Takeout #YelpsBigNightIn

#YelpsBigNightIn REVIEW: Saturday night, we picked up dinner from Novelty Burger and Bar. I placed the order through the Yelp app and it was super easy. We ordered: - Seasonal Greens Salad (large) - Mozzarella sticks - Veggie Burgers with Fries - Slow Oven Baked Crispy Wings - one order of buffalo and one order of BBQ I was craving their buffalo wings, which is what I normally get, but wanted to try out their BBQ ones (something different for Yelps Big Night In, I guess). I was a fan - not too saucy and good flavor. Also tried out the mozzarella sticks, which are huge and come with marinara sauce on the side. So, my dude is vegetarian, and it's always iffy with burger joints, but Novelty has a veggie burger that he likes - it's not a patty but a full-on portobello mushroom (he's a fan of these kind of veggie burgers more, and not a fan of impossible burger, imitation-meat type patties). The portobello mushroom is stuffed with cream cheese, which is nice against the pepperiness of the arugula greens on top and the sweetness of the soft brioche bun (plus, the tangy sauce on the side that you can add to your liking). I'm not a vegetarian, and I like the Veggie Burger. We didn't order this item yesterday but we also are a fan and occasionally will get an order of Spicy Fries to split between the two of us. Anyway, everything ordered Saturday is recommended! They also have chicken sandwich and pizza and other menu items, as well as tasty drinks (if you drink alcohol). Note: When you pick up from Novelty these days, you need to enter through the Mercato Pie doorway. Also, please wear a mask and gloves to protect yourself and the hard working staff there. Let's be safe out there and take care of each other.

Novelty Burger and Bar is right near the Prudential Center in downtown Newark. Stopped in for lunch today. Sat at the bar. I was immediately greeted in a very friendly manner. I started out with a Gingerale. To my delightful surprise, crushed ice instead of regular cubes were in my soda. Crushed ice in my drink brought back memories of how soda used to be served! Next, I checked out the menu. The menu had quite a variety of burgers. The brie burger really caught my attention. Of course, I ordered it. The burger came exactly cooked "medium" as requested. Tasty Toppings were Brie cheese, bacon and onions. I think it could've used a little bit more brie cheese. However, one can never have enough brie cheese!!! Anyway, the Brioche bun was nice and fresh. I did receive a side of french fries. The fries were pretty good but could've been a little warmer. Service throughout my meal was very good. I really enjoyed my lunch experience at Novelty Burger and Bar. Would definitely return!!!

3.5 It's a solid spot but nothing spectacular. Quick service which was important to us before a Devils game at Prudential Center. They have 5 beer bucket for $20 which was nice. Burgers were flavorful but cooking temp was not medium rare as requested. The patty was somewhere between thin and thick, neither a smash burger nor some juicy. Toppings were good but overall for $18 I expected a bit more. Staff was friendly and accommodating but they were out of napkins and ketchup on basically all the tables near us.

Angie is a new bartender and she is GREAT!! Her martinis are more than on point. In addition she brings customer service to a new level here. I hope she never leaves!!!

Burger was a normal, no fuss burger...the novelty sauce (on the side) made it extra tasty. Ordered takeout, and it came with a lot of fries!! My only complaint was the cole slaw. Probably the worst cole slaw I've ever had. Paid $1.50 for it... meh, I'll live. The restaurants are all linked together: Novelty Burger with Mercato Tomato Pie, and Noodle Shop. When I went in to pick up my order, I was sent to Mercato. Interesting. Doesn't really change my life in anyway, but interesting, nonetheless.

I have been to these burger spot twice. The first time was terrible, they had just opened and the wait staff did not seem to be trained at all. Everyone was running around looking confused, and we waited over half an hour for our food (and we were on our lunch break). The staff did not even seem to care. The owner, did, however, apologize to us. On top of that, when the order did finally come in, they gave some of us the wrong orders (they gave beef burgers to a vegetarian!). The burger itself was actually quite delicious (i got the devils burger) and juicy. However, make sure you get the double and not the single, as the single is not enough to fill you up. The second time I came back, the service had improved significantly. We did not have any of the issues that we had from the first time, and I really respect that they were able to quickly correct their operation and get to a professional level. I'll be back here, as I really enjoyed the food!

This is a cute and yummy spot in downtown Newark near the Prudential Center. We had the mozzarella sticks, Brie Burger, and California Burger. The mozzarella sticks were thick and juicy. The fries were nice and crisp. Both burgers were cooked to the appropriate temperature. Overall, it was yummy! My only complaint is that they didn't have waitresses and so we had to wait a while for drink refills because we were served by the bartenders. Also, the music was too loud.

Came here with a few friends. It was packed the day we were here and the service was a bit slow due to an event that was taking place in the area so everyone was in here to grab a bite. Our waitress was very nice but didn't get out order correctly. My friend's burger wasn't what she ordered and was missing half of her fillings. I myself ordered cheese fries but never received them. The food itself was alright. Nothing too special. The price is a bit up there for what you get. I'm not sure if I would come here again...maybe for drinks or something small.

Brie single burger with all the way fries

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and it's pretty empty. Typical for Newark. First impression upon walking in was how spacious and how nicely decorated the place is. There's a nice big bar with broadway lights style decorations, and diner style high tables. There are more regular tables in the back too. Menu has a good selection of burgers, fries, drinks, and alcoholic drinks. You can also order Mercato's menu from here, which is super convenient. Mercato's has great pizza too by the way. I ordered a Brie burger with all the way fries and my boyfriend ordered a novelty double burger. I didn't notice that burgers came with fries and when I tried to order an extra all the way fries the waiter told me he'd just upgrade my fries so it's cheaper. Great service. Someone on here commented that the single burger is small, but it definitely isn't. And I'm not a small portioned eater. The burger would be 3.5 stars, it's a tad overcooked, and the patty was not seasoned much. I personally prefer a well seasoned patty. But overall, with all the other condiments, it was a very tasty burger. The all the way fries were amazing! Definitely a must order. They have a few flat screen tvs that played shows and ESPN, so this would be a great place to watch sports while grabbing drinks at the bar. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place as a spot to hang out after work, before games at Prudential, or just when you want a burger!

Solid choice when near the Prudential Center. Great selection of beers on tap and the burgers on the menu are cooked with a sear that bring extra flavor. Just try to order it medium to medium rare otherwise it can come out on the overcooked side...

Girls' night rule #1: pick a place with a vibe. Girls' night…read morerule #2: the food better back it up. Burke's Tavern understood the assignment. None of us had been before, so we walked in blind, except not really, because the second we stepped inside the vibe hit us. Dimmed lights (but not "can't read the menu" dim), candles glowing, plants everywhere, music just loud enough to feel cool but not loud enough to ruin the gossip. Cozy. Chill. Cute. The holy trinity. It wasn't packed, so we had seating options and landed at a round table in the middle: elite positioning, honestly. Door and front windows on one side, bar view on the other. Prime people-watching real estate. Now let's discuss the important part: the food. We ordered strategically (read: everything we wanted). Lamb meatballs - 10/10. Holy crap. I don't know who is back there doing what, but please continue. Burrata pizza - absolutely delicious. Gone in record time. Gochu-Crispy-Chikin - no notes. Million Dollar Chicken - appropriately named. Fish 'N' Chips - zero complaints across the table. And that's the thing: not a single person in the group had an issue. No side-eye. No "it's good, but..." Just clean plates and happy energy. Now. Parking? Disrespectful. It's on a corner (love that), but finding parking took effort (do not love that). Would I let that stop me? Absolutely not. Parking be damned. I will circle. I will walk. I will manifest a spot. Because this place is such a vibe that it's already secured a return visit -- brunch is calling, and I need to see what this place feels like when the weather warms up. Girls' night/date night/ANY night approved.

The atmosphere and restaurant look great. It has a good vibe and the service was great. Let me tell you about the burger, not the best, they give you a slider size patty, overcooked and served on a bun that comes apart when you grab it. I'm not sure about the rest of the menu, but not a burger place. Now the chocolate cake with the raspberry ice cream--wow! This was the best part of the meal. I'm giving this place 4 stars even though I didn't like the burger because that's all I tried. I'll come back and revise this rating up/down if I come back and try other menu items. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

There was no way for me to make a reservation online so I took my chance. I was there with two other people and we were lucky to get enough to get there when we did. The place started to get packed quickly. We got a table on the top floor (there is a bottom floor). Our waitress/bartender CiCi was great. She was busy but still attentive. We got Louie Char Grilled Oysters, thai chili wings Catfish nuggets, fries and burger with fries. For drinks, we got blueberry lemon drop martini and margaritas. Both drinks were tad a bit too tart and not strong enough. Our food was delicious. Though I wish the fries were shoestrings fries and it they had a parmesean truffle option. I was pleasantly surprised!…read more What a cool spot! Located not far from Prudential Center.. came here for Wednesday night karaoke. Found street parking with no meter which was great. Smaller spot, but you don't feel like you're on top of each other. It reminded me of a Village kinda spot.. very dark interior... but a whole vibe. Bathrooms were really clean.. nice bar in the back of the space. The only reason I will give it 4 is because even though the drinks were reasonably priced, the bartender wasn't making the best drinks... you could barely tell that there was any alcohol in them.. I had to order an extra shot just to make it taste good. I think she needed some help because she seemed sorta flustered in taking care of everyone. I would definitely return!!
