The wife and I visited Reid's Apothecary for our 46th wedding anniversary which is a cute little restaurant in downtown Brunswick. Because the restaurant is downtown there is plenty of free street parking spaces right outside the door. There is a bar, with bar seating, The other seating consisted of normal table with hard back chairs, and couches that ran down the side of the wall with tables, and hard back chairs on the other side. Overall, the service was adequate, not good, and certainly not great, but good enough not to stop us from enjoying our night out. I started with what was supposed to be a cup of Tomato Bisque but received and paid for a bowl. Somewhat my fault for not realizing that my serving and what I paid for was large and more expensive than the cup I ordered. With that said, I thought the flavor of the bisque served with, Garlic Buttered Crostini, and grated Smoked Gouda was outstanding. The temperature could have been a bit warmer, but again the flavor was sport on. The wife and I split a very large bowl of PEI Mussels. The Mussels were served in a white wine broth with Shallots, Garlic, Roasted Tomatoes, and Bacon. Honestly, I could and did finish the broth off as a soup. There were quite a few Mussels that did not open, but the bowl was so large, we wouldn't have eaten them anyway. The wife's main dish was the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, with peach and bacon risotto, and fresh Spinach. The dish was finished with an amazing Bourbon Peach Brown Butter Reduction. The scallops were large, the Risotto was great, but the brown butter reduction was the absolute star of the dish. For my main dish I had the Curried Lamb Lollipops, served over Cilantro Basmati Rice, and roasted Tomatoes with an excellent curry sauce. The chops were of good size and cooked to perfection. And please don't even get me started on the fired Garlic Butter Paratha which is some of the best bread I have ever had. My mistake was ordering a side of the Peach and Bacon Risotto similar to what was served with the scallop dish. Without the Bourbon Peach Brown Butter Reduction however, the risotto ate a little dry and had little to no peach flavor. I finished my meal with a bourbon , Mascarpone, bread pudding, which was amazing. The dish was loaded with bourbon which both my wife and I agreed was not completely cooked off. Great dish to finish an outstanding meal. Even with a few minor missteps, the overall flavor of the dishes were so good, I still must give it an overall 5. read more

We've been to Reid's Apothecary a number of times and never are disappointed. We love the date night special on Wednesday and it is definitely one of our favorite places to visit. This time we sat at the bar and ordered a couple drinks. My wife ordered a HH Mai Thai and I ordered an old-fashioned. The old-fashioned are always good and most of the time they'll pour them on a round rock. This time I got a round rock on the third drink. We sampled a couple new things on the happy hour menu. My wife ordered the girl dinner and I ordered the Smashburger. We started with an order of mussels which came out hot and fresh. A smaller portion than I remembered but nice enough. We heard that the original chef is back and I could definitely tell that the mussels were a different style. In the past, the mussels were always very good, however, more of a tomato base but this time they were more of a white wine traditional flavor. They were excellent. I loved the mussels and would definitely order again. The lady dinner came with a salad and french fries with an espresso martini. For $20. The Smashburger was $12. It was delicious and featured a bacon jam, which was really tasty. Bacon flavor in every bite. Amazing. There is a double Smashburger on the actual menu with fries for $18 but I chose to do the happy hour single smash burger. Again, we were very pleased as always, and stuck around for a couple more drinks. I love the old-fashioned here and recommend to my friends all the time. It's definitely a place to go in Brunswick. Came in for Valentines' Day and was pleasantly surprised. Normally I don't expect good service on holidays solely because the kitchen and staff are swamped but that wasn't an issue during our visit. The food was pretty good. Not quite worth the price, but I honestly don't ever think expensive food is worth it. Haha good if you want a bougie place to spend a lot. Seafood was fresh. Mussels were tasty! The steak and mashed potatoes were pretty amazingly seasoned. Brussel sprouts were a bit overly salty. For as much as this place is hailed online as "gluten free" there was a very sparse GF menu to select from. Staff were pretty knowledgeable about it though and offered plenty of helpful tips. The restaurant was a bit cold with people going in and out, but it's also unusually cold these days. I stopped in here just for some drinks while in town. I had an espresso martini and a chocolate old fashioned at the bar, really enjoyed them both, especially the old fashioned. No issues here with the service, the bartender was attentive and super nice. At the time of evening I went, it was a more intimate atmosphere with lower lights. The speakeasy side had a fun live band so I ended up going over there to check it out. That side has another bar and more casual seating. Visually the restaurant was appealing. Service was adequate and friendly. We ordered chicken and waffles. The chicken was good and tender and fried well with a tasty crust however, the waffle was the downfall. It was inedible. I've had better frozen waffles. Waffles were hard to cut. My wife and I talked about it and she thought maybe they had used the wrong flour or messed up the recipe somehow without knowing it. They they had the same appearance as a frozen waffle. A picture online showed a Belgian waffle. These were flat, dense, and certainly not cooked with a deeper Belgian waffle iron grid. The hot honey sauce at $2 extra seemed like just Texas Pete hot sauce. There was no honey in it at all. All in all we were disappointed and couldn't eat the waffles. This is our one and only time so perhaps it wasn't the normal experience for everyone, but it's what we had. read more

Came for brunch at 2:00. Food was excellent, service was crummy. I know I raved about the service before, but this time, our food was served and there was no server in the dining room for the entire 50 minutes of our meal. I wanted salt for the fried potatoes, there was none on the tables, and there was nobody to ask, so mr potatoes went uneaten. I did taste one and the texture was good, but I don't like ketchup and needed a bit of salt. I love the cute little mini fryer basket they're served in. My husband had the chicken and waffles. The waffle wasn't Belgian, but it was tasty. The breaded chicken breast was very good and the chicken wasn't too dry. I was a little disappointed in the duck confit. A little more hollandaise would have been nice. It was only $16, so I didn't expect much duck, but it just wasn't enough to stand up to the overwhelming biscuit flavor. If anyone from the restaurant sees this, I beg you to raise the price to $20 and give us a little more duck! We still love this place. read more

What a great spot right in downtown Brunswick with lovely menu and amazing cocktails. Sunday Supper is a fantastic deal - choice of 3 proteins (beef teriyaki, chicken piccata, or fried shrimp) and 3 sides (or double up on 2), plus choice of dessert (sponge cake, brownie, ice cream) for just $18. They also offer 4 staple menu items and prime rib dinner. Miss Sam took great care of us and ensured we had everything we wanted - all the dips, next round of drinks, etc. Reid's and their speakeasy, The Study, holds a special place in our hearts because we held our wedding after party in The Study. Update 4/10/2025 This restaurant continues to be my favorite in the historic downtown Brunswick area. Everything about this place represents high quality food, service and atmosphere. I dined here with my daughter and son-in-law. Our server Edward provided excellent personalized service. He was super attentive and gave great recommendations. Based upon Edward's recommendation, we started by sharing the Arancini appetizer. I ordered the Tomato Bisque soup with smoked gouda cheese and garlic buttered crostini followed by Reid's Burger. The signature burger comes with House Pimento Cheese, Bacon, and Garlic Aioli on a Brioche Bun. It comes with House Cut Fries but I substituted the side for Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. At the end of the meal, we shared the warm Banana Bread Pudding with vanilla ice cream. It was most definitely a decadently delicious dessert. This is an update. We have been to Reid's three other times and had been very happy with the food and service although the noise level has always bothered us. Today we went for lunch. When the foursome beside us, who arrived after us, received their food, our waitress stopped by to say our food was coming up next. We then watched as food was brought out to a table that had been seated at least 15 minutes after us. We finally got our food about 30 to 35 minutes after we ordered it. Our water glasses which were over 75% empty were finally filled when the check was brought to the table. We had to ask for a pen to fill out the credit card slip. Btw- there is a charge for using a credit card although I did not see a notice on that anywhere. Hopefully I just missed it. The noise level was insane. We had to ask the waitress to repeat herself as we literally could not hear her. The noise really ruined our time as we had trouble hearing each other talk. Too bad as the food was very good. I had the crab sandwich and my husband had the shrimp and grits. He thought the shrimp and grits were very flavorful but for $23 he expected a bit more- maybe even just some more grits. The manager did give us a 10% discount for the wait however until the noise level is fixed we will not be returning. read more

I can't. Literally heartbroken and according to my husband, "we are never, ever coming back". I've waited for a year to come here and to all my friends, why did you lie to me?! My husband has vowed to never mention Reid's to anyone he knows. We made reservations for 1:30 on a Saturday and arrived approximately 15 minutes early. We were seated by the sweet hostess and pleased to see the brunch menu. She brought us water and when the waiter had not spoken with us, she reminded him we were seated. As the crowd increased, the music was turned up. It got extremely loud. This must be fairly common since I've read other complaints pertaining to the noise level. I ordered the bottomless mimosas and my husband opted for water. We placed our food order and asked for everything to be brought at the same time. The total time for our visit was approximately two hours with most of the time spent waiting for food. Part of our order was brought by a different waiter. The avocado toast was good, but looked completely different from pictures I had seen previously. My husband's "wedge (Caesar, pickled)" salad was half a head of lettuce coated in dressing. Zero pickled anything, brown and wilted on the outside, and bitter in the middle. He said the dressing made it edible after working around the brown lettuce. The rest of our order was brought by yet another employee. I got the duck confit benedict and my husband had the ribeye with eggs. I had to send mine back when I saw the eggs were way overdone and hard. Both of our potato sides were riddled with tiny, burnt pieces and huge potato chunks. The steak was so thin it would have been impossible to cook it anything other than well done. I was out of orange juice and had to wave down a random waitress. My husband's water was not refilled until we were finished and had the bill. We saw our waiter when receiving the second benedict and refilling the water once. The hostess asked how our meal was and we simply said "not very good". She was so kind I didn't have the heart to say much else. $80+ for brunch is fine when it's an $80 brunch experience. This was absolutely not. Overall, I have had worse food and service but definitely not with the high expectations and even higher price. Disclaimer: If management leaves a comment on this please know, your time would be better spent reviewing what the past experiences were and comparing to current ones. Ask yourself why food looks completely different and service has gone downhill. Correct it and please let me know when you do then we would love to try again for a dinner service. read more

The restaurant experience was a 5 star experience. Went with friends and had cocktails, appetizers & entrees. Our server was very sweet & patient with us as we were also going to The Study after our dinner and slowly had our meal. We started with the Tomato Bisque & Arancini both were fantastic. For the entrees we had the Low County Bouillabaisse, Shrimp & Grits, salad with blackened shrimp & Arrabbiata Gnocchi. The Low Country Bouillabaisse was awesome with shrimp, mussels, crab with a nice filet of fish placed on top of a bowl of pasta with the red sauce. The Shrimp & Grits was a big serving and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The Gnocchi as well as the salad with shrimp were ample and excellent too. The ambience is what I would call industrial. But, nicely lighted, good spacing between tables and moderate in reference to sound. If just going for a cocktail the bar area seats around 10 people and seems welcoming. After our meal we had the password for The Study which was set up nicely with soft lighting. There was a band called Hot Banana Coffee who were very good. They played 70's to current rock songs. We ordered a couple of Ole' Fashions & Gin & Tonic. Unfortunately, the Ole' Fashion was like a shot of Bulliet Bourbon with water & a twist of orange. No depth of flavor. And the Gin & Tonic was a weak pour. So, that is why the rating for the whole experience is 4 stars. Definitely will be back for a dinner but probably will pass on going to The Study! We were vacationing on Jekyll and were tired of the food on offer on the island. Our server was very welcoming and the place had a good vibe, where locals seemed to be having a relaxed time connecting with each other. When we came on a Sunday night we learned that they offer a Sunday dinner plate. This sounded perfect and comforting to us, and it ended up feeling like nourishing home cooking. The night we visited you could choose one of three mains, and then choose three sides from a long list of sides. I got beef tips, green beans, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. The plate came with a big buttery biscuit, and then it was followed with a little dessert. It was just what we needed after several days of rich food when traveling. And, it was an awesome price! We did not have a reservation but luck was on our side that a three seater couch was open. The food was so good and I can not stress that enough. It was seasoned to perfection and I personally got the burger and it was cooked just as I specified and again the seasoning and sauce just brought it all together. My best friend got the chicken with collard greens and it was awesome. Another perfectly cooked dish that is well seasoned and the flavor profile just really came together. We ordered a mocktail and that also did not disappoint. The service was great and the server made some recommendations for food options which was very helpful. The food was brought out pretty fast and it was piping hot. We enjoyed our meals and then came the check. I purchased two gift cards last night and usually gift cards are pretty straight forward. Since they were digital they would just need to be scanned. The server tried figuring it out and after just a few short minutes told me that he had no luck and it wasn't working. I'm visiting so being out that money in gift cards is not an option. I asked him to please try again and I pulled up the receipt and just whatever helpful information about the gift cards I had. He ended up getting the owner on the phone and for forty five minutes the three of us stood there awkwardly by the bar. They eventually figured it out which I'm grateful for because that meant not being out that money. However there was no apology, no recognition of the time we were standing there. I did feel bad because I know the server had other tables on top of dealing with figuring out the gift card fiasco. It just felt like it was a huge inconvenience for the restaurant and sure it was but I had to remind myself that they already got my money because I bought the gift cards. I'm not a fan of feeling like that so it did put a damper on an otherwise nice outing with friends. I still have another gift card to use and the server reassured me that the issue has been resolved. I would absolutely return just for the food alone. That certainly carried the whole experience and I would still absolutely recommend this establishment. I moved to Jekyll Island from Atlanta earlier this year while living at the beach is amazing the restaurants leave a bit to be desired in unique food and atmosphere, so I continue my search. My parents were in town for Thanksgiving and on Friday night wanted to go to dinner. They sent me 3 places they wanted to try and I countered with Reid's. They were reading the menu for days, the problem being too many things they wanted to try! My mom has a gluten intolerance and my dad is a picky eater, but both were so excited that they couldn't decide as everything sounded so good (there are definitely worst problems). We had an early reservation of 5:30. As it was early there wasn't a lot of people there YET but I had a feeling it would fill up because of the tree lightning later that night down the street. So we were promptly taken to our corner table faced the front windows and a straight shot across to the river and an amazing sunset..... that alone would have made this place worth it. BUT it hey kept the original charm of the old historic building while making updates for a funky restaurant. By the time we left the place was PACKED and rightfully so. Their website says to make a reservation and I agree (although the bar looked like fun to sit at too!) When we sat down we were informed that the menu had just been updated for fall and that caused everyone to rethink what they wanted (because everything sounded so good)! Our waitress was very helpful I going over the changes and telling us why something tasted really good. My dad got the gnocchi with shrimp and was pretty quiet as he sat there just enjoying his food and sunset (he is never quiet). My mom got the short ribs and could have cut into them with a spoon. I tried her risotto which was honey goat cheese risotto with a butternut squash reduction. There is no way she was sharing the short ribs (which is fine as I rarely eat red meat) but I would have just ordered her risotto and sat there and eaten that! I ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops with an asparagus risotto. The risotto was really good (but my mom's was better at first). But once I had a fork full of the risotto with a bite of scallop and cranberry reduction it was like a perfect symphony in my mouth! Now Reid's is also known for their cocktails and these days I don't usually have a cocktail BUT the drink menu was so fun I had to get one (sadly if forgot the name but it was Berrie something) and was sweet and tart and OMG complimented my meal perfectly. My parents always get rum and coke, which how can you mess that up, but said OMG is is the best one ever and were pretty sure it was the coke and wondered it they made their own (no idea if they did but they were so happy who cares!) We all went home with leftovers because it was too good to waste. My parents are coming back in 2 weeks to dog sit while I go on a work trip. They were already planning on going back and what they would try next (these are people who once they try something they like never order anything different but they WANT to explore this menu!). I am going to run over and get them a gift card for a thank you for dog sitting so they can have another great night out! Lastly, our bill..... I was shocked when I got it. It was so LOW a meal of that quality with 4 cocktails would have cost double the price in Atlanta. And while I'm some people will say the prices in the dinner menu are high, my response is yes compared to generic foo you can get somewhere else over on my island the cost is higher BUT you can tell this food was made fresh with fresh ingredients and worth a few extra $! Bottom line the food and atmosphere are amazing and this is the kind of place I wish there was more of because time and effort was put into the menu, the food prep and even the staff seemed happy to be there. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. My boyfriend & I stumbled upon this restaurant as we were just in Brunswick for the day exploring around. It was Sunday afternoon so most places were closed. A local on the street recommended this place to us... I am so glad we took their advice! Every. Single. Thing. On. My. Plate. Was. Delicious. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The green beans had the perfect amount of butter, seasoning, and had a great texture. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The Mac n cheese was creamy, warm, and super cheesy and delightful. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful. An elegant Southern Charm with various shades of greens & browns. We arrived at happy hour around 4, and were able to see the sun set inside the restaurant, which pointed out every detail of the restaurant in the golden light. Absolutely stunning. ($5 for a house wine or beer for happy hour) The wait staff had on charming uniforms that fit the classy southern style of the restaurant. I've been here twice now, both times for brunch. The food is stellar. First visit, I had the shrimp and grits, and the grits, when combined with the Creole cream sauce, are the best grits I've had so far in the Brunswick area. Second trip, I tried the biscuits and gravy, which were fantastic, as well. For cocktails, I can't get enough of the Corpse Reviver. Despite not having reservations, we were able to get seated quickly during both visits. Service was great the first time, though a bit slow--but still friendly--the second time (I would add that during that second trip, there was a private party taking place in the back room which may have contributed to the slower service). Great ambiance and nice view of Newcastle Street, especially if you'e seated in one of the window seats. We were in town and after seeing good scores decided to give Reid's a try. Although we didn't have a reservation, we arrived ahead of the dinner hour and were seated immediately. The decor is warm and the vibe is relaxed. Our server was terrific-sharing details about the daily special and answering our questions about the menu. We selected two cocktails which were expertly made and beautifully presented. For dinner we enjoyed salmon salad two ways - one with a delicious bacon jam on a house salad base, the other as a caesar with chargrilled romaine topped with grilled salmon. The flavors were delicious and the portions were perfect. We scarfed the dinner down without pausing for pictures but I did manage to get a snap of the drinks and our delicious brownie dessert. The brownie was moist and tasty. Reid's Apothecary lived up to its name bringing a healing and delightful experience. It's not fussy nor pretentious but definitely elevated dining. read more

You will not believe what I experienced at this establishment. I had the most difficult time here....difficulty trying to figure out what to eat because everything on the brunch/lunch menu sounded amazing. From the moment we walked in the door on a Sunday for brunch it was nothing but greetings and smiles. A super friendly, delightful and inviting restaurant. Our server was incredible, a very warm, friendly, caring young lady who offered some excellent dish suggestions. (Im horrible with names but I think she said Carli). She even went above n beyond to help us find a particular item at another establishment. This young lady is a gem. The food: nothing short of great tasting, well cooked and well seasoned food. We ordered "Reid's burger x3 and Korean Fried chicken sandwich." The burgers were cooked as ordered and served with home fries...sounds like a simple burger but wow was this flavorful, that pimento cheese was on point. It was one of those burgers where you didn't need to add anything else to it, no salt no pepper no ketchup. The Korean fried chicken was juicy inside and crispy outside. Oh and that gochujang and Japanese mayo sauce for the chicken was so good. The drinks: bottomless mimosas, which you pour yourself and don't have to wait for someone to come and refill your glass. (The champagne bottle sitting in an ice bucket right on your table). Bourbon on the rocks, nice n smooth. I have to say this place was all around pretty awesome. You must give this place a try. I will definitely revisit when back in St. Simons and I will absolutely be recommending. read more
