After getting a great tip on a good restaurant we found our selves beside the Mystic River in view of the historic draw bridge. My son and I were at the end of our day and Hungry! Crystal was great as were all of the staff very high class and professional ( don't worry, dress was casually nice). 1. I found a new addiction to my charcuterie board, salmon chips (flaked smoked salmon , aioli sauce , capers on fresh homemade chips I would fly back to Connecticut for the Lobster Carbonara ( fresh made pasta firm crunchy peas) my son was sad he didn't order it for himself . You can call them to make a reservation. We weren't that hungry, and the two of us ordered 2 mystic oysters, lobster Mac and cheese, and the seared scallops (with truffle Mushroom risotto). The Mac and cheese was good but not necessarily a must have. The lobster was a little sparse than I would have wanted and the cheese was concentrated on the bottom, but it did come hot. The scallops entree was delicious - came with 5 small/medium sized ones on top of a risotto that had full truffle/Mushroom flavors. I appreciated the fresh herbs and garnishes on top. read more

You can't beat the waterfront location! Plenty of outside and semi-outside seating (covered roof but open sides), and even the seats inside have nearly clear views of the river as well. We had oysters and a flatbread for appetizers -- the flatbread was a huge hit with the kids even though it had a lot of arugula on it. For meals we had a tuna tartare, lobster Cobb, tuna burger, and lobster grilled cheese. Only mild complaint was that the tuna burger was actually thin slices of seared tuna steak, so it was messy to eat (but still delicious). The dessert menu looked great but our birthday boy wanted to head out for ice cream. We will be back! read more

We picked this place solely by location looked nice by water. Food was very average and the service seemed understaffed so slow.

Pretty busy place for a weeknight. Host stated it would be an hour wait that thankfully was only a 20 minute wait. Lounge area was pretty full. The waitet we had was awesome and had a great sense of humor. The food was delicious but portions were on the smaller ends. The drinks were definitely top notch though and delicious. I wouldn't recommend it with kids unfortunately. It seems a bit on the classier end to bring kids to. read more

The views, food, and service are phenomenal. Although this is my first review on Red 36, it has not been my first time dining at their establishment. Whether it's the Hanger Steak or Salmon (etc.), you cannot go wrong. Even their cocktails are of fair price and grand taste. Any one recommendation from my friends Kathleen, Karen or Catherine would be enough to persuade me. When all three tell me that Red 36 in Mystic is a great restaurant, it skyrockets towards the top of my CT Try List even though I live an hour away. Red 36 is a seafood restaurant in a part of Mystic I had never previously thought to visit. It's on the opposite side of the water and further coast-ward from places like Sift Bakery and Oyster Club. It never drew my attention because it's not in the shop and restaurant-heavy area of Mystic. A good thing about being part of the Yelp and CT Foodie Community, is that your friends help you eliminate your blind spots. Because of how it's situated in the harbor, Red 36 basically has a 360 degree view of the water and docked boats. The inside looks modern and nice. Service was very good. When I visited, I was in the middle of a food crawl and I wasn't crazy hungry. I figured a few different raw bar items and a local Beer'd IPA would be the way to go. I ordered shrimp cocktail, a cherrystone and a Mystic Oyster. The raw bar items were perfect. As I've gotten older, I've really gravitated to raw bar when I visit seafood restaurants. Fish dishes can be hit or miss, but raw bar at a great place rarely disappoints. The Beer'd Double IPA called "Dogs and Boats" was great too. Now that I know about Red 36, I'll be back! Came here recently on a Saturday night for dinner. It was very busy around 8pm and we were quoted a 90 minute wait for 2 people. We left to go for a walk downtown and ended up getting a text for our table 10 minutes after we put our name down, which was surprising (and a bit annoying as we had already started walking) - but I'd rather end up waiting less than more! We were seated at a table right next to the outdoor area facing the marina, so we had a lovely sunset view. Unfortunately the restaurant was all out of clams already so we were not able to get any dishes with clams. Got a crab cake to start which was alright, nothing to write home about. My lobster roll (hot & buttery style) was delicious - plenty of lobster meat, and fries on the side were also nice and fresh. My friend's scallops were also tasty. It was pretty busy at the restaurant so a little hard to flag down the server at times, but she was very friendly. Would recommend this spot for dinner in Mystic! read more

Getting a table in the deck is pretty easy for two. Plenty of dueces. Fish is fresh, lobster roll outstanding with just butter. I dont recommend it any other way. The vibe of this restaurant was great upon walking in, although very busy inside. We were seated on the outside deck which looked nice, but the sun was very strong that day so it became too hot very quickly (bigger umbrellas or shade sails would be great). The white outdoor table was super sticky (maybe because they are painted?). It was annoying to deal with throughout lunch and felt gross. The utensils also did not look very clean. Service was just ok. One person in our party asked about dairy in the fried oysters, got a weird look from the waitress who stated there wasn't any, but she'd double check with the kitchen - turns out there was. The menu looked good and the raw bar oysters we had as an app were wonderful. However, our entrees left a lot to be desired. The tuna poke bowl had refrigerator cold rice and Mexican tasting guac that threw the dish off. I only ate the tuna off it, which had no flavor (poke is supposed to be tossed in a light sauce mixture). It was the worst version of poke I've ever ordered. The fish and chips was so over-fried it was dark brown - we should have sent it back and I regret not doing so or taking a photo of it. The lobster roll was tasteless, lacking seasoning and it was hard to know if were were even eating lobster. Was not worth the the bill at all and don't see ourselves visiting again. read more

Red 36 is just my favorite place to dine when in Mystic! This was my friends first time and she absolutely loved it as well! We are both huge foodies and I actually run a food blog but I will say I've never had a bad meal here ! You can't beat the boat views as well! There's something about the New England charm that makes you feel at peace ! I enjoyed all of our meal but I'd have to say the lobster Mac and Fish and chips will always be my favorite ! At first impression, this place is noisy.... BUT ssshhh! there is a secret quiet upstairs area you can sit in with other diners. Half is open air half is not you take your chances, nice area either way.We found out about it by talking to Brittney our original server, what a doll! As you can see, the menu has many options for the picky eater as well as casual dining options. My husband has the fried cod sandwich with house fries. The coating on the fish was light and fried perfectly! The fries were still hot and crunchy,yummy! He also had the house specialty drink which was a toasted coconut. This drink was recommended by our upstairs server, Erin. What an incredible lady!! It blue with an edible orchid on top! Really nice presentation, also delicious! My friend Laurie had the fried fish dinner. She said the fish was excellent but the fries were underneath the fish, which made them soggy. I had the lobster Cobb salad and added the skirt steak, calling it a surf & turf. It was excellent! The steak was so tender I could've cut it with my butter knife and I had generous amounts of lobster in my salad. I was not disappointed! I will go back! The service was phenomenal! Best place to go to eat for a view. We went for lunch (right at opening) and it was gorgeous! Ask for a space on the patio with a good view and recommend getting there around 11:15 for a great spot in line. Food was fantastic and drinks were even better. Hate to say this but Red36 is a hard pass. We had heard of the great food scene in Mystic, and Red36 was also recommended by the proprietor of another restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful. Had a lovely table on the patio with great views. Our server, Holly, was terrific. The food and drinks were awful. The drinks tasted watered down, and even after returning one, the replacement martini was weak and lacked any zing. The scallops were blah, pretty tasteless. The paella dish is a pile of risotto with bits of also tasteless clams, mussels and chicken. Both dishes came with gloppy risotto that seemed like it came from a Rice a Roni packet. It was all edible but not well prepared. Perhaps go for the view, the service, and maybe get a beer and burger. Avoid the rest. read more

We were seated on the outdoor deck, where the view and atmosphere were both great. Our waitress (forgot her name, sorry! Think it was Morgan?) was incredible, & really made our whole dining experience super comfortable and fun. The food & drinks here were both really delicious!! I ordered a watermelon cucumber southside, & it was refreshing without skimping out on the booze. For our party of 4, we started with shrimp cocktails, mussels fra diavolo, fried oysters, and the caesar salad. All were super well seasoned and yum!! For entrees, we split the sea bass, NY strip, lobster roll, and seared scallops. I wholeheartedly mean it when I say this was by far some of the best food we had in CT. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly, seasoned well, & delicious. No complaints at all! We walked in and put our name in. We met with a GREAT bartender who made wonderful drinks while we waited. Very nice layout with great nautical views. The food came out very timely and was perfect. Rain came in and we were sat quickly inside. We love this place. My only disappointment was that a couple were allowed to have their dog sit on the couch on the deck. After they left, a family with a young child sat there and the child was climbing and playing where this dog sat. I told the waitress and she said they allow it. Bottom Line Up Front: This restaurant has everything going for it: great tasting food, happy and helpful servers, location, atmosphere, and the price is right. To be honest,Red36 exceeded expectations. We ordered the Sesame Salmon Burger, the Mexican Salad with chicken, Korean Pork Lettuce Wraps, and a side of Fried Brussels Sprouts. Everything was very tasty and excellently prepared; we ate every morsel. We liked our food so much we had to try desert. We sampled the 1) Strawberry Shortcake, 2) Brownie Sundae, 3) Turtle Cheesecake and the 4) Key Lime Pie Cheesecake. All were fabulous, but in our group, the shortcake and sundae were the top two deserts. The restaurant is clean and the staff was very helpful. There is plenty of parking on site, but get there early as I predict that it will fill up quickly. We sat up on the outer terrace that overlooks the marina and the rotating railroad bridge. I came on a cloudy Saturday afternoon for lunch. There weren't any window seats available, but the waitress was able to accommodate us by seating us in the covered outdoor area. My party got several dishes to share: 1. PEI mussels 2. Steamed little neck clams 3. Fried clam strips 4. Clam and bacon flatbread 5. Linguine and clams 6. Fried oysters The star of the meal was the PEI mussels dish. They're steamed mussels paired with this amazing sauce of chorizo, white wine, tomato, basil red peppers and garlic. The sauce wasn't heavy and buttery like a lot of seafood dishes, and the mussels were plump, tender and super fresh. The fried oysters were also pretty good, each oyster was perfectly crispy, and delicious when consumed piping hot. My favorite sauce for that was the Sriracha aioli. The clam and bacon flatbread was probably my least favorite. The bacon was strangely distributed on one side of the flatbread, and the dish was just generally on the saltier side. I also couldn't taste much of the clam flavor since it felt like the cheese and the bacon dominated the dish. Everything else was pretty good, service was friendly, bathrooms were clean. We went during the height of the pandemic, so I apologize if this review is a little (lot) late, but Red 36 popped up on my review suggestions and I wanted to share my thoughts. There is always a wait. There's a long line. You can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait, however. Ambiance is enchanting. Lots of parking. Tons of outdoor waterfront seating and plenty inside as well if the weather doesn't cooperate. Very seafood forward, although there were a few other options. Food and service was great and they were very observant of masking and covid protocols. My son and I had both a hot and a cold lobster roll and went halvsies- I'm pretty particular about my lobster rolls (I prefer the cold ones), and this was excellent, truly the best I'd had in a very long time. I strongly recommended Red 36 to a coworker who was asking for Mystic recommendations a couple years later. I hope their quality has endured these past few years, if/when I return to Mystic I'll definitely be returning! read more

I'm very disappointed in my experience, but I think there is room for improvement. To start, I called several times throughout the day so I could ask if they took reservations, or names, what the parking situation was like etc. Nobody answered. EVER. This is completely unacceptable. What if I needed to ask about handicap accessibility? Allergies? I couldn't even leave a message. If you need ANY special help, this restaurant is not for you. A note to management: no excuses, you need to SOLVE this crucial issue. Customers need to be able to call to ask questions. For parking, there is a lot, it was very full but we found a spot, you may have to park back near the Main Street and walk (though not too far). Their entire system for seating is archaic. My boyfriend and I came at 7pm, and they were slammed at that moment. They said it would be about a 3 hour wait and they were no longer taking names. Coincidentally, a couple was leaving the bar, which is first come first serve, so we were able to snag these seats. I assumed they would have people coming to claim each seat at the dining tables as people left. They didn't. After about 8pm, tables were empty and customers stopped coming in. If there was such a wait... where were all the people!? It started to empty out. What a loss of business. If you are still dying to come to this restaurant, just come later... there were plenty of tables. It's 2021, they don't know how to fill up the restaurant? The hostesses were looking at laminated pieces of paper with a table layout... there is software for this. Get to it. The bathroom was ATROCIOUS. Honestly I was shocked. There was toilet paper all over the stalls, paper towels all over the sink, it was BAD. We sat at the bar and service was slow but fine. I got a frosé drink that was actually delicious and I would recommend. We got the "tier 1" which is a raw bar plate of oysters, clams, and shrimp. It was good. I did ask what "steamers" were - as I'd never heard of that - and the server told me it was like clams, but with tails. I asked if you could eat the tails or if it would be like shrimp where you have to peel the tails... and she was not sure (!?), so we didn't get that. I did google it and yes you can eat the tails. For dinner, I got the scallop risotto and my boyfriend got the lobster carbonara. Both had issues. The scallops were SALTY!! So salty. Why? Seafood does not need salt like this. The lobster was very rubbery... not great. The carbonara was fine. The whole meal cost over $100 which is fine, but the quality of the food and the experience was lacking. As it stands, I would not recommend it or go back. I hope management is able to take a look at their customer's experience and make some adjustments. We hit it on a beautiful day, all the doors were open, temperature perfect, sun was shining, just that alone was worth the drive. I ordered a sesame salmon sandwich. It was good. Had a LOT of seeds, a lot.. I would like to go back and try something else, not that I didn't like my sandwich, just to try the other pescatarian friendly dishes. It was very busy.
