I have never written a Yelp review before, but my experience was so horrible at this salon that I was compelled to write. I went to the salon last Saturday to get a pedicure and a Shellac manicure. The pedicure was ok, although the woman did gouge my big toe and make me bleed. The reason for the one star rating, however, is primarily due to the horrible Shellac manicure experience I had. My manicurist was different than the woman who performed my pedicure. I do not know her name, or else I would post it here to warn anyone away from having their nails done by her. She was a young Asian woman, and had blond highlights in her hair. With regard to my nails, I had received my first Shellac manicure three weeks before (at another salon) and needed it to be removed. I was under the impression that it would be soaked off. Instead, the woman grabbed one of her tools and started ripping the Shellac off my nails....pulling at least a layer of nail with it, and ripping some of my nail tips. At that point, I informed her that I had changed my mind about getting another Shellac manicure, as I didn't want to further damage my nails. From this point on, she became incredibly rude and pushy. She told me that it wouldn't damage my nails as soon as she buffed the nails and repainted them. When I started to object, she loudly repeated what she had just said. I should have stood my ground, but decided to go ahead with the Shellac. I pointed out which color I wanted on the color sample sheets she had given me to look at. I showed her two that I wanted to see, and she told me one was better and that she would just get that one. I then changed my mind and chose another color. At this point, she was ready to begin my new manicure. At every single other manicure I have ever received, the manicurist first asked if I wanted my nails cut down and what shape I wanted them. My nails had grown fairly long due to the Shellac mani, and I wanted to keep some length. Before I knew it, and without asking me anything at all, the manicurist had cut down three of my nails, much shorter than I wanted. She then rudely asked me why I wasn't getting a French manicure and told me that a French Shellac would be better than the color I had chosen. This time I stood my ground. The manicure lasted less than 30 minutes, which I believe is pretty short, as the last Shellac I had was almost an hour. The total for the Shellac and pedicure was $59. That would not be so bad, except, in less than a week since this horrible experience, my Shellac has already started peeling on most of my nails. I will NEVER go to this salon again. read more

So far I've been here twice for mani pedi combo $35. And I've been happy twice with the my nails. Good shaping of nails and fast. Out in an hour on Sunday and Friday afternoon. My go to in DC. I made an appointment and they honored it. read more

I've been here a few times. Not the best manicure I've ever had but, since there are so few nail salons in DC, it does the job. Right near my office and has very convenient hours. I have had to wait about 20 minutes for a manicure or pedicure, so call ahead. Also, as another poster mentioned, it does smell very strongly of chemicals, which is not pleasant. Additionally, they have put the polish on too thick, causing bubbles, so make sure to tell them if you notice this. read more

I never take the time to yelp- but I have to warn anyone going to Red Sun. You may end up with a toe injury like I did. If I could give zero stars I would. I was a regular client at Red Sun for many years. There is new management and new staff, as of 3-4 months ago. The prices are super high. I had the worst pedicure I've ever had today. It was less than 20 minutes. And twice she cut my toe nail on the edge - way too much. She didn't even apologize. She lacked confidence and clearly isn't comfortable or competent at nails. And it hurts terribly now. $50 for a sub-par pedicure, with literally zero massage, an eye brow and lip wax. When I told her that wasn't a massage - she said you're only paying for the basic. She basically slapped on oil and lotion and that was it. What happened to my neighborhood spot? The old staff was awesome. It was my go-to. This place is going to be shut down it's so bad. read more

I agree with some of the others that this is one of the better pedicures I've had in DC. I didn't think it smelled at all - not sure about that comment. Everyone was really friendly, and they really seemed to care about my feet and getting them clean and looking good. The leg massage was great! I'll most definitely be coming back. read more

I can't believe how irresponsible and rude this business is. I called to make an appointment a day in advance for 9:30 AM and I told who I spoke with on the phone that I had somewhere to be at 10:30 AM. They assured me that someone would be there and wrote my name down (as it says online and on their storefront window that they open at 9:30 AM). I showed up promptly at 9:30 only to find that the doors were locked and no one was inside. It was about 25 degrees out and windy and I waited outside in the cold for 25 minutes and called them three times during that time period and NO ONE SHOWED. I left because I had to be somewhere at 10:30 and called later that afternoon to ask what happened and ask for compensation for my troubles. The person who I spoke with on the phone barely apologized and said that they were running late in traffic this morning because of construction, and very rudely dismissed me when I asked for a discount or a free manicure because of the trouble I went through. I would NEVER recommend this nail place to ANYONE in this city. It looked dingy and gross from the outside anyway. The people are rude and unprofessional. They should change their hours to 10:30 AM unless they want to keep lying to their customers. Terrible experience, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I have been going to this salon since they opened. I really wanted to like this place because the people who own or manage the salon are so nice. They are always very sweet and ask about my job and my baby. There also aren't many salons in this particular area, so it's nice to have a place near where I live. I have therefore given this place chance after chance. They sometimes do a decent manicure or pedicure. Usually they do an okay job. However, I recently tried the OPI gel manicure, and I was very disappointed with the entire experience. First of all, I had several different technicians working on my nails at different points. Second, they told me the process would take the same amount of time as a manicure, but it took much longer. (Perhaps because they kept passing me off to different technicians.) They finally finished and I was shocked to find my nails looking dull and even slightly misshapen. I asked about this, and they said that sometimes it just doesn't turn out shiny, especially with lighter colors. The reason I decided to try this gel manicure was because they showed me a woman in the salon who had just gotten a gel manicure, and her nails were very shiny. Her polish was darker, but I can't understand how sometimes they're just not shiny. For a $35 for manicure, they should look really nice (and shiny) when you walk out the door. My nails looked about as good as when I polish them myself at home, for free. I was told they might appear shinier later, after washing my hands and, if not, to come back and they would fix it. Obviously they did not look shinier later, so I did return the next morning. The owner told me they may not have been completely dry, and that when they put lotion on my hands the lotion may have adhered to the topcoat ad made them appear dull. He redid the topcoat and cured them again, and this time he used oil instead of lotion to moisturize my hands afterward. When I returned home they remained shiny for about an hour. A couple hand washings and a diaper change were apparently too much wear and tear for this $35 manicure that is supposed to look good for a couple weeks. Thus, I will not be returning. I'll travel a little further to a salon that I can rely on for great service. If you want an okay mani/pedi, go to this place. If you want gel, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. read more

I went the other day for a lunchtime mani/pedi and I had such a wonderful experience. I had no wait whatsoever and the woman doing my nails was amazing. For $35 for a Mani/Pedi, I'm a huge fan. I visited Red Sun Nails for the first time today. I am new to DC (an Arlington transplant) and my first mani/pedi in the city was a pleasant surprise. I plan to become a frequent customer. Got a great, cheap eyebrow wax here-- no frills, small room in the back of the nail salon. She did a great job (albeit my eyebrows don't require much work). It only cost $8, compared to up to $20 you can pay at hair or waxing salons around DC. Super convenient location across from the convention center/ Mt. Vernon square metro and I was in and out during lunchtime in about 10 minutes. Very happy with my experience, will check them out for nail services soon. read more

Do not go here. They are rude, charge for every minor thing that should be included in your service and overcharge. I was quoted one price before I got my nails done and charged a totally different price at the end. NEVER AGAIN!!!! read more

If I could put 0 stars I would. I am currently here at Red Sun Nails. I called at 6:50pm even though they close at 7:30pm to see if it was possible to get my nails done as well as my male coworkers nails. We arrived at 7:00pm. It is now 8:16pm, my male coworker waited 10 minutes and someone was able to take care of his nails. Me on the other hand has still not been assisted. There are 4 people total who work here that are present however only one person is doing nails. I was then told after waiting over an hour to come back tomorrow. My coworker got involved and asked if I could get a discount as she was speaking to my worker, she had one of the employees call her phone so she could walk away, which she did without saying "excuse me" to my coworker which was very rude. There are three more customers still here as we speak who have all waited from 1 hour and 30 minutes- 3 hours and they have refused to give discounts. I am staying here to get my nails done at a discounted price to prove a point and because at this time all other nails salons are closed. However I will never return or will ever recommend anyone to them. They are unprofessional and inefficient read more
