Maybe I'm biased since Detroit is my hometown, but this didn't taste like Detroit-style pizza at all. The crust was nice and crispy, and the pizzas looked beautiful, but beyond that, there wasn't much "Detroit" about them. I recommend rebranding. Even the ranch didn't really taste like ranch -- it was very dill-heavy. The watermelon pineapple mocktails were tasty, though. This is a pretty cool spot with some nice outdoor seating for when it's warm out. You order up at the counter and they bring it to your table. We got the OG Pepperoni. It was very good, but I personally thought there wasn't enough sauce (probably a Detroit pizza thing, this is my first time). Also, I wasn't a huge fan of how they placed the pepperoni; they stacked like 5 pieces on top of each other throughout, so when you got pepperoni in a bite you got a LOT of pepperoni. I love Detroit pizza and I get it every week in Chicago. Happened to wander the neighborhood and stumbled upon this place, which was an immediate YES. It seemed a bit too cramped for my liking. On to the main part though, the food - We ordered: Boots with the fur: 5/5 This was the perfect drink for the cold weather. It was steaming hot. The choice of glassware was interesting, but the drink was fabulous. The notes of cinnamon, clove and pomegranate combined aromatically for this beverage. Red Wing: 5/5 Another W(ing) for this place! The pizza was rather small, but since it's Detroit style it's quite filling. Although, after 2 slices I was still hungry because it was so good! The burrata combined with the oregano and parsley was such a great touch. The 2 slices of pizza were not satisfying enough so decided to order an app afterwards. Gordie Sticks: 10/5 These cheesy sticks blew my expectations out of the roof. I was fully expecting 4-5 breadsticks with a small sauce, but out came a plate of 12 cheesy sticks with creamy vodka sauce. I could just drink the sauce right up. I was eating these cheesy sticks for days and was extremely sad after they were finished. The pizza at this place is great, but the real star of the show was the Gordie sticks. I wasn't sure all those flavors would go together, I'm typically a pepperoni girl, but they honesty balance one another so well. It gets pretty busy but it's worth the wait. I recently tried the taco pizza and really enjoyed it. It's probably my favorite from here. The queso was a letdown. And also overpriced. Think watered down Velveeta with Rotel. We're from MI so we can get "kinda judgy" when it comes to Detroit style pizza. RL delivers a quality pie crust, sauce, cheese, and (most importantly) the crunchy Motown corners. The pizza here is wonderful! Have been here on several occasions and each of the pizzas I've had have been flavorful and met with a "oh my god this is so good" on the first bite. My only recurring problem is the slowness/orders getting confused. On busy nights, when the staff is stressed, we've often had multiple menu items misdelivered and told that they won't make certain drinks on the menu. This is fine, but just hard to have expectations going in. Going here at an off time is definitely the best guarantee at the best service. read more

It's quite spacious and has a good amount of indoor/outdoor seating. My friend and I started off with a citrusy Aperol Spritz that was lightly sweet and refreshing - just how I like it! We were sat inside next to the bar and tried two different pies. We decided on the Red Wing and Motor City. The Red Wing was phenomenal! I loved the generous helpings of parsley, fresh parmesan, and burrata (the star of the show!). The cheeses were so flavorful and packed a punch in each saucy, garlicky bite. The crust is doughy, thick, and cooked to perfection. The balsamic bound each of the cheeses and had a very vibrant taste. One slice was so filling and satisfied my pizza craving! I was so hooked on the Red Wing I didn't make my way over to the Motor City. However, my friend really enjoyed it! Excited to try it and others on my next visit. I would give the pizza and drinks 5 stars, but there were far too many issues with service. Granted we came during the afternoon of St. Patrick's Day weekend. However, it was just far too slow after we had been waiting for 30 minutes or so. It seemed that some people that came after us got their food much quicker. Walked past this place looking for dinner on a Saturday night and drifted back because of the smell! It wasn't super busy and we snagged a table after ordering at the counter. Note that their system adds a tip automatically to your total and the iPad will ask you to tip again but you can decline - shoutout to the cashier for letting us know that! We started with the kale caesar salad - definitely recommend for some greens and the fried shallots on top were a great touch! We split a Joe Louis pizza and I felt like that was a good choice considering you basically get a half sheet pan of pizza. Loved the ricotta! I always think the Detroit style is fascinating but I'm a Chicago native who loves a lot of crust so I'm into it. They have an enclosed patio that I think has a separate door you have to enter outside but looks like it would be awesome in the summer! There's no shortage of places to eat on 14th and Red Light is definitely a good move. The Detroit pizza is delicious and they have an excellent happy hour! I got the Jolly Bee for a drink and it was so refreshing - it was gin and calamansi and a nod to Filipinos. ;) The Northwest Fizz with vodka, cucumber and mint is also very refreshing. The classic cheese and OG pepperoni are only $12 during happy hour and you get four large slices (original price is $19-20). The patio is very inviting and good for small to larger parties. Nice for people watching too. Staff are very friendly. Tables are a little skinny though so be careful. :) I have no idea why I didn't visit this place sooner because it's been around a while! read more

Really cool spot in the heart of 14th street by Logan Circle. Some nice beers on tap and a casual but sophisticated vibe. The service was excellent and the pizza was quite good--a little too much cheese to sauce ratio for me, but still a very nice crispy crust and caramelized cheese on top. I had first heard about this place from a friend and then had gone to Little Beast for a Yelp event. You can tell that they don't follow tradition 100% but that's a good thing. The dough is is quite soft and reminds me of focaccia. The ranch is white thin and reminds me more of a tzatziki because of the higher proportion of dill. Red light is considered the best Detroit style pizza by my food friend who is from Michigan. I agree. Places like Emmy Squared bake an overly crunchy pizza that is hard to eat. You're scared you'll cut the roof of your mouth at other Detroit pizza spots. I like Red Light because the base of the pizzas also isn't saturated in grease and oil. The pizzas look small, but when you pick up the box you can feel the heft. I add a little bit of Momofuku black truffle chili oil on (it doesn't need it but...) it's very clear to me they know their dough. Big recommend and will return. read more

There is no reason oil should be collected in the corner of the box, and seeping through the bottom of box onto my clothes. My tights are ruined, I don't know how I'm going to get the oil out.
