*this is just a review for the bike shop* Brought my road bike here because other bike shops are weeks packed. Initially, I was just coming to get my front and rear derailleurs tuned (since my bike is pretty much brand new, just needed some adjustments) but I opted for the tune up package which includes derailleur adjustments, bike clean, etc. (might as well). When I got my bike back, I was already skeptical because they said they had to replace my cables (which were still new at this point), which added to the cost. I thought I'd test it for a quick ride in the parking lot before I left. Long and behold, my rear derailleur would not shift all the way and had a jumpy chain. I was very disappointed because I thought they would have the standards to run through each gear and make sure it works before handing it back to the customer. It seems like they rushed the job and didn't even check. Took it back into the store and they made some adjustments that made shifting work again (still some chain rub and chain jump, but it works). Also, bike clean was not thourough at all. There are still dirt spots scattered throughout the bike. Summary: if I want my bike to work quickly, I'll take it here. If I want my bike to work perfectly, i'd rather opt to take it to a legitimate bike shop (which I will in the future. Lesson learned). Love ya, REI but for my other recreation needs. Just went to REI on Wednesday to pick up some hiking boots (since it's one of the only things other than eating that I can do right now during this quarantine ). The process for curbside pickup was very easy and seamless. After you purchase online you'll receive a separate email letting you know that your order is ready (It took 1 day for me to receive the email). Curbside hours are 10am - 6pm. The email you receive explains how the transaction will happen. REI is helping keep us safe by minimizing contact for pick up. When you arrive you'll click on "I'm here!" and a team member will come out with your order. As they come out you'll raise your ID to the window and the employee will verify your order. It is placed on a sterilized cart and you can grab it yourself. Very safe and minimal contact ! Plus they have a great sale. Peep the boots I landed !!! read more

First of all the guy with the reviews saying you're going to pay full MSRP price is right BUT only if you buy at a REI store. If you go online to REI they have a REI Outlet section with GREAT deals with a lot of stuff half off. So, that being said here is my review for this outlet: I ordered a rear bike like flasher for my gravel/road bike. They had a Bonetrager rear light (Phase one) for only $15.00. Amazon is selling them for 45.00 so ya know....I ordered for a drive up from the Ontario store. No issue ordering online, drove 20 miles to pick it up and used it last night on a short little 7 mile ride. For drive up they have many spaces in front of the store. You park like Target and then hit the button on the App saying you're there. After three of four minutes she came out and gave it to me after checking ID. So other than an over crowded strip mall (common for the crap hole known as RANCHO COO COO MUNGA!!!) I say order online and go pick it up. the line to get in was over ten deep, it's been hot out and they looked pissy having to wait. I can't give a review of the inside of the store but REI employees are usually smart and know their individual gear. PS I bought $129.00 Shimano SPD cripples shoes for $79.00 on the REI outlet and they're great! I looked after I bought them and EVERYONE else has the same shoes for the $129.00 so go look in REI.com under sales and the REI Outlet part of the site. Good stuff at a discount for sure and I've been using it for years. Good Bonetrager Phase one light FYI. For only $15.00 it has back and side view and is very bright, works great from at least 1/4 mile away and I'm good with that. read more

Love this location, have spent thousands in the last two months here on my business trips and family visits. Wendell was a tremendous help this time and helped me pick out the perfect dometic freezer/refrigerated chest. Unfortunately it wasn't in store but he went above and beyond and brought me a unit to examine from the back that was currently being used by the store for employees. It was exactly what I wanted and I went ahead and ordered at the front desk for ship to home. Wendell was courteous, helpful and patient. This has been one of my stores for 30 years. I have been to this location a few times but not recently, until two days ago. There and we had the pleasure of meeting Abby. She was very knowledgeable and gave us very good information. I used to go backpacking, and it was nice to have a refresher course on the new equipment. Epic REI Our experience was amazing! Trish was the best! She helped my husband with his two purchases. Trish is very knowledgeable with all the products and merchandise. Really expensive but we were able to find what we needed like hiking pants and head gear. Hiking pants was about $100 and headgear was about $30. They have hand sanitizer, free masks, and a line just in case it was over limited capacity. They have fitting rooms open. The workers were really helpful. 3-4 employees asked me if I needed help with anything. 20% off for $20 membership. They have clearance items in the front left like hydroflasks, headgear, and clothes. Stuff in the store that stood out to me included the bikes, books, dehydrated food etc read more

Carlos does not pass the vibe check. I went in for some returns and to buy more gear for upcoming trip. floor staff was incredible as always except when i went to do the returns i was met with Carlos who was extremely judgmental and even threatened t membership be cancelled if i did too many returns - EXCEPT - ive done returns here before with zero issues. the other staff always encouraged me to try out their products w the then option to return if i was not satisfied so what the heck?? i just left after the return bc i was so turned off by the experience. felt bad for the sweet lady that helped me with the camping chairs and tables as well as the rumpl blanket. she was awesome! didnt end up purchasing more this trip bc carlos just straight ups sucks. ill go to a different location where i wont be criminally side eyed by the staff. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning close to opening time and to my surprise, there wasn't a line! The staff member at the door directed guests on where to go depending on what they needed. Inside the store, there were physical distancing stickers on the floor, the shoe section had a one way in and out flow, the staff were helpful and physically distanced themselves even when assisting guests, and they cleaned the pay pad with a new cotton ball with sanitizer after each guest! I felt very safe and was very impressed by their safety measures in place!! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon to look at snowboarding gear. I'm in the market to buy snowboarding boots, so I wanted to try on different brands of boots to make sure they fit me if I were to purchase online. The sales associate was super helpful and very easy to talk to. He was an older fellow, very knowledgeable in snowboarding. He answered all my questions and gave me a lot of helpful tips on how the boots should feel. What I appreciated the most was that he took his time to help me. I was honest with him that I wasn't ready to purchase, yet he was still there and helped me try on different pairs of boots. He even helped me out with looking at boards too. I called twice and was transferred to the shoe department. Both times I waited 5 minutes and no one picked up the phone. I called a 3rd time and asked for the manager. I was put on hold again, then the manager finally answered. I asked if they had hiking shoes in my size and she said no. I was surprised by this so I went to their store website and they had shoes in my size listed. I have had positive experiences with them in the past, but clearly they are having serious organizational problems now. Do they actually have shoes in my size? Who knows? They sure don't. read more

I attended my first members only clearance sale which are held semi monthly to quarterly at each location. The sale takes place before store hours and there are some significant savings. I arrived before 7:00 am and there was a large line just to get colored wristbands. The four different color wristbands are for 15 minutes of shopping and the groups are randomly chosen. As long as you receive a wristband you really don't have to arrive early. The sale for members started at 7:45 and lasted until 9:20 for members. I ended up in the third group but still scored on Merrell hiking boots, sandals, and hiking shorts. You'll find just about everything from kayaks, bikes, clothing, backpacks, lots of shoes, tents and plenty of additional outdoor paraphernalia. This sale was for members only and if you partiscipate they'll charge you the one time life time fee at register but the sale was open to the public after 9:30 am. I didn't feel like nuisance or never got any attitude from the employees. Made me feel really comfortable shopping here, looking around at the gear, clothes, and trying stuff on. Tried to come in and look at some outdoor shoes. Unbelievably RUDE and inappropriate staff working the shoe area today. Several guests, not just me, audibly complaining about him and trying to get the Manager to do something about the employees behavior. Manager decided to defend him instead. Completely unacceptable! When you have multiple guests complaining about the exact same thing regarding the exact same employee, maybe you should listen and do something about it. Shoe dept review Came on a Monday around 5pm during their anniversary sale. No line to enter or no line for check out compared to when I went on Friday around 1pm the check out line wrapped all the way to the back of the store. Came in for trail runners, did my online research beforehand of which shoes to try on. You stand outside the shoe area until an associate assists you to avoid overcrowding in the shoe area & they have 6 numbered chairs for guests. All employees wore masks. They take their COVID precautions throughout the store pretty serious so I felt good Ron in the shoe dept assisted me in bring out my sizes and off I went with my new trail runners. He was very patient, and great in helping me read more

The employees on the floor were fine, 90% of them friendly. The cashier was not. She was ok when I first went up to pay, but when she tried to tell me about membership and I said no thank you, her attitude changed. She was short and rude. She also didn't give me a bag for my items, yet I saw multiple people get a bag for their small and big items. It wasn't a big deal, but passive aggressiveness doesn't scream good customer service. And I definitely am not one to think the customer is always right, but employees like her can definitely be wrong. First and last time at that location. read more

I went in to exchange a pair of boots, I didn't know what to expect or if I would be able to. Trisha helped me out consistently throughout my visit and was so nice and had great customer service. She went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I also was extraordinary impressed with Joanne in the footwear department, she walked me through the different boot options and helped me with the many questions I had. Her product knowledge and general hiking knowledge was very useful and she gave me a bunch of tips and tricks that will come in handy on the trail. There was another gentleman that helped me, maybe nick I don't remember his name but he was also great. This place is the Nordstrom of outdoor sports. They carry top of the line gear for camping, shoes and outdoor clothing. Yes, the prices can seem somewhat high, but do you really want cheap gear when you are hiking, camping, etc? I'm going to say "no". They do run the occasional sale and they send out coupons to members, so that takes a bit of the sting away from the prices. Their customers also seem to be really enthusiastic. My last visit there to buy shoes, I struck up a conversation with another customer, and he offered some recommendations for me, which seemed to carry a little more weight than if it came from a salesperson. read more

Venturing into an REI store create something of an internal struggle for me... On one hand, I am reminded of my great love for all things outdoors-- hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, cycling-- The list is long, indeed. On the other, I sort of shake my head a little bit at the notion that one believes s/he needs a $400 holo-fill jacket for a two night stay in the San Gabriel Mountains. Still, I signed up for a membership years ago, and regularly spend my dividend purchasing all sorts of odds and ends. Like many sporting good stores, REI has sort of transformed into a shoe and clothing store, that carries expensive headlamps, ice chests, and water bottles. Yet I often find myself shopping for a gift for the wife here. I suppose I'm a lucky man that I can pick up something at a jewelry store or at REI, and I'm equally a long hike from the doghouse and a birthday or Christmas. I recently stopped in here to look for a seats for my wash deck sit on top kayaks. Sun and surf have a way of eating up canvas. Much like Bass Pro, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Big 5, they did not have any in the store. The benevolent millennials running the front end encouraged me to look online. Granted, they had several clipped to the top of new kayaks leaning against a display in the store, but because they were not barcoded with a SKU, they were not able to sell them to me. In the end, I looked online... Found them on Amazon, and purchased three. Tough break for the retail stores, I guess, on that one, but good for my bottom line and my bottom sitting on floating Tupperware. But don't worry, REI, I still love you, and I'll be back. Where else will I find a Yeti Cooler Hopper 12 for $250? Incidentally, Yeti cooler plugs work perfectly as kayak drain plug replacements, which are hard to find. So there's that. read more

Given the difficulty of finding the bike you want anywhere lately, the folks at REI really walked me through the whole process and helped me pick out the best one for my needs. Once I bought my bike and accessories, the shop team put it all together for me and attached all my accessories so all I had to do was ride it out the door! Kudos to the Rancho Cucamonga Store Ski Shop staff. I went in to get new ski bindings mounted and boots (heat) fitted. The staff were all wonderful. Big shout out to: the ski Tech for prioritizing my work so I didn't have to come back again (3 hours and a half tank of gas); the girl at the ski register, for being so helpful, friendly and going out of her way for me; and the Manager who helped me so courteously with the boot fitting.
