Absolutely comfort food, and great if you have the munchies. However, I do think sometimes the sandwiches are dry, but definitely depends on the content of the sandwich. Overall, a nostalgic place to visit and perfect if you're out late and you are ravenous enough to eat a horse. If it's mid day and you're looking for lunch, only eat half. You will get the itis if you eat the whole thing. There is a decent amount of seating, even during the day. You can sit at a table and do your homework here if you would like. This is also conveniently located in front of Rutgers so always jam packed with students and faculty. The turnaround time for the lamb gyro I ordered was fairly quick, no more than 5 minutes. My coworkers went with a chicken parm sandwich and a chicken Cesar wrap. Pricing was decent, but the lamb lacked serious flavor had it not been for the tzatziki sauce it would have been completely bland. Coworkers mentioned the same about their sandwiches. Today was BAD. I got a Fat Vavardi and got this after waiting over an hour. The chicken fingers were somehow below Walmart's Great value quality and definitely appeared microwaved, the lettuce was brown, the Tzatziki sauce was solid chunks and inexplicably, the only mozzarella stick in the whole thing after I dissected it was half of one, which makes it even more baffling as to where was the rest of that mozzarella stick. Great location right off the campus. I was thrown off by the sign outside however because it said home of the original Fat Sandwich so I said I wonder what the fat sandwiches. I used to go to the R U Hungry on the New Brunswick campus frequently. Since I haven't had a fat sandwich in a few years, I was very excited to find out that there is now a Newark location, which is 20 minutes closer to me than NB. I ordered the fat moon and my friend ordered the fat beach. I also ordered the chocolate peanut butter shake. The food took about 10 minutes to make, which I am guessing was due to the constant influx of Uber Eats and other online orders. After getting the food, it was okay, but did not really remind me of the fat sandwiches I used to love at the other R U Hungry location in NB. The sandwich was pretty dry, and the chicken fingers were very soggy, as if they were unthawed in the microwave. I didn't think it was too bad, but I probably would prefer to travel a little further for the other location, which is the original. This location also looks a bit more run down. The chocolate peanut butter shake was a little bit above average. It just tasted like a regular shake to me. I'm not sure if it was worth the $5 but it was still satisfying. The portion of the sandwich will definitely fill you up. For $8, it's a very cheap meal and won't leave you hungry. However, like what other reviews state, the sandwiches are a bit heavy on the fries, so each time you bite into it, you don't really get to taste much of the other ingredients. Despite there being a sign on the door which states "no mask, no service", the owner of the place and his wife were walking around with no masks on behind the counter and within the waiting area. The owner also sounded like he had some phlegm in his throat when he talked, which I thought was kind of gross. The other two employees, who were the cooks, actually followed the safety measures and wore their masks. I felt a bit unsafe here while waiting for my food because of this, so if this is a concern to you, I would just order online for pickup so you can just go in and out quickly. I would highly recommend that the business follow proper precautions as we are currently in a pandemic. There are several tables outside along the side of the establishment so outdoor dining is an option here. However, the tables are a bit close together so if there are a bunch of people there all at the same time, you will definitely not be able to maintain proper distance between each other. Thankfully, no one else was in the area when we went so we were fine with it. If you want a quick bite and are craving fat sandwiches, this place will satisfy that. If you want amazing fat sandwiches though, then I'd recommend just going to the original location in New Brunswick. read more

I just had lunch with 3 of my former co-workers here today. This place was not our original plan but it was the only place opened nearby. We asked for the menu upon arriving since none of us has ever been there. It took me awhile to decide what I wanted. I tried to converse with the worker to help me decide, but he did not acknowledge me. I eventually decided on the Fat Filipino Sandwich ($7.99) and one Arizona drink (which is the main drinks they have here). My total was $9.57 after taxes. I paid with my debit card therefore this is not a "cash only" place. My co-worker asked for a takeaway box for half of her sandwich since it came in a paper bag. The staff gave her a hard time hiabout it, and in all honesty he was rude about it. He asked her why she wanted the styrofoam container. When another co-worker asked for a container as we were leaving, he asked her why she didn't want to use the paper bag. (FYI she didn't want her sandwich rolling around while driving). I can go on and on about how unwanted we felt but I'll stop here. The food itself was good, not great but good. One of my co-workers got a chicken salad that looked really good and she said it was delicious. I enjoyed my Fat Filipino sandwich. However I thought there was too much fries and not enough meat. It's supposed to have cheesesteak, gyro, chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, and fries. I didn't see or taste the gyro and the chicken was like chicken nuggets. For the most part I felt like I was eating French fries sandwich. Carbs on top of carbs. Not worth it especially I know I have to work extra hard at the gym tomorrow to make up for the extreme calories consumption. The place itself is simple. We didn't order dessert but my co-workers and I noticed how big the portion was for the cakes. Definitely worth of the price. There were plenty of seating in the back but the back was closed when we were there. There was six seating in the front area. By the way, the wonderful convenient outlets they have right next to the seats did not work. That was disappointing. Overall 2 stars for the reasonable prices good food.
