Being from the Midwest, I've had Detroit style pizza more than a few times. I've always preferred thing New York style but figured I'd have to give this place a try after walking past and smelling the pizza numerous times. Both pizzas were fantastic, crunchy yet cushiony inside and delicious toppings. Ordered the red wing and the Dearborn heights pizzas and couldn't be more impressed. Would definitely recommend getting something simple as well as something with many toppings. Best of both worlds. Also get an order of their famous ranch to dip into if you are into that. Great pizza place! I ordered through Yelp and the pizza was hot and ready for me at the exact time I scheduled my pickup. I chose the Motown Pizza which has a delightful assortment of toppings I would have never thought to combine: Meatball, Pepperoni, Banana Pepper, Caramelized Onion, and Chili Relish. It was great! At times, the chili relish was a bit too spicy for me (I'm a weakling at spice) but overall I enjoyed the kick and the rest of the toppings. There was also a large dollop of sauce atop the pizza which made me wish all pizzas came with large dollops of sauce. I shared one pizza with a friend. It has four thicc slices and left us satisfied but not overstuffed. There's a small outdoor seating area that I noticed when I was picking up, if you're interested in dining in. I recently had Detroit style pizza for the first time at Emmy Squared in Shaw. I enjoyed eating there, but I wasn't truly a Detroit pizza convert until I ate here at Red Light! A great introduction to Detroit style pizza! While the pizza certainly isn't cheap, it's a very yummy splurge. The crust is perfectly crispy on the outside with a fluffy soft interior. I preferred the classic cheese pizza over the speciality pizza (that had pierogis and a cream sauce overtop) because it offered a "lighter" option. While the pizzas may appear smaller, they are extremely heavy and filling. A great meal option if you're looking for pizza with a twist. read more

First off, you should know if Antoine is bartending, you are in for a good experience. He has a beard and glasses, and there's usually old school hip-hop or R&B playing. This bar is conveniently located at the corner of 14/R and it has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The bar itself has about 10 seats inside, and there are plenty of high tables to sit at as well. They have a variety of food, mainly pizza, but not just any pizza... Detroit-style pizza. As a pizza fanatic, I am actually unfamiliar with it, but it's a thick crusted pizza all the way through, not just on the edges, and comes with all the toppings. I sampled it once, and it's not bad! It ain't New York, but let me not start a beef here ;-). Anyways, they offer a happy hour from 5:00-8:00 during the week, and 3:00-6:00 on weekends. This includes $5 beers, $6 wines & $6 rails. It's not the cheapest HH you'll find in the city, but the vibes are good, Antoine is always down for some good conversation, the drinks are good, and the music is good. When you hear Detroit Style Pizza, you may think of a short Italian man stabbing several pizza pies while he is only able to say the word "pizza", but I am here to tell you that soon Red Light will become synonymous with Detroit Style Pizza in DC. This was my first adventure to Red Light even though I have walked by the establishment numerous times thinking, "is this P Street?" This time me and my partner, hey giiirrrrrllll, finally decided to give this place a go. The outdoor space was well equipped with space heaters, though be warned there is only high top seating. When settling into our chairs and receiving our order, I dove right into the pizza and may I tell you this was like throwing an octopus onto an ice rink. The cheese was gooey like gum stuck on the floor liner of a GMC Denali, the dough fluffy, and the sauce with a nice cut like a run by former Detroit Lion Barry Sanders. After finishing the pizza, I thought about the struggles the city of Detroit has experienced and cried as I found P Street and walked to the metro. read more

Red Light is a small place with decent outdoor seating. We stopped by on an early Sunday evening. We decided to sit outside because the music was a little too loud indoors for us. We were greeted at the order window very quickly and the service was pleasant and efficient. We ordered an appetizer and pizza and both did come out at the same time. We decided to focus on the pizza and eventually took the app home. The pizza was delicious and a very good example of the Detroit style. Eventually we ate the app (spinach artichoke dip) at home and found it to also be very tasty. I would definitely go back and try other items on the menu, but would probably sit outside just to avoid the loud music (yes I'm older but also like to carry on a conversation without raising my voice). read more

We wandered in on a lazy sunday right when they opened. There was only one table seated in the place and it was ear-shatteringly loud inside. As we ate, it just got louder and louder. This really isn't a place to dine-in, at least not indoors... it's a loud party bar. Normally that would be OK if the food was better, but it was just meh and the prices were pretty high even for DC. I'm from Detroit, so I knew I was going to be picky. The food was actually decent, but the portions were tiny. You get 4 slices of pizza, compared to Emmy Squared (which is growing in popularity in the DMV) where you get 50% more for the same price. I also think Emmy Squared is significantly better in quality, so unless you live nearby, I don't see a need to stop into here if all you're seeking is Detroit Pizza. If you want a loud local bar to watch a game or celebrate St Patrick's day, I can see this being a good spot. read more

The place is fantastic. Fast casual with pizzas that are not SUPER cheap, but omg so delicious it's worth it. We got the red wing and it was fantastic. Crispy on the edges but fluffy chewy on the inside with this heavenly red sauce and Burrata drizzled with a touch of balsamic. Each bite was a textural journey with flavor that was kind of addictive. Try the Detroit style pizza! They just introduced it in July 2019. Detroit style pizza has more of a focaccia crust, it's square, and the sauce is on top. It's different enough from regular pizza that you should check it out. I believe this is the only place in DC that has Detroit style. Red Light doesn't have delivery and their new menu wasn't on any delivery apps, but Postmates let me type in the menu item I wanted and they placed the order and delivered it which worked out well. I appreciated they offered not only a vegan pizza option (the Greenfield Village), but one with well chosen toppings. Really fun happy hour spot! Lots of available patio seats/tables if you arrive before 6:30 (even on Friday). Super friendly service and no lines at the counter. I'm not even at the best part, which is the Detroit style pizza. I had no idea this was a thing, but it's deliciously crispy and oily and light. Red Light serves it hot on a rack to avoid the bottom getting soggy. They also have good drink deals for happy hour, making it a cheap and fun spot for dinner and drinks with friends! Only drawback is if you're a meat lover who's not into pork since all the meat options are. But we loved our three meatless pies and highly recommend getting something with pesto. read more

Came here on a Saturday night to try with my bf - he's a pizza lover and we definitely enjoyed the food! I never had Detroit style pizza and honestly never heard of it and this spot did not disappoint! We got the Gordie sticks appetizer with the vodka sauce- which essential are cheese sticks but the vodka sauce was the star! Best vodka sauce I had I def need the recipe. For the pizza we got the MoTown and it was sooo good! 10/10 recommend. It's a nice chill bar vibe so it's a nice spot to just hang grab pizza and wine or a drink and watch a game. read more

We went out with my wife for a date night in a comedy club and finished the night with some pizza. The photo shows a BBQ Detroit style pizza which was good but oily. The service was horrible. I wouldn't go back here again. While we were dining out, there was a lady whose bag was also stolen so there was a commotion. Hard to get the attention of the staff and feels like I have to fend for myself and my food. We showed them that we have a Yelp coupon and they didn't even honor it. The waitress called her manager who also didn't know what was going on and clearly it says on the Yelp app that there is a discount. The manager claimed that she knew all of the promotions that was going on and clearly she did not. We ended up paying full price when it is clearly advertised. The waitress then was rude to us while taking our orders and even didn't give us utensils to eat. I had to ask for it and come back to where she was staying. We also ordered the Burrata salad which was great. I don't think I would come back to this place again. read more

My friend Shazia and I love our dessert places in DC. We usually try to find the coolest places for desserts even though most of the time we end up in Georgetown Cupcakes. This place is a mixture between a neighborhood bar and dessert lounge combined into one. I really liked the cool vibe and I thought we can get some great desserts and drinks since we were in a close by area. The dessert we ordered was the chocolate creme pot which had great notes of mint incorporated in layers of the chocolate dessert. They have desserts of the month as well. Their appetizers looked good plus good value with happy hour menus on drinks. The service was extremely slow but I really liked the set up they had. They have cozy sharing tables as well as a bar area. Plus when the weather gets better they have a cute outdoor seating. This bar has a lot of potential to be a favorite among the locals.~ read more

Came here in April on a chilly evening and the patio is warm and fun to people watch. I can't say that I've tried every single pizza place in DC during the short year that I've lived there but I gave it a good shot, having moved recently from Chicago. I gave on finding a good Chicago-style pizza in the area, but was very pleasantly surprised to find this Detroit-style pizza place. I'll take it. Close enough. Came here super late one random evening and was surprised to have an amazing meal. First, when checking in, the employees here really try to make the dining experience go as smoothly as possible. The server was immediately out and took our drink orders. She explained that my Old Fashioned would come out in a plastic cup but would taste like an actual Old Fashioned. That it did. Never had a more authentic cocktail served in a plastic cup. The pizza, however, really surprised me. We ordered the meat pizza and it couldn't have been more perfect. I'm not a huge bacon on pizza lover. Yes, I like bacon too but I find it often gimmicky on pizza. Same with a "meat lovers" pizza in general. Most of the time, it's just random, poor quality meat all thrown together and is more of a quantity than quality. What I had at Red Light was much more than that. Every square slice was perfectly balanced. Seasoning, meat, cheese and sauce. And on top of that, it had the best crust I've had in a long time. I thought this place was cute. I came here for a friend's birthday happy hour. The concept of red lights everywhere was pretty cool. The menu was pretty decent, but they did not have any more shrimp. That was disappointing. I ordered chicken tenders and fries which was pretty decent and extremely hot. The drinks were good and the bartender was really nice and attentive. Happy hour is until 8 pm I believe and my friend was able to have them play her own playlist which I thought was great! I would make it back here but there wasn't anything that surprised me but I'll definitely add it to my list of happy hour spots. So here is the story. I actually live across the street from this place. I decided to go and order a pizza to go. It was 2100( 9pm). I go inside and I was told, they ran out of pizza for "to go" customers. I could not believe this, they close at 10 pm, and the outside patio was full of people, I guess they were eating or maybe just drinking. I am very sad a disappointed.
