Golden Bao

My husband and I just visited Remton for an early dinner. The place is beautifully decorated, and clean. The staff is very nice and welcoming. Their menu is very extensive, they offer Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese options. The service is quick. We started with some golden bao pork buns, beautifully plated, it's an explosion of flavors! Crispy bao bun, tender grilled pork with fresh lettuce and sweet pickled veggies, delicious! Then we had beef stuffed grape leaves, wow we were so impressed by the plating, flavors, and textures in this dish: fresh lettuce, chilled noodles, and grape leaves filled with savory beef, topped with sweet pickled carrot and crunchy peanuts, served with an amazing house sauce. Then we had the Banh Khot Vung Tau, again beautiful plating; they serve you crispy lettuce that you use as a wrapping for your mini shrimp cakes, you add the pickled veggies, fresh aromatics, and dip it in sweet fish sauce, amazing, so fresh and tasty! It is a must if you come to Remton. We were so astonished by the food that we wanted to try something else, so we ordered the creamy blue crab crisp, this are savory pastries filled with creamy crab, served with sweet and sour sauce, great appetizer as well. We are eager to come back!!

Remton at first glance from the outside, it looks likes a typical hole-in-the wall Asian restaurant. However on the inside, Remton is quite classy. You can have a big party dine here. The staff are nice and the prices aren't bad. Remton has a vast menu of Asian cuisine and a full wine bar. There's a big screen that plays movies and a regular screen that only shows Bubble tea and Asian coffee drinks. Why? They don't serve those kinds of beverages here. Unfortunately, the service wasn't great. It took almost an hour for our food to arrive, and they weren't even busy. One of the staff got my order wrong and they kept asking what it was. So annoying!!!! I didn't get my appetizer until AFTER my meal arrived. And it was packed in a to-go box! I'm not coming back anytime soon. Note: Contrary to past reviews, Remton doesn't serve bing-su (Korean shaved ice) anymore.

Remton was beautifully decorated inside. Ready for the holidays! Service however felt VERY slow. Would not recommend going during a lunch break from work unless you order as takeout. The restaurant was only about 50% packed. Bun cha hanoi was lukewarm; took almost 30 minutes for it to come out. This dish usually comes out within 10-15 mins at most Vietnamese restaurants. Banh khot vung tau was one of their newer dishes; was just ok, didn't standout. I've had better bun cha hanoi and banh khot at other restaurants. 4 stars mainly for their new dish, banh beo chen. Now this was super delicious and came out in a timely manner. I believe this banh beo was made Quang Nam style. Fish sauce could be better. If I come back to dine here, it would be for the banh beo and to try their drink options.

Street Food Rice Cakes (banh bot chien)

Brought my mom here for a mother and son lunch date. We've heard about this place around Clear Lake for a while but finally got around to trying it since we usually just drive to Bellaire Blvd for quality Vietnamese food! We were promptly seated in a booth and given menus. The interior is absolutely beautiful, some of the nicest I've seen for a Vietnamese restaurant. They went all out for Christmas, with some cute Instagram-able spots throughout the restaurant. The bar area also looks very nice. We ordered the Street Food Rice Cake (banh bot chien) and Vietnamese Mini Pancakes (banh khot) the rice cakes were so good. I grew up eating these as an appetizer at all the Vietnamese restaurants, and the one here was giant in size and the rice cakes themselves were super crispy, with a good balance of scrambled eggs. The mini pancakes were also very crispy with a nice-sized shrimp atop each one. For entrees, we ordered the Bun Cha Ha Noi and Grilled Pork Vermicelli bowl. This was the largest bowl of Bun Cha Ha Noi I have ever seen. It came out in a soup bowl with the meat slices and patties soaking in a bath of fish sauce. It was delicious and beautifully presented. The vermicelli bowl was also good. For the most part, comparable to other places' but the grilled pork on this one had a nice smoky flavor to it, which deserves extra points. Service was super friendly. Our server spoke to us in Vietnamese and gave us great recommendations. The owner also came by to check on us multiple times and made good conversation with us, telling us about the history of starting the restaurant and some of their other specialties, giving us recommendations for next time! It was almost like our own personal Yelp Elite Event! Pricing is a little on the high side for Vietnamese food, with dishes ranging $15-$19 on average. While this is expensive for Vietnamese food, this is an excellent option for the Clear Lake area where there is much less competition for Viet food. And without having to drive to Bellaire! The portions were also huge; we clearly ordered way too much for 2 of us, but that gave us plenty of leftovers for the next couple days. This was a very solid option for Vietnamese food and we'll definitely be back for more family lunches and dinners! Glad there is a good local option within the 'burbs. I do want to check out their drink options from their full bar, as they also have happy hour specials!

Bun Bo hue

Ambiance- 5 stars. The flower decors and on the ceiling was very beautiful. The restroom was clean and the parking was plentiful. But they are right next to an orange theory so parking might be limited when they have their classes. Food-3 I had bun Bo hue today. Normally when I eat bun Bo hue my nose is runny bc it's so spicy and so good. But this bun Bo hue that they serve here is a mix between bun Bo hue and bun rieu. Not spicy. Seems to me like they added the sate/ chili oil in the soup. There was no depth of flavor in this soup. Their version also has boiled cabbage, bean spout, basil and lime added into the soup. Very different from the others. Which is thinly shaved cabbage raw or even another green curly shaved vegetable like morning glory. Like I said the flavor was not there for me. The soup was hot and the noodles were good. But the broth was not hitting the spot for me yall. Service- when I asked which soup was good, the waitress told me she cannot say lol which is weird. Normally the waiters and waitress will give you their recommendations. But not today and not this waitress. I guess she didn't recommend the bun Bo hue to me bc she knew it wasn't good..? The banh not chien was crunchy but the dip lacked flavor. Come here for a cutesy pic but I think I'd go to my regular go to restaurants good eats.

We came with seven people for lunch on a weekday. They sat us quickly, and service was fast, professional. Interior is quie with divided seating, including a full bar, and everything is beautifully decorated with a colorful modern floral style. I've been a few times and the deco changes seasonally. The menu has just gotten better over time, and has classic Vietnamese items, including milk teas, and now Japanese dishes. I had the pho special, and a Jasmine milk tea, but there are a dozen other items I wanted to try.

I visited this place with my daughter and was highly impressed. The outside doesn't appear to have much going on but the inside blew me away. The food and drinks were amazing alone with amazing customer service. I will return during happy hour

I live in Pearland so it's just a hop, skip and jump over to Clear Lake. This whole area has some hidden gems when it comes to cocktail bars and Rosewater is one of them. It is located just a short drive from 45 in a little shopping strip. Parking can be tight during peak times. I was a little confused walking up because it looked like there were two bars in one. I guess one was the original side and then they expanded. We sat on the right side which was small with bar seating and a few tables off to the side. It looked like the other side was slightly larger. They also have a good sized patio that would be ideal for larger parties. Customer service was great. So I started off with something off the happy hour menu. I went with my tried and true House Old Fashioned. They did it just right. If a place can't execute that, I'm out! I went a little lighter on my next drink. I went with a Rum Swizzle. It's a basic drink but tasty and refreshing. When happy hour ended, I wanted to see how good their Clarified Milk Punch was. Anytime I see it on a menu I got to have it. Just the complexity of it alone is amazing. It drinks so smooth and it just a very delicious drink. They did it really well here. If hunger strikes, they have a pretty decent food menu which I still haven't partook in. Overall, if I am in need of a nice cocktail and just want to catch some back roads to my destination, Rosewater will be the spot. I will most definitely be back!

Getting to this area from Pearland is much easier than heading into Houston so I was more than happy to come here. I've been here a couple of times and the most recent visit brought me and a party bus full of friends here on a Saturday night. The place gets busy but parking hasn't been an issue on any of my visits. It's a narrow bar that may seem tight, but it keeps going towards the back with more seating as well as a spacious patio. Customer service is always great and the bartenders know their stuff here. They have a pretty extensive drink menu here and there is something for everyone's preferences. They have a long list of cocktails and they can make you anything you want as well. The staff are experts here. They also have an impressive bourbon collections with about 200 kinds to choose from. Along with their cocktails, they have a long list of martinis. I love a good martini and here they have so many options. You can't go wrong with my favorite espresso martini, but the one that wowed me here was the Cucumber Patch. Cucumber flavor profile is not typically something I seek out, but I was in the mood for something refreshing and this was suggested to me. Get it and thank me later. As far as food goes, they have a separate BBQ business on site that sells some food. Don't sleep on the Bay Area if you are looking for a nice cocktail. This place will quickly be one of your favorites. I will surely be back.

I've driven by a countless number of times, and you'd never really know it's there. But walking in, you immediately get that local dive bar kinda vibe in the best way possible. I met up with some friends here for a chill drink after work, and to our surprise it was karaoke night! I have to applaud the regulars here because they can really SING! But don't be shy if you can't, they were welcome to everyone going up for a song. As far as drinks go, I had the Alimony. I was sold on it because it's gin, guava juice and elderflower liquor. Balanced, not too sweet, and had a little bit of sparkling effervescence. Pair that with a shot or a beer, and we were having a great time catching up with old friends. I don't remember our bartender's name, but she gave us great service. Overall 10/10 recommend the Davenport Lounge Clear Lake if you're looking for where the locals go, trust me they know best.

I'm all about tropical vibes so we made our way over for a nightcap. Located in a shopping center, parking won't be a problem. We were there pretty late on a Thursday night. Ambiance (4/5): Tiki bars are all about ambiance. Hawaii vibes. What's cool about The Great Kanakas Atomic Tiki Bar, outside of their excellent name, is that they're indoors but the bar makes you feel like you're actually outside. I liked the concept. Relaxed with the vibes you would expect at a tiki bar. Service (4.5/5): We sat at the bar and our bartender was attentive and friendly. She even recommended an off-the-menu drink that other folks like which was a nice touch. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet so I'm not even sure if they have food. Drinks (4/5): When you're at a tiki bar, you're looking for a creative mix of flavors with a nice presentation. I went with a cocktail with such a cool name that I couldn't say no. You'll know it when you see the menu. It's a long name, sounds very Hawaiian, and you'll have difficulty pronouncing it. You'll get a kick out of it. While the drink were solid, I've seen more elaborate tiki drinks elsewhere. I'm talking the type where fire is evolved or fancy garnishes. Overall: Clear Lake surprisingly has quite a few cool bars. This is one of them.

There was very little…read more"tiki" about the place other than the drink menu and the "hut" over the bar -- certainly not the music, which was pretty typical modern, and overall I just had the impression of a dingy bar. We tried a couple of drinks, and they were fine, and the bartender was patient and helpful. Perhaps it gets more interesting when it gets busier later at night, and sitting on the patio might be nice when the weather is cooler. This is just not what we're looking for in a cocktail bar, but YMMV..

When we arrived, we seated ourselves outside, where there was only one other group present. Despite the patio being very small and the waitress coming in and out several times, we were never acknowledged or approached. After waiting for some time, I went inside and spoke with the owner, Adolf. He came out to our table and briefly discussed menu options with us. I asked specifically about the fish and chips, as we were told some dishes were no longer available due to an earlier rush. He said he would go check on that for me--but he never returned. Fifteen minutes later, we still had not received any service. When the waitress came back onto the patio again, I called her over and asked when we might be helped. She told me she "did not see us there," which I found difficult to believe given the size of the patio. After that interaction, she did not return to take our order. I went back inside and spoke with the owner again, this time clearly frustrated. He looked me directly in the eyes, raised both hands, and said, "You can calm down now." He repeated it in a tone that felt condescending and dismissive. I responded, "Thank you for giving me permission to calm down," and at that point, I turned around, walked out, and left with my friend to dine elsewhere. I cannot comment on the quality of the food because we were never served. I can comment on the service, which was extremely poor. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the service a zero. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to The Velvet Quarter.
