Top 101* places on yelp...no it didn't make the list, but I'm adding it anyway (it's that good)! On a long layover in Newark, at a hotel right by Penn Station I jump on google for a close place to eat. I immediately stopped on the Vietnamese restaurant with almost a perfect rating at 4.9 stars and 500+ reviews. I'm equally excited, and skeptical. NY/NJ residents aren't the easiest to win over. I walked maybe 6 min to the restaurant. It was a nice sized store front with a well lit dining room, and self and full service kiosk. I was immediately greeted by the staff, I chose to do self serve. Even with that, I still felt very welcomed and engaged once I placed my order. All the items were displayed, and looked fresh. The staff carefully put together a teriyaki salad bowl, and pho for me in about 10 minutes. Once I got the food to my hotel room, I was genuinely impressed. The Pho was so rich in flavor, without being too salty. The noodles were the perfect texture. 10/10. A few hours later after the gym I cracked open the salad bowl. This was referred to me by the staff vs the lemon grass chicken. I am glad I listened, the amount of tender juicy chicken is impressive. The crispy lettuce, and robust tomatoes were a great combination of healthy, and hearty. Bahn & Bo deserves the accolades it's earned, and the one I made up at the beginning. Pro tip: The prices are so good, and so are the portion sizes. If you are looking for fresher, lighter, healthier, skip the Chipotle and Qdobas around the corner, and come here. read more

I enjoyed the lemongrass pork banh mi (select "extra spicy") and coffee. I'm never glad to see kiosks and these were glitchier than most. Maybe it was foolish to stop by before the Nine Inch Nails shows when seats were sparse, yet a normal visit wouldn't have resulted in the awesome experience of a stranger joining our One Battle After Another discussion. I stopped by Banh & Bo before a show at nearby Prudential Center, which was a bit of a mistake because it was super busy! Happy to see their success in this area because I don't think there's any pho restaurants in the immediate area. We stayed despite the crowd, ordered on the kiosk and waited a bit for our food. Given how busy it the staff was trying their best to keep up. The place unfortunately does not have many tables but we were able to grab one. The food and bubble tea were delicious! Banh and Bo is one of my favorite local restaurants! I've been here frequently for their banh mi, pho soup, and their rice bowls with grilled pork. My husband is Vietnamese and loves the food here as well, so we're really happy to have Vietnamese food accessible to us. The ambiance is bright yellow and feels homey. The staff are attentive and friendly. Even when they are busy, the food comes out relatively quickly! And everything I've ordered so far has been so filling and delicious. My favorite order has to be their signature banh mi. The meat is so savory, and the veggies on top are crunchy and fresh. I get mine without jalapenos since I don't really like spice, and they are very kind to accommodate my order. I am not sure if the size/amount of ingredients in the $12 sandwich warrants a $3 difference compared to the other $9 sandwiches, but worth a try if you generally like the mixed cold cuts flavors. fries were good. my partner enjoyed them soft in the inside and crispy on outside. the drinks were great too. $5.25 alone for a large viet iced coffee is a deal (no sugar mod available). they dont have coca cola products. in general, the drink prices are comparable to ones in a standard boba shop but cheaper as their drinks come in large drink sizing! i would come again especially since there is a lack of viet spots in Newark. i would try their pho next time! read more

I feel like this place likely has such great ratings because they host pop-up's that incentivize leaving positive ratings. In terms of the ordering experience, it's primarily kiosk based and they have a screen that is calling out orders based on your order number. They called my number but my drink wasn't done yet which felt a little odd. As far as seating goes, if there's not an event going on, there's a few options (bar stools and tables). When there's are events going on, the space feels very small. I saw another customer pour an 8 oz water bottle into her empty cup, and it practically filled it - so servings aren't too big. I got the bbq pork banh mi, tempura brussel sprouts, mango passionfruit slush and strawberry slush. the banh mi needs to be a little bit more crispy and pork needs a little more flavor. The banh mi bread especially, was freshly made and crunchy exterior and soft interior. Come eat here before your adventures in the city. Arrived for the first time during the Baekhyun World Tour at Prudential Center and there were hundreds of people ordering. Despite that, only waited 30 mins for our food and customized drinks during such a crazy time. Staff were attentive and caught any mistakes and responded promptly. I was at a concert at the Prudential Center and if you have never been to Newark, the area around the venue gets sketchy fast once the sun sets. I was hungry and didn't want to wander too far, so we took a chance on this Vietnamese spot nearby. I honestly wasn't expecting much because you don't exactly think of Newark when you think of good Viet food. The moment I took a bite of their signature Banh Mi, that doubt disappeared. The sandwich was incredible. The bread had that perfect crunch on the outside with a soft inside and it tasted like it was baked in house. The flavors were clean and balanced and it ended up being one of the best Viet subs I have ever had. I also ordered an iced milk tea and they nailed it. Not overly sweet and very smooth.
