What is there not to like about the porch? We have been back several times each time getting something different on the menu and we have not been disappointed! The fried chicken of course is scrumptious! However, grilled chicken sandwich sandwiches are good. You can bring your pet and sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather or on the porch if it starts to rain! You go into order your food they give you a number and then the servers bring it out to you. The wait time is not long at all and you can enjoy all of the fun people there enjoying themselves also it's an experience. Only St Simons could have we've been several times and will continue to go and also take Friends. read more

The staff were super friendly. Unlimited refills in soft drinks! The prices overall were kind of high, but I get everybody's got a business to run. Very cool that the place was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Nice to have a menu that is clearly labeled gluten free. The place was bustling for a weekday! This food was extremely overhyped. I ordered fried shrimp, fries, and mac and cheese. The shrimp was the best part. The fries were just okay (needed salt) and the mac and cheese was inedible and tasted like nothing but noodles and heavy cream. Nothing had flavor. We had spiked arnold palmer which was delicious, but for the sticky tables and long lines it wasnt delicious enough to make me come back. read more

We ordered the 12 tenders + 2 quarts of sides family meal. The sides we chose were macaroni and cheese, and tater tots. The meal came with a gallon of sweet tea! For the price you really cannot beat it. My family of 5 had leftovers and were so satisfied with the food! The portions are generous and the food is delightful. We would absolutely come back again! The atmosphere is fun with lawn games available outside and the decor is warm and inviting. Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient! Thank you!!! read more

Tbh it's okay. It's all fried food but good. We had the catfish, bbq baked beans, pimento cheese grits and queso tots. The tots are frozen so that's a miss. The catfish is tasty but nothing stood out. Outside is nice with cornhole and games with picnic tables read more

Who doesn't want fried chicken!! Actually it was the pimento cheese grits that sold me, loved it! My little white (2 pc white meat chicken) w two sides was so tasty. The fried chicken was crispy and seasoned just right. The magical cabbage (ok, coleslaw) was out of this world. This is from a non-coleslaw eater. I enjoyed the vinaigrette dressing in the cabbage. It's counter service and the staff was as friendly as can be. It's okay. Falls into the "place to take your family for mediocre seafood" and "place where you have to go up to the counter every time you want something like a beer." The rose slushie was excellent, however! Kudos on that. Ambiance is much like a barbecue place. Staff were helpful and pleasant enough but my son (20) indicated that one woman looked like she had no soul behind her eyes! Again, it was okay. read more

Just off Pier Village row, The Porch is a great beach shack two blocks from the water. Food: Fried chicken, coleslaw and pimento grits. The chicken was home style; the grits stoled the show. Entree 2: about a dozen fried shrimp, large and tasty; with zesty collards; and those excellent grits. Drinks: Dos Equis Amber and frose wine slushee. Very good! Service: excellent. You order at the counter and collect the drinks. The draught beer was foamy so the server asked me to return to top it off. A first. Ambiance: spacious outdoors under a big oak with games for the kids (old ones, too). Tight but right inside dining with a nice porch option, too. Damage: $47.50 before tax and tip. Water was 25 cents per cup. Fries was $9; beer, $6.50. Together that cost them a star, especially for icy wine? A solid dining choice but skip the booze. read more

What a great place to take your family. You order at the front, and then they bring you your food at your table. My husband had the fried chicken novice style with Mac and cheese and baked beans. We got the 3 jumbo tenders. **be sure to check your heat** I got novice and my boyfriend got hot Nashville heat. All our sides were messed up so it took some time to fix those. I finally took a bite of my chicken and my eyes were watering. I confirmed two times that it was novice heat... it definitely wasn't. I couldn't eat mine so i brought it home, the next day, my boyfriend ate it and confirmed it was Nashville heat. There's no way to know as there's no stickers or anything- please learn from us and be a bit more bothersome if you think your heat level is wrong. read more

First trip to SSI. We played the role of tourists. We saw the DDD episode, had to try it. Traditional southern style cafe. Some picnic tables, rolls of paper towel. It wasn't too busy when we got there. Food took a while, but the signature sandwich got a thumbs up from our crew. read more

This might just not be the spot for me, but I really wasn't impressed. Tried the fried shrimp in both mild and Nashville hot, and neither of them impressed me that much. Maybe it would have been better as chicken, but if you offer something, I'm going to assume that it will be good. I didn't really like the flavor of either of the heats; it just didn't taste that good, but Nashville definitely had some heat to it. The sides also weren't that great. Tried the Brussels sprouts, which tasted okay but were too hard and needed to be cooked longer. The baked beans weren't my favorite; they were too sweet, and they really advertised the bacon, but the bacon was very soft because of how long it cooked, so it wasn't like the best bacon or worst advertising. The collard greens were probably the best part of the meal. It also wasn't that clean. Most of the tables on the closed-in porch were dirty with stuff all over the ground. Honestly, just wouldn't go back. There are lots of better places on the island to eat, and this just isn't worth the hype. read more

The food was picturesque. And who can complain about eating on a screened in porch on a beautiful day? Certainly not me. Our meal was comprised of tenders, corn, collards, and tots. The tenders (Nashville hot) -- were so hot it knocked my shoes AND my socks off. Had to go all the way home just to slap my momma. With that being said, all that spice and the flavor just wasn't there. Biting into the tenders was like biting into sand (similar flavor profile just add the heat of a thousand suns). Basically: Pretty tenders and no personality. The corn on the cob was solid --- could've used some tajin and lime juice. Collards had a nice tang to em' Overall the meal was good and we'd come back again. Although I hope when we return they imbue the tenders with more flavor! Buffalo dipped tenders could be wicked good. read more

This is my second time visiting Porch when visiting St. Simon's and whereas last time I was probably more of a 3.5 but I think a lot of it had to do with lines and the wait/struggle to get a table. Off-season it was an entirely different and great experience. Our food came out piping hot and immediate. Everything we ate was delicious and it was a great spot to go to with kids. Loved the chicken, maple beans, Mac and cheese, collards, pimento cheese grits, Brussels (very heavy with sweet and sauce so avoid if you think you are going healthy with this option), fries, and blackened shrimp. Again, everything was tasty. I'd come back, but again maybe not at peak timing. read more

Amazing chicken! The tenders were cooked to perfection. Super juicy and crispy. I got the Nashville hot but I believe I was given another flavor, this was barely spicy. The napalm looked TOO hot so did not try that 1. The Mac and chz was great, right in the middle of not too saucy and not too thick. Fries were pretty bad tbh, some came out warm and kinda soggy. They have a ton of other sides but I like to try the fries for a solid comparison to others. Probably would go back if I wanted tenders but has room for improvement . read more

Love the whole concept. Nashville Fried Spicy Chicken with the southern charm or sitting on the porch. The chicken is great, fried or roasted, but the sides are not to be missed as well. Try the Brussels sprouts and the corn. I had the grilled shrimp on my latest visit and enjoyed them as well. Their in-house made sauce was excellent. Y'all. It's good to come home. I've not been on this island since 2017 and this place was new to me. Hopping at 7p on a Sunday, but still we found a picnic table to eat at with the fam after ordering our food. Our kids each got waffles (with syrup!) and fries (the chicken is batter fried and wasn't my 6yo's fave but was excellent for us grownups). The adults split a grilled shrimp platter and Caesar salad (and each had Amber Abita beers--there were 6 drafts on tap) with pimento cheesy grits (omg) and flash Brussel sprouts (dear goodness). So excellent and I'll make sure to return next time I'm on the island. read more

History

Established in 2018.

Nashville hot chicken is said to have been invented by an angry wife who dumped a ton of cayenne into a flour bowl, dipped some chicken in it, then fried it for the wayward hubs to, shall we say, light a little fire under his you-know-what. Thing was, he liked it. Which goes to show that a) cheating is bad and b) hot chicken is delicious. Palmer and Mills spent over a year coming up with the magical combination of heat, spice, and southern sass you are about to enjoy. They tweaked batter, fiddled with frying techniques, and tussled over temperatures too many times to count. They tested the concoctions on hot chicken connoisseurs in Nashville, took notes, and kept at it until they reached what we believe is a perfect basket of bird (or fish!) to share with friends and family on the porch with a few cold ones. My only knock is no draft beer & they serve Pepsi products. Other than those 2 items, I will come back & try dinner time as I believe the vibe will have more energy. Whatever you get here, you have to try the hush puppies!! The best hush puppies I've ever had. They also give you a soap bath for your hands after which is a very nice touch, as your hands get really dirty from all the butter.
