1/4 of the chicken cheesesteak with bacon and fried onions; seasoned fries on the side
Rosa L.

One trip to Reno's, and it's now one of my favorite Durham sandwich shops! The food is positively standout. We got the seasoned fries, which came out hot and crispy and perfectly seasoned. We ended up not using the ketchup we asked for because they were so tasty on their own. There were boxes of potatoes around the restaurant (a la five guys), so I think they make them from scratch. Best fries in Durham, I think! I'm looking forward to trying their other seasoning variations as well. There's more options in the online ordering than the PDF menu on their website right now. We got both a chicken and steak cheesecake. Both came out gooey, cheesy, and delicious. But the standout was the duck chopped cheese, made with ground duck, cheese, and pickled peppers. It was positively overflowing with filling and weighed like, 5 pounds. I'm looking forward to many return visits to taste my way around the menu. My pro-tips: order ahead online. Ordering in the store is just at a toast tab screen, and they pack up everything the same way, so you might as well save yourself some time. Bring your own water if you don't want to buy drinks (the restaurant itself is pretty minimalist; there's plastic utensils and paper towel rolls to help yourself to, but I didn't see any water jugs or dispensers). And for families with kids, they have a high chair (along with some tables and booths for seating).

I had been wanting to try this place for a while since my wife let me know there was a new cheesesteak place at Woodcroft. Sadly their hours are pretty limited. We made time on a Saturday evening and placed an online order. We ordered two of their signature sandwiches. The Surf and Turf (steak and shrimp) we ordered sweet peppers but they forgot those. We also ordered the Chicken, Bacon and cheddar. We also ordered the lemon pepper fries. The online ordering was very prompt and they have lots of options on their website to choose from, yet they still got the order wrong. Both sandwiches were ok. The flavor profiles while very bold were nothing that exciting. The fries were amazing. While it's always great to order from a local place, the cheesesteak we got seemed almost less impressive than something you can get from Jersey mikes. I'd be curious to try them again but just going for a more basic create your own cheesesteak for a more classic flavor. The place was very clean with easy parking and sit-down spots available in the restaurant but it's pretty much a kiosk only order system for pickup. Nothing terribly exciting to make you want to stick around.

A ton of steak! Real Cheesesteak!

I consider this place a hidden gem of the Woodcroft Shopping Cntr. After discovering it a few months ago; I wasn't quite sure if they were actually open at first because they are nestled in such an obscure location that doesn't have a marque. So you have to look intently for the large, green 'Open' sign near the entrance. Just one door down from West 94th St. Pub. Conventionally spartan, yet very clean space once you're inside. There are two kiosks for self-service ordering, although web ordering is available through Toast or their website (highly recomment using Toast). Nice sturdy seating indoors and outdoors. The owner/manager is a kind soul and makes you feel right at home with intelligent, yet laid-back conversation. From his presence alone, you can tell that he's a real entrepreneur who takes pride in his craft. So...let's get to the crux of this review: The Food! Upon my first initial visit, the owner recommended the OG Steak Cheesesteak. I got the whole with a ton of accoutrements along with the Lemon Pepper Cajun Fries. Let me tell ya...the phrase, "we eat first with our eyes and then our mouths" comes to mind when I got home with my order! The Cheesesteak was masterfully made with more meat in a steak roll than I have seen in my life. It was simply a thing of beauty. It made no sense how delicious that OG Steak was to my tastebuds. Ridiculous levels of flavor! Literally took me two days to eat that monster of a Cheesesteak. Upon my next visit, I gave the owner well deserve accolades and informed him that I will be telling my friends about how much I enjoyed the experience. So, keeping to my word, my friends...please check out this place for yourselves. The experience will surely bring a smile to your inner face.

The establishment is kept very clean and there is seating available. When you walk in you use the kiosk to order your food to go or to dine in. You can also order ahead for a quick pick up they do get a steady stream of customers at a time from what I saw. The staff was friendly and recommended you create your own if it's your first time. I tried the chopped turkey which was good with the lemon pepper fries. My daughter tried the chicken cheesesteak which she devoured lol. I would definitely return to try a different sandwich. I did try the watermelon lemonade which was ok (was hoping for a less watermelon syrupy flavor).

Stopped by for some takeout tonight. When you come in they have two tablets to place your order and pay on. You put in your phone number to get a text message when your order is ready. It didn't look super busy so we were surprised by the wait time which was about 40mins. Next time we would definitely order online for pickup instead. There is some seating inside but very little. They also have some tables outside right in front. For drinks they have some bottled options like soda and water and then house made tea and lemonade. The fries tasted very similar to five guys definitely homemade. The cheese garlic flavor we got was super delicious. We got two full cheesesteaks but we could have shared one or gotten a half instead. For size reference in the picture the sandwich was the size of my lower arm. Great price for the portion. I've only had a few cheesesteaks in the triangle but definitely the best I've had so far.

This restaurants is in the Woodcroft area near where we live and we had been following them on social media before popping in on a Thursday evening. I'd have to say our dining experience was mixed. The food was fine (OG cheesesteak, mushroom cheesesteak, seasoned fries, lemonade and ice tea) but our interaction with the manager was odd. When we first walked in, I grabbed a menu and he chided me for not going directly to the touchscreen, saying I didn't need to bother with the menu (then why have them?). Then after our food was delivered, he chided my wife for ordering the mushroom cheesesteak and making fun of vegans, which she is not. He tried to couch it with a "I'm just kidding" but by that point I was kind of annoyed. There is also a sign on the wall saying there are condiments, but there was nothing there. They seem to do a lot of takeout business, as several people popped in to get their food while we were dining. Recap: food is fine but staff was not very customer-friendly.

This restaurant just opened recently in our neighborhood not too far for my home. It's small and bright and simple on the inside. The service is always fast and friendly but the star of this place is the food. The cheesesteaks are so good! They are big and affordable at $14 for a large cheesesteak packed with meet and cheese. This place is my new guilty pleasure. It's usually not very busy which I hope it grows in popularity because it really is that good. 5 out of 5 no complaints just good food. This will not help my diet goals but it's such a good indulgence. Check it out y'all!

The food was really good and made to order. The service was quick and the ambiance for this type restaurant was fine.

This is a terrific place to enjoy an awesome cheesesteak and fries! We walked and was warmly greeted. The gentleman walked up and provided updates to the menu. Apparently, the hot chicken wasn't selling for some reason. Well that might be because the cheesesteaks are so awesome that I don't even think I would gotten to it! The place is small but has outdoor seating. Very clean and overall a great new addition to the area. We will be back!!!

I got the half cheesesteak so I could leave room for the Parmesan French fries, and that was the move.

Yum! After touring Duke my daughter and I were hungry. We…read morethought about eating in their amazing dining hall, but i suggested we go elsewhere since she'd be eating there all week for a tennis camp. Yelp told me this delicious sandwich shop was just 5 minutes away, which seemed like the perfect option. It was a hot summer day and I couldn't believe how many people were sitting outside in the heat. We got the last table in the air conditioned inside, which made me happy. We placed our orders at the counter: - The Jane for me - Pine Street Pimento for my daughter and a bag of chips (salt & vinegar for me) for both! We did the smaller size sandwiches which were still quite large, but we were quite hungry and finished them off. They were so good that I even thought about coming back for lunch the next day, but knew there were plenty of delicious restaurants in the area to try. However, i'll come again when back in the area!

Options for vegan diets that's still keeps essence of original sandwich which I appreciated (impossible chicken tenders for cutlets). Great space! Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. I discovered the garden this time around and enjoyed sitting out there for my meal. Came on a Saturday afternoon and it was not very busy. Ordered the mozzarella sticks and the chicken cutlet sandwich (regular). The sticks were amazing with the sauce! The SS which bread was so fresh and soft as was the chicken cutlet. I wish it had more sauce and a little salt pepper vinegar splash would have gone a long way. A good sandwich but the most amazing or most flavorful sandwich I've ever had. Can't stress how fresh everything tasted though and it was huge only ate half.

I was the only customer, and the friendly Middle Eastern guy in the food truck asked what I wanted: 2 gyro wraps. He asked if I wanted to add hot sauce to my gyros with tzatziki sauce, and I said, "Yes". I asked him where the food truck is based, he said that he goes to different locations, and didn't mention a permanent location. I checked the address here on Yelp and it says it's based in Durham, NC, which is not too far from here. Each gyro wrap cost $12, and my total came up $26+ (I assume with tax included). I was about to pull out $25 cash but after he said total, I pulled $30, and he said not to worry about it. I insisted to give the $30 and he gave a $5 change. I guess I got a $1 discount. He finished cooking both gyros in about 12 min., a bit longer than I expected, considering I was the only customer he was serving at that time. The gyro wraps were served inside a small paper bag, and wrapped in aluminum foil. I was quite surprised at the size of the order for 2 gyros. When I opened my gyro wrap, the size looked regular yet a bit smaller that what I had in last October's State Fair, which was fine, considering the State Fair gyro (which came with side of Greek fries) cost me $18+. However, unlike that State Fair gyro, I did not enjoy A1's main specialty. I would have to agree with what the previous reviewer Renee said, "Onions does not make a Gyro make". I love onions but not too much on my Gyro; this one is loaded with so much onions, lettuce, and tomato to the point that it's drowning the flavors of tzatziki sauce and hot sauce (Did he forget to put it?). The amount of lamb gyro meat didn't seem to justify its $12 price; it's not even spiced well, and the mush of ingredients to hide the fact that it's lacking meat just looked as bad as it tasted. That's not even the worst part. When I ate the gyro wrap, the pita bread tasted soggy, and that unpleasant texture and taste were more emphasized on every bite than the lamb gyro. I was not able to finish it; and just threw my leftover away. As I'm writing this review, my girl hasn't eaten her gyro wrap yet, and I haven't told her what I thought so she could judge by herself. We recently enjoyed an $11+ gyro in Kebab Skewer in Cary, and a $12+ chicken + lamb over rice at Tasty Halal Eats food truck in Morrisville, NC (both I reviewed here on Yelp), and I'm sad to say that A1's gyro wraps were nowhere close to the food quality of those foods and the State Fair gyro I mentioned earlier. The food truck's friendly customer service and 99% Sanitation Score are the only positive things I could say about this food truck. A1's gyro is clearly the opposite of what "A1" means. Overall Score: 1.1/5
