Went with a group of 6 for Girlie's birthday. We were seated on time and service was prompt and efficient. All the dishes are from about $11-$17. I ordered a hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouli platter for a table started and everything was great. I make it a point to try tabouli everywhere it is offered and this was legitimately good, prepared in a classic style. The olives that accompanied the dish were amazing, garlicky and delicious. I got the short ribs and they were all meat, served over garlic mashed and roasted veggies. Girlie had a prosciutto and pea tri-colored tortellini, and vegan friend (no a vegan friendly place) had a tofu steak. Everything was fantastic. Very happy with the meal, service and cost. Good food but stick to the basics... Steak Frites, the Moules Frites, or any typical but simple brasserie plates. This is a great place for food and/or drinks... but drinks are expensive. I was here with a group of friends for lunch. It was ok but I wasn't blown away. All I can think of is how greasy the sandwiches were. I tried half a plain grilled cheese and the pastrami and cheese sandwich and it was just so oily, ick. I don't get the hype over the grilled cheese and I'm not into thick, greasy bread. If I come back it will definitely not be for a sandwich. I liked the pesto pasta salad that came with the sandwich. The service was good. We liked our rum swizzles. The carrot cake was good but dense, definitely for 2 people. Crème brulee was the fav. The tomato soup and frites were fine. My friends liked it alright. I don't know how I haven't reviewed Red Stripe yet, but here it goes. I dig it. I wouldn't say it is my favorite place around, but I like the food at Red Stripe and the service isn't overly amazing, but it's good. The moules and frittes are pretty fantastic. I would highly recommend them if you go. I had the Portuguese Moules and holy cow, they are absolutely incredible. The chorizo is spicy and a perfect accompaniment with the mussels. The second time I went I got the filet without the bearnaise sauce. Not a fan of creme based sauces. The steak was perfectly cooked and oh so juicy. The grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes that accompanied the steak were mouth-wateringly tasty as well. The beer I had this evening was the Long Trail Double Bag, which was a great match to the steak. The third time I ate at Red Stripe was for lunch. I had the grilled cheese and roasted tomato soup. I thought it was good but still a little pricey for what it was (very buttery white bread and white cheese which I think was American, but can't be too sure). My hubby's pulled pork sandwich and fries were pretty damn good. I stole a little pork and put it on my grilled cheese which made it ten times better. The tomato soup was nice and creamy and perfectly seasoned. Adding some of their coarse ground pepper spiced it up nicely. Our water glasses were kept full, which makes me happy. I don't like being ignored just because I didn't order an expensive beverage. I booked the second two culinary experiences on Open Table, which was great because we managed to get a nice window table every time. This makes for great people watching on Angell. Like I said before, the service was always good, but they don't make you feel particularly special. I guess when I'm paying "white linen tablecloth" prices I want to be wowed. Especially when I'm paying ten bucks for a grilled cheese and soup. So I would say that if there were half stars on Yelp, they would be more of a three and a half star type establishment, but because I've never had a bad meal I'll bump it up to four. read more

I'm not really sure I understand the hoopla of this joint... There is always a crazy ton of people dining here. I see rave reviews on Yelp and it's not too far from my home. So, I decided to give it a shot.. I ordered the Onion Soup to start. When it arrived it was HUGE. Definitely much larger than I expected. It was heavier than most Onion Soups I have tried are and I ordered it sans crouton and cheese on top hoping for a lighter option. The broth had more of a stew kind of texture and wasn't my most favorite of all time. I ordered the Middle Eastern Wrap for my entrée. The veggies were drowned in sauce to the point where I couldn't even taste them. I didn't see any tabbouleh in the wrap and the green beans which were in there were very sour maybe they were pickled? I don't know, but I'll be honest if I wasn't so hungry I wouldn't have eaten it. I ended up taking the inside of the wrap and combining it with my salad to reduce the dressing to veggie ratio and it made it tolerable. WHY is this place so popular??!?!?!?? read more

I am a fan of Red Stripe and here's why: French Onion Soup. OH, am I a sucker for a delicious hearty crock of french onion soup, and Red Stripe knows just what I'm talkin' about! Spiced up just right the broth is delicious, and the crock comes with a nice thick coating of melty cheese goodness. Now, if you are at Red Stripe and don't want to leave with a mouth full of onion breath you can always try Dads BLT with thick crispy bacon (yum!) or the chicken sandwich they have is much lighter and nice and fresh. The frites. So many have commented, so I feel it my duty to say my peace as well. Potatoes come in many shapes and sizes. Red Stripe's fries are tiny frites. Sometimes they are a bit saltier than others. Some are crispier. Sometimes some are burned. They are fries. Love em or leave em. read more

On the decline. We love this restaurant and have been many times. But the 3 stars is based on our last visit. Our server Bear was fantastic. But one meal, a salad lagged 15 minutes behind. Also they have changed the moules to larger ones which suck. They also have little crabs in them. We will still go back but just a heads up on mussels. They are gross and are one of the featured menu items which is disappointing. read more

It is Providence Restaurant week and tonight I went to Red Stripe. I sat at the bar and the bar tender gave me the regular menu as well as the Restaurant Week menu. I ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and chose the Baked Stuffed Shrimp for the entree. Both myself and the bartender were shocked to see the Baked Stuffed Shrimp served in a disposable aluminum pie plate! It looked like something that would be served at a clam shack and not at Red Stripe. It was even difficult to cut the shrimp since the aluminum pie plate was so flimsy! The bartender expressed my disappointment to the manager, but the manager said that that was the way that Corporate wanted it served. I hope that Corporate reads this review! An entree like Baked Stuffed Shrimp needs to be served in a ceramic dish. The dish had a nice taste, but rates a zero on presentation! read more

Red Stripe is a great little eating spot in Wayland Square. It's small inside, but the layout of the place makes it feel larger than it is. They have an open kitchen so you can see the food prep and cooking. The wait staff are a little too stuffy if you ask me. Don't get me wrong, they're nice but I think the management makes them act a little too formal for the type of food and atmosphere Red Stripe has. Speaking of the food: it was delicious! I had the sesame-encrusted tuna and my husband had a Red Devil Pasta. Both of our meals tasted fantastic but we both agreed they were a little over priced. Red Stripe serves a delicious bread with every meal and I swear, you will eat the entire basket and probably ask for more! I would recommend Red Stripe to those individuals who are looking to get a bite after work or just wanting a casual meal. The atmosphere in Red Stripe is a little loud for my taste and I don't think I'd want to bring a group here or a special date. read more

Red Stripe, you confuse me. Your decor is cute and bistro-esque, but then I look at the bar and see a tree made of Red Stripe Beer bottles leading me to think this is a laid back party joint (which it is not). The food is good, but expensive for what it is. The lunch menu's prices are a little easier to swallow (pun, intended). I've been here twice: mid-week for a business lunch and mid-afternoon on a weekend in hopes of finding some brunch/lunch fare. I had heard the Red Stripe Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup was the item to have, and it did not disappoint. Loved the addition of the prosciutto and pear on this classic comfort sandwich. I also ate this meal on a cold and windy winter day so its enjoyment factor was increased significantly for this reason alone. More recently I opted for a Crab Cake sandwich with a side of pasta salad. The pasta salad was in an unexpected but welcome pesto sauce. The sandwich had a hefty portion of crab and I eventually ditched the bun (and pre-shredded lettuce and sad pink tomato slice) to focus my attention more solely on that. The jalapeno tartar sauce was a nice compliment -- not too spicy and more creamy than I had expected. Split some truffle fries (excuse me, frites) which were good but nothing stellar. Friend was in more of a brunch mood and opted for the Croque Madam which we agreed was overwhelmingly salty. Highlights of the meal were the delicious bloody mary's and close proximity to other diners which provided endless entertainment and eavesdropping potential. read more

Red Stripe's nice bistro atmosphere makes it a good place for lunch, especially a business lunch. And the moules frites are delicious -- the eponymous version of this dish is a great choice (I feel like the bacon-y version is gilding the lily, for example) and the only meal I would need to eat all day, between the generous portion of steamers, fries, and yummy yummy broth. Ask for bread to soak it up with (n.b., it would be great if our waitress had asked if we wanted bread when my dining companions ordered this dish). So why not four stars? Red Stripe is a busy place but the service can be very slow. I took two friends there at 1 p.m. for lunch recently and the expediting of our food was totally off. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a green salad and they each got moules frites. Their mussels arrived and then....nothing else came. For a long time. FINALLY my sandwich showed up and I asked our waitress about the fries for mis amigos, which she said would be right out. 5 minutes later, there they were. It all tasted good, and I guess we knew they were serving us things just as they came out, but this could and should have been done more smoothly. The side salad with my dish was delicious, if heavily dressed, and I would eat it as a main next time. The sandwich was meh, the crab cakes tasted good but didn't have much structure/crispiness and I couldn't see a trace of the jalapeno tartar sauce I had been excited about in the menu description. This is our go-to place when we can't think of where to have dinner. It really has something for everyone. Great drink selections. Favorite foods include moules and frites, grilled cheese with tomato soup, salads in general, burgers are good too. I haven't been in months and plan on stopping by soon to see if there is anything new on the menu. Staff is excellent and knowledgeable. Always busy which creates a nice alive ambiance. I go to this place when I want to feel like I am dining in a big city. Great location in Wayland Sq. with a lot of cute boutiques and coffee shops. Red stripe is my neighbor and they treat my family as such. My kids come with us for early bird family dinners and they are in no means your model patrons (1 year old and 3 year old). One of them runs around the restaurant waving at other guests while nearly tripping waitresses (and yes we chase her down but she's hard to keep in one place), the other draws pictures on their linens (yes, we told her not to but the waitress said it was ok because the laundry service gets all the stains out). So as you can see, the staff is so overly accommodating it just makes it easy to come back over and over. My all time favorite is the everything but the kitchen sink salad (and I don't even like vegetables). Their meatballs and mussels are also a must-try. Since moving away from Providence, I have made several trips back all based around dining at Red Stripe. I love the lively and warm atmosphere of this brasserie! Their grilled cheese with cup of tomato soup is my all time favorite. A gourmet grilled cheese, does it get any better than that? Their delicious salads come in a huge wooden bowl - enough to feed a family. My boyfriend always gets their specialty, moules et frites. Sometimes the hostesses and waitstaff appear harried, probably due to the big crowds that fill the restaurants at dinner rush. It has never bothered me enough to stop eating at Red Stripe. I love the atmosphere & the food! UPDATE: I just found out that the tomato is soup is not vegetarian friendly! How disgusting! Why would a tomato soup need a chicken broth base! Sick to my stomach - deducting one star because of the insensitive way they broke the news to me. That leaves the tofu steak, kitchen sink salad, and grilled cheese without ham as my options at Red Stripe. Down one from original four. read more

I've never had bad food at Red Stripe, in fact, it has been consistently good just never amazing. In reading a lot of the other reviews on Yelp, people keep gushing about their beer selection, which baffles me. Sure, I've only been there twice, but every time I've asked what the beers are, they are a decidedly mediocre lot, and both times I've picked Sam Adams [note: when I pick San Adams, it's because my other choices were very poor]. So I don't know if my server just never knows what's on tap, or if I don't seem sophisticated enough to offer the "good" beer to. I guess I'll have to do more sleuthing. First thing to know about Red Stripe: It's damn loud. Tin ceiling, tile floor, no sound absorption whatsoever. Plus, they seem to cram a ton of tables onto the floor, so you're shouting to be heard over the diners next to you. I'm always happy to go there because I remember that the food is good and reasonably priced, but I always leave feeling jangled and with a sore throat. It's like dining in a High School gymnasium. Honestly, if they pulled four tables off the floor and put some thick drapes on the walls, it would be a lovely place. At least they don't play music, maybe they do, but I've never heard it, As a vegetarian, it's always nice to find a place that actually has more than one vegetarian entree, but everyone else in the world raves about the mussels. While I do not care for mussels, I will say, you do get a lot of them at Red Stripe. And whenever I'm dining with someone who gets the mussels, he or she is usually sighing heavily and totally blissed out. I can say, I had the tomato soup for the first time last week, and I can't stop thinking about it. I'll try to sit outside next time. read more

Delicious! We showed up for an early Saturday night dinner, and there was no wait. For a restaurant that is named after a beer, I expected a lot grungier, but I was pleasantly surprised. The interior had a nice "French bistro meets Bennigan's" feel. We got complimentary fresh warm sourdough bread with whipped butter. Perfect, also because I was starving. And we got refills! Food that we ordered: Moules (mariniere) & frites - the sauce was amazing, so rich, and perfect for dipping the bread. Clam chowder with bacon and corn - good. This place takes me to a very happy place..... Everything about it just makes me smile. I love the atmosphere, the food, the staff, everything! I have never had a bad meal here (and I have had a lot of meals here cause I live around the corner). Some of my favorites are the Red Stripe mussels, grilled chicken sandwich, and the pizza. They also have a great bar and a really nice wine list! It tends to me a little noisy but that is just because it is always busy! I will admit, I was a bit worried headed here for dinner. I loved the restaurant back in my college years, but I was worried that my tastebuds had graduated from frat life and that Red Stripe wouldn't be as good as I remembered. I am relieved to write that Red Stripe was just as delicious as I remembered it being 10 years ago. Service was attentive, friendly, and played along with our ridiculous banter and commentary. Our martinis were strong and plentiful. The food was equally awesome - ordered several varieties of mussels and the tomato soup and grilled cheese. We were also pleasantly surprised by the price point; my benchmark may be skewed (I live in LA), but the quality and quantity of food and drink we were served matched a far higher price tag than we actually had to pay. The good: amazing selection of mussels and their fries (a must get with their white gravy sauce) are always a go to for me when there. The space is lively, a real bustling bistro feel and for the most part they are able to handle the crowds and pace. Their portions are super friendly, so expect to doggy bag which is never a bad thing in my book when the food is good and not making up for it's quality in quantity. Here you happen to get both. The bad: the servers while nice enough are bogged down with tables, and it'll require some more patience to order, get refills or get the check or dessert. I usually reach out to a back waiter to get some water or anything I need and if they can't fulfill your requests then they'll find your server for you. If you happen to sit in the room on the left, you'll have to deal with the bartender as your server, which will add to your wait time. Even though service is not as great at peak times, the food always comes out hot and it's never a terrible wait that I don't feel like going back in the future. All in all it's a good find in the prov area, and away from downtown or typical federal hill. Give it a try but hold some extra patience and eat the complimentary bread if going on peak weekend times! read more

I did not thoroughly enjoy my last experience at Red Stripe, although I will concede that this is a consistently solid meat-and-potatoes restaurant. Too bad the potatoes were cold and the meat was unimpressive during my last visit. I brought my grandmother here during her trip to New England. She's a picky woman who can't enjoy anything that deviates too far from traditional, so this place came to mind. Like many Providence restaurants I have been to, Red Stripe always delivers on-point service and proof they work hard to please in the kitchen. In my previous three or four meals here, I determined that although my palate perhaps enjoys something a bit more adventurous or international, Red Stripe does what they focus to do really well: traditional, American dishes with a twist. I love the ambiance that the restaurant sets. It's very warm and clean inside with a modern touch. In the past, I have ordered the beer-braised short ribs. This time, I mixed it up with the Meat & Potatoes (their take on meatloaf with a circular hash brown underneath and a moat of onion au jus gravy). Hands down, the onion gravy was my favorite aspect of the dish. Delicious and savory! The meatloaf was alright: not a great texture for eating, but I didn't hate it. Unfortunately, the middle of my potato was cold and I wasn't able to finish it. Normally, I would ask the waiter to help get the issue fixed, but I had already eaten everything on top before I noticed the issue. I just left the potato, a bit disappointed. I will probably come here again, as its a favorite of my family, and I doubt my dismal experience will repeat itself. When my husband and I first met in 2005, we used to go to Red Stripe all the time! Red Stripe is a funky but sleek bistro (or as its website states, "a brasserie with an edge") here in Providence, only minutes away from where I live, known for its unique French twist on traditional American comfort food. Our good friends told my husband and I to pick our dinner spot last Saturday night, and we racked our brains for a full hour before we remembered we hadn't gone to Red Stripe at least in over a year! Funny how a place you used to go to all of the time can fall off the radar for a while. But, I can confidently state now it's back into the rotation! Our experience was so fantastic, from food to service, that my husband and I vowed not to ever forget about it again! We entered through its not-so-attractive back entrance, so I could only snap a pic of that, but trust me, the front entrance is adorable, complete with a gigantic fork perched on the front of the building! We just happened to enter on its ugly side, which leads into a parking lot. We had made a reservation for 8:15 on Opentable and were seated right away. I didn't take any pics of the interior, but Red Stripe is really decorated well. The kitchen is exposed, so diners can see all the action first-hand, which is a great feature that is often hard to find in Rhode Island restaurants. Though the restaurant doesn't have a tropical theme at all, it does have a pretty cool piece of art composed entirely of empty Red Stripe beer bottles! My only complaint about the restaurant itself and its interior is it has terrible acoustics. It's really loud in there, and often I had trouble hearing our waiter, who was a gem. Red Stripe serves the best warm sourdough bread with whipped butter, but as my gluten-freeness would have it, I refrained. Back in the day, that bread was my favorite thing about Red Stripe! My friends, husband, and I decided to skip the apps and zero right in on our meals. As usual, I did some "Ami ordering," which essentially means mixing and matching menu offerings to craft a good meal suitable to my vegan and gluten-free ways. I ordered their beet salad, composed of poached pears, spiced walnuts, watercress, and beets of course, with a bleu-cheese dressing. I asked that they swap the dressing for another one I saw on the menu that was a shallot-dijon vinaigrette. I also asked for a side of these amazing pickled veggies that I have tried before and are usually found in their kitchen sink salad (which also is a great salad full of veggies and chickpeas). The waiter didn't even blink an eye with all these requests! The salad was so incredible! Beets, pears, nuts, red onions and a flavorful dressing- you really can't go wrong with that combo. Oh, and the watercress was a nice change from the usual restaurant lettuces and offered a zippy, peppery bite. I also ordered a basket of their "frites" aka fries, served with an aoli that I abandoned in favor of ketchup. Their frites are pretty famous here in Providence- they are simple, but outstanding! The pickled veggie of the day must have been cauliflower, as I was given a bunch of florets. I was hoping for a mix of pickled veggies, but the cauliflower served me just fine. The veggies seemed to be pickled in some kind of curry brine, which is why they were so delicious to me! I devoured every last bite of this meal, save one cauliflower floret I was too full to eat! My dining companions, who ordered everything from French onion soup to sweet potato latkes to steak to tuna and to burgers also all cleaned their plates. Red Stripe really never disappoints- the food is solid comfort food but with just the right twist to make it seem a little fancy and unique. Great for vegetarians, and quite suitable for vegans willing to do a little work, Red Stripe has certainly "earned its stripes" in my book! (OK that was lame but I couldn't help it!). read more

Red Strip Grilled Cheese and Roasted Tomato Soup...omg...for a lactose intolerant foodie like myself, I was convinced by the staff to try it out. And it was totally worth it! The combination between the tangy, yet complicated nature of the tomato soup mixed with the soft, yet mature taste of the grilled cheese was ecstatic. My husband and I have been here many times during the past four years to visit our college son. The most recent last week. We always have a fun time. It is very loud, (but good), I would suggest eating somewhere else if you want to have a conversation. But, it has the look of a quintessential brasserie, great vibe, upscale people having a good time. Worth eating here. Everybody has always been very pleasant and accommodating. My only problem why I couldn't give it 5 stars, and it has been consistent, is the service. The wait staff understands gluten free which is very good. But at some point at every visit they disappear during the meal. It may be after the appetizers are delivered and you would like another drink , or during he meal and you might want another wine, or after the meal and you were thinking coffee or dessert. It is always at a different point in the meal, but it will happen. We always start with the moles & frites. The moles have always been very good. Last week our frites were pieces and not the long piece. It was like the bottom of the potato chip bag with the broken pieces, They should not have been served. Our son just ordered frites and his were fine. We all ordered short ribs and mashed potatoes, that were very good. The brussels sprouts would have been better as a side instead of mixed with the potatoes. I would recommend for a first visit the burgers. I have not had one because they are not gluten free, but I have heard and seen how good they are. So envious! All in all, our son graduates this May and probably that will be our last visit which will be sad. We wish we could take Red Strip to Kalamazoo, we would be a regular. We also have had lunch there. Went here on late Sunday afternoon. So here is the deal, brunch is served until 300pm and they don't start serving dinner until five. And not knowing this it was a little weird. They have kind of in between menu. So we waited and the did get us dinner a little early which was nice. We ordered the calamari, it was excellent and I had my favorite chicken parm. It's good that this is a written review and not a spoken review because it's so goddamn loud in there, the review would sound like this- Really gr.... loud....fries...cock...that had.... and Tequila and ....nice server...with Fontina! Here's what you missed- Great food, way better than average servers, great bartenders, and presentable cooks that look like they wash their hands. No hiding with an open kitchen. Grilled pizza was pretty good. Most things we had were specials, so I won't make any recommendations. Tips: Some portions can be surprisingly unpredictable. You can end up with too much food on the table as we discovered. Reservations! or be there early on popular days. Or get stuck in the back with crying f'in babies. Try the house cocktails! The ONLY reason Red Stripe gets 4 stars is because of how loud it is. Otherwise, 5 stars for sure. High ceilings and tiled floors = barely being able to hear the person across the table. Anyway, the service and food are great!!! The assortment of mussel dishes leaves us playing rock, paper, scissors every time. My guy is still raving about the Portuguese fisherman's stew. The server told us it used to be a special but people loved it so much they put it on the menu. Omg, the lamb Shepard's pie is TO DIE FOR!!!! The server warned us that there wasn't much lamb compared to potato and peas & carrots (which, btw, were fresh) but it was still plenty for the dish- he was right. It melts in your mouth and it's hard to stop eating it without making yourself sick. But, a reason for leftovers (thanks to our awesome server, Dana) is to fry it up as a hash the next morning. We had a little bit left to try and it was INCREDIBLE! We just got goose bumps remembering it! LOL Steak and Frites is a must- the meat is always cooked to your liking. For those of us who like our restaurants crowded and cacophonous, Red Stripe can't be beat. The wine list is very yummy and reasonably priced (and with a decent pour), the mussels will make your taste buds quiver, and the cheese rigatoni will send you to the gym for five hours of extreme cardio. The chopped salad is enormous and features everything that you could possible want in a salad - including a slightly curried cauliflower. Mmmmmm.... Yes, the food is good and not outrageously priced (if you limit your intake - which can be difficult), but half of the love affair with Red Stripe is the decor and accessories - black and white floors with warm wood and brass fittings and some of the most attractive folks you'll ever see (maybe they import them from another city?) Eat, drink, and engage in loud, riotous conversations - you won't regret it at all. read more

This is a neighborhood place for me, and I'd be a regular if not for the front of the house staff. I've walked out twice without being seated because the front of the house staff has made it perfectly clear that they are completely indifferent to additional business. The last time my guest and I waited while the hostess left her station, leaving three separate parties unattended in an exceedingly cramped "waiting area" for minutes. This was a mature woman, not one of the younger hostesses. Seriously? I don't need to be mistreated before I spend $125 on dinner. That evening, we opted to leave for a more inviting restaurant on Hope Street. That said the food at Red Stripe is consistent and good. They wait staff is generally attentive and very professional (if, of course, you can get by the hostess). We've had wonderful Red Stripe dinners that included mussels, steaks and salmon. One item that I would cite as a disappointment is the Hummus, Tabbouleh, and Babaganoush appetizer platter. read more

Red Stripe is an awesome restaurant. And part of what makes it awesome are the people that work there. If you are sitting at the bar, ask for Amanda. She makes the best drinks, gives the best reviews, and doesn't rush you out the door. If you are sitting at a table, ask for Vanessa. She is professional and personable, and will provide the perfect balance of attentiveness and privacy - just what you want in a great server. The food is just amazing, from the multiple varieties of mussels to the Red Stripe Grilled Cheese (served with tomato soup and a WONDERFUL way to spend a Fall afternoon), everything is top quality and served promptly. A solid choice on the East Side for good comfort food that isn't too pricey with a varied and large menu selection. Their well-known mussels and frites are a favorite of mine to split with a group as an app so you can try them out but also have the chance to order an entree (get extra bread to dip!). I recommend making a reservation to avoid a wait. The last time I dined here, I ordered the beef stroganoff which could've used a lot more seasoning. I also tried my friends risotto which had the same problem. However, that is the only time out of the many times I've frequented Red Stripe I had that compliant, so I'm going to chalk it up to a fluke! This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend so I had to check it out. I just landed, I was hungry and I still had to drive to the Cape but I definitely needed fuel for my body so Red Stripe it was. I liked that it was a casual dining spot because I was in "travel clothes" but the food was way above casual. They had a great selection of meal options. I had their New England Clam Chowder which wasn't the typical white cream base BUT OMG delicious. I highly recommend it. For my main dish I had the seared sea scallops with risotto. Scallops were perfectly cooked and so was the risotto. I enjoyed my meal immensely and I look forward to visiting this Red Stripe on my next trip up North! I must point out as well great service from the hostess to my server! My only downside was parking, there wasn't a designated parking lot but I heard this is an issue in Providence not just this restaurant. read more

I was visiting Providence a few weeks ago and heard great things about The Red Stripe's mussels, so I was ambitious to explore the rest of their menu. In addition to their phenomenal menu, the service was absolutely fantastic. my server, Sarah, was very meticulous and outgoing. She recommended the bolognese with an addition of the meatball and it really added a lot to the meal. Not only was she very attentive but her personality made the experience overall wonderful! Red Stripe is good. Maybe even great. But there are a few things that bother me and make me think the interior might not be so well thought out. First, the good things: -Excellent service all around. From the hostess to the waiters, they are always prompt, attentive, polite, and efficient. -Great food, great lunch, at great prices. -LOVE the balsamic grilled chicken sandwich. -Almost obscene amount of fries. It's like they dare me to try to eat them all, which would in fact explain why I do. -Nice bar. The BAD: -Tile floors and tin ceiling. REALLY? SO loud inside, it's almost a joke. You can't hear the person next to you, never yet across from you. -I had a really bad takeout experience. When I got there it was like they had never heard of anything so ridiculous as taking food out of the restaurant (after placing the takeout order over the phone). They clearly made the order to be eaten there, and I saw them scramble to find containers. After it sat there for 5 minutes waiting for a waiter to take it. I got all the way home, and on the balsamic marinated grilled chicken sandwich, there was no balsamic marinade. Or olives. Or toasted bread. They literally gave me dry chicken in bread. It was really gross, and I was just too lazy to go back after this 45 minute affair. Their special grilled cheese with tomato soup is incredible. So many options for mussels! I love all of their apps too- they have daily specials for their taco appetizer, which is a favorite of mine too. Their truffle burger with truffle fries is also perfection. Oh- and their everything but the kitchen sink salad is sooo good, and also huge! Every Wednesday kids eat off the kid menu for $1! Can't beat that. It is also loud in there, which can be a good thing when you go with kids, but also not so great if you go with someone who is hard of hearing. The food was so slow we were famished. The waitress had stopped coming to our table. Tracked down once she replied you're next. When I found her next she wouldn't let me speak for awhile. I tolerated her pouring ice water on me, she could give me a chance to speak. When I finally got a word in edgewise I asked why we didn't at least get bread as every other table had.
