This restaurant was very nice inside and in a cute part of Providence! Super friendly staff & quick service. The drinks were very good, the strawberry spritz was a special. We got the steak frites, which are a staple, and a definite recommendation. The bolognese was also very good! The bread is sourdough. The calamari was good, however, there was not as much meat compared to the amount of peppers. The cookie pie was delicious. Definitely a must go!!
It has been a while since I had a dinner here. I am here with my friends. Great spot in Wayland Sq. Street parking is hard to find, but once inside, we were greeted with friendly staff and have us seated for our reservation. We started with some calamari and muscles. Our favorite is the classic fisherman's platter. This place has always been consistent in terms of service and food quality. This time was not exception. The atmosphere is pretty classy. A large dining area and the two bars - the main one and the smaller, more intimate one in the back. This is a place I would be happy to bring a date or my parents to have a great dinner.
We've been to Red Stripe once before for RI Food Fights #BestBurgerRI & it was my #1 burger that year. We've always wanted to go back & Providence Restaurant Week offered the perfect opportunity: $49.99 three-course dinner for two. We ordered an affordable bordeaux that paired nicely with both my steak & hubby's salmon. A little spicy with a fruity finish & a gorgeous ruby red color. You selected one of the six appetizers to share. When at Red Stripe, you gotta get the mussels! There are six different mussel options & on the recommendation of our server, we ordered the Mouclade: curry, garlic, shallots, white wine, finished with coconut milk. I need to go back to try the Poulette: parsley & chive, garlic, shallots, white wine, finished with cream. The crusty bread was perfect for dipping into the mussels broth. And yes, we drank the remaining broth from the bowl! I opted for the Steak Frites: 36-hour house-marinated 10oz grilled hanger steak topped with Chef's butter, over arugula, red onion, lemon vinaigrette & served with house frites. Everything about this dish was perfection! Steak was flavorful, frites were just the right amount of crispy outside & tender inside, surprise salad under the steak with a delicious lemon vinaigrette that cut through the richness of the meat. Hubby selected the Hot Honey Salmon: grilled salmon glazed with house-made hot honey, served with seasonal vegetables & citrus cilantro lime rice. It was a generous portion of salmon with a sweet glaze with a bit of spice. I didn't care for the seasonal veggies but the citrus in the rice was delicious. You selected one of two options for dessert: tiramisu or New York-style cheesecake. We were both pretty full by the time dessert came around so we weren't disappointed that the tiramisu was weirdly firm. I would have been much happier with a bowl of fresh strawberries & cream. Just sayin'. The food was great, server was delightful & the restaurant is gorgeous! NOM NOM NOM #YUM
The only thing keeping this from 5 stars in the SERVICE. Our waitress was slow and snarky, likely new. But WOW was the food good. As were the chefs and manager. Very kind people. Food got out FAST, even on such a busy night needing reservations. The dinner for 2 is an absolute bargain! The mussels cles in the red stripe style (we've never done a cream base before) was so perfect and delicious. We ended up asking for bread to finish it off! My lobster mac and cheese (special) was so perfect, especially with that added fry sauce from the mussels (def add fries for 2-3$) The salmons were a bit under seasoned, the non hot honey version was wayyy better. Very high quality food for fair prices, wonderful ambience. Left without leftovers
The drinks and food were very good! I had a pear cocktail that was very flavorful but not too strong. The truffle burger was very well cooked, and the huge side of truffle fries were delicious! My only complaint is that the mushroom that was on the burger was in one large piece and very chewy. I ended up taking it off of the burger, so it definitely lost a little something. My husband's schnitzel was well cooked and tasty too. The service was prompt but not overbearing at all. We waited a little long once we sat down but we were also tucked away in the corner in the back room. The drinks and food came pretty quickly. I was impressed with how reasonable the prices were too. Overall, a solid dinner option!
I had come here before but for dinner. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday for lunch and it was a very good time. Street parking was okay, there were a couple spots close by and a lot more a half to one block or so away. We made reservations just in case and I am glad we did since it did start to get busy at around 2 pm. We were seated by the large windows, which I liked since it brought in a lot of natural light despite it being a rainy day. I tried their berry mocktail and it was delicious, but I wish they had crushed the mint to bring out more of that flavor. As a starter, we shared their crispy artichokes which were flavorful and paired well with the sauce provided. As my entrée, I ordered the truffle burger with fries. The burger patty was delicious, especially the patty since you could really taste the grilled flavor. The mushroom was good, but was a bit tough, so I had to bite a little harder to avoid pulling it all out in one bite. I wish the red onion was cooked a little more for a caramelized flavor, but it was a good topping nonetheless. The arugula and tomato were fresh, and the goat cheese gave it a creamy touch. The buns were perfectly crispy. I was also really excited for the fries since they're on the thinner side, a bit oily, crunchy, wobbly, and overall, a combination of all the things fries should be. The truffle flavor was great, I wish there was more just because I love truffle, and next time I will ask for some parmesan on top. Our waiter was kind and attentive. I'm also glad this place is open on a Monday --when some places aren't.

What a delicious meal and great experience! Had dinner here on a weeknight during Restaurant Week and it was now crowded at all. The menu options on the RW menu were items available on the regular menu as well. I had the crispy artichokes, salmon, and cheesecake along with both apple and cranberry sangrias. All of the food was delicious! I would absolutely order the same dishes again, although the regular menu looks fantastic and I am definitely planning to return to try more of those menu items too! The sangrias were good, but I have had better seasonal sangrias before elsewhere. I was intrigued by some of the specialty cocktails and would probably try those next time to branch out :) read more

From the minute I walked into the Red Stripe, I was charmed by the atmosphere, the tile floors and the quaint tables sitting by the window. My friend and I were lucky enough to sit by a window, and it was the perfect little table to chat and enjoy our time there! The menu had a great variety of options. I ordered the Cobb salad with the salmon (because #protein) and the salmon was cooked perfectly! I ordered a meal to take home to my husband (the angell tortellini) and it was delish! Our server was fantastic- he was happy to help us with recommendations and knew just when to put that to go order, but wasn't pushy at all. I will definitely recommend this place to friends and will even be back! read more
Stopped by for the first time for Restaurant Weeks and I had a good meal. Good customer service; and the restaurant had a simple, neighborhood feel to it. I wasn't disappointed or blown away by the experience and the food, it was simple and good. read more

Great dinner! I came for restaurant week and ate off that menu, and everything was delicious. Caesar salad, salmon, and cheesecake. I also had a Cranberry sangria, which was also great. I thought that the regular menu looked great, and il definitely want to come back to experience more!! read more
I haven't been to Red Stripe in years, and I really thought that it was pure nostalgia that I remembered Red Stripe so fondly. We went out for date night, they seated us in a cozy little corner with moody mini lights. However, I chose to put this to the test recently and chose to go here for date night. I always order steak frites here and they really lived up to my memories! The steak was perfectly cooked, not a single fatty or unappetizing piece to be found on my plate. A lovely ball of herb butter accompanied the steak, a perfect complement. The frites were also given the right amount of attention. I've been to other places where it's like they forgot that the frites are half the meal and should be equally as good as the steak. I can promise, Red Stripe gives the frites all the attention they deserve. We closed out the meal with tiramisu which was lovely, but I might order cheesecake next time read more

Visiting Providence for the weekend and stopped in for an early dinner and drinks. Atmosphere is bar/diner-like with a terrific oldies dance playlist playing in the background. The Old Wayland Square (Vieux Carre) - boozy. Hit the spot. Deviled eggs - nice flavor. The bacon a nice bit of crunch and flavor contrast. Cobb salad - delicious. Not too heavy and a very good ratio/blend of ingredients. Prices are reasonable and the window is perfect for people-watching. Highly recommended! read more
GOOD TOMATO SOUP & GRILLED CHEESE ================================== Our group of four stopped in for lunch on Thursday, January 29, 2022. I got the basic combo and it was good. I didn't take a photo, but there are plenty on their page. My husband liked the French Dip, but the fries were horrible. The were really greasy. My brother-in-law loves their French onion soup. It looked good. Definitely pass on the buffalo cauliflower. Cute place and the prices are good. Love the Wayland Square area. read more
Had dinner with my amazing wife last Monday evening. First let me start with our waitress Kaylee. She gave us the best customer service experience in a very long time. We decided to share a Caesar salad, the calamari, and the short rib beef stroganoff. The Caesar salad was extremely fresh, and she has the cooks divide the portions onto two plates for everything. The calamari was good. I asked for a side of tartar sauce, instead of the marinara which she accommodated. And the stroganoff was heavenly creamy and decadent. After our meal, I excuse myself to go to the restroom, and I went up to the waitress and asked her about the desserts told her it was my wife's birthday week, and I chose the crème brûlée. She put a candle in it, and my wife was surprised. The crème brûlée was one of the best I've ever had. Normally, it's very busy in there and very loud, but it was pretty quiet and we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We love the ambience there. I highly recommend red stripe for food, service, and cleanliness. read more

What a great place! In town visiting a grad school with my daughter and saw that there is a Dinner for Two special here on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was so much food! But oh so good! We had the mussels Portuguese for the app - very large and tender! Then had the steak frites and the Tuscan Salmon and finished it off with sorbet. Tons of food and so tasty! read more

Been here many times over the years, and they just don't disappoint. I wish they still had the Croque Madame... so yummy. But still, the best steak frites around. I will sing their praises from the rooftops. Service is great and parking is doable. Great lunch option! read more

came here three years ago and remember the service was excellent and the mussels were tasty! came back for lunch and got the crispy artichokes and truffle burger with no bun, amazing flavors really. also great service. this place strikes me as a consistent place with new england vibes. i could tell there were a lot of regulars in for lunch and the servers knew how they liked things. i wanna see a bread service at this restaurant because it fits the vibe and also more lunch specials. would definitely come back. read more

Lots of great food! My dad enjoyed his steak frites and my grilled salmon was quite great. The big highlight was the mussels though. The broth they come in is so so good I genuinely think the best thing to order at this restaurant is just an appetizer plate of mussels and a side of bread to soak in it. Service was fine. If you're looking for classic American fare, this is the place for you. The menu has all the hits(see below). We ate outside and enjoyed a lovely early Saturday evening. Our server, Eric, was excellent. It was our first time at Red Stripe and he had plenty of great recommendations for us. I ordered a spicy margarita which was well executed, but had a little too much ice in the glass which watered it down. We shared the truffle fries to start. They were thin and crispy and had a nice aioli dipping sauce to go with them. I got the lemon rosemary half chicken, it was cooked well and came with creamy mashed potatoes. Bon appétit. Red stripe is magnificent.. it's an american take on the classic French brasserie. With its black and white tile floor, wine red walls and white table cloths it feels elegant with a relaxed vibe. Their French onion soup was perfect. The mussels were so good that I asked for bread to make sure I could enjoy the sauce to the last drop. The gentleman waiter Eric made sure we were well taking care of. He was an outstanding server. Red Strip is one of my favorite restaurants not only in Providence but the state. It's very close to my home (which is a benefit) but I was even coming here before I moved nearby. The food here has always been fantastic. Last time I was here I had the onion soup and I had this delicious stuffed lobster dish which left me very full and satisfied. The service here has always been great, never had an issue with the staff, and any issues we did have they took care of right away. read more

I really love Red Stripe's tomato soup, lobster roll, pot roast, and kitchen sink salad. The interior is the closest to a French bistro you can find on the East side, and the service is always fast. read more

I think Red Stripe is tasty, but the service on my last visit was really bad. I checked in with the hostess and she let me know some of the part was already seated and just pointed to the large dining room. I had to go back searching for my friend, for this price point of a restaurant I would expect a better experience to start. While our server was friendly I think he had too many tables and it just took forever for him to come over, then forever to take orders, etc, etc. We ended up being there way later than planned because of the wait. The food! My husband use to live right around the corner and he basically only orders the spaghetti and large meatball. He loves it! I think its pretty good, but don't necessarily love it as much as he does. We also ordered the lobster roll, they did not skimp on lobster, the sandwich was overflowing and tasty! The fries also made a great appetizer! Parking was easy since there are alot of little side streets around the restaurant! read more

After a impromptu wedding at Roger Williams park the six of us were welcomed into the beautiful warm dining room with red themes and black and white tile floor the dining room features a open kitchen that you could see was clean and tidy our waitress greeted us and after a round of Prosecco we all were ready to order our food the bacon blue burger was cooked to and frites reminded me of old school diner fires twice fried crispy on the outside soft and fluffy on the inside the short rib grilled cheese was thick and savory pairing with the tomato bisque that compliments a classic grilled cheese turned up to eleven with the amazing flavor of the slow braised short ribs red stipe is a tremendous restaurant can't wait to be back read more
Why did it take us so long to come here?! I've been on the lookout for a restaurant in Rhode Island that's similar to my beloved college haunt, Boston's The Paramount, and I think I just may have found it at Red Stripe! This unassuming and venerable Wayland Square brasserie offers a snappy menu of French and New American favorites, all at millennial-friendly prices. We visited last night for a late dinner, and even though it was midweek, the place was hopping! Luckily, the hostess was able to seat us in the main dining room, which was decked out with kitschy red vinyl booths and a cool black and white checkered tile floor that appeared vintage. The dining room is kind of dated, but it's very cozy and a wonderful refuge on a chilly fall evening. There's also a separate room which houses a full service bar and high top tables for more intimate gatherings. Service was pleasant and efficient - I wish I could remember the name of our server, because she was awesome! Don't worry, we'll definitely be back, and I will update the review to thank her again. She was great and added to the fun and friendly atmosphere! There's something for everyone on the menu, so Red Stripe is a good choice for group dining. We started off with some of their signature Mussels, prepared in French style with a light, garlicky broth. The half-order appetizer portion is only $10, and even if you share between two people, you'll barely have room for your entree! My best friend and I were stuffed after that! The soft sourdough bread served with creamy unsalted butter is perfect for sopping up any of the leftover broth. I wish the bread was served hot, though. That would have really made the starter remarkable! I also got a side Mixed Green Salad, which came with a dressing that was a bit heavy on the dijon for my taste. I think I'll swap that out for one of the other dressing options next time. I can't believe we even had room for entrees after such a generous and tasty appetizer! We both went for chicken in different preparations: I went with the Grilled Chicken Paillard and my best friend got the Roasted Half Chicken. I really enjoyed my entree, as the chicken was moist and flavorful, and the Spiced Butternut Squash side was TO DIE FOR! If you visit during the fall, you must get some! It was buttery, sweet, and comforting... I almost ordered a second portion! The Half Chicken looked good as well, but I prefer boneless chicken for ease of disshemblement on the plate. My best friend raved about the pan jus that was served alongside the chicken as well. Yum! We skipped dessert (sad trombone), but I definitely have my eye on one of their skillet cookies for when we come back! Instead, I got a hot chai tea from the extensive selection of Tazo brand teas, and it was a wonderful way to round out the meal. Bonus points for the presentation of the tea selection in a cute wooden box! The meal was actually quite affordable - totaling less than $60 for everything, and the deal of the evening was really the $10 Mussels, which you shouldn't miss out on!
