We had such a great experience at Halyards as usual. We come for family dinners. From the moment we walked in, the service was attentive without being overbearing, everyone was friendly and welcoming, which really set the tone for the night. The food? Incredible. Every single dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The seafood was a standout, cooked perfectly. We had room for dessert! And it was yummy and beautifully plated. Highly recommend if you're on St. Simons Island and looking for consistently excellent food, top-notch service, and a relaxed, coastal vibe. We'll definitely be back.

Went here for my friends 23rd birthday as a party of 7, all I can say is wow. The staff made our experience one of a kind and nothing short of amazing. We loved our server, Jason. He was so fun, helpful and friendly; he was 10/10 AMAZING!!! The food was really good, loved the calamari and fried pickle appetizer. I got the cioppino which was a nice tomato broth seafood dish, very good. Also the crème brûlée was one of the best i've had in a while, and paired with an affogato was perfection. Inside was nice, people dressed in business casual mainly. I would definitely highly recommend Halyards, even if it's just for Jason!

I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so I was eager to try it. First the inside is quite nice and while upscale doesn't overdo it. Tables are close and hearing other people's conversations was a bit annoying. Service was excellent. I ordered the crab soup and it was delicious- you could also tell that there was crab in it ( at some places you wonder). My husband had the wedge salad and according to him it was delicious and he loved the deviled egg on top. It was also very filling which is why I went with the soup. I ordered the flounder on a bed of couscous and veggies with a Peruvian pepper sauce. Fish was perfectly cooked and I really enjoyed it however I did wish there was more of the sauce as it needed it. The yellow fin tuna my husband ordered was perfectly seared and served with diced avocado and yucca fries?- not exactly positive if they were fries or not-but he said they were good. Tuna - he let me have a bite- was cooked perfectly and I loved the diced avocado and the sauce. My husband wanted a bit more sauce and while he thoroughly enjoyed it- he thought it was overpriced compared to other places. It is not my favorite place in Saint Simon's but it is very good and I know I will be returning.

Halyards is conveniently located across the street from the St. Simmons cinema making it a perfect location for a date night. The dining area offers an upscale atmosphere with a spacious dining room and separate bar area. Because of its size, the restaurant can get a bit noisy. The menu changes frequently and offers an array of seafood and meat options although no main dish options for vegetarian guests. Online menu may not be representative of actual offerings at the time of your visit. Our biggest disappointment with Halyards was the level of service and inaccuracy of dish description. With respect to the wait staff, despite their assertion of being well-versed in the menu, we found our waiter to lack familiarity with dish ingredients, which can be problematic for individuals, such as I, with food allergies. Additionally, the descriptions noted on the menu were not representative of what was actually served to us. With that being said, our dishes were both prepared to our liking. For this visit, we opted for the flounder, blakes mushrooms, and the arugula salad. The chèvre was missing from the arugula salad and the mushrooms were served without the egg and bacon as noted on the menu. The flounder was perfectly cooked and the lemon sauce was perfectly balanced to brighten the dish. With that being said, we enjoyed our meal and would return. Be sure to make reservations as the dining room fills up most weekends

We had a five star, excellent dinner here. Reservations are a must. We started with a shared appetizer of roasted oysters. A half dozen with an anchovy garlic butter with bread crumbs. I got their shrimp and grits. This was the best version I've ever had. There were a lot of sizable local shrimp along with andouille sausage on top of perfectly cooked grits. The very creamy sauce over it all was delicious. Mmmm mmm good. My husband had the southern fried chicken. The portion was large enough for three people! The chicken was cooked through and was lightly seasoned and coated in a light batter. It was served over pimento cheese grits, fried green tomatoes and spinach. He absolutely loved it. Service was commensurate with the upscale locale. The food sublime. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

Halyards made for a wonderful date night dinner during our April visit for a local wedding. The ambience and atmosphere is a bit upscale, and the service certainly reflects so. We found our server Gina to be extremely respectful, helpful, and courteous. We indulged quite a bit, enjoying espresso martinis, margaritas, and whiskey sours. The espresso martinis were delicious and strong, while the other beverages offered a nice twist so we didn't over caffeinate. The other beverages didn't stand out quite as much as the espresso martinis, but were still really good. The roasted oysters were delightful, and weren't too big in size in the batch/season we received. There was loads of flavor with the garlic and butter. We also ordered the crab bisque without hesitation which was creamy and full of flavor. We split the teriyaki glazed salmon belly which was a special. Don't miss out on this if it is offered! The salmon just absolutely melts away in your mouth with a nice touch of teriyaki. Finally, how we could not get creme brulee to wrap things up. It's my wife's favorite and did not let us down! If you're looking for a date night in the local St. Simons area, Halyards is your spot.

We sat at the bar but learned the Tuesday special was a flight of three bartender choice wines 2 oz pours for $15. Evidently the Wine tasting thing was not current. We've seen many restaurants don't update their web site so it's always a gamble when you show up. Not sure if it was an open table thing or the restaurant. Either way we enjoy wine so my wife ordered a red flight and I ordered a $6 happy hour Italian Pinot Noir. The Pinot was fine and decent pour and my wife sampled the flight. One of the wines was a little off and we both thought it may have soured. She mentioned it to the bartender and he shrugged it off and said it wasn't an old bottle. Mentioned it again and no big deal. Might have been nice to at least offer something else. I'd recommend ordering a glass of what you like rather than waste the $15. For dinner I wanted to try the seared pork ribeye but they were out of stock so I settled for the short rib sandwich on ciabatta bread. My wife ordered the beet and goat cheese salad which she enjoyed and thought was fine. The short rib sandwich was tasty enough but the bread was soft like it came out of a plastic bag. I was hoping for a better quality bread which is important for a sandwich. It wasn't something I would order again. Overall it's a really quaint place with isles of olive oil and items to purchase but the experience was a 2.0 and the food average 3.0 at best. I really expected a bit more especially from the look and feel of the place. Not sure I could get around to wanting to go back to try anything else on the menu. Bartender was nice but overall just not a good experience after a long day of work. I feel bad to leave an unsatisfactory score but I upped my 2.0 to 3.0 as ratings are important and it's probably at least a 3.0.

First I have to give a shout out to our waiter Devon. He managed to list all the specials slow enough that I was able to keep track and remember them. Usually I give up about half way through. Anyway, his service was also excellent. I ordered the duck which I have had there before and oh my goodness it was even better. The outside skin was grilled perfectly and had a nice bite to it. My husband had the pork steak schnitzel. He shared one little piece with me and it literally melted in your mouth. I told him next time I was getting it - it was that good. So big decision next time I go back as I loved loved loved the duck. We typically don't order dessert but hey it was Valentine's Day.
