"I am not a huge steak or red meat person but for once it sounded good so I ordered the Wood-Grilled Peppercorn Sirloin and shrimp. The shrimp was amazing and had a nice char on one side to give it a little bit of texture. The mashed potatoes are still my favorite, because they don't mash it all of the way through so you are left with a few chunks in it here and there. Although the potatoes were seasoned perfectly, the broccoli was not seasoned at all. I had ordered my steak cooked medium, because I like my steak with just a hint of pink in the middle, but fully cooked through. It's a good thing that I was in no mood to send anything back. My steak 3/4 of the way through, minus the edges, was mooing still. It was a dark pink, on the verge of purple on the inside. I guess next time I will have to order it medium well, or just order chicken like I normally do." We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.

Unfortunately tonight I didn't get here early enough so I sat out by the bar, which is absolutely fine. I started with a French onion soup, which I normally do when I'm here, tonight it was a little less oniony than it usually is, but that just could simply be a function of whoever was ladling it up. It's still absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the chicken piccata with a baked potato and steamed green beans. The steamed green beans are a staple while there are a variety of other sides, such as onion rings or Alfredo, etc. I was a little disappointed in the piccata this time. It was less lemony and more oily than I remember. The lemon wedge helped, but I don't think that piccata would have to need additional lemon to the sauce. The green beans also a little heavy on the butter as was the baked potato. I don't want to say that the meal wasn't flavorful, because it was and my server while really busy was an absolute gem, only that it was a little heavy with the melted butter. After many excellent experiences here, this won't turn me off to coming back again and trying something else. Especially if I can get a table in the back!

We rarely sit outside but this patio beckoned and we were helpless to resist. There's even outdoor seating available if you arrive before the restaurant is open! Silas brought us menus and took drink orders right away. We enjoyed the season's first shandies while exploring the menu. His attention was perfect and we shared some laughs each time he returned to our table. Neither one of us wanted to share (I guess) so we each ordered our own appetizers. I can never get enough smoked whitefish spread... until it's ALL MINE! I enjoyed every bite and would do it again. Patrick ordered the walleye strips and he did offer me a bite (generous devil that he is). They were perfectly crisp without being heavy or greasy. If I had known that... nah, I'd still get the whitefish. We'll be back to visit The Portside and try more menu items. Who knows, maybe we'll split something next time?

It was our first dinner spot on the trip (plus a few repeats) since then. The service is always great, food is always hot, and the kitchen/restaurant is always clean. The dishes are made differently from other restaurants with an influence from southern Italy where the owners Grandmother was from. The baked pasta is a mix of savory, well seasoned, and yummy pasta and a hot dish. Perfect for after a ski trip or rainy day. I am also a fan of the antipasto salad. The place was comfortable and there were lots of people there-made for a fun atmosphere. What was discouraging was the food. Granted, we got there a little after 8 PM and we knew it closed at 9 PM. We were sure to order quickly and we had the muffaleta quarter, the half pound of shrimp boil (mkt price), hush puppies, a side of beans and rice and two bowls of seafood bisque. We also had lemonade, beer and hurricanes. The drinks were all really good! Unfortunately all the food was sub par. Shrimp Boil: a half pound was about 6-7 shrimp and they were clearly overcooked. Like I'm pretty shocked they sent it out like that. Dry and rubbery and that's one of your Mkt Price items. Side of corn for the shrimp: my daughter found a hair in it that was pretty deeply buried in there. She didn't try it after that. Hush Puppies: dry and while the sauces helped, we shouldn't need to cover something in sauce to make it appetizing. Muffaleta Quarter: it was pretty mushy and didn't have a lot of flavor to it-my subjective opinion. I love muffaletas, so this one hit hard for me. It was almost like there was too much meat and not enough olive tapenade (I think that's what it is?) Seafood bisque: there were no bits of seafood in there. I was really surprised by this. Beans and Rice: it looked like it was sitting out for a long time and was bland and a little crusty. I try hard not to write a negative review without some pretty objective facts, and we let the waitress (who was very apologetic and helpful) know about our concerns. She took the shrimp, beans and rice and the corn off the bill. With regards to the seafood bisque, when I asked if there should be seafood in it, she let me know that they blend up the seafood in the bisque, so there are no chunks of visible seafood. This just made the soup taste like there was nothing in it. I don't think I've ever had a bowl of seafood bisque without visible chunks of seafood in it. I'm really surprised that they would advertise and serve it like this. Maybe it's just me, but I would expect to see and taste seafood in it. I was really hoping for more and I hope this was just a fluke. I was going to stop by there for their brunch over this weekend, but I'm unlikely to give this another chance. I spent $94 plus tip for 3 of us and we didn't take any of it home.
