If I could only recommend one restaurant on St. Simon's, it would be Fiddler's. This place has it all. Stellar cocktails, friendly service, great views, modern design aesthetic, and incredible food. My only gripe is that they do not take reservations, though even on a Friday night, I've been able to get seated within 20-30 minutes, and you can always grab a drink from the bar and hang out on the lawn while you wait. This most recent visit, I started with the seafood chowder, one of my favorite soups on the island. Creamy, hearty, with plenty of fish, shrimp, crab, and potatoes. Shared a crabcake with my girlfriend--another solid choice, with plenty of crab, not too heavy on the filling, and with a lovely remoulade. For mains, we both had the grilled redfish, a baked potato for me, and mixed veggies for her. Perfectly cooked pieces of fish with a nice crust on the outside while still being moist and tender. Dessert this time was the chocolate pie, which was quite nice, not being too heavy nor excessively sweet. Did I mention the cocktails? I'm a big fan of the smokey mango Fiddlerita (a mezcal take on the classic marg), and the saladito a close second (again, mezcal, but with a little honey and cayenne). The girlfriend enjoys the basil smash (hold the simple syrup, please). Previously, we've tried the artichoke dip, which is also fantastic, shrimp and grits (solid, but Reid's does it better), blackened tripletail over creamy leek sauce (a special, and special indeed), and the key lime pie (excellent). Atmosphere very cool. Staff very attentive. Wife got Shrimp basket with Mac n cheese. Mac n cheese better than my grandma's apparently! Tea Great. Fish and chips started off good but didnt stick to the fish. 2nd piece found half undercooked yet coating didnt stick. Fish wouldn't flake apart. Fish had to be cut with knife so didnt finish it. UPDATE. Several hours later, bad diarrhea! Smelled like poorly cooked attempt at British Cod. Fumigated the house with "natural gas". Wife yelled at me. Got sprayed physically with bathroom spray. A relatively new player on the scene. Very good. My (5 miles east of ) Brunswick stew was outstanding. A meal in and of itself. Reminds me of the Brunswick Stew my mother in law used to make. My son got fantastic crab cake patties. And my wife had the scallop bowl. Plus the calamari served with a spicy asian duck sauce are just wonderful. The best meal we had in St. Simons. The service was amazing and the food came out promptly. They had several delicious beers on tap. The buffalo shrimp was a great starter. Get the blue cheese dip. The redfish was incredible. It was a thick filet blackened and cooked to perfection. The grits and greens nicely complemented the filet. It was a bit hot to eat outside. Great service, extremely attentive even when the place was absolutely packed right at open, amazing portions and the food was top notch. The crab cakes were excellent, hush puppies, probably could make a meal on those alone. We ordered a bowl of seafood chowder and it was gigantic and full of flavor. I had the shrimp and scallop bowl and I could've eaten it twice. We went to three different seafood restaurants including Fiddlers while in St Simon's and next time I'll just go to Fiddlers three times instead of going anywhere else. The service, and location were great. The interior is nice and the staff seem to be on top of everything which is great. I don't know what other people who review this place know about good food or if they have taste buds at all. Several items came out look warm or almost cold which is crazy since they didn't come out at the same time. Also, you should never garnish dishes with things that don't go with the food. Several dishes were garnished with things that didn't make sense and also gave awkward tastes to the item. The place has huge potential, but I would rather have eaten at a mediocre chain restaurant, because my food would probably taste better. We even left and went to another restaurant afterward to eat something better because we didnt finish any of our four items we ordered. We also got dessert somewhere else. I feel bad for the restaurant because it has huge potential but they are missing out on what could be because of not so good food. read more

Probably my second review ever. I was in the bar and restaurant business for years, and now open them for others. First of all, on a positive note, the food and dinner server were good. My issue is with our bartender. There was an hour wait for a table, so our group of 5 sat at the bar for a drink. Two ordered off the drink menu ($14 each) and another ordered a margarita. The bartender named a few brands of tequila and one was chosen. There was no mention of any premium charge. When the bill came, the drink cost $17, and an additional $5 for a "tall". $22 for an average margarita with sour mix is excessive. I think this place knows they cater to tourists and rip them off whenever possible. Then, to make it worse, without any comment, add 3% surcharge for a credit card. $53 for three mid drinks. Not going back. Way too many other places in SSI. K read more

A nice place on the marsh away from the pier area. The building is beautiful both inside and outside. There is seating on the porch and down by the marsh there are fire pits and seating. Parking next to the building, but I noticed when I left it was full. I had shrimp and grits and it was delicious. The shrimp were a good size and the sauce was outstanding. The key lime pie was recommended by several friends so I had to indulge. Wow, the size, presentation and taste was excellent! Update from previous times at Fiddlers. It was easy to walk in on a Thursday and grab a seat at the bar or a table. The staff was attentive and decent menu. We were trying to get there for a happy hour specials that majority of places have. Not Fiddlers, not ever the bartender said. Kind of a let down because people told us there was a good happy hour visit Fiddlers. Something the owners should consider. The staff went over the specials , only one for dinner. The rest of the menu was food inside a bowl or basket and sea food. The location has limited parking down a narrow road. The open porch is outstanding with a view of the marsh. read more

Went with a group for a luncheon. Always a comfortable place to go with Island atmosphere and marsh views. Wonderful young waitress, wish I'd gotten her name. I started out with a lemon drop martini which was delicious...yes, this was a celebration reunion. Then as I didn't really want a huge serving, I ordered the buffalo shrimp app and fried green tomatoes. Both were delicious and not usual. Lightly fried shrimp I finished wishing I had more and I took half of the fried green tomatoes home to share with hubby, they were even better cooled down!!! Possibly the worst experience of customer service ever. Showed up at 5:15 for dinner with 8 people and two high chairs. 1 hour and 45 minute expectation set. We sat at 8:15. Shame on us for waiting for average food and suspect service and a condensing host. There are other alternatives with similar quality food. The atmosphere is not worth the wait. Even on a holiday weekend, they set the bar low and did not accommodate with any apology or even a a complimentary appetizer. We really liked this place. We came by in the afternoon for an early dinner and some cocktails and sat on the deck. Although the windows are covered with clear plastic due to the season the view over the marshes is lovely. Our server told us she was new but she did a great job, and patiently answered our many questions. I had the seasonal salmon salad and it was delicious. The salmon was fresh and flavorful and was expertly cooked. My friend had the fish and chips. It was a huge plate of food and she loved it. She let me try her fries and they were yummy (I am very picky about fries). Our cocktails (bloody mary, old fashioned) were well-made, quite large, and strong. The hubs and I went for a dinner date around 7:30 on a Friday. Let me tell ya it's super busy! My first time there so if you don't know be prepared to wait for a table. It is a bit nicer of a dinner place and most people were in either business casual, dresses, golf attire, or date night clothes. They do have a great bar area vibe for date night so we decided to grab a drink and wait it out to see the bar had some seats free up. Eventually it did, probably about 30 min wait. Bar service was nice and got us drinks pretty quick. We ordered and shared a steak and sides. We did unfortunately had to send the steak back bc it was overcooked but another one came out super quick and also brought me all new sides. If you love dessert, you have to try the key lime- it's amazing!! I would love to go back and sit outside and enjoy the view on our next visit. read more

We did have to wait over an hour (on a Wednesday??) for a table for 3, BUT we were outside watching the EGRET near on top of the cell phone tower. Omg. Also, their key like pie is to die for. Went to Fiddlers for a friends birthday (party of 7) on a saturday night, and they were packed. We waited about an hour & 15 min which is what we were quoted; grabbed drinks at the bar while we waiting outside. Once we sat we were quickly greeted by our sweet server Skylar, so helpful and friendly, we loved her. Buffalo shrimp app was delicious! I got to redfish étouffée, recommended by skylar and WOW! So delicious, everyone at the table was constantly stealing bites of it. It had so much flavor, i'm still thinking about it. Guava margarita was also a fan favorite at the table. The manager Reese was also so lively and generous, made sure we were well taken care of!
