Went to celebrate the birth of my cousin's new baby Saturday. We had a very fun time. Most of the food was pretty good. Some were quite salty. There were a lot of attendees at the party so cooking for many can be challenging. We started with fried rice that was quite tasty. Next we had a roasted chicken, Peking Pork, Beef flat noodles, lotus root vegetable dish withe Chinese Sausage, mushrooms and fried tofu and Chinese broccoli and mushrooms. We had a shrimp dish that was supposed to be shrimp and lobster sauce but did not look like the normal one. Service was good. There were many tables but the food came out as fast as possible. All in all everything was okay but in the past it has been better. I know I will return to have some other dishes soon. read more

From the time we walked in they were busy with a few birthday parties going on, but they were on it with seating us and taking our orders in a timely manner. We have only been to Golden City two or three times, but it has been really great each time! This is one of the most authentic Asian restaurants we have found in the area! The food was fresh and came out around the same time. Our waitress was nice and took good care of us. The service was also pretty quick even though it was busy inside! Updating my review from three years ago, and I'm happy to say Golden City is as good as ever. We recently went for our family Sunday brunch and ordered a variety of dishes. The Peking duck was a standout favorite, along with the ribs and beef chow fun noodles. We enjoy eating family style, and the service was welcoming and friendly as always. The ONLY reason I'm scoring the way I am, was because the peaking pork came out real hot! Almost like scorching hot (microwaved?). Or, it's just hella fresh! Place is always packed staff is very friendly. The family is always there very surprised the oldest girl has not been put to work yet. Ordered seafood pan fried noodle and there was very little noodles and just a couple of pieces of seafood. The beef noodle soup that used to be served in a large bowl; now smaller. I have ordered my favorite dish of Kung Pao Chicken for at least 40 years! I was looking forward to ordering here due to their ratings. Boy, was I disappointed!! This is my final visit to this restaurant. The one star rating is only for effort, because there is no lower rating available....I ordered chicken with broccoli and garlic sauce. When I asked for the garlic sauce, the employee seemed to not understand my request. I'm not sure why he was surprised when this is a frequent order of mine when visiting various Chinese restaurants....I opted to choose the lunch special chicken with broccoli, but I requested that my broccoli be well done. Once I arrived to pick up my food, I looked at my food and didn't like how creamy my sauce was. The chicken was pale white as if it had been boiled or barely sautéed. When I asked why the the chicken was so white, the man looked at me as if he could have thrown a tantrum. He said, "It's white chicken." I said, "Sir, I eat chicken most of the time, regardless of where it is purchased from. I know the difference between white and dark meat chicken. I'm afraid to eat it because I'm not used to chicken looking like this. I want a refund." He angrily entered my card number to refund my money as he huffed and puffed. He didn't even offer an alternate meal. As I waited to receive my card and receipt, he looked at me and asked, "What are you waiting for?" I told him that I was waiting for a receipt. Then I said, "You seem to be upset, but no worries because this is my final visit. Most of the time I get a receipt or sign for a refund." I also asked to see the manager. Based on the recent article in Commercial Appeal, we tried Golden City. It was TERRIBLE, The absolute worst Chinese food I have ever had. Spent 18.95 for the CA recommended Salmon with peppers. Salmon was broken into a few bite size pieces and was extremely oily and fishy tasting. Even the rice was dry and flavorless. The entree did not include anything extra. No soup, no salad. just a nasty meal. Whoever wrote that article raving about Golden City must be getting a kickback. BUYER BEWARE. Do not ever go to this restaurant.
