Do you ever finish a meal somewhere, and it wasn't bad, it was just...strange? That is how I feel about Red House, they have a menu full of staples, but with almost all of them they have gone and done something strange to a classic. Like their warm. brussel. sprout. caesar. salad. Why?! Why can't you just excel at making a traditional caesar salad and add a slight original spin? They will make beautiful delicate mahi-mahi fish tacos, and then put a bunch of tart pickled onions on them, why?! While I do understand adding your own flare to a dish and wanting to stand out, if you are going to make moves like that, they have to WORK. For me personally, they did not work, which was a shame. The mean beans were fairly good, although I would have preferred a lighter, tempura like batter on them, instead of a heavily spiced breadcrumb batter. I feel like that would work better for the dish and the accompanying sauce. I'm told the seared tuna was good as well. On the whole, not a bad meal, just...strange. read more

Hidden Gem... Our second time in as we are 45 minutes away but reinforced the reason we remembered the food, the people and atmosphere. Great crunch on the focaccia outside and soft inside, light salt along with your rich olive oil was so good. Next course was the street corn dip. Like lava when it first comes out but man the flavors, cheese, cilantro and corn on the crispy tortillas, we couldn't stop eating. Main course a burnt end and pulled pork platter. Meat cooked so well, like a great smokehouse. The two barbecue sauces equal to anything I have had in the south. The coleslaw acid was great to cut the fat of the meat and refreshing. French fries, so fresh and crunchy and delicious. The end was the most special #keylimepie... I have had some of the best at Joe's stone crabs but this was better, sweet and tart with fresh whip cream and the great gram cracker crumb. So smooth and enjoyed every bite. Omg. Say hello to Red House in Deep River, CT! This is a must try this summer. The Loaded Pork Nachos are tri-colored chips, cheddar jack, red onion, jalapeño, tomato, black beans, BBQ pulled pork and chipotle sauce. Huge portion! We almost finished them lol Delicious pulled pork and tons of cheese. Awesome patio seating. Also tried their Best Fried Chicken Sandwich, Mac and Cheese and a Paloma. If I could give negative stars to the Red House I would. Lousy food and poor service is the only way to describe it. The French restaurant that occupied this space years ago was excellent, but its haute cuisine was too sophisticated for the locals. The Red House sprung up in its stead with lousy, unpalatable meals, poor service, and throngs of frenzied diners otherwise raised on McDonalds and Burger King. If you love stale, flavorless fare and incompetent service, then Red House is the place for you. If not, avoid the disappointment and go elsewhere to spend your money. Eclectic setting with a cozy fire. Spacious and casual. The food was delicious!! My husband loved the half rack of ribs and my sweet potato gnocchis with caramelized Brussels were to die for. The service was excellent and our waitress was very attuned to my husband's dairy allergy. We appreciated the fact the staff were masked (we left the first place we stopped at because none of the servers were wearing masks). We eat out often and this place gets a 5 star rating from us! The food here is good, although after living in the area for a few years and visiting several times I think the menu could be switched up a bit more. That said, I stopped going here after my fiancé and I were kicked out for staying too long. The place was empty when we got there, and we were still ordering and enjoying drinks following an expensive meal when it started filling up and the manager ordered us to leave (after a couple of not-so-subtle hints) so he could seat someone else. We hadn't been there long at all, it had just filled up quickly. In my mind this is a cardinal restaurant sin and it's only happened to me one other time. I don't care how good your food is, I don't reward this sort of behavior. I can forgive and forget one bad meal but I don't forget bad service. As someone that eats out way too often and has money to spend...what a shame. read more

The environment is really cool, posters and records on the walls. Our waitress was very outgoing, convinced us to try their famous Friday night fried chicken (usually sold out by 7) Go early and get it! It was perfectly crisp on the outside, but juicy and soft inside. Paired with their pickles, which are fantastic. We also have three fried cauliflower and the mean beans (fried green beans) Both delicious and unique. Our favorite dish their is their nachos. Their pulled pork is great, the chipotle aioli is the perfect touch of heat and cream. Highly recommend. (Other than appetizers, they have a nice size menu with sandwich, salad and entree options) Dessert being delivered around us looked great, but we were too stuffed to get any, will be back to t that out read more

Consistent, superior, quality, friendly, creative, busy, fun, beer, beer and more beer are just a few words to describe the red house. We've been coming here on/off over the past few years and it just keeps getting better with time. There is almost no turnover of employees- a rarity in the restaurant business. Staff are professional and really show genuine concern with the customers and your overall food experience. My personal favorites are the chicken wings and salads. If you like local beers, you will not be disappointed. There is one problem...the word has spread and folks are coming from in/out of state to visit the Red House. Plan to wait on Friday and Saturday nights. If you have a large party, I would highly recommend a reservation. read more

I will say 4 stars is spot on for the red house. Upscale bbq food in a fun restaurant setting. I got the burnt ends, fries and Cole slaw. The burnt ends were really good, the fries were homemade but could of been a tad more crispy. As with most bbq places the prices are high, so don't come here for a cheap night out. Found this place on Yelp. Threw a dart for a destination on our motorcycle, and the reviews looked great so jumped on the bike be took a ride. When we arrived, we noticed it was in the center of Deep River. It was an area we've ridden through many times before , yet never stopped to actually walk the area. It seems we've deprived ourselves all this time, because this place, has been the best thus far of all our random destinations. As we walked in, we were immediately welcomed by, who we assume, was the manager. He was on the phone but took that moment to acknowledge us with a smile, and gesture to let us sit anywhere we'd like. We made our way to the far end of the bar, giving us a panoramic view of the entire area. Within seconds we were greeted by perhaps the friendliest bartender we've encounter in months. We didn't catch his name at the moment but later learned it may be "Jordan". With a smile and greeting, he handed us our menus and offered what he had for drafts and craft beer cans. Besides the beer, the bar had an extensive selection of all types of liquors. We settled on 2 bottles of Miller Lites. We're working a Keto style diet so it was the best low carb selection. Beer was ice cold and Jordan served them to us 2 freezer chilled glasses, which helpers make every sip all that more better. The menu isn't large, and to us, that's a good sign. The smaller the menu, the more quality the food is we believe. And for limited selections, it's a good sign they've mastered each entree. We settled on what was reviewed was the best options. The pulled pork nachos and the Red House Burger. The nachos arrived first and at first look, we were immediately impressed. Far too often we're disappointed with bar nachos. Always a tall pile, with lackluster ingredients just thrown on top, leaving nearly all the other chips bare and tasteless. This was not the case here. Baked in an aluminum baking pan, was what I could best describe as a nacho lasagna! About 3 layers of even spread ingredients consisting of all their fixings! Each bite was full of flavor and cooked perfectly! Midway through, our Red House Burger arrived. The presentation was nothing short of a commercial advertisement! Between a brioche bun, was a mixture of prime sirloin, brisket and pulled pork, pressed into burger form, topped with maple smoked bacon and covered with melted Brie and a dollop of chipotle aioli. We devoured this work of art immediately and the only disappointment was we forgot to take it photo for the review. The food, along with the friendly staff, and our sparking conversation with another patron, cemented the fact we'll be returning to the Red House in Deep River very soon, and will surely being friends to experience. read more

We went there tonight. Pretty good. I had the ribs, my wife the fish tacos. I lived in Cali for a few years, so the tacos were not as good as I've had in the past. My wife liked them though. I had the ribs. I liked them. We also had the 'Pig Wings' as an appetizer (little chipotle ribs). I way over-ribbed it tonight. The Red House has a 'rock n roll' theme going on with big pictures of Jimmy Hendrix & Jerry Garcia bordered by album covers. There were like 3 too many Eagles album covers in the mix as far as I'm concerned. And a Stray Cats album cover. There were probably 36 album covers used as decoration, 5 of which were the Eagles, a Bad Company, & Stray Cats. I mean, there's a lotta rock in the world... I'm just going to say it even though I know it's taboo to say, but I hate The Eagles. I do. Don't get me wrong! Incredible musicians in that band. But even when I was young and it was cool to like them, I thought they were painfully vanilla. And Meatloaf... I am baffled by Meatloaf. Thankfully there is no Meatloaf album covers, or on the menu. Oh... and just to set the record straight, I did not hear one Eagles or Meatloaf song while dining. I just sort of went off on a tangent there. A band started at 9. It got a little loud. The bands don't start til 9, so if you don't like loud, go with the plan on getting out before then. The kitchen serves until 10. My fear is that The Red House will turn into a bar. Went on a recent Wed night with my wife, burnt ends and half rack ribs, food seemed old and reheated. Burnt ends were tough and fatty (we left them didn't eat). Ribs were just ok. Myself and K decided to try this place for dinner when we found ourselves in the area and overall it wasn't too shabby. First off the parking situation is pretty bad, seems like street parking only and not a great street for it. K and I decided on crispy cauliflower (buffalo) for an app. The cauliflower was on point but the sauce/cheese situation was suspect. Not nearly enough blue cheese and the tempura cauliflower is sitting on top of some smeared buffalo sauce so you don't get much buffalo; but pretty good overall. (Drizzling the sauce on top or tossing it in sauce would have been a game changer) Main meals we went with the 'good and grilled' (portobello sandwich)with a salad for me and sweet potato gnocchi for K. I liked my sandwich; great toast on it, was pretty heavy on the cheese but it was good. Salad was was legit too. The sandwich came with some pickles too that K was a huge fan of. K's meal was nothing to get excited about. There were come nice Brussel sprouts in it but the gnocchi was a bit burnt and it was a small portion size. We wouldn't recommend it. The Service was pretty good throughout. Friendly staff, and our waiter provided some solid banter. Wanted to give 3.5 stars but since that's not a thing I went with 3. It's pretty good, I'd try it again but nothing was great about the meal so I rounded down. read more

Outside appearance is meh but step inside and pleasantly decorated. Sat at a booth, large and comfortable. Draft choices were adequate, mostly local craft brews. Food was very tasty. 2 chicken bomb wraps were delicious, short rib pirogies just enough for a small plate for one diner and burnt ends were also wonderful. House made bread n butter pickles- yummy! I wish we could do half stars - I give Red House 3.5. Atmosphere and friendliness - 4.5 stars. Food is a 3. Short rib pierogi were a good bite - the filling and sauce very good. Better pierogi than you'll find at most restaurants. Ribs were very good. The hand cut fries are great. The burger is very forgettable, like so many burgers... :( It wasn't terrible but it was bland, with a dominating greasiness from the toppings. I desperately wish more places would take their burgers seriously, make sure they're well seasoned, stop focusing on being large, and balance them out with good fresh toppings. But anyway... The brick pressed chicken was quite good. Flavor was great, tender, juicy chicken. The sides were very disappointing - under seasoned and overcooked; bland and boring. Good beer selection, good specialty cocktails. Good service. OK food. read more

We have dined here a few times recently. The staff has been pleasant and the atmosphere has been welcoming to enjoy a family meal. I stopped in there pretty regularly for awhile. I went in on a busy weekend night and sat at one of only two places available at the bar. As I was waiting to order, the owner came up to me and told me I had to give up my seat as he wanted to seat a couple there. There was no place else to sit. No offer of a drink, no nothing: just go stand somewhere without even a drink. Maybe find a seat later just to be asked to give it up again? I left. If they want to use the bar to seat couples, fine, but don't make customers get up and move when there isn't even another place to sit. Most of the food is not very good and it's more expensive than other comperable places. Does the owner really think I would ever go back in there after that? Does he care? Doubtful. For some reason, some of the locals seem to like this place. Mediocre and expensive food along with poor service equals never again for me. read more

I had eaten at Red House once before and I will say that the food was decent - nothing special but not bad either. So we figured we would give Red House a try again. Let me just say, that I had a less than favorable experience, so here is the story. I have traveled to many pubs and breweries, and typically with a pint ranging anywhere from $6 to $10 dollars per pint, I will usually ask for a small taste of a beer before I order a full pour. Every beer is different, and the restaurant or brewery certainly isn't losing a fortune by providing their customers with a small sample of beer. When I asked the bar tender politely if I could try one of their IPAs on tap, and I mean a drop - he snarkily told me that he needed to refuse me because this beer was so incredible and in not so many words I would just have to basically take a leap of faith or deal?! After all "This beer is on the same level as Trillium". I have only had two places refuse to let me sample a draft beer and it wasn't so much the refusal but the way it was delivered. Let me just say, I ordered the pint - the beer was not close to the same level as Trillium, I left more than a drop in my pint glass on the table - and had a $135 dollar dinner elsewhere. $135 dollar drop. Bad day for the bartender, maybe? We all have them but you're in the service industry, so deal. So here it is, I'd give them a 3.5 on food, and bar service, at least with the person who waited on us a 1.5 - Red House 2.5 stars. read more
