Oh my I can't say enough about this place! The vibe is fun and energetic. The service was friendly, attentive and spot on! The appetizer pig wings are amazing. The meat is tender and the Asian sweet chili sauce on point. Normally I would never order a salad but the Brussel sprout salad is amazing. Messing up a Brussel sprout is so easy, but it was on point. If you are around the area definitely worth trying. read more

Stumbled upon this awesome find on a road trip because of yelp reviews. They did not disappoint. Easily the best Cobb salad I've ever had. Cajun chicken with candied bits of bacon, fresh blue cheese. My husband had the burger and said it was one of the best he's had. You can tell the chef cares about quality fresh food with flavor. Staff very friendly. Lots to look at too, restaurant is decorated with vinyl records, concerts posters and guitars. We will definitely take a road trip just to come here soon! read more

As a Deep River local we frequent the Red House very often. The service is ALWAYS PHENOMENAL! Bar staff is always great, waitresses are wonderful as well! The food is always delicious no matter what day and no matter what your in the mood for! The nachos are great! The mean beans are the perfect match of fried and fresh all in one! Me my wife and friends were hiking in Chester and I did a little research before we left on Yelp, as always 4 star or more was right on the money. Red House was a great find. Customer service was great from hostess to waiter to bartender. Menu had so many awesome things on it. We ordered the Palumba, a Manhattan a Sloop IPA. The drinks were really good. Next apps the short rib pierogis were so hearty and flavorful. The carnitas tacos really deep flavor with pickled onion soft corn tortilla. The last was the pork nachos, a large portion and very flavorful with the roasted pork, salsa and mixed chips, with some chipotle mayo, great accent to add depth. Dinners can't go wrong with a well seasoned burger with blue cheese which my friend had and the sweet potato gnocchi that my friends wife had was very savory and unique vs the standard potato. My wife had the burnt ends platter very flavorful and Smokey. The last was mine which I would have changed if it could was the fried chicken wrap. The amount of chicken was lacking. A lot of lettuce. Flavorful but after hiking would have liked the protein of maybe the regular chicken sandwich. No room for desert but the choices looked good for next time. Friendly staff to the end! Had a great lunch at the Red House. Burn ends were fantastic as was the Hamburger plate. They make some wonderful French fries and also the hamburger was served with a topping of very thin onion rings which were just fantastic. You can have these onion rings instead of the French fries. Beers were super. Decor is late 1960's rock with loads of Jimmie Hendrix and Greatful Dead posters. Staff was totally invested in the place and really friendly and knowledgeable. After two years of trying to get down to Deep River to Red House, a dreary Saturday was calling our names for some good eats after a busy week. We went for a lazy late lunch, not quite happy hour meal. Decent crowd for the weather and time of day, which was nice to see. We were immediately greeted like we were regulars by our top notch server..one of our best service experiences in a long time. The food was phenomenal, and Their menu will please any craving you may be having. House made charcuterie- f***ing legit. Everything was crafted by the kitchen..pate, terrines, mini biscuits, pimento cheese, and even house made cheddar cheese. Fried chicken sandwich was excellent..pictures prove that. Their delicious pimento cheese slathered on brioche with crispy chicken, slaw, jalapeños and house pickles. Damn! Oh and the sticky toffee pudding was equally delicious. Recently my wife and I went to the Red House on a recommendation from a BNB nearby. It didn't disappoint. We usually like to sit at a quiet bar or sit alone in a corner. ( We are over 70 and like quiet.) The bar was packed and the dinning room was booked so we sat outside alone except for the awesome weather. We planned to have only a drink or two because we had a late lunch. Things changed rapidly from our plans. Falan was our waitress and she made it so comfortable that we had to stay, have appetizers and a few of the special house drinks. Everything was perfect, we thought, until a female sat down at the table across from us and we indulged in a conversation. Soon a male sat down across from her and we engaged more. It turned out they were the owners of the place. The tone was set by Falan but it continued. We had some awesome appetizers and an incredible "THE gin and tonic". By the time we left I ordered, from Amazon, the tonic they used. Until this day I want to continue the vibe of the place. We plan to go back to Deep River again for the weekend to just see Falan, Mark and Abbey. They made our weekend away even more special than we imagined. read more

Five-dollar bar bites, dollar-off poured beer and wine, and a five-dollar cocktail are offered from 5 to 7pm daily at Red House, and though their glistening house margarita was tempting, I stuck with the Port Hopper Golden Ale from Groton's Outer Light Brewing for fear of wanting many more than one. Bar bites that evening included Short Rib Pierogis, Crab Tots, and Prosciutto Sticks, and my date and I opted for all three. The tots and pierogis stole the show--savory blue crab with an herb aioli positively melts in your mouth, and the pierogis, drizzled with a horseradish sour cream, are decadent yet light. The prosciutto sticks are artfully presented in a little brushed metal cup and served as a crunchy-salty little snack--a good choice if you're ordering entrees. So, last night was my first visit to this restaurant. I was really looking forward to it until I arrived. The reception myself and my group of 7 others received was Subpar at best. The Owner was the person who was actually Very Rude & Obnoxious!! Unbelievable! I mean he went out of his way to be rude to us, Why?? Couldn't tell ya. I mean we arrived for dinner & drinks, there was 8 of us total and we didn't call for a reservation...Was that deserving of such Unprofessional behavior, and from the Owner non the less?!! We even waited almost an hour for our food to be served! Punishment perhaps?!! Really?? What kind of a business are you running anyway?!! Needless to say it was my first visit and will certainly be my Last! Sad too cause the food was very good, (when we Finally received it!) Kudos to the Chef anyway. Him I'll give 4.5 stars! read more

My wife and I just out for a Sunday drive and about after 2hrs of wondering around the Northeast corner of CT we were going through Deep River CT and spotting the Red House from the street and a lot of outside tables this looked very inviting we a immediately parked and started to look for the bar,Bingo a establishment not what I expected, Rock and Roll memorabilia all over the walls and not just posters from an era fro the past it was almost like waking in a Hard Rock Cafe, this not a knock on the the restaurant we thought that the Red House has better food and much nicer people that any Hard Rock Cafe that we ever visited now the bar has nice big bar stools for comfort and just so happens to have a good draft beer selection our afternoon bite to eat was faboulas we are are always looking for something different we were not disappointed Pork wings the tastiest fall off the bone pork delicious also deep fried pickles and okra in a light tempura batter it also came with about four different sauces if needed. On Marc's suggestion I just broke from my Tito's and had a dry Broken Shed martini at one of CTs finest little restaurants and I'm a convert. Red House owner Marc De Tour and bartenders Jordan and Beth are old school garter on the sleeve mixologists and this vodka lives up to their standards. Wow! What a really pleasant surprise! After walking past the place many times over the past couple of years I had made the very incorrect assumption that it was just a local gin mill. Last night I found out that it was a very busy local restaurant with a friendly and efficient staff serving great food! Mushroom soup garnished with a little truffle oil, carmelized shaved brussel sprout salad with apple, fried chicken filet with pink coleslaw and some spicy, outrageous relish served on a fresh brioche roll with fries, and mac and cheese made with house produced cheddar were just some of the dishes we tried....all delicious...we will be back! read more

Another hidden gem all the way out here in my neck of the woods. From the outside it looks non-descript, but once you step in you are surrounded by music posters, records, and various memorabilia. There is a bar area with a few tables and a television for watching sports, etc. The servers are always super nice, funny, and fantastic. The two times I have been here, they have had some pretty good beers on tap as well. Always at least two good IPAs. Last night, they had Mean Old Tom's Stout available. There food makes it worth the stop though. One afternoon I had the ruby beet and goat cheese salad and the Red House burger. Last night, they had short rib beef gnocchi. Oh my goodness it was so good. The meat was so tender and delicious. The root veggies mixed in were also well cooked, not mushy and tasteless. It is the best dish I have had here so far. We also split the jambalaya, which was spicier than I thought it would be (in a good way), and the bread pudding for dessert. The bread pudding was also a surprise. Instead of the normal bowl they were toasted pieces encircling a mound of whipped cream. I liked it this way because I like my bread pudding to have more crispy top than softness. An interesting take on the staple dessert. If you are in the area I highly recommend a stop. A great "safety net" to have if you come to Chester on a weekend night and everyone is packed or reserved up until close. read more

"Ah yeah! - There's a red house over yonder, that's where my baby stays..." First off, let me get this out there: my favorite song of all time is Jimi Hendrix's "Red House". In my 20's our local pub had a jukebox, and great memories were had to Jimi gloriously belting and shredding to a great time with old friends. This place bears the moniker well, a red painted building with an interior rife with musical decoration; front and center, on the right wall, a huge print of Jimi Hendrix on a red background: Is this destiny? Now to the food and drink. This place is a cajun/pub restaurant with a mix of spicy southern foods and more traditional pub fair, e.g. burgers and fries. First up, the fried pickles, gloriously thin slices and fried to perfection. I had a brisket sandwich, and it was good, but not the best BBQ I've ever had. My wife's cajun burger was phenomenal, with a wonderful rub that left me jealous. The diners were primarily families out at dinner, and a mixed crowd at the bar of older couples perhaps trying to relive the same great memories I had to a jukebox belting out Hendrix among friends. I am so excited to have a restaurant that comes through on all counts. The ambiance is streamlined rock & roll. The staff are full of terrific energy and excited to share their thoughts about their favorites on the menu. I could tell they were sincere. And the food was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The warm goat cheese & pear salad was fresh and a delicious start. The St. Louis ribs were so tender and delicious. My favorite was the fried pickles and okra with a dip that I believe had a hint of jalopeno -- fried to crispy perfection -- absolutely yummy! The pulled "Peekin" Duck was good, tender and with a mix of lettuce and more in a fresh wrap. It was not as tasty as the rest, but still a contender compared to many wraps at other places. Can't wait to go back and try more!!! This was take out, so I look forward to in-house dining. The bartender/server here during our brunch today was outstanding. All the food was delicious, I highly recommend the pulled pork nachos! We also got the fried chicken wrap and the bacon Mac and cheese with freshly smoked pulled pork on top. The Mac and cheese was super creamy and delicious. The service was very personable, fast and funny. Being in the customer service business myself, it's always nice to have servers who actually care that their customers enjoy the experience. *sunday they have bottomless mimosas for only $12! What a great find! We were nearby with our 11 month old after seeing Thomas the Train. We were headed to one of our favorite restaurants in Chester, but it was way too crowded and noisy this time. A quick Yelp search revealed this place. Inside the decor is very rock n' roll, with posters of The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin, among others. Based on the quick Yelp read I had in the car, we ordered the Pig Wings. SO delicious - in some type of Thai chili sauce, I think. The restaurant was spacious and not overcrowded. The bar was completely separate. This was during the Kentucky Derby - so I very much enjoyed not hearing noise from the bar spill over, especially with my young son. Also, very family friendly, with a children's menu. The main courses were excellent! The boyfriend had the burger and I had the pulled pork sandwich. Wanted to stay for dessert, but we really were too full. I'm not sure why previous reviews say service was grumpy - it was A+. When we're back up that way, we will definitely visit again (and this time I want to try the Mean Beans)! read more

Just had a really nice lunch here. My son and I split the ancho-crusted Seared Tuna Taco appetizer. The tuna was seared just right, served on bibb lettuce leaves with mango salsa. That would be an ideal light lunch for one. \ We each had the Red House Applewood Smoked BLT, his with avocado and fries, mine with salad greens. The bacon was done well, not soggy but not burned on multigrain bread with a cheese spread. Again, very good flavor. All in all, The Red House is well worth the visit. read more

Good meat, Not bad, not great. I'm glad this place is close by because it's open, and the food is ok, most people love smoked meat, except my vegan friends, but that makes it even more fun to visit this place with guests so, it's a great local resource. (Hey I live in a small town, so I am grateful for any decent food) I've always had great service and never had a poorly cooked meal, never had a bad experience. So why not 5* ??? Poor Value: My biggest problem is the value. It's decent smoked meat. YUM! Fairly standard sauce and treatment. Decent sides, It's just not anything special and kind of pricey. It's GOOD, just not great and in my opinion with the prices high and portion size small it should be great. I can usually finish my food and I'm notorious for eating small portions. Mind you, I've never had a bad meal here, and that's saying something because I'm pretty darn picky, but I always leave here feeling a little like I just over paid. Perhaps they use some high quality organic free range meat? If so they don't specify it on the menu. It's like a perception game right? Maybe adding to the signage some back story about how the meat is lovingly tended for three weeks in slow smokers rotated by biker gangs or something like that might impart more of a sense of value? Atmosphere: The other complaint is the atmosphere which in general is "cold" The chairs are high and uncomfortable, and even the booths aren't comfortable. It's always a little cold, and in the winter I ate with my coat on, shivering, and the heat never kicked in. The place has high ceilings and must be costly to heat... I understand it must be sucky to pay for heat on a dead winter night with only two tables seated, but, it's a courtesy thing to understand that people generally don't want to wear winter coats while paying to eat out. (TIP: Another local place I go to places a space heater near you in winter... That's a cost effective solution! ) The final atmosphere problem is LOUD music, like can't have a conversation in the dining room loud. Almost like compensating, trying to make the place seem hoppin on a slow nite. read more

Went there last night with some friends. It was a perfect choice. First off, the staff is pretty great. Our waitress was really nice and we even meet one of the cooks. They made us feel really welcome. And the entire atmosphere was great. Music was great and everyone there was enjoying themselves. We were hoping to watch a basketball game, but Stanley Cup hockey isn't too bad. The food? Fantastic. The wait staff is not afraid to go into detail or shake things up. It is traditional (I had some great melt-in-your-mouth Brisket) with some fresh twists (the blue cheese bbq sauce is a perfect, yet unexpected, match for their supreme sweet potato fries). I actually got just the Cajun Cobb salad which sounds lame but they did a really good job of elevating the salad. The bacon is like real, big chunks of crispy pork belly, the chicken had a great Cajun flavor, it was really good. My wife got the warm Brussels sprout ceasar salad and said it was to die for. I was expecting great food, great service, and a great atmosphere.....and that's exactly what we got. This place looks to be a home run. The girl working the bar who waited on us was one of the most pleasant, and sociable that we could ask for. The wings were out of this world. salads were fresh, and the nachos were a home run. I actually wanted to try the ribs, but they don't have ribs on the lunch menu...only dinner....which is fine by me, because it gives me another opportunity to go back. Let me start by saying, we had a party of fifteen, including seven cousins ages seven and below who could hardly contain their excitement about going on the North Pole Express (a local Christmas-themed train) after dinner. When we saw reviews that this restaurant was friendly for kids and large parties, we were sold. The reviews were not wrong, we had excellent, excellent service. The servers were patient, understanding, and gave all around great service. Because the service was so great (and we didn't feel like a burden), all the parents were actually able to relax and have a wonderful family dinner. The food was good also, and the ambience superb. This place has the potential to be great, but it's missing good service and good music. We were here several times during the week and we enjoyed what we ordered each time. I really love the asian duck wrap with fries. Each time we went to eat here we had the same server and she did not pay attention to our table. It is frustrating having to wait for the check long after we're finished eating. My husband doesn't like the fact that The Red House boasts that they have good music and it seems this is what they are trying to be known for, but they are not succeeding. Unfortunately, what they play is watered down FM classic rock. The same music that you hear over and over everywhere else. Love this local restaurant, especially the bar, its very cozy and the bartenders are very friendly (shout out to Jordan) the food is amazing, never had a thing I didnt love.
