they said they didn't have that, that everything was in bottles. I inquired about the tea they had advertised in different flavors, but that also came only in a plastic bottle. And they only had one flavor left. For four dollars a bottle. So I opted for the bottle water for $2.10. I should let you know that it wasn't cold. It was room temperature. I forgot the name of the sandwich I had but it had beef, bacon, french fries onion , and maybe some garlic mayonnaise, the one thing I could say good about it, was that it was huge. I think definitely enough for two meals for anybody. But to wrap up our leftovers, we had to use the paper that it originally came in, which was messy so we went back up to the counter and asked for more papers. They gave us one. We finally gave up and wrapped it up in the messy papers, then went back and they finally gave plastic bag to put it all in to to carry with us. It was our responsibility to clean up our own tables. Nobody worked there ever came to our table for anything. They also do not help us order so I don't know why they even gave us an option to put a tip in. If I had known, that would be absolutely no service I would've left a zero tip. I seldom give restaurants this bad of a review, but I felt it was my responsibility to give people the other side of it since it has so many stellar reviews and I don't know where the heck they came from. Maybe they came at different times during the day or the week. I don't know if they're open in the evening but they seem to be open only two days a week for lunch. I guess the owner is trying to make a good thing there, but I don't think he's doing a very good job of it and if he disappoints as many people as he did us, I don't think he's gonna be in business very long, which is a shame because I think it has potential, but it certainly hasn't been met there. And there is a limited drink selection, but ordering and paying ( via kiosk) is simple, and food was ready in about 5 mins. A little tucked away in the Hope Valley shopping center is this gem of a place for great food and service. The cheesesteak was amazing along with the hand cut fries.
