    Tropical and water melon

Absolute buns. Firstly you had to pay with Venmo and you have to use their internet cause there's no reception. Got a watermelon and tropical fruit punch drink which was nice. However 6 dollars each not bad. Then got a pulled pork Mac n cheese which was dead serious worst Mac n cheese I've ever gotten in my life no seasoning, watered down, straight cheeks. Wife got the ceased wrap and honestly a homeless man couldn't done better. Just I don't even know what was going on with the people who decided to rate this place so high and the owners who clearly didn't try the food when they posted it on their menu. Have a good day everyone by not going here.

Great Breakfast lunch spot by marina in Chester. Amazing truffle fries, sandwiches, baked goods and more. Gonna be part of my morning walk when I visit Chester from now on!

    Cute little entrance

Asked a guy on our impromptu ferry ride where to get a good sandwich and he said, "follow me!" That's how we met Richard and Mario, the charming (with just the right amount of salty humor) pair who own this joint. The fries were piping hot and perfectly salted, the caprese panini had just the right amount of pesto, and the toffee chocolate chip cookie? To die for. They not only make the cookies from scratch... the toffee is homemade too. We're stuffed and happy. A great find before our drive back to NYC. p.s. thanks for the tip, Bob!

We came on a Thursday for trivia (which started like 30 minutes late) we got there at 6:30 and got our first drink orders pretty quickly- nice! Then it took about 15 minutes for our waitress to come back and take our food orders. There wasn't much of a crowd when we came in, mostly people closing out tabs. The food wait took about 20-30 minutes. 3 o us got our food. The waitress forgot to ring in my partners food entirely (and never came to check how our meal was, so I had to go physically find her and ask her about it) she lied and said the kitchen had missed it, which I didn't appreciate. Own up to your mistakes. (It was the last item rung in on the receipt, after beers we got later) His food was obviously rushed so it wasn't great. No offer to comp even a beer for the mistake. We ordered pretzels as an appetizer but they came out with the meal, so space on the table got tight. The pretzels were a bit hard and dry. We ordered two servings initially, but the 4 of us could only get through half. I got the chicken panini, which just didn't taste good as a whole sandwich, so I tried to just open it up and eat the chicken at least, which I literally couldn't because it was so dry. My partner's Ruben was chewy and flavorless, I'm hoping that is because it was made on the fly and a one off. One friend got the pattaconk burger which looked great- and he enjoyed the taste, but he couldn't eat it like a burger because as he was taking his first bite the entire burger basically disintegrated in his hands. Our other friend got some chilli hotdogs which he enjoyed. The beer selection is very wide and enjoyable. Prices are not listed anywhere for the beers so unfortunately, we paid $9.50 per draft. If the price was listed, we probably would not have gotten more than one, as that is a crazy price for draft beers. The waitress only came around 3 times in the entire 2 and a half hours we were there, and never even asked how our food was. Not that I would have complained because I'm usually not a complainer but this whole night just rubbed me the wrong way. There was no trivia night menu. The trivia was okay. It was not your traditional pen and paper trivia- it was on your phone, multiple choice and based on speed of answers. Biggest issue was that the pattaconk is located in an area with zero signal. Their free WiFi is extremely spotty and disconnected me from the trivia multiple times. We missed about a quarter of the questions because the page wouldn't load, which took the fun out of trivia. Our meal came to about 200$ for 4 people. Almost half of that was beer (8 total). Not worth the trip in my opinion, but we may have just had a cacophony of bad luck.

Contemporary wood paneled room with a window wall overlooking the river below. Expertly made martinis followed by watermelon beet and feta salad; and wild mushrooms with Parmesan bread crumbs, mint, fried rosemary and whipped ricotta. Both were very tasty expressions of the season. Our table raved over the tagliarini with a local beef, pork and veg ragu and a shellfish version with a spicy puttanesca. The menu changes regularly to highlight the best of the season and local producers. Sometimes it's nice to eat delicious food with no blasting music, at reasonable prices (app/salads: $12-16, most entrees high 20's to $36) just hanging with happy well fed adults enjoying conversation. It would have been 5 stars but for the forgetting of complimentary bread service until we asked for it during the entrees. The bread was mediocre and chewy. Our primary waitperson sort of disappeared for a bit. An evening special of soba noodles with julienne vegetables was really just a bowl of noodles with little evidence of any veggies. Regardless, I've recommended to about 10 people already today and I'll keep doing so!!

After a recent disappointing experience at RT with my son and father, I have to accept that the the initial positive experience may be the exception and not the rule. RT is located in Chester Center, which is a top CT town. Top tier location. The restaurant is cute, but cramped. After we were seated, a while passed before we saw our server. We were ready to order for 10 minutes and she still hadn't checked in with us. I told another employee that we wanted to see our server. She shook her head and we waited another 5 minutes. We finally were able to order. Then people who arrived after us, and ordered after us, received food first. Multiple tables. Through multiple service issues, there was no recognition from the employees about the issues. Our primary server asked how things were going when she first checked in with us. I told her the truth. And she didn't seem like she cared. She was apparently hoping that I would just say "good". The food was mixed. My son and I split a burger and an order of chilaquiles. The chilaquiles was good. The burger was medium rare rather than the medium we asked for. The burger was underseasoned. It may not have been seasoned at all. The bottom part of the bun was cut at a weird angle. As the juices flowed from the burger, it soaked the short side of the burger bun so that it was unusable. My Dad said his salad featuring peaches and nuts, barely had any peaches or nuts. I'm unlikely to eat at River Tavern again anytime soon. 2.5 Stars

A couple of random observations: Demerits if you will. No blue cheese olives for my martini? Come on! Here's how things went for me during my visit. Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the Connecticut River in Chester, CT connected to its own marina is this gem. Reservations are recommended especially in the summertime since THIS is the place where you wanna be. We were here in early April so things hadn't quite picked up, but at least the snow was gone and we didn't need to wear super heavy coats. The parking lot is massive so if it's busy you'll be walking for a minute before you get to the door. But once inside it's pretty modern, chill and relaxed. The decor isn't over-the-top. Everything is straight-edged and just... almost minimalistic. However, we sat in the patio area that was certainly heated so we could see the view of the water while the sun set. It was a wide-open setting and I'm very glad the restaurant didn't smash too many tables and chairs in there. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't remember having any issues throughout dinner. It was fairly slow so I didn't expect any hold-ups. Food/Drinks: I started off with an old-fashioned which was fine. Nothing crazy. Next up was a New England clam chowder which is perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Textures were good and so were the seasonings. Spot-on. For dinner I went with their Prime Rib! It came out perfectly medium-rare with a side of fingerling potatoes, grilled squash, au jus and horseradish sauce. It was good. Just... kinda not exciting. :-/ Maybe I should've gone the seafood route since we were on the water. But no matter. Value: Not too crazy here. It's a nice restaurant, but prices aren't out of control. You can totally come here to chill, have a drink and an app or a full-on family dinner and not be upset at the final bill. In conclusion I liked it here, just not enough to want to drive all the way out here again. Would I come back? Sure, if I were invited by friends and stuff, but I highly encourage you reading this to pay this place a visit and enjoy the views! Thank you for reading.
