This place is located in Cypress plaza. I think it is where the Juice It Up used to be, next to the pho place. They serve tea. At the time there was no line and they had a menu outside so I didn't have to stand inside and stare at the menu deciding. After ordering it came out quickly. They accepted cash. Although I think I'm getting too much into role-playing my D&D character, there was a drink called Toxic Garden on the menu so I got that. The sweetness of that was not adjustable but it wasn't that sweet anyway and tasted more bitter due to the vegetables inside it. I liked it for being less sweet than all those others that I had to ask for less sweetness. There's a Starbucks PokéStop in the same part of this plaza. One can spin it outside. I dont leave reviews often, but I feel like this is one spot I have to leave a review for. For the most part, every time I go the workers are always friendly. At times they do seem bored out of their mind to talk to you, but as someone who works a service job, you can't always blame them for that. I love all of their teas from their milk teas to their speciality teas. Unlike other boba shops, I feel like you can really taste the tea and not as many artificial feelings as other places. Even in their speciality teas, I can really taste the green tea. I go there every monday and get their French Daisy. Really recommend it for someone who doesn't really like green tea. I'm not a big green tea fan, but the flavor really compliments it and now i'm a fan of all of their green tea drinks. As for the drink, not too sure if it's because I asked for 100% sugar , it tastes like sugar milk without the tea favor. My friends described their drinks the same way and they ordered the Thai tea. And it's kinda pricy for the drink. The two stars I gave is for free of charge on the toppings yet The boba is kinda hard. Maybe it's just today. Maybe I should have ordered 50% sugar. This boba shop is one that's definitely a step above the rest. With a vast menu of options, you'll be sure to find something you'll like. The interior is very cute and trendy. They provide samples up at the front so you can try drinks, especially if you're not sure about whether you want to spend money on a new drink you don't know if you'll like or not. They have several drinks that are different from the standard variety you'll get at your average boba shop. This definitely makes Redstraw stand out from the rest with a unique menu offering. Although this boba shop is pricier than others, the (only) drink size is definitely very large. So you're not getting less for more money. I ordered the Rose Garden - which was delicious! I love lychee in anything so I was excited to see this option. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet or flavored so it was the perfect refreshing drink. The boba was also well made. Redstraw puts so much effort into making creative and truly refreshing drinks! So far I've had... 1. Toxic Garden: I liked that the green juice blend was prominent but you could still taste the tea. Very well balanced! 2. Signature Milk Tea: My boyfriend to-go'd this for me so it was a little diluted since some of the ice melted. However, I thought this drink was okay. I tasted a lot of milk and not much of the black tea. 3. Matcha Mojito: Best drink ever! I've never thought to combine mint and matcha together, but it was so good. Unless you're a hardcore milk tea fan, I recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and try the Mojito/fruit-based drinks. This was okay. It was a cute place overall but boba and flavors were interesting. I ordered the oolong milk tea boba which was average. My boyfriend ordered the watermelon green tea mint mojito. Maybe they heard our orders wrong but when does a mint mojito come with lime? And where was the watermelon? The lime in the green tea was interesting. I can't believe the service we just received.. I'm very disappointed. Please treat your customers with more respect. My wife and I received a coupon to buy one drink, get a drink free. We went to order 2 drinks. Something tasted wrong with hers, so we asked to get her drink replaced. Your service rep at the desk with blonde braided hair refused, saying "No we can't do that -- you used your BOGO coupon and it's store policy not to exchange your drink". That doesn't make sense.. So which is it: it's your store policy not to exchange a drink? Or because we used a coupon, or... because you don't want to exchange the drink? So I asked, "So if we paid full price, and we still felt like the drink didn't taste right, i.e. the tea tastes like it was oversteeped, or whatever other reason, you won't remake it for your customer, or give us another drink to replace it?" I mean... I tasted that thai tea, and it had a very bad lingering aftertaste. It's just a thai tea... That's irrelevant to the drink tasting wrong, from a customer's perspective. So she went to the back to speak to someone only to say, "Ok we're going to replace it just this once. What would you like?" At that point, we re-ordered, only for her to end our interaction by motioning us to step to the side, offensively waving us off to the side like she was irritated/annoyed with us, even saying "Can you????", shooing us off with her hands like some vermin off. I was surprised, offended, and disappointed. At least say, "Thank you, please wait for your drink on the side". We're not coming back. We will go to the several other bubble tea shops nearby instead. read more

A new addition to the boba places in Orange County. This place is slightly different where they make use a pour over for their tea and their drinks are all beautiful colors. Since it's not powder, the tea does taste watery than other boba places but has a stronger tea flavor. I personally liked that a bit more and the boba was the right chewiness and not overly sweet. I really like that they make their teas to order using loose leaf. It's not often that I get to see places actually use tea to make their milk tea. The scents are recognizable in the drinks and they don't rely on artificial sweeteners/flavoring to create a drink. If you like teas, I'd recommend this place for sure. Let's just say that Juice it up (the smoothie place that occupied the space before) won't be missed. Irvine certainly has been spoiling us with new trendy food places and has allowed Red Straw to grace us with its presence. I went during the soft opening period and it's really quite refreshing to see tea made right before my eyes verses seeing powders and jugs brought out to make boba drinks. Let me tell you, compared to the watery 7leaves Strawberry Hibiscus, Red Straw's Strawberry Jasmine tea knocks it right out of the park. You can tell they use all natural, real ingredients. While the price point is ~$5 a drink, you get what you pay for--and it's delicious. I can't wait until they fully open so I can come around and try their other flavors. This place always has the most abysmal wait times. There's also no sense of teamwork from the staff, none of them communicate orders and as a result it takes too long. Last time I went they also seemed to skip around order numbers working on easier orders that came after me while ignoring people that had ordered before me.
