Rennie's Landing Eugene I went into Rennie's after reading a handful of reviews that sounded like people wandered into a college-campus bar and were shocked shocked! to find college kids, energy, and a crowd. Folks complaining about the vibe or the service while standing smack in the middle of the University of Oregon is like being surprised there are Ducks at Autzen Stadium. Context matters, people. My wife and I stopped in recently and had a genuinely great time. The service was solid our bartender was attentive, friendly, and made some damn good drinks. Food? On point. Nothing felt rushed or sloppy, even though you could tell this place knows how to stay busy. And yeah, it does get busy... because it's popular. That's not a flaw, that's a flex. The location is fun, the energy is lively, and I could absolutely see this place turning into a full-on party once the Ducks are flying high or the weekend rolls around. If service ever slows a touch, it's not because they don't care it's because half of Eugene decided Rennie's was the move that night. That's just college-town math. Bottom line: Rennie's Landing knows exactly what it is and where it is. If you come in expecting a quiet wine bar, you're in the wrong zip code. Most of the 1 star reviews seem to stem from folks that can't handle their liquor / have entitlement issues. Or they proceed to explain a valid reason why staff gave em' the boot. There's always two sides to a story... I think Rennie's is awesome and here's why: Service: I mean I'm just in town for the weekend and I pop in for the second day in a row during the afternoon. Pretty slow. Probably less than 10 people total in the establishment. I ordered a drink from a gentleman and went on my way upstairs. Came back down for round two and a female server was asking for the tab name for the order. I told her my last name and she replied with an excited, "Doug!" - I have been told that I have a memorable name in the past, but regardless it was really nice feeling a sense of recognition from staff. Food: When I come back to Eugene and have new people with me, Rennie's is a must. You walk in and you definitely don't get the vibe that the food will be good. Well... your inclination is INCORRECT. The food is damn good! I try not to set high expectations for the people I bring, but I just tell them... for a bar, the food is awesome. I don't know if I have low standards because I'm a 24 year old man, but I stand by my word. Vibes: Rennie's will always have a special place in my heart. It's a place to talk. Rennies is by far the most home-y, cozy bar in the campus area with a wide selection of activities on a weekly basis (karaoke, trivia, bingo, drink wheel) and the best food out of any of the campus bars. I feel safe at rennies, am treated like family, and find peace here when I need it. It is also the go-to spot when I am seeking a lively atmosphere! It really does offer something for everyone. This is exhibited by the wide range of ages of patrons. The food is consistently excellent, drinks are great, never had bad service. The staff is very friendly and they run a tight ship. Do not go to Rennie's. One of the bartenders was physically aggressive, intoxicated while working, and confiscated my valid ID without reason. I'm 21, and it was my friend's 21st birthday. While all of my friends--also of age--were let in without issue, my up to date government-issued ID was denied. The bartender/bouncer, Weston (or Wesley), became immediately hostile. He pushed me to the side when I tried to grab my ID (a natural reaction to an important document being taken from you), yelled at me to get outside, and physically pulled my ID away from me, locking it away in a box behind the bar. I was completely sober and had to call the police just to get my ID back. Weston (or Wesley) saying, "Yea do that, f*cking call them." Absolutely Ridiculous. A BARTENDER SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE CONFLICT NOT START IT. He was clearly drunk on the job. His behavior was unstable and threatening, and it made everyone in our group feel unsafe. When we left and went to Max's instead, we found out this same bartender is actually banned from that bar for getting into a physical altercation with a female customer and punching her in the face. Weston claimed he couldn't see the hologram on my ID, even though others nearby could clearly see it as he showed my ID to other people at the bar without my permission while trying to justify himself. Once it became clear he was wrong, he backed down, but only because police were on the way. At one point, he even confused me with the birthday girl and tried to kick her out instead. When he finally returned my ID, he shoved it into my hands and said, "Whatever, I don't f*cking care, just take it." As I reached to grab it my friends also reached for it at the same time, knowing how important this was. When this happened he lunged at us saying "Woah. NO.", and one of my friends had to physically hold him back to stop him from getting violent with her brother. I also spoke with the owner the following day hoping to resolve the conflict and notify him of the dangerous incident that occurred with his employee. He said he would watch the video tapes but claimed he "didn't see anything physical happen," despite multiple people being shoved and pushed to the side. That tells me customer safety is not a priority here--especially for women. This bar protects someone who is known to be aggressive and unstable. I wouldn't feel safe going back, and I don't think others should either. There are too many great places in town to waste your time or risk your safety here. MAX'S IS THE BEST! DEFINITELY A BETTER AND SAFER OPTION!! read more

UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT!!! Bartender confiscated 1/3 of our parties legitimate California IDs. Wesley immediately approached the situation with aggression and made no effort to deescalate, nor did the other bartender alongside him. He must've been drinking on the job because he claimed to not see the holographic image on the "fake" ID that appeared on the others. As soon as our party compared theirs, they could very clearly see the holographic lines and only then was the bartender "open" to realizing his error (stormed out and continued to yell at us and begrudgingly return the ID). He continued to be very AGGRESSIVE AND PHYSICAL with the people in our party. Out front of the establishment I had to use my arm to RESTRAIN him from initiating a physical altercation with my brother. We were right on the front step, but the bartender had his back to the building and apparently blocked the one angle of the very front of their establishment, so the owners are refusing to take action. This man has been confirmed to be VIOLENT on other occasions and is banned from local bars such as Max's. Regardless of the ID situation, a bartender must be able to deescalate situations as they are knowingly walking into a job that will involve intoxicated people and disagreements. Insane lack of professionalism and was very scary. We are all lucky that this did not end worse. It speaks leaps and bounds that a woman holding him back was not enough for him to check himself and chill out. Shame on Rennie's for condoning violence. read more

Awesome place! My daughter and I walking by decided to stop for apps and a drink. We were greeted by an awesome bartender (I got her name but lost the receipt I wrote it down on) Megan I think? Drinks were awesome cold and perfect! The food was delicious probably best chicken tenders we've had. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders with sidewinder fries MUST ORDER their sidewinder Fries. I just had Motz sticks they were delicious didn't have any freezer type flavor tasted fresh and the cheese was perfect amount lots!!! We stopped here on Christmas Eve to unwind after our family get together. Rennies has been serving the University of Oregon area since 1981, rich in history this is a must stop when visiting the U of O. It is in a converted house and is located on the western edge of campus and just a block from the University of Oregon Bookstore. It is right across the street from the School of Business. They have an outdoor patio both upstairs and on the ground floor. It was not too busy as expected on Christmas Eve and we had the opportunity to interact with the General Manager. Although we only stopped in for drinks, he shared they were making some changes to the menu so the pics I took may not be totally accurate in the near future. The menu looks really good, we wish we weren't so full or we would have tried something! Dad had a coffee, mom had water, my wife had a rum and coke and I had an IPA. We hung out for a little while and checked the place out, I also won $50 playing video lottery. It was really cool to experience and something that has been part of the college scene here for about 40 years. Wishing them another 40 years of success! read more

Rennie's used to be the go to bar in Eugene for its good food, good drinks and it's great customer service. Recently in the past months Rennys has not been the same. On multiple occasions, a bartender with an upper lip piercing has been rude and degrading toward attendees at the bar. He's angry every time I've been in there and seems annoyed by people trying to buy drinks. He often doesn't hesitate to bark orders at customers and shout in their face. I have spoken to many people who have shared the same experience and hope something can be done about his bad attitude and behavior. read more

It has been many years since I have frequented this place. We stopped in not long ago on a Saturday afternoon with my oldest Son to have a drink after having lunch near by. We went to the bar upstairs so we can sit outside. We were served right away, and the lady helping us was nice. I have never had food from here, so I can't really comment on the food. I ended up having a flavored Red Bull drink. I wasn't a fan of the flavor Red Bull. Not the bartenders fault. Just the Red Bull wasn't what I was expecting. It was a flavor I had not tried before. When we wanted more drinks it seems like the service was a little slower. It is your typical college sports bar. It gets pretty packed at night. At least from what I can remember. read more

Rennies will always have a special place in my heart as it is a staple college bar In Eugene. I've been coming here for the past 2 years and have always had a blast. Karaoke Monday and Trivia Tuesdays are definitely the move but go early or it will be hard to find a seat. Thursday - Saturday are usually pretty packed but you can always manage to have a good time here! Try the Rennies lemonade if your looking for a starter drink! This is definitely more of a college bar on the weekends so you can expect a younger croud with cheap food and drinks. I just turned 21 this summer and have frequented Rennie's ever since. So far, I've tried Rennie's lemonade, tequila sunrise, their hot wings, mushroom burger, and tater tots. Everything I got there was pretty good. The lemonade and tequila sunrise are both a little expensive but because both drinks got me buzzed, it was worth the price. Drinks both tasted really good as well and were consistent through the multiple times I've ordered them. Their hot wings and burger tasted alright, was expensive for average food so I probably won't be ordering them again. The tater tots were really good, however, and also served in a large portion so I definitely recommend getting those. Overall my trips to Rennie's have all been pleasant and it is a great place to chill with your friends before or after a night out. read more

We walked into Taylor's on Parents Weekend and quickly walked back out. Yes, they were packed but no one was over 25 and it was loud as hell. Not my kind of place. Rennie's was crowded but much more subdued and my wife and I grabbed a beer on the back patio. Decent service and a really good $4 beer. My son also tells us the tater tots are other worldly much later in the evening. read more

I go to Rennies often and it's fun but extremely overpacked you can't even move. The tipping point of the frustration is the owner or manager. I've heard of her before and her poor customer service but I experienced it myself last night. After my friends and I were standing outside talking she made the security guard kick us out. There was no fighting, no commotion, no reason to kick us out we were just standing, talking, and drinking our drinks we just got from the bar. She hid behind the security guard in a boho hat and just pointed at us like we were doing something wrong. Very confusing situation but extremely disrespectful to paying customers. read more

Noted, I have gone to rennies A few times this past year and each time this employee has had a sour attitude and aggressively rude towards anyone who orders from her. Regardless we tip. The last night one of our friends went up to order our second round of drinks, but because of her rude behavior the first time, he decided he would not leave a tip on the second tab. ( Which was only one $9 drink) The other person with him left a 10% tip. She screamed at them I quote "next time f*ing tip me" Then walked over to the bouncer asking to kick out both of the men. Came to watch a basketball game with friends and my 9 month old. First of all the floors were extremely sticky and they were short staffed so unfortunately service was not great. Then I needed to change my son's diaper and there was no place to do so in the restroom. The floors were not very clean and I wasn't about to put him on the floor. So I quickly changed him at our table. Upon finishing, I was yelled at for doing so because I was being unsanitary. Which I do understand but I was on a bike and had no other choice. I mentioned there was no place to change him in the restroom and was again yelled at that I was being unsanitary. I felt like I was scolded for needing to change my son. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone after being scolded by a staff member. read more

Rennies, in my opinion, is the best place near campus to go on campus for drinks. It's in a perfect location, and definitely draws a crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. It's also a great spot to eat at during the day for lunch or to watch sporting events. Very chill environment, and never gets too rowdy or crowded. As for the food, the go-to for me are the chicken wings and the cheesy bacon tots. This combo will never do you wrong. They do have some other great options like burgers and sandwiches as well. As for the alcohol, it's your typical bar but you have to try their specialty alcoholic beverage, Rennie's Lemonade. Their pitcher beers are fairly cheap as well. The environment is really cool, and looks like a 2 story house. They have a balcony with seating outside, both downstairs and upstairs (food and bar upstairs as well). If you're in Eugene, and looking for a good night out, this is the place to be. read more

I have been to Rennie's Landing twice in the past week. The first time was for brunch and it was pretty okay so I decided to bring a group to trivia tonight (on Tuesday). As an avid bar trivia player this was by far the worst experience I've had. That is to say it isn't a normal bar trivia. It's for college kids who want to cheat on their phones or make stupid guesses up. Which is fine, but it is not for everyone. Just be aware of that prior to getting a group of friends to go to trivia at Rennie's Landing. Will not be back for trivia. Would consider going back another night. read more

This review is for the quality of service. The food was great. My partner and i had to come down for a funeral. We decided to stop and get a drink and food for the night. Sounds good, right? It gets better. Upon entry at the bar upstairs, we were ignored the first few mins, even though we were in line.. Dude had to joke around with his patrons. Finally, our turn. My wife orders a standard fruity drink. I ask for a "mocktail/virgin cocktail" (im 2 years sober). Dude didnt know what that meant. For the DD patrons, they had soda (which why was there vanilla syrup in the Dr. Pepper?) and water. Thats no fun. Ok, so after walking the bartender through a virgin vodka cran with lime, he made a subpar drink. Then loudly upstairs you asked "hey hows that mocktail??" like practicing sobriety is silly. Well dude, at this point I lost it with you. I asked for my tab, amd left you a nice tip. Because, maybe youre not a douche who works in a college bar for shit tips, and maybe you had a rough night. I was for sure. So on leaving, after giving you the receipt back, you laughed a bit and quipped "sucks to be sober" or something like that. Im not here to tell you how to live your life or career. Had it been me, I'd have acknowledged us at the very least, that you were a bit busy. On our way out, I let the main bartender know, about this whole experience. I told him everything about our experience, and my being sober. He was at least apologetic, and his jaw was on the floor. Like i said, the food was great. The ambience is very college bar, laid back. The staff is incredibly rude and unprofessional. The bartender Cassidy repeatedly harassed me and my friends over a microphone because she thought she saw my friend vaping, which she was not. when i said something in defense of my friend, Cassidy threatened to kick me out. At one point she was screaming in my friend's face and none of the managers intervened until my friends and I said something. it was humiliating, degrading and a disgusting display of unprofessionalism. The fries and tots are amazing, let me start out by saying this since I came on May 14. But the waitress was totally rude. She talked down to me when I wasn't the one in our group who didn't order alcohol due to being the designated driver. I said that I am 22 and that if I bother sipping anything, then she'd have to see my ID (correct in essence but uncharitable in tone). Then she yelled at me for throwing a napkin in the trash OUTSIDE on their patio just because I didn't wear a mask to do this one minute thing. I am bartender and I asked for whiskey sour and the bartender was so rude and didn't make it correct so I didn't want to bother her again so I went downstairs to another bartender to fix the drink and he said he couldn't, even when I told him there was a fly in my drink he said that there wasn't even though there clearly was. He then went to remake my drink and asked me what I wanted and was so condscending the whole time. I went to talk to the manager and when I did he pulled his face mask down at me and flipped me off. Happy hour on a relatively sunny Friday afternoon, of course this bar would be packed. After two pitchers of Ninkasi, it is a bit difficult to remember how much each order ended up being, but an entree and two pitchers for about twenty-five bucks seems about average for an outing to a bar. Pitchers during happy hour are probably about ten bucks or a bit less considering our order of the house fish and chips was edging towards eight dollars. The bar itself is literally across the street from campus and there is usually at least one or two tables available even during the busier days. Ground floor level is typically good enough for smaller parties of four or five while upstairs is probably more suitable for larger groups. There is also outdoor seating on the roof deck, but if you are not a smoker then it would probably be ideal to avoid this area. As for the food, the house fish and chips of a red snapper dipped in cornmeal batter was a good complement to a pint glass of Ninkasi, but it was bit over seasoned for my taste. Standard fish and chips, but at least the portion was large enough to get me through two glasses of beer. read more
