The food wasn't bad, but it just seemed so Americanized. The price was great. I did get sick later. The menu didn't offer a lot of choices for sushi, even with the extra sushi menu, but sometimes having too many choices is a bad thing. I could not find smoked salmon anywhere on the menu, but my waitress asked the sushi guys and had a roll made for me. The scallop roll sounded really good but wasn't. The menu had me thinking of these succulent juicy scallops seared in a skillet and wrapped with rice and cucumber. What I got was a roll with thin slices of raw scallops. They weren't cooked in the slightest. I brought it up to my waitress who whisked it away to return within a minute with slightly cooked fish. I asked how they can cook it that fast while it's still rolled up and she said they sear it with a torch. No they don't. That's flame broiled, not seared. Type in seared scallops to google and look at images. Then compare those pictures to mine. I thought the fried rice was oily, but the wife liked it. I really liked the beef in it. The crab Rangoon was a bit better than average. My wife liked her Big Boy roll. We had to ask for silverware and chopsticks. I had to find my own napkins, which I had already found because I couldn't get any towels from the dispenser in the restroom. Also, why do they expect their guests to read their door knob instructions and learn how their door knobs work while using the bathroom? Isn't this a problem that the Home Depot can easily solve? My favorite part was the chop sticks that had been tied with rubber bands for children. Our 25 month old took to that right away and had fun with it. The most important thing was that the wife liked her meal. Also the two of us were able to share with the baby and with 3 beers and tax, we were only out $50. I decided that this meal was worth 4 stars, but an hour and a half later, I threw up most of the sushi. Aside from that episode, I wasn't ill, and I'll admit that I could have gotten sick for any reason. I'm not a doctor and unless I get violently sick, I won't see one. Given the fact that this is incredibly rare to happen to me, it's too much a coincidence. I'm nearly up to 400 reviews and probably 350 of them are for restaurants. This is the first time I have left a review for a restaurant ... My teenage daughter and I visited Red Fish yesterday for lunch. The food was good. However, their menu is misleading ... As a family of 6 we live on a limited budget. We were careful to order within what we could afford & still leave a nice tip. When we received our ticket we were charged more than double what the menu stated. I asked our waiter for a menu to double check the price. Indeed we were overcharged! I asked him to point out on the menu which item & price we were charged. He couldn't find anything to match what we ordered and what we were being charged. He said he would ask his manager to see if he could recharge the stated menu price or receive some sort of discount. After a few minutes he returned and said that the manager said "No". (We ordered off the dinner menu so I know we were NOT looking at lunch prices.) What? I was confused, frustrated, and embarrassed. In the 20+ years of our family frequenting restaurants this has never happened. I have NEVER been over charged (by more than half what was stated). And then to be offered no help or explanation. I feel like I was taken advantage of. We will NOT return to this restaurant. I have included a photo of one of the dishes we ordered: #2 Salmon Sashimi $4.95 - but we were charged $10.95. Food was just ok, a little flavorless. We had sesame chicken and teriyaki chicken with broccoli. The sauce was like colored water. Also pour customer service. Three employees walked by as I stood at the front door not one welcomed me. Even the cashier at the desk, at the front door, was on the phone looked up and looked back at her screen, never spoke. She didn't take any information and just didn't seem she knew a lot she might've been new not gonna make much fuss about it that's fine. If I could rate a 0 I would! The service at this location has progressively deteriorated and tonight we were seated and waited 10 minutes with not even an acknowledgment. I believe this place used to be a Red Koi, but this was our first time to eat here. As of early September, 2019, they are still working on their liquor license. The Fire Roll sushi was very good. My wife got the chicken teriyaki Early Bird Special Bento Box, and it was huge! The dish was PACKED with all kinds of perfectly sautéed veggies! Added mushrooms, and I'm hard-pressed to think of any other eating establishment that's given me that many mushrooms as Red Fish did. Completely surprised me. Also, plenty slices of chicken. Solid dish. The mother got their Chicken ramen. Big bowl. Unfortunately, way too many noodles, and the broth was totally flavorless. Not worth getting. They have a lasagne section of sushi on their menu, so if that's your fav, this place certainly had several things to pick from. As Misty R. mentioned, dining in Lakeland is somewhat limited, so it's nice to find good restaurants in the area. And I really like this one. Red Fish is in a great location on the corner of Houston Levee and Hwy. 64. It's a small place, and the food is great. They have both Chinese and Japanese options available, but I have only tried the sushi so far. I was very pleased with the quality and freshness of the fish - a definite must. And the rolls were both attractive and tasty. I also had tuna ngiri, which was especially delicious. The prices are about right and the atmosphere is pleasant. I will definitely go back, and maybe try the Chinese food next time. read more

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area I have been lucky to eat at some fantastic sushi restaurants. Visiting Memphis I figured the sushi would just be "ok ... nothing special." Boy was I wrong! I would put Red Fish up against my local faves & it would be hard to decipher which I liked better! My family & friends in Memphis come here weekly & now I can see why. Such creative & flavorful rolls. We sat at the bar & all the sushi chefs were personable & entertaining! They even made us a few special rolls--we just told them our favorite ingredients & then they went to work. The service was great - several servers checked on us throughout our dinner & made us feel so welcome. I'm only here for a a few nights but I've already decided that I have to come back before I leave. P.S. The Yelp deal is a no-brainer - $20 for $30! read more

Sent my son to pick up curb side, after 45 minutes he called for the third time from the parking lot and they said "oh- it's been ready for 20 minutes, come on in". Obviously negates curb side. Once I made it home it looked right at the top but it was the same chicken underneath it all with 'burned' vegetables. I was DISGUSTED. They picked most of the chicken out and tried to play me. If the initial entry into Red Fish would have been better, this would be a 4 star review. It seems the front door staff still hasn't learned to pay attention and at least offer a greeting or some kind of acknowledgement to arriving customers. The cashier just prattled away on the phone while customers waited nearby. The hostess came and went with no greeting either. There were approximately 8-9 people waiting by the door and one person picking up a to go order. Finally we were seating and Jessica was our server. I'm a regular here as I usually find a coupon to use and this time was no different. $10 off $40 isn't chump change and my party took full advantage of the savings. Red Fish sushi is at times great and other times downright bland, so every once in a while I'll get the General Tso chicken. It's the standard breaded chicken fare with sweet hot glaze, broccoli, and white rice. The chicken chunks are actually full of chicken and not bread balls. The vegetable lo mein is a sizable portion and plenty enough for two people to eat. My group also ordered the standard spicy tuna roll and ubiquitous Philly roll. The "specialty roll" for the night was Dynamite roll, while jam packed with seafood, it wasn't a hit with my fellow diners. Located few signals off of I-40, we found this place cause it was open on New Year's Day. We ordered the Mongolian chicken and the Scallop and Lobster roll. For a chance we failed ourselves of the take out menu for the first and last time. $55 for three entrees, what a disappointment, not a single one of us finished our dinners and everybody hated the fried rice, more like leftovers that had been warmed in a microwave and turned into gritty rice shaped pellets.
