Wife and I stopped in tonight. Used to be a local favorite. Wow things have changed. 10.00 for a salad. Fine comes with a garlic bread. 13.00 for a small lasagna. Fine comes with a garlic bread. Oh wait. Nope one bread for both. Salad was so bland. Lasagna was okay, not what it used to be. I would have said something, however some things are not worth it. Will not be back and not going to recommend to business colleagues.

There is a large parking lot on the side of the building. We walked in around 5 on a Friday and it was immediate seating. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu, and honest with her favorites along with details why. The lighting is very relaxing and the seating is well spread out. It give the classic Italian restaurant vibes. The restaurant filled up quickly after we ordered. The garlic bread was exactly what I hoped for. Very buttery on the outside, well seasoned, and a very light dense bread beneath the toasted outside. The soup was well seasoned, a pinch on the salty side, but not much body to the soup. The sautéed mushrooms had a lot of flavor and paired well with my meal. The Sicilian steak was not much different than a traditional filet. I did ask for rare cooked, and it was more medium- medium well. *not pictured- spinach artichoke dip. It was delicious because it was not runny, seemed very fresh and was served with bread.

Came for an early dinner one afternoon when it was not busy at all. We were immediately seated and service was very quick, friendly, and helpful. Atmosphere is very typical of an American-Italian restaurant. However, if you are looking for good Italian food- this is not the place. While all dishes were hot, fresh, and adequate portioned- everything was flavorless. There was nothing authentic about this Italian restaurant. The garlic bread was decent. Pizza puffs were also not bad. Bruschetta was average for an American bruschetta... Pasta Milano had so much potential and sounded so good but was totally bland. Also ordered the chicken parm and didn't even bother to take a picture. It was just sad. Overcooked pasta with a breaded chicken patty on top. It was almost school cafeteria level. Overall, we were very disappointed.

Sipping a red while waiting for a table!

Out of towner, but always on the hunt for great eats where the locals go. Two different friends recommended Casa, and later I saw a wall sign in an NMU building. So that had to be the universe sending me straight to some good Marquette eats. Thank you, universe! Casa didn't disappoint. It was a Saturday night, and NMU's football and hockey teams both hosted big rivals. We did have to wait about thirty minutes for our table. Add in the pandemic related shortages of staff (be nice to your servers!), and that meant another twenty minutes of waiting after we'd been seated. It happens. Fortunately Casa's got a great bar where we rode out our first wait over glasses of Lambrusco and college football on the big screens. We'd already studied the menu by the time we reached our table. Ordered tenderloin tips as well as the ribeye, both medium rare (because why else?!). Steaks were cooked perfectly and seasoned with a mouth watering Italian blend that I'm sure they won't reveal. Only thing was, my ribeye wasn't as marbled or "melt in your mouth" like most ribeyes I've ever had. The cut was tougher than a marbled ribeye, more like a sirloin. But our server insisted it was ribeye, and it still tasted great. I did enjoy it. We also added some pasta sides, and these were tasty. But the star of the show is Casa's GARLIC BREAD. This stuff'll downright bring a tear to your eye. Order the regular and add a side of marinara sauce for dipping. (We did try the mozzarella covered variety, but we loved the regular more--don't mess with the original!) We gobbled up the pieces that came with our entrees and ordered MORE. Mmm. Split another bottle of Lambrusco and called it a meal. We left stuffed and satisfied. I'd go back! :-D

Small bread plate that steak was served on vs. Salad plate.

Stopped here after local recommendations. Ordered a 4 ounce filet steak for $28. When it came it was served alone on a bread plate! I asked the server why no potato or vegetable? She said the entrees come with soup or salad and you already have your salad. I was aghast to be served a piece of meat on a small plate...I put it on my salad plate to look like a meal and wound up ordering mushrooms as a side! My husband ordered a pizza pasta bake that was small and lots of cheese, he said it was nothing special. Minus the wine, $60 for a small pasta dish, and a 4 oz. steak with (extra) mushrooms I added, for I think $8, (that does not come with the steak), and salad, no vegetable or potato, was way overpriced. No amount of garlic bread can cover up the portion sizes. I suggested she let the mgr./owner know. I doubt he would care considering some of the reviews I have recently read. If Marquette thinks this is the #1 Italian restaurant...you've been duped!

Stuffed shells...seem to be drowning too (plus what is that stray canned mushroom doing there?)

Unfortunately tonight I didn't get here early enough so I sat out by the bar, which is absolutely fine. I started with a French onion soup, which I normally do when I'm here, tonight it was a little less oniony than it usually is, but that just could simply be a function of whoever was ladling it up. It's still absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the chicken piccata with a baked potato and steamed green beans. The steamed green beans are a staple while there are a variety of other sides, such as onion rings or Alfredo, etc. I was a little disappointed in the piccata this time. It was less lemony and more oily than I remember. The lemon wedge helped, but I don't think that piccata would have to need additional lemon to the sauce. The green beans also a little heavy on the butter as was the baked potato. I don't want to say that the meal wasn't flavorful, because it was and my server while really busy was an absolute gem, only that it was a little heavy with the melted butter. After many excellent experiences here, this won't turn me off to coming back again and trying something else. Especially if I can get a table in the back!

The salad was good and the oysters were also good. We ordered the pecan praline dessert that I thought was ok. I probably would have liked something else for dessert. I definitely didn't care for the Brussels sprouts. I'd recommend getting some other side dish. I loved being able to look outside from our perch within the restaurant. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The place was comfortable and there were lots of people there-made for a fun atmosphere. What was discouraging was the food. Granted, we got there a little after 8 PM and we knew it closed at 9 PM. We were sure to order quickly and we had the muffaleta quarter, the half pound of shrimp boil (mkt price), hush puppies, a side of beans and rice and two bowls of seafood bisque. We also had lemonade, beer and hurricanes. The drinks were all really good! Unfortunately all the food was sub par. Shrimp Boil: a half pound was about 6-7 shrimp and they were clearly overcooked. Like I'm pretty shocked they sent it out like that. Dry and rubbery and that's one of your Mkt Price items. Side of corn for the shrimp: my daughter found a hair in it that was pretty deeply buried in there. She didn't try it after that. Hush Puppies: dry and while the sauces helped, we shouldn't need to cover something in sauce to make it appetizing. Muffaleta Quarter: it was pretty mushy and didn't have a lot of flavor to it-my subjective opinion. I love muffaletas, so this one hit hard for me. It was almost like there was too much meat and not enough olive tapenade (I think that's what it is?) Seafood bisque: there were no bits of seafood in there. I was really surprised by this. Beans and Rice: it looked like it was sitting out for a long time and was bland and a little crusty. I try hard not to write a negative review without some pretty objective facts, and we let the waitress (who was very apologetic and helpful) know about our concerns. She took the shrimp, beans and rice and the corn off the bill. With regards to the seafood bisque, when I asked if there should be seafood in it, she let me know that they blend up the seafood in the bisque, so there are no chunks of visible seafood. This just made the soup taste like there was nothing in it. I don't think I've ever had a bowl of seafood bisque without visible chunks of seafood in it. I'm really surprised that they would advertise and serve it like this. Maybe it's just me, but I would expect to see and taste seafood in it. I was really hoping for more and I hope this was just a fluke. I was going to stop by there for their brunch over this weekend, but I'm unlikely to give this another chance. I spent $94 plus tip for 3 of us and we didn't take any of it home.
