We have had Redd's on our list the last few times we've been down for a hockey game. We stopped in on a Friday night while a show was happening at the prudential center. The space at the time was not packed but was populated heavily by college groups. We easily found seating at the bar and had a very attentive bartender. We ordered the pretzel and potato pancakes as starters. Both were exactly as expected and the mustard beer cheese was perfect! We will definitely be back again!

HUGE Biergarten right next to Prudential center, perfect to go to before games and events. Pro tip: if you avoid coming here during days that have events at Prudential since the happy hour deals are voided. Super roomy and plenty of beer selections to choose from. Parking gets tricky in this area of Newark, but there's plenty of paid parking lots.

Came in for a to-go pretzel to eat in line for my concert. I appreciated that the waitress was friendly and helped me quickly. She made me "cherry cokes" by using grenadine - she didn't have to do that but it was so appreciated since I was really craving one! The pretzel was warm and perfect to hold me over for the concert. Tip was included in the bill, which is good to be aware of. Overall a great experience!

So I'm staying in Newark for a few days on business. Absolutely shocked at what a nasty area it turned into. I can definitely handle myself, but didn't feel very safe leaving the hotel. But hunger got the best of me so I ventured out. Redd's is a cool place, at the time only a couple people sitting at the bar, the bartenders were really cool, but I took food to go after having a beer. And into my surprise, the food was excellent ! Pretzel was fantastic as well as the Wienerschnitzel. I eat German food often and have been to Germany many times, and this food ranks up there with the best. Hope I never have to go back to Newark, but if I do, I would again risk my life to go to Redds.

It's a good place to come here for a happy hour or for lunch if you're in the area. They have plenty of space and they even have some separate rooms if you have a big event that you want to have in private. We came on a Tuesday for lunch at around 11:30ish and it was just our group which was nice since we basically had the whole place to ourselves. The bartender was very kind to us and very attentive. You do have to go up to the bar to order both drinks and food. I got a Rum and Coke, which was pretty standard. For the table, we got some potato pancakes, which were pretty good - fyi it was my first time trying them. I ordered some chicken tenders as well as some fries; the bartender was great and he offered to give me all of the sauces to try the chicken tenders with which I really appreciated - I definitely recommend the honey mustard, it was fantastic. The fries were OK, but got cold pretty quickly. Beware, the place can be fairly cold so make sure you're wearing warm clothes if it's in the winter!

Cheers!

Huge place with different areas wherever you want. Came here for a college alumni & it was super packed for about an hour but great place overall & the staff is friendly. I didn't try any food but definitely will next time!

German Bratwurst Platter

I was attending the Tony Robbins conference next door and was tired of the concessions at the arena, so we stepped out and came over here as it was close and convenient. We were greeted at the door and picked a table to sit. I went to the bar and ordered a beer and then sat down and perused the menu. My Hefeweizen beer was cold and fresh, just like in Germany. So far, so good. My friend and I decided we wanted a pretzel and the "German Wurst Platter" but we only wanted the traditional Bratwurst and the Spicy Cheddar Brats, which they happily agreed to. Service was quick, they gave you a beeper, and a few minutes later, our pretzel was ready- it was hot and soft and chewy and delicious, as was the beer-cheese sauce served with it. A few minutes later, the beeper went off again, and there was our platter, we were both impressed by how large it was! I have spent a lot of time in Germany and I must say, this food was comparable- the brats were outstanding. Service was friendly and the vibe was great. I had another beer and then we headed back to the conference, bellies full and a bit more relaxed. I would love to come here during a hockey game, I am sure it would be lots of fun!!

Inside, packed!

My wife and I stopped in before a Devils playoff game. This place was rocking! Extremely crowded! But that didn't interfere with the super food and terrific beverages we enjoyed before the game. I thought their chicken Caesar salad was absolutely delicious and my wife truly enjoyed her potato pancakes. Hopefully we'll be able to go back when it's not so manic! I'm sure it will still be spot on!

Potato pancakes and Vegan Sausage

Redds is a large biergarten right next to the Prudential Center in Newark. They have large harvest tables where you sit wherever. Their process is good - you order at a counter, get your beer, get a buzzer and pick up your food from a pick up window. The food was most good and there's a vegetarian menu. I tried the following: - Bavarian pretzel - one of the better pretzels that I've had this was fantastic - Potato Pancakes - nicely made hashbrowns and they were good - Vegan Sausage - Boo. I've had vegan sausage before that was grilled perfectly but this one was soft and blah - if they grilled it like a regular sausage they'd have a better outcome. The fries were good though - Onion Ring - huge but super greasy - I would not get them again The biggest problem with Redds is the sound - it is LAF! There is no sound proofing so the decibel levels are crazy. I couldn't hear the person across from me without screaming. They're also playing music which is fine you can't hear it anyway.

Devil's Brew

Dropped in here to get a drink before a concert. The Devil's Brew is quite good. Goes down smooth and the aftertaste is quite pleasant. The fries are quite crispy and thick. There's obviously a lot of German food here, mostly wurst (sausage). Everything does seem quite overpriced here, but I expected as much being so close to the prudential center. Other than that, there's plenty of table, bench, and bar seating, and TVs for watching sports games. Order at the bar and pickup non-drink items at the side area. Bathrooms are surprisingly quite clean.

Flying Fish Hazy IPA

I've been here a numerous times, and probably forgot my debit card once or twice. They have an AMAZING beer selection, especially for IPA fans who barely find anything good. The food is great too, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend the mac and cheese bites because they are the best thing ever, along with the French onion soup. Next I would recommend cheddar Bratwurst platter, comes with a lot of fries, and the sausage is always on point. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is getting into a fight with another fan because if you are looking for help you, they will not. They had no functioning cameras, they knew the other person was being a problem, and just threw their hands on the situation. Very nonchalant and annoying. We still come here like the dedicated fans we are, and it's right across the stadium from the Prudential Center.

If you knew me, I always seeked out local breweries wherever I traveled and made it a point to visit any I could before I departed. Opened in late-2021 as the U.S. slowly started to open up at the tailend of the Covid pandemic, husband and wife owners, Stephen and Miller Hughes as avid beer enthusiasts with a passion for making their own beer, decided to follow their dream of opening a brewery and event space in the heart of downtown Newark where there once was a rich beer history. How did Newark's lone local beer producer treat my palate!? PURCHASE(S) *All beers from Newark Local Beer* Orange Crush Wheat Beer 4.9% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Bright amber color, citrusy wheaty aroma, light body, citrusy orange sweet wheaty flavor, crushable smooth finish, and citrusy wheaty aftertaste. Lite Rail Kölsch Beer 5.2% ABV 16floz Draft ($8.00): Amber color, biscuit malty aroma, light body, biscuit citrusy malty flavor, crisp smooth finish, and biscuit malty aftertaste. Utz "The Crab Chip" w/Chesapeake Bay Crab Seasoning Potato Chips 7.75oz Bag ($6.00): With no real nearby food options except for delivery, I chose this over beef jerky and the unique flavor of minimal crab and salty seasoning that made me really thirsty... a plus for a brewery! Sidecar Session IPA Beer 4.5% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Rich amber color, funky hoppy aroma, light body, dank hoppy tropical flavor, crisp finish, and earthy hoppy aftertaste. Coal Train Nitro Oatmeal Stout Beer 4.5% ABV 16floz Draft ($8.00): Brown red color, bread malty oatmeal aroma, light body, bready earthy oatmeal malt flavor, bitter drying finish, and bitter malty oatmeal aftertaste. Unleaded Hazy NEIPA Beer 7.0% ABV 16floz Draft ($10.00): Hazy amber color, citrusy hoppy aroma, light body, herbal hoppy flavor, crisp finish, and herbal hoppy aftertaste. My favorite of the bunch. Easy Rider IPA Beer 6.0% ABV 16floz Draft ($8.00): Hazy amber color, floral hoppy aroma, light body, citrusy fruity hoppy flavor, crisp smooth finish, and citrusy floral hoppy aftertaste. Stickers ($1.00 x3): I loved placing stickers on the walls of other breweries! Souvenir T-Shirt Baby Blue M ($25.00): Not that I needed ANOTHER t-shirt, but the logo was cool and I loved the Grateful Dead skull treatment. SERVICE I was warmly greeted by a friendly lone young man behind the bar as I made myself at home for several hours at a counter stool. It was just he and I for a while, so we chatted, as I kept ordering beers from him. Eventually, a large group from Audible came in as he managed the crowd perfectly. Once it was time for me to leave, I easily settled my tab as we each wished each other a good night. It was a chill afternoon with a cool guy - cheers! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I took a Lyft from Jersey City and never left my stool until I left, so I honestly had no idea the parking and streets situation in the area. However, it seemed like there was the possibility of street parking, but don't hold me to it. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A huge open one-floor layout with numerous brewing equipment visible on site, with numerous communal tables and stools, a small counter where I sat, and stark white walls like a hospital with some artwork hung on them. Plenty of natural lighting filtered through the large front glass doors and windows while an assortment of track and wall-mounted electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. No actual TVs but projections screened on the walls while an eclectic mix of music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I was happy to finally visit Newark Local Beer and cover all of the breweries within proximity of my friend's place. I enjoyed the variety of brews they had and I drank, and the space has so much potential. The prices were comparable, the service was amazing, and I imagined they held nightly events to bring in the crowds. And, I'm unaware whether or not pets are allowed. Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $86.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

But when I saw some of the reviews mentioning sushi and the fact that a platter was $30 where a burger was $28, it seemed like good value. Man, it was delicious! Better than market sushi for sure, like good Japanese restaurant quality. Props to the sushi chef who is clearly making the most of the situation. The bad Took over 35 mins for my order to arrive, so had approx 3 minutes to eat before boarding. The person behind me actually had to cancel their burger order (so it wasn't just the sushi taking a while) and ask for a refund because it took so long. Not clear from the iPad how to get help and who to ask to check up on your order. Concrete feature suggestion: add approx wait time to menu items. Drifting Back to Lions Roar for Sure!…read more We ended the night at Lions Roar Brewing in Westfield and what a way to cap off an evening. The service was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and on point all night. The craft beer selection had some real creativity on tap. We were disappointed to hear the mango brew had run out -- that one sounded like a winner -- but the Mexican and lime brew more than made up for it. Bright, flavorful, and refreshing, it was a great pour that kept us coming back for more. But the real showstopper of the night? Drifting Back. This four-piece band was absolutely exceptional -- tight, talented, and packed with great tunes. They had the room in the palm of their hands all night. If you ever see them on the schedule here, don't miss it. A minor gripe about the sold-out mango brew aside, this was a fantastic night out at Lions Roar. We'll absolutely be back.

The vibe was really nice, and there were so many different food trucks to choose from, so there's definitely something for everybody. I grabbed some boneless chicken from one of the trucks, and it was really good. I also got some water because apparently birthday me needed to stay hydrated The views were definitely a highlight. There are so many great photo opportunities, and the skyline views are beautiful. As a photographer, I was absolutely looking around like, "Oh, I could shoot over there... and over there..." My only real complaint was the music. Since it was Labor Day weekend, I was really expecting at least a little West Indian music, and there was none! I think having more variety in the music would have made the whole experience even better. Overall, I had a great time and would definitely come back. The food options, atmosphere, views, and photo opportunities make it a fun spot to hang out, especially when the weather is nice. Just give me a little soca next time and we're good!

This is a serious concern I am writing here regarding a staff member at Pier13Hoboken earlier…read moretoday, August 30, 2026, around 2:00 PM. My group consisted of four adults and one child. We arrived at the pier around 1:00 PM and finished eating by 2:00 PM. When we went to collect bags for our food, a staff member at the wristband booth stopped my friend because he did not have a wristband. My friend was unaware of the wristband requirement, as he had been sitting with us the entire time. Previously, another staff member had passed by our table to clear empty bowls and did not mention or inquire about the missing wristband. When my friend told the staff member at the booth that he had been sitting with us the situation escalated. The staff member became belligerent, raised his voice, and clearly became upset with my friend's explanation. The staff member explained that he hadn't seen my friend's wrist because I was blocking the view, which was why no previous warning had been given. He then loudly stated that everyone at the pier is aware that you must have a wristband. Note: My friend did hand over his ID with no issues and got his wrist band from the staff member. At that moment, I felt the staff member was becoming physically aggressive. To avoid confrontation, I advised my friend to walk away. As we did, the staff member shouted, "Yeah, you better walk away." This behavior was unprofessional, intimidating, and made us feel unsafe. We came to Pier13 expecting a welcoming environment, but instead experienced aggression from your staff. I ask that you investigate this incident and take appropriate measures to prevent such conduct in the future. I strongly believe this staff member at the booth is a danger to the people at the pier, especially elderly and children.
