Signs...that you are about to enjoy a good breakfast: 1) When you open the front door and find the place packed with locals - on a Friday morning. (But do disregard the handprints all over the glass door as you enter. Can we get somebody with some Windex and paper towels over here?) 2) You get a friendly greeting and a "sit anywhere" from a staff member the moment you walk in. 3) The menu is not foodie-oriented or overly inventive - but the items are a solid representation of classic American breakfast fare - without the cute names or high prices. I asked for strong coffee and got it. Unfortunately this pot might have spent a bit more time on the old Bunn warmer than it should have. It was late morning, so this is a forgivable oversight. My eggs were perfect; but the biscuits & gravy could use a little tweaking. The flavor was spot on; but the thermal temperature of the dish needed to be dialed up a bit - I like my food hot. The biscuits were not readily visible under the enormous pool of delicious gravy; and required extrication A shame to waste such tasty sauce on thin, flat biscuits. How about some big fluffy biscuits next time? The hash browns, however, were heavenly. A golden crusted nest of grated potatoes that were so light they would have probably floated off the plate had I not devoured them so quickly. So - the interior of the place is a bit shabby, but the food is good. The price is right. You should go. read more

This place seemed like it would be ok. They have a big breakfast and lunch menu. I like breakfast, but this wasn't anything special. The service itself was ok but it took way too long to get three breakfast dishes out. Our food came out fine, however my eggs tasted like onions for some weird reason. Ate breakfast here with my family, not a large party, a total of 4 people. We had to wait quite some time. It also took some time for our waitress to come to our table to get our orders. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered a skillet, and it was delicious and very filling. Highly recommend. For greasy spoon breakfast spots this is as good as it gets around our house. Never had a bad meal or bad service here in about 4 to 5 trips. You might have to wait for a table, but turn over is quick and if you are impatient they'll give you a cup of coffee while you wait. Open till about 2pm but never had lunch only breakfast. Bacon and hashbrowns sides are always cooked to perfection, just the way I order them. Amount of whipped cream on waffles will knock your socks off so be ready for it. I like to support local businesses that do it right. Nothing flashy in here just great food and great service, what else do you need? See you here for breakfast on the weekends. read more

What a find! Tucked into a little strip mall is an absolute gem of a breakfast eatery. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are huge; no one could dare shake a finger at the outstanding value. Service here is consistently fast and attentive, even when they're slamming busy after a Sunday-after-church rush they still manage to give outstanding service without the typical 30-45 minute wait! Even at their busiest the longest I've ever waited to be seated was 10 minutes. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast spot, it's worth going back to on a weekly basis! read more

Small cafe in strip mall location. We visited about 10am on a Saturday and there was a small line, but we were seated in just a few minutes. Enormous portions , selection is great and the breakfast among the best diner food I've had. Truly a hidden gem. read more

Food here is alright, but the service is absolutely terrible. The restaurant is just woefully understaffed. There's regularly empty tables, with a crowd of people backed in the doorway. When they added on to their space, they should have added more people or just made the new space a waiting area. read more

I was told by my client that this was a good lunch restaurant for "American food." I hadn't realized that included using "American cheese" instead of cheddar. Over all, the food was decent, but nothing I'd drive out of the way for. The menu is very predictable for these kinds of places: breakfast all day, club sandwiches, Rueben, tuna salad, wraps, basic burgers, etc. I was in and out faster than any other place I've eaten at recently and I'll keep that in mind if I'm in a hurry, but not wanting fast food. read more

My husband and I decided to take our kids out for breakfast on a holiday weekend. We drove to multiple locations that had at least a 30-60 minute wait. As a last resort we headed to the Red Geranium. There was a line, but not as long as the others, so we decided to take our chances. 15 minutes later we were seated at a table. I was so impressed with how fast the turnover was, without making people feel rushed. I got the Eggs Benedict, my husband got one of the skillets, and my kids each got a giant pancake. Everything was excellent. The portions were big, but not so big that we couldn't finish our meals. My kids are already planning what they will have on our next visit. Of the many years I've frequented Michigan St location, and this one , this is the first I've had a bad experience. The wait staff tried to move us to the " new area " which I found cold and bland, no atmosphere, no 'glad your here ' feeling. just blaaahh! Also, you have taken away the cafe experience of watching the line cooks do their work ( one of the fun things of coming here) you have installed a wall, how tacky! Then a TV screen at the "so called bar" that is so large I need to sit back 10' , plus I don't like looking at a wall 5' from me. We chose to sit in the "older area" which seemed to piss off the wait staff since our waitress was already overwhelmed with orders because other patrons had chose to sit in the "old area" which feels very cramped now that you installed " the Wall" between the kitchen and the patrons. So the atmosphere has gone because of bad design decisions,BLECH! And further on as I bitch, our waitress was very stressed & "itchy" ( however she received a generous tip) . Our food was cold ,the sw omelet -- chorizo was..where? Too many spuds ,no flavor. The American fries w/ onion ? cold........Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Also I used a coupon to get this delectable breakfast as purchase one and get one free, both Coooold! If you have ever been to a monster truck rally, you have experienced the noise level and this popular resturant. Potatoes flying, eggs frying and a wait staff that has to be part psychic. Besides the fact the manager spilled coffee on my GREY slacks, I thought it was a rather good breakfast. Their eggs really do taste better than the ones I make at home(....??) but they don't pay much attention to the bacon which was part not done and part burnt. It was, after a fashion, edible. Nice bagel, and a great waitress so I would go back. Grand Rapids has frequented this restaurant in various locations and at various times since the 70's, so I am willing to revisit them at some point in the future. I will however, turn my hearing aids off. And be sure my napkin is covering my pants. read more

Used to be a great place to eat- but sadly has gone downhill. The past 2 visits have been very very slow service. In addition, orders are wrong and the toast is typically burnt. They need to stop focusing on filling coffee cups and how to keep staff motivated to show up and work. We need more quality breakfast places in this area! read more

Stopped here for breakfast thinking it was more of a quick sandwich-type shop (or pre-made stuff) and pleasantly found it is a full-scale diner. It was fairly busy and seemed to have a handful of regulars which was a good sign. I sat at the "bar" up front (not sure what else to call it) and enjoyed watching the cook do his thing while I waited and ate. I got chocolate chip pancakes and eggs and bacon. The price was great for how much I got, the pancakes were huge, I had two and would have been fine with just one. The service was good and so was the food, exactly what you want from a place like this. read more

Whatever you do, don't order TO GO orders AHEAD of time! I ordered 6 TO GO orders for our lunch work the day before (Thursday) I was to pick them up. Asked to have them ready by 11:45 the next day (Friday). I get there at 11:45 and it's not very busy. Yet, the TO GO orders hadn't even been started. I stood around waiting for about a half hour. The manager in charge (I hope she wasn't the actual manager) barely apologized and when I asked for next time what time should I say I need them ready, she scolded me and told me I should have called them in THAT MORNING (during their busy rush time for breakfast) because the person who took the order the day before had just taped it on the wall and they didn't know anything about it until I got there. Hmmmm. I highly doubt that. Either way, she was not very apologetic, although she offered me $10 off our next order (whoopee for a $66 takeout order!). I don't know that we will ever order out from there again. Sad, because this is (was?) one of my favorite places to go. Food was good, but the whole experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. :( read more

Really bummed about the service at red geranium on clye park, wyoming michigan. My wife and I went there this morning for our first time. The menu looked good so we thought we would try it. We got there and the hostess said it would be a ten minute wait. I said ten minutes as long as it would not be 30 minutes. She replied she can predict. Fair enough. We were called and we were sat at a high top table. Ok, I suppose if thier are no more available. Well, we were seated and 4 other couples were seated in less than 5 minutes. I am not 23 anymore and I think the hostess wanted to prove her point. I asked the waiter about it and he went in one side of the dining room to the other and just left it at that. He did not Inform us or ask if we would like to be moved, which is why I was asking since 4 other couples went and sat down right after us. I suppose thier is prejudice everywhere.
