TL;DR version: Needed tuneups for a couple of bikes, bike shops were too busy, Alvin came to my house and saved the day! Our bikes were badly in need of tune ups, especially now that we have time to ride (THANKS COVID-19). First attempt at solving my problem: watching Youtube videos about how to perform a bike tuneup. BAD idea. These Youtubers make everything look so easy. All I accomplished was taking a bad situation and making it worse. Plan B: call the local bike shop to see if they could take it. Unfortunately, everyone ELSE has more time to ride now too, which means more people riding, more people buying bikes, and more people getting their bikes fixed. All of the local bike shops were swamped with work, and at best it was going to be a two-week turnaround if I dropped my bike off at any of them. Unfeasible. Final solution: look for a mobile or work-from-home bike mechanic. THIS is how I came across VeloFix. After reaching out to the company, I was referred to the local bike mechanic, Alvin D. Alvin contacted me, let me know his availability, and was here AT MY HOUSE the next day! Alvin showed up in his fancy mobile repair van, promptly at the time upon which we agreed, and got to work. After I explained my situation, Alvin did his thing, and a little over an hour later, BOTH bikes had been cleaned and tuned up. Not only did Alvin provide exceptional customer service throughout the whole process, but he did it at a reasonable rate as well, AND it was done quickly while I sat in the comfort of my own home. I've definitely found my go-to for all my bike repair needs. My daughter's bike was her big brother's old ones! The bike was having some issues and I didn't know how to fix it. One of my friend recommended Velofix so I called them right away. I thought they did not fix children's bikes but Alvin was very nice and I made an appointment with him. Alvin came right on time and he heard all of my concerns. He began right away to work on the bike. When he was done, he had my daughter test the bike and then made few other adjustments that I didn't even know about in order to make the bike ride better! Just tried Velofix for the first time and am highly pleased with the service. Alvin repaired a derailer problem on my 2003 Cannondale Scalpel that my regular bike shop couldn't fix in a tune up and return visit. Chain was popping all over the rear sprockets under load making the bike pretty much unridable, Alvin worked on it for about 30 minutes and discovered and straightened a bent arm that attaches the derailer. He also fully tested the bike, and gave me a chance to do so as well. Works perfectly now. I contacted Velofix on Thursday February 14th and requested service for Saturday February 16th. From my first phone call, to Alvin coming to my home to service my Ghost Riot mountain bike, EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! Alvin arrived early (I really appreciate timely service). He was very friendly, polite and professional! He took a lot of time to hear my concerns. Before working on my bike, he gave me the option to stay and watch all the repairs in the big mobile van, or I could simply go back to doing whatever I needed to do. I actually did both (went back and forth from working on another project inside my home, to periodically checking on the bike repairs). Alvin has state of the art tools (looks like he could actually build a bike in that work van) and everything necessary to repair any type of bike. From start to finish, it was about 90 minutes for all of my maintenance and repair. Alvin took the time to go over each repair and maintenance issue. I did a couple of test rides, Alvin made a few additional minor adjustments and that was it!!! Velofix prices are very fair too (was cheaper than my local bike shop). And to top this off, THEY CAME TO ME and FIT INTO MY SCHEDULE! I highly recommend Alvin and Velofix! I'll definitely use this service again!!! read more
