Golden City is definitely my favorite Cantonese restaurant in Memphis! The flavors are very authentic, and there's almost always a table available, so you rarely have to wait. This is definitely a place that any foodie craving Chinese food should try. Their Peking duck is probably the best value for the money in Memphis. My family and I always order way too many dishes when we come here, and there's always enough left over to take home and enjoy later. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the food can take a while to come out, and the checkout process is also pretty slow. Went to celebrate the birth of my cousin's new baby Saturday. We had a very fun time. Most of the food was pretty good. Some were quite salty. There were a lot of attendees at the party so cooking for many can be challenging. We started with fried rice that was quite tasty. Next we had a roasted chicken, Peking Pork, Beef flat noodles, lotus root vegetable dish withe Chinese Sausage, mushrooms and fried tofu and Chinese broccoli and mushrooms. We had a shrimp dish that was supposed to be shrimp and lobster sauce but did not look like the normal one. Service was good. There were many tables but the food came out as fast as possible. We have only been to Golden City two or three times, but it has been really great each time! This is one of the most authentic Asian restaurants we have found in the area! The food was fresh and came out around the same time. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. The service was also pretty quick even though it was busy inside! 6-21-26 We were there for lunch because my spouse wanted Cantonese food. I am not a big fan of this place. We put in our order. The service was good but the food was so so. The Fried Wonton was bad and it was fried with old oil. The whole Bbq Roast Duck was okay. It lacked any flavor but at least it was a whole duck. The Bbq Roast Pork or Char Siu was pretty bad. They served old refrigerated or old meat and they doctored it up with something. I wanted to send it back but other family members didn't want to say anything. The Beef Flat Noodles had small portions of meat with no flavor. The Seafood Soup was okay but little bits of seafood. The Black Mushroom with Chinese Broccoli was okay with little mushroom but it had no flavor. The Sizzling Scallops was okay with onions, bell pepper and black pepper. Overall, the food meal had no seasoning whatsoever and the portions were not consistent enough to warrant the price point. We want be back. The service was extremely poor. They were most attentive to the larger table not us.
