I have a large and high quality vintage racing bike collection--I ride 531 and Columbus steel lugged bikes--and I bring my bikes to Lloyd at Bumstead's as he is one of the very few in the entire Inland Empire who can fix my steeds. He can replace cotter pins, deal with threaded headsets, build traditional wheelsets, trim friction derailleurs, and almost everything else. And remember, Lloyd was selling electric bikes before the boom, so he can fix anything from 1940 to today. Best of all Lloyd and the staff are all great people. I needed to determine the right size of my bike's seatpost. The manufacturer had specified 30.9, but we couldn't fit that size more than about an inch or two. The bike came with a 29.8 and a small shim near the top where it gets clamped. Bumpstead mechanic determined that is the best we can do, since it was a 25 year old bike. This review is long overdue, and for that, I do apologize to the owner of Bumstead. I took my bike about a year ago for a basic turn-up and some other minor adjustments. I should add that my bike is a costly road bike. Nonetheless, my bike had to stay there a little while, as other customers were ahead of me. An unforeseen accident happened to my bike while in the car of Bumstead. When I saw my bike, you can imagine my disbelief and that of the owners. These things do happen and are sometimes outside our control. I will say this: the shop owner went far and above to make things right. You won't find this quality in many people these days. I've moved to LA and find myself too far to be a return customer, but if you're in his area, I suggest supporting his business. Needed to take my bike in after it dragged behind my car on the freeway a few miles. (Rachet strap broke) I was told to take it here..... so I drove the 63 miles one way..... left my bike and I was pleasantly surprised when they called a week later to tell me my bike was ready. We bought 2 Aventon e bikes. Lloyd's shop IS the oldest Schwinn Shop, of course Schwinn is ONLY a name. No longer of the Chicago fame. Just another stamp on the imported bicycles transported from the orient. Anyway they still operate like an "old school" bicycle dealer, you know "brick and mortar" Lloyd was there but Frank was our salesman. Very knowledgeable and been in and around bicycles for decades. I think collectively between Lloyd and Frank there's almost a century of experience. Not many places you can get THAT! Our Aventon aventure e bikes are sooo nice! Aventon ebikes you can order online BUT the dealership experience is priceless. Aventon should only deliver their bikes via dealers, to control quality/warranty issues. Saving "a couple bucks" and avoiding dealers will/may impact the brand, and consumer experience. Besides, how else are you going to test ride a bike. It could cost manufactures in lawsuits when an inexperienced DIYer assembles a bike and has an incident. (I guess the CPSC doesn't exist) Bottom line BUY at Bumstead's!!! 6/27/2020 Drove to Ontario Mills and stopped by Bumstead's after checking out bike shops nearby via Yelp. I live in Glendale and have gone to a couple of local bike shops for bottom bracket upgrade. The people here in Glendale were not straightforward to deal with as they tried to sell me things that I did not need. They also wanted me to bring my bike to their store so they can install the part for me and of course, for an extra fee! The nice gentleman who helped me at Bumstead's today was so easy to deal with. He did not haggle and he even gave he helpful advice on how to upgrade my bottom bracket! The price of the bottom bracket is much lower here too!
