Very very unhappy with competitive edge cycler's service. I purchased cycling shoes and tried them out that same day (lightly) to see how they actually performed and felt. Unfortunately Not what I expected but I wasn't to worried because on the receipt and on the website of competitive edge cyclery they clearly state that any returns within 30 days of purchase would be refunded or replaced, in this case a refund. I spoke to Mark the owner of both shops and he just gave me the runaround without even looking at the shoes ! The service here is top notch and the the technicians that work here are highly experienced and professional. I brought my Schwinn mountain bike here that I had purchased on Amazon after the right pedal stripped out while riding. I tried to fix it on my own not knowing all the intricacies that go into the maintenance. It didn't go well. Anyways, I brought the bike here and expressed my concerns and they took care of it. Not only did they fix everything the bike crank and pedals, they went above and beyond. They properly indexed the bike and routed all the brake and gear cables properly. If I could give this store zero stars, I would. But my initial interaction with the technician at this store was pleasant, so 1 star will suffice. After calling ahead to get a quote on brake pad adjustment on a bike I had purchased from Amazon, I was quoted $30 for this service. I thought that was completely reasonable, so I took my bike in that night and dropped it off for the adjustment and was given a receipt with $30 written on it as a quote. After a few days, I received a phone call from a gentleman who was working on my bike and stated he needed to talk to me about the bike. I called back and he had very broken English, but was saying something along the lines of my pedal was missing. I didn't quite understand him, so I told him that both of my pedals were there when we dropped it off. He then proceeded to tell me he found it and would call me back when my bike was finished. He finally called me back a couple of hours later and stated that my bike was ready for pickup. When we went to pick up my bike, I stayed in the car with my two young children while my husband went in to pick up my bike. When my husband went in, they said they had mixed up my bike tag with another bike's repairs. When they found my bike, they had already taken payment from my husband and then told him it was going to be $69 for a "tune up". When my husband told the associate that we did not request a tune-up, nor were we informed it was necessary or gave our ok to proceed with that service. My husband demanded that the associate refund the difference to his card for the cost of the "tune up" and to only charge us for the brake pad adjustment (which was in writing on our receipt), since it was what we had discussed. The associate initially refused, stating he "couldn't let an unsafe bike leave his shop" and that this was a current law. This is a complete lie and as with a car, you cannot do work that was not agreed upon or discussed prior to getting consent from the owner and subsequently charge the owner for it. After some further arguing back and forth, the associate finally refunded my husband the extra $39 that was charged for the "tune-up" they performed. Fast forward to today. I was out riding my bike and attempting to change gears, the chain completely came off and my bike is unable to change gears. I completely feel my bike was never worked on or touched because if they had performed this "tune-up" they claimed, the incident today would not have happened. Bikers beware of this shop, they are taking advantage of riders who need their service. I am extremely disappointed in the service and customer service that was portrayed by this shop. read more

Was going here for years without issues other than they are way more expensive than Incycle down the street. But we live so close to this one, when our bikes get a flat we walk the bike over to get fixed. We had our flat fixed and were sold the expensive pink Armour tire liner $60 plus $20 to put it in and another $21 for another inner tube. Spent $110 after tax. The next day the tire went flat... granted when I picked it up the tire looked very odd and even lopsided but what do I know I don't work at a bike shop, so I just figured it was just the insert filling up the tire. My husband pumped it up thinking maybe they just forgot to inflate the tube, so we did that. We never rode it, it stayed in garage. The next day it was flat again. I called them to let them know it was flat again and we never used it. He said maybe the kid that was working on it, who literally was a young boy maybe pinched it when putting it in... brought it in... called them later that evening to see if they were able to figure it out. The guy was super rude claiming he doesn't know what happened when we left the shop so we have to pay for another tube and he would waive the $20 to install it. He mentioned he got yelled at by the owner and that he is loosing product so he needs to charge. I asked what happens to the tire though. He claimed there were two small holes like from a staple... if there were two tiny holes from a staple then what was the point of the $60 protector they swore would take a nail to pop the tube not a tiny staple. Again was super rude claiming I must have done something to the tire. I was like "the next day it was flat" I didn't even use it. I'm not trying to get crap for free, I paid for a new tube and spent $110 to protect the tube and somehow a tiny staple he claimed. Again he was just assuming but really the first thing of what he said over the phone with the kid replacing the tire and that he might have punched it seemed more likely. But that required them to "loose product" but instead they lost a customer that had been going there for years and the one time there is an issue they are rude as crap and take no responsibility or want to make it right. Will never go here again and will make sure the rest of our family doesn't either. Go to incycle! They are super friendly replace it right in front of you so you can SEE what they are actually doing and have great attitudes. read more

Went it to see if they had any bikes within a price range most bike shops have and he said they didn't have any and wouldn't get any for a while so I said is there any bikes you would recommend and he said let's look for a certain type of bike and I told him enduro and he started only showing me xc bikes when I told him it was an xc bike he kept saying no no it's an enduro when it clearly wasn't and the whole time talking to him he had a bad attitude that made us leave the store within 5 minutes. Then a couple year prior to this we went in and they still had bad attitude and weren't helpful at all. Wouldn't recommend going here. Thought they would improve over two year but I guess not. read more

Went in to have my Townie repaired after not being able to ride it for a few months. My first time at the shop. Jeff took the to the bike back for a look. He said there was a 2 week wait for repairs because of high demand. After about 10 minutes, he came back with my bike and said it was all ready to go. He had adjusted the breaks and the wheel, oiled the chain, and the bike ran good as new. Just like that! Thank you Jeff for your honesty and expertise. I took my bike in to get a tire replaced and rear to front tire rotation. Well it turns out that changing a tire at competitive edge results in a complete misalignment of the rear derailleur and chain system. I honestly just can't comprehend why they would consider my bike to be ready for pick up without having previously checked that the derailleur and chain system was functioning properly. Or if they did check and saw it wasn't shifting properly, I don't understand why they wouldn't take a couple minutes to fix the problem they caused. Probably wouldn't take my bike back to them even if they offered to correct their mediocre work for free. 2 stars simply because now I decided I'd learn to service my own bike, thanks competitive edge! read more

Based on the reviews this seems like it would be a decent bike shop. I thought I would give them a try since they are much closer to me then my preferred shop. Unfortunately, my experiences showed a lack of care and attention to detail. I own two e-bikes one of which I brought to them for a rear tire flat and tune up. It took substantially longer then the agreed upon time for them to complete the requested service. When I went to pick up the bike (and drop a second bike off for some minor adjustments), I had to point out to them that the rear tire was NOT properly seated on the rim and the tube was pinched out between the rim and the tire. They fixed it but it took several tries, I don't know how this went unnoticed while the bike was on the stand and have never experienced this with any bike shop before. What I also noticed after a thorough inspection at home was a large scratch on my front rim as if someone had dropped a tool on it and that a zip tie securing the electrical cable to the frame had NOT been replaced after servicing the bike. My initial experience with them had soured me on the idea them working on my second bike so I went back to pick-up my bike before they started any work. Somehow, they caused a small tear in my bike seat without doing any work! I also got the vibe that they were doing me a favor by working on my bike. No "thank you for your business" or "Whoops, our bad on the tire mess" but lots of "yeahs" and "okays". To be fair I did not address these issues with them because I thought it wouldn't go anywhere, especially with the attitude. I will never take a bike here again. I would rather push my e-bike six miles to my preferred bike shop then go here. read more

Don't know where to begin with my disappointment with this business. I can write many paragraphs. I dropped off two bikes weeks ago and finally after calling many times I came in. They said the bikes are done. Out of the 10 things I asked to do, only 1 thing, new tires, was done correctly and that was wrong even. Such incompetent fools. They didn't do what I wanted and broke 2 pieces. I should've not paid but I just wanted to get my bikes out of that place. I asked for owners name and was freely given. Stores get busy and the hired help just can't spend much time with you on the phone. If you have a technical question, the first person might not have the answer so it's hot potato with the phone. This place has superb customer service! Everyone is friendly and cool to talk to. I like that they fix the bikes too. Even brought my flat jogging stroller tire here a while back and they got it patched up in no time. Everyone in here is knowledgable about bikes since it seems like everyone who works here rides. So they will be more than happy to give you thier opinion on any products and questions you may have. They tell it like it is and won't try to sell you more than what you need. The inside of the store may not be all shiney and sparkily like other retail sporting goods shops, but the excellent service and quality products more than make up for the store front. Make sure you get there before they close! I was running behind in my schedule and was on my way to their shop to drop off two bikes for repair. I contacted them and asked if they could hang around for about 1 min or two because my kids need there bikes fixed. They refused to stay open for 1 to 2 mins. Other than that they do great work on some bikes they I have had their before. But it's sucks they could not stay open for 1 to 2 mins just for me to drop my bikes off. read more

I'll tell you what I spent maybe 2 1/2 hours on all my trips to this shop just asking questions and testing the bikes out.. Steven and Andrew are really great and know what they are doing at this shop.. I'll tell you what if these guys weren't so cool and knowledgeable I would have gone to another shop.. I picked up 2 bikes and a few extras and spent a little over 1,600. I feel like I invested my money right because this shop offers great service for 2 years. For instance tune ups and maintenance.. Great place best money spent in a while.... Also the other shop in upland was great too! So great workers means they must have a great owner.. Before we arrivedI was bracing myself to get frustrated and leave, expecting high-pressure sales and uncomfortable questions. I was proven 100% wrong. Andrew was so incredibly great at helping me navigate through the sea of options to find a couple of ideal bikes that would work best for my needs. He was incredibly respectful and really a pleasure to chat with as he did a sort of show and tell for various options. I have been meaning to get back into cycling now that I am retired. Both my wife and I had talked about it for a few months. With the country pretty much stopped, seemed like a good time to finally take that step and to take a look at what is out there. As soon as we walked into the store in RANCHO CUCAMONGA, you could feel the good vibes. We were immediately approached as to how we could be helped. Jeff took care of both my wife's and my desires without any pressure. He listened to what we thought we were after, took pity on us, and directed us to what I thought were great recommendations in line with our needs. He spent the time necessary to talk to us, tune the bikes for quick test rides, and outfit us with helmets. They even didn't seem to get too annoyed with two grandkids running around the store when we had to call our son-in-law to bring his truck so we could get the bikes home. It was a good experience and look forward to getting my cycling needs taken care of here in the future. My leaky Cannondale Lefty shock was turned in under the premises that they would either work on it, or turn it into Cannondale as needed. They promised to call me with updates. The work order consisted of refilling the hydraulic brake reservoir as well. Two weeks later, I called in to check on the status of my bike only to be told that the shock cannot be worked on due to it being an older model, per Cannondale. They don't manufacture parts for it any longer. They also talked over me(a little agitated, but still holding together) to get the message across that SOMEONE from that shop called to inform me of this. They said the only option was to buy a new fork for +$1000. Drove down to the shop resembling a parent whose child was neglected at a daycare. No work was done at all on the bike, and I don't think they tried to reach out to other places. If a lay person like me could find a place that would fix it for $60 after two phone calls, I am sure they could have achieved something equal or better, had they tried. I sent it out, and got it back within a week. I am just happy to have it done, with or without Competitive Edge. Those that gave five stars, I believe you. I hope you believe mine amidst all these GOOD work done by this shop. I don't mean to say they they had malicious intent, but this absolutely qualifies for negligence that resulted in a waste of my time. read more
