Adjusting my rating to 3/5 after the rather disappointing trip recently. Mongolian beef was more like "stir fried scallions and onions with a hint of beef" which could have been okay if cooked properly... but felt as if it was rushed as the sauce didn't blend well (was heavily concentrated in one area vs none in another) and the onions were pretty raw. Had to stop after few bites. Fish with black bean sauce was okay but not something I would recommend nor ever order again. Just like the Mongolian beef, didn't taste like it was "cooked enough" and the black bean sauce wasn't spread out (blended) evenly. Chow mein was chow mein, and there wasn't anything special to wow about but the only decent dish from this trip. Based on my 3 trips so far, it seems their strength is on the Kungpao line of dishes and I would recommend their Kungpao Tofu as per my previous review. read more

Been coming by for years and decided to stop for lunch. Decor - kind of dark and old school, which I love. Service - was great Food- fresh orange chicken ($7.99). That was good, fried rice just ok (included at no cost) BBQ pork wasn't good at all. Kung Pao Chicken was decent ($7.99). Drinks - No fountain drinks, all cans. I don't like this option. This is a quick review and notice for future customers. Be sure to use the phone # to call to place an order, or use the proper website. The link here on Yelp, goes to a third party. The only reason I found out was that once the order was confirmed, it sent me an "Ubereats" text and showed delivery time. Somehow the driver had some sort of issue with the pick up, and so it was 'canceled'. I called the phone, the lady said she didn't know anything about it, but the guy did provide the order, and my card info (which in itself is very odd). The staff there explained to me when I went to pick up the order, that they received a call from someone that wasn't Asian, placed the order, and said someone was going to pick up the order for delivery. It was a bit messy. To avoid all of that, PLUS not get charged over $10-15+ in additional food and delivery fees, avoid the link to place the order here. The lady said they didn't even claim the Yelp page ... yet. Maybe a rep can reach out to them. It's a small family business that serves decent Chinese/Americanized food that I would still like to support. Door Dash, and BeyondMenu, and some other services they do use, just not Ubereats. Lately been wanting to try something new. Skimming through yelp and found a local Chinese restaurant so decided to give it a try since we were running errands around that area and they had pretty good ratings. Red Lantern is located in a huge complex with Vons so there is plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty small and had a Chinese vibe, very old school tables and chairs. We were seated in a corner booth which was a good size for 6 people. The food was meh. The two things I enjoyed were the combination chowmein and the orange chicken, everything else was eh. The cream cheese wonton was crispy but not hot at all, walnut shrimp was greasy, didn't love the flavor and the salt and pepper pork chop was bland. I'd have to say it's a more expensive version of Panda Express. Although, Panda might be better. With that said, I'd rather go elsewhere to get my Chinese food fix. read more

Terrible service! The staff was so rude. Would only take half our order and then walk away as we were still giving our order. When the food came out they practically shove the plates at you. We were excited to try this place because they have vegan/vegetarian options, but I lost my appetite after we went to pick up our food and a worker was very rude to us. She told us our order wasn't there and was being difficult, not making an effort to figure out which order was ours. Another worker came to help us, asked my name, and found our order immediately. She was nice. The first worker interrupted, took over, and was again very rude, cutting me off when I was trying to answer her question. I was so stunned by this entire interaction. We've just moved into the area and we've been getting some coupons in the mail from local restaurants. Red Lantern was one of those places that we definitely wanted to visit when we got the time and tonight was the night! We ordered two entrees: Steamed Mixed Vegetables Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce for $8.99 and Orange Chicken coming in at $10.99. The Orange Chicken was your standard Orange Chicken you can get at other Chinese Takeout places. It wasn't overtly saucy, the way we like it, and it did have a nice slight kick of heat from some roasted Chinese red peppers that hyped our expectations upon opening. It had a good portion size with plenty leftover for another meal. When it came to flavor, it was as delicious as Orange Chicken can be but nothing special. Whenever we have an Orange Chicken itch, we'll come back for it here. Overall, a solid 4 out of 5. Now when it came to the Steamed Mixed Vegetables Tofu with Spicy Garlic sauce, we wish things were different. The vegetables were all overcooked, steamed beyond the point of no return. Tasteless, bland, and cut with no finesse, these poor vegetables were done wrong. The tofu was amazingly worse! Huge chunks of tasteless chunky pillows were met with every mouthful - it makes us wonder where the tofu was sourced from. The sauce, marked spicy, was just what seemed to be a mixture of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and about a dozen small pieces of garlic - also tasteless, probably full of water and corn starch. This dish warrants a 1 out of 5. The service was quick, easy, and the person helping us was very kind. We actually wanted to order some steamed rice on the side but she let us know that with every entre rice is already included. Overall, Red Lantern earned a 3 stars in our book - definitely come by if you're local and have an itch for Chinese Food, but don't go out of your way by any means. read more

Been searching for another place for Chinese takeout since China Wok shut down. Red Lantern is a decent substitute in a pinch but it's just okay. My main gripe is the hot and sour soup. It's very watery and rather bland. There's just no substance. And the small size (which is more than 1 person can consume) is $5. This was my 2nd try of the soup and it's a definitely pass for future visits. The kung pao dish is good. Again I feel like the restaurant is pinching on the protein. There's ample onion and water chestnuts but marginal on meat. Times are tough and restaurants may be cutting costs but cutting back on key ingredients is not a way to go to build a business. read more

The restaurant seating is one big room. 4 booths for parties of four along both walls. The decor is a little dark for my taste and could use a little brighter decor. Thu tried making the small place feel authentic. However, the food doesn't quite match the authenticity that they're trying to accomplish. Sure, the food is closer to the real thing and is a step up from Panda Express, Pick Up Stix and even Pei Wei but it definitely falls short if you compare it to places like Phoenix. The closest thing (besides their steamed rice) to the real thing would be their Singapore Rice Noodle. However they forgot to add in the curry but it actually still tasted okay. The Kung pao 3 flavor wasn't bad although the portion amount was on the small side. The salt and pepper pork wasn't good. The amount of pork to the breading was about equal which means there wasn't much pork. Some of the pieces was just fat. The paper wrapped chicken-DON'T order this. It was so dry and flavorless. So you might wonder why only 1 Star? Well, service is usually not the strong point of any Chinese restaurant but the lady that served us tonight takes the cake. We arrived at 8 pm. At 8:45 pm she came and asked if we could pay bill so that she could close out the register even though the restaurant closes at 9 pm. Over the next 15 minutes they kept rushing us to finish our food because as she said she needed to wash the dishes before closing. At 8:55 pm she grabbed the glass of coke and asked if we wanted to finish it before taking it away. Now, here's the real kicker and why the 1 star. There's was another party of 6 people in the center of the restaurant. I think they were friends or at least they know the owner. They still had plates full of food, tea pots, glasses, silverware, etc. and they were still eating. The same lady who rushed to take away my glass of Coke even refilled their glasses of water. Note to the owner: optics says a lot and please be more cordial to your customers and not just your friends. read more
