New to Flagstaff, I went here because it was rated as "Best of" multiple times. If this is the Best there is in town, there's a big business opportunity for a new salon... I called and got a next day appointment, which was fine for me, although they apologized for not being able to get me in same day. I've been to Aveda salons in Chicago and Boston. This place is more like an old salon that just happens to sell Aveda products. It's not at all like the other Aveda's I've been to, it's dated and in no way upscale (even mid-scale). The stylist I saw was pleasant enough. I was there just for a one process color, no cut. She did a good job with the color...aside from the fact that it was several shades darker than my current color. Sigh. It was glossy and it wore well for several weeks, so I'll give her that. And she did blow it out very well, I was very happy with that. However, my two main complaints with my visit were: 1 - there was NO HOT WATER at the sinks. She didn't tell me this until we were walking toward the sinks. If I had known there was no hot water, I would have rescheduled my appointment. Instead, she washed my hair out with ice cold water. She added a deep conditioning treatment "on the house" given the water situation. I wish I'd rethought that one, since it meant she had to rinse my hair again 10 minutes later, after I'd finally warmed up (this was in February, it really was freezing). 2 - the cost. Again, I just had a one process color and was charged $75. Are you kidding me? I still am appalled by that, months later. I haven't been brave enough to try any other salons in Flagstaff if this is the Best of Flagstaff, I just make sure to schedule appointments when I'm traveling out of town... read more

The folks at Red 115 anger me so much. I had to cancel a spa appointment last week to help friends whose homes were damaged by the freak tornadoes that hit Bellemont (small bedroom community near Flagstaff) that early morning and the person on the phone chastised me, asking me to next time give them 24 hour notice because I had now messed up 3 people's schedule. HELLO?! Did you not hear me say that my friend's house was hit by a tornado 3 hours ago and that is why I have to cancel? I still have the spa gift certificate and I will never use it because I want nothing to do with them. I've been using Aveda products for years and used to pick my stuff up there but will now order it online or get it in Phoenix, just to not give them business. read more

I'm not going to name names, but PLEASE don't go here for highlights. I walked into the salon at 11 AM and didn't get out until 3:30 PM. I left with WET HAIR after 4.5 hours. When I got home and dried it myself, you couldn't even tell I had my hair highlighted. Literally- I haven't ONCE worn it back because you can still see the roots as much as the day I walked in Red 115's door. In the 4.5 hours, I THINK I MAY have had 10 foils put in. Absolutely absurd. I can't help but laugh. I went on vacation for 2 weeks after the appt, so didn't actually call and complain- so I feel like I'm bein a bit passive aggressive with this post- but I'm THAT unhappy. What a waste of $150. Sorry guys, won't be coming back. read more

I give Red 115 2 stars because of the combination of a HORRIBLE recent experience there and two better ones. In total, I have seen three different stylists for haircuts. The two previous times, I had good haircuts and I was very satisfied with my cuts. The last time, I got a horrible cut. I left the salon barely holding back the tears. Shawna, my stylist, was TERRIBLE. She was over fifteen minutes late to my appointment (no explanation or apology given), and left early, before I was done, handing me over to an assistant. When I tried to explain what I wanted from her as far as a cut and a style... She insisted that she knew my hair texture better than I did, insisted that she had a better idea of how to cut my hair than I did, and proceeded to completely butcher my hair, ruining years of growth. Now I look like a clown with thinning hair. I HAD long, thick, and luxurious hair, albeit with a few split ends at the bottom. I just wanted those to be neatly trimmed (simple request, eh?), but she insisted that she knew better than I did, and gave me a horrible, ugly haircut. The only recompense that Red 115 could offer was a free haircut for next time. All I can say is, next time is going to be a LONG time from now! I have to grow out the damage. And I am definitely NOT going to book with Shawna. I advise you, dear reader, to do the same. Thank GOD, hair GROWS!! read more

DO NOT go to this salon! It was the worst experience I have ever had and I have been getting my hair done for years. I had my hair cut and colored by Leigha and she made my hair look terrible. She never apologized and her only solution to the problem was putting on a toner which would have not solved the problem. They still made me pay for the services even though I was extremely unhappy. Both her, the manager, and the owner were extremely rude and degrading. I left their salon crying and they were ok with that. I will never go back to this salon again! read more

I got a heavenly massage when here from Chicago 2 years ago...even went back next day for another cranial massage. Best ever! Unfortunately I didn't remember gals name. When I booked the trip back here, I booked a massage.....their FB page said Sara was back....so I thought that was the same gal I had in 2012. When I met her, I immediately knew it wasn't her. Needless to say, my cats give me a better massage!.I am still sore more than 24 hours later....she talked & we did laugh lot, but I didn't want yo be rude & tell her to be quiet. Don't waste your time and money here, no style at all. I came here to get my eyebrows waxed and left without any eyebrows. Not to mention they were also uneven, but that obviously didn't matter because I ended up with none. Didn't listen at all to how I wanted them done and I left with more than just irritated skin. I can tell these girls only know how to wax eyebrows that are either already incredibly thin or shaped and even then I have my doubts. If you want a horrible and expensive experience then come here. read more

My appointment took 6 hours which cost me a ton of money. It was he first time I was ever going to go light enough to need bleaching. At the end, I liked the color, or colors, I ended up with except a week later the red is pretty much gone besides a few streaks of blonde. I even bought their products that they said works very well with conserving color. Never again! read more

I had Brittany (not sure bout spelling her name) cut my hair, from longish to above-the-chin short. Really pleased with the results (cool/edgy). She also kept checking in with me about the length, taking it slow, even offering to see me back in a week if I decide to go shorter after I'm comfortable with living with short hair. I moved to flagstaff a few months ago and have been wanting to get my hair cut. I have previously had poor luck with hair cuts so I am always hesitant to go in. I recommend seeing April. I went here to get eyelash extensions and not only was disappointed with the eyelashes but had them all fall out in chunks in under two weeks and they took my natural lashes with them. They were completely different than when I got them a year before, too big, too think, itchy and just all together uncomfortable. I went back the same day and had to have them cut down. I called to talk to the manager after losing all my lashes to see A) what they were doing differently (since I've had them before, loved them and never had this happen) B) and to give them a chance to make it right. The manager offered me $15 off the next time I get eyelash extensions I DON'T HAVE EYELASHES and I don't trust this spa now. They told me they have a new esthetician that even the manager goes to. So the person who did my eyelashes the manager apparently doesn't go to but expects customers to. I hate complaining and I didn't want to complain about the girl who did my lashes because I ultimately think its up to the manager to make things right and this should have never happened in the first place. I can't even a product to grow my lashes back because I'm pregnant. I just think for $100 plus tipping the esthetician, I should be extremely happy with the service and if not at least offered a gift card or something that I can actually use. read more

I was greeted with tea (delicious). My stylist looked like fabio :) he was kind and very friendly. I got a scalp massage, hair washed, cut, blow dry, and styled. I felt like a diva, he made me feel like a brand new person. I have really long hair and he kept the lengths but put in lovely layers which makes for beautiful curls. Amazing salon and staff. When walking in you're greeted with a smile and tea or water. I had scheduled a last minute appointment because another salon had turned my hair bright yellow. I can't remember the name of my stylist however she was so sweet and helpful. She gave me all my options and prices and tried to salvage the health of my hair as well. If I were writing this review in any of the previous cities I've lived in like San Francisco or Boston, this salon would not get a 4 star review, but in Flagstaff, you tend to settle a little bit. This is a small tourist town where may people just want a quick cut and blow. Aveda staff is friendly and the salon is clean, plus I like the Aveda products. I did go through a few stylists when I first started going there, but have found Michelle and she's fantastic. I have thick wavy hair and sometimes people cut it as if it were thin wispy hair. She knows how to put the right amount of layering and texturing. In San Francisco, I would pay $85 for the same cut - here, it's $35. You do the math. read more

This is definitely the best salon in town. Yes, it maybe a little pricier than some places in town but I always get what I pay for. I would say to know what you want and research the price (all are listed on their website) if you're on a budget like me! I find it very affordable to get my hair styled because the shampoo and blowout/styling and even style maintenance i.e. bangs trim is included in the cut cost. my hair stylist name is Camaret and she does an amazing job!! I am disappointed. I went in to have highlights that were supposed to be tinted a violet colour. One I chose the colors, the stylist began to do her thing. It wasn't until she went to tint all the blond violet did she realize they were all out of the color I chose.. so she discolored it Brown! I cAme back weeks later to ha e it fix they way I originally wanted. It was so UNeven some of my hair was red and other areas maroon not violet. The stylist also said she didn't have time to blow it dry so I walked out with drenched hair without any product in it. Couldn't see the disaster she created infill I was home. The worst part that a few seeks later I couldn't see any highlights instead ALL MY HAIR WAS BROKEN OFF!!! NEVER AGIN WILL I WALK THROUGH T H OSE DOORS $150 down the drain! read more

The BEST staff ever. Sara and Alex do my hair and have been going to this Aveda Salon since I moved here in 2005. I recently wanted a platinum blond (ashy) and already had a blond/golden tone to it since I had it done there by Sara the last time. Alex did my new Do and unfortunately the golden did not want to come out. Alex spent about 2 1/2 hours on it. The next day I called and noticed that golden color back again...arg. So called Alex got me in and spent over 3 hours getting it to the PERFECT ASH BLOND IN THE WORLD! Didn't charge me a dime the second time! I TRULY LOVE AV EDA. I have been using Aveda products for over 20 years and my hair does actually grow below my shoulders!!! Thanks every time Aveda! Alex and Sara are the best!!!! read more

I had two TERRIBLE experiences at this salon in the past few years. The first time, I had highlights and a cut. When I left the salon and went next door to have a cup of coffee, I ran my hand through my hair and realized that there was a large amount of thick, slimy hair dye still caked in the back. I had to go back and have my hair re-washed and styled, which took about 30 minutes. No manager ever followed up with me about this or offered any discount as a courtesy. I went back to the salon a year or so later, to give it another chance, and had a stylist 2 months out of beauty school. She was abrupt and rude and did not listen to my requests. I asked for an overall darker shade of my blonde color, with a few hints of auburn. Against my wishes, she applied a burgundy wash to my whole head and dyed my hair very dark brown. It looked goth and freakish. When styling my hair, I asked that she part it just slightly off center and she replied, "I don't know, you have to have a really pretty face to part your hair like that, or at least have good make up." I called the salon several times to ask to speak with a manager about the experience. I wanted the color corrected. I was told a manager would call me a few days later but I never heard back. So, a few days after that, I called back. Instead of getting a manager on the line, the stylist herself got on the line and tried to "reason" with me about how she had done what I asked. I never heard back from an owner or manager and I was so amazed and disgusted, I never called again. It was slightly traumatizing! read more

Unfortunately I have to update my review. This week I went to Aveda for the final time. I got a color and a brow wax. To start... I wanted just my natural brown hair color. The stylist although friendly she was not able to make that happen and now it is dark brow/ black looks awful definitely not natural . Also there is dye all over my forehead and I have interviews and a wedding to attend this week. I feel for $75.00 they should worry less about about the hand massage and neck message and jut take more time so clients don't walk out with dye all over their faces. Seems to me that would be common sense. Next the brow wax. Yes, the woman was friendly but she used wax that was too hot and runny!!! She put the wax on so quickly it ran down my face( burning all the way) and got stuck in the hair by my ears! then it took about five minutes to get it out. I have never had a brow wax that unprofessional before. ugh. Overall Aveda is very hit or miss and the good stylist leave quickly. Chaunna is quite good if you can book her. I would have to say this salon is comparable to Super Cuts with Quality of haircut you will get, but with way higher prices. I recommend going to the smaller shops around town. They have less bells and whistles but I have found great stylists there with generally better quality and half the price. Just got back from Philly where I had my hair fixed at a salon called Lakshmi. All the stylist had portfolios and the woman who did my hair had a write up in the NYT. Only posting this fun fact because their shops prices were the same as this Flagstaff Aveda and they had way more talent and way more expensive rent being in a big city. I feel Red 115 needs to reevaluate their prices. You don't get what you pay for. read more

The stars for review are solely about customer service. For color, Red 115 does a good job and the staff are nice. However, customer service continues to fail. On my first visit to Red 115, I liked the stylist I saw, so I requested her again. I was told she wasn't working the weekend I could go, so I booked with another stylist. When taken back to the new stylist's station to begin our appointment, the stylist I requested was not only there, but working at the very next station. What the heck? Additionally, at this appointment, I asked the person booking it to allow extra time because I have a lot of hair. Well, she didn't, so my stylist was running 45 minutes late for her next appointment. Not at all fair to that next person. Then today, the salon called and said my stylist was out sick, but not to worry-- they had other appointments available today. I called back 15 minutes later and was told "sorry-- we're fully booked." What salon doesn't save appointment times for clients who have pre-booked services? It's ridiculously poor customer service and super inconvenient for people who work during the week. Looks like it's time to find another salon. One that can be counted on. read more

Very disappointed. I went to this salon because I heard it was the best. I got a terrible hair cut hair and just a few weeks later, the color is fading as well. I should have just gone to Super Cuts! I swear. When you first walk in, music is blaring - It was thump thump thump - too loud. The people working the front desk were squeeling about being "number one" and beating the "blue salon" - whatever that is. Finally noticed me and offered me tap water in a plastic cup. I spent 150.00 here, I feel really ripped off. And get this, once my stylist realized I wasn't going to be buying any of the Aveda prodcuts she kept pushing - she shut down and stopped talking to me. She was super nice the whole time, until it got to the sales pitch. Here's the kicker - she didn't style my hair. I had to ask her to flat iron it. She told me I could do this home myself. What? This place and its partner Red Ots Salon [same owner] give the Aveda experience a horrible name. As a longtime Aveda customer, I had high expectations and was disappointed and disgusted by Flagstaff's Aveda Salons. Every visit I made, I hoped it would get better. It seemed that once I found a hair technician I liked- that person would leave the salon or would be working at the other Aveda salon and I would have to travel a little bit further just to have the person I wanted to work on my hair. Both salons are dirty...from the hair all over the floor, the hair-washing stations amuck and the most disgusting thing I saw [on multiple visits] was the wax pot...wax all over the sides, hair stuck in the wax, wax on the counter and on the floor and all the ladies working would walk by it as if nothing was wrong, gross. One of the better hair technicians I had was pregnant, went on leave and never returned I was bummed out...the replacements I tried seemed to have remedial hair cutting skills and FORGET COLORING your hair.. Unless the Color Specialist (trainer) does your hair, don't expect anything spectacular (a friend of mine gets her hair colored by this person and it always looks fabulous- she is just hard to book with because she is the best). Overall both places are over priced and do not offer the typical upscale, high end pampering and services associated with the Aveda experience. It has lost its luster and the owner should consider consolidation of both shops, focus on cleanliness [first and foremost] and quality of their product [invest in extra training for staff, refurbish the salon or move into a better rental space to really sell the Aveda experience]. These places are simply to dirty and the skills of the hair technicians need to improve. I will still go in & buy the hair products because I love them so much! read more

After $230, my wallet is lighter, and my hair is an entire mess that can't be recolored for who knows how long. Avoid this place at all cost. I'll summarize my story for you. I have two very blonde streaks on the bottom layers of my hair. I wanted to go red for Christmas time and wanted to make sure it was done right. So I figured with Aveda being a well known name, this salon would be safe to go to. My hair was first bleached at the roots to "make my hair even". After that the red was applied. When I got home, I realized the shirt I was wearing had a huge bleach stain on the back and was ruined. I wasn't too phased, and figured it was a mistake. After the first wash, almost all the red color fell out. It was awful. The blonde streaks already showed through and my hair was light red mixed with pink. After 12 days and only 4 hair washes, my hair was the color of an ugly penny. I called and spoke with the manager named Heather. Heather was very sympathetic, offered to give me my money for the ruined shirt, and offered to have my hair recolored at no cost to me. I explained I just wanted brown and she agreed that would be ok. I was ready to write a wonderful yelp review at that time, but decided to wait until after the new color was put in. Once I arrived, I was taken to the style area and talked to the colorist about just making my hair one color, a light/medium brown. She told me because of the amount of color I had, they would have to do a color correction. This meant bleaching my ENTIRE head of hair. A different manager then approached me to let me know my service would not be free. Rather, they would add the price from the red color to the brown, and I would have to pay the difference. The difference was still $85 per hour. I mentioned how the last manager had told me otherwise, and offered to repay me for my shirt. This manager then said that they would deduct the money for the shirt for this new service, which would be about $60. I wasn't comfortable with this, but I also wasn't comfortable going home for Christmas looking the way I did. The stylist then performed all the agreed upon services. When I left, I noticed the back of my head felt a bit heavy. I had met a friend for dinner right afterwords, and she told me I had a huge spot of color dripping down the back of my neck! After an uncomfortable dinner I went home and showered. Once my hair was dry, I saw what a disaster of a color I have. I have a spot of bleach orange by my ear, brown, red, and my once blonde is now greenish grey!! I don't want anyone at this place to ever touch my hair again!! What upsets me is that as the colorist was drying my hair, she even mentioned aveda hair color isnt very strong. While this was supposed to be a "color correction", I cant even correct it again for several weeks because my entire hair has undergone an entire bleaching! What a waste of my time, money, and trust. Thinking of getting your hair colored here? Do yourself a favor and cross the street, go to Target and buy anything out of a box. You'll be better off. UPDATE: I went back the following day, and luckily Heather was the manager on duty. She was shocked that the other manager didn't honor her deal with me to fix me hair for free. She apologized, and I got all the money I spent there back. While I wont be going back for hair color again, and my hair is still a mess, I am pleased that someone here realized their mistakes and took responsibility for the actions of her employees. read more

I booked an appointment with Red 115 because they are an Aveda Salon and reasonably​ priced. I had been there once before to cut about 7 inches off and the total came out to $40 plus tip. I thought this price was fair for the job. After the experience​, I decided to book another appointment​ for a trim a few months​ later. I had assumed the haircut​ would be $40 just like last time, seeing as the woman I talked to on the phone did not mention an increased rate. After my haircut,​ I went to pay and found out the total was $52 plus tip. Apparently,​ this was because the ​woman who cut my hair was a "master stylist". I understand that some stylists​ charge more than others. With that being said, I would have appreciated​ if that was mentioned while I made the appointment. I was not anticipating​ that kind of difference in the total without it even being mentioned. I do not plan to go back because of the lack of communication. read more

While I have had mediocre to just okay experiences with stylists who previously worked at Aveda Red 115 (they have a super high turnover), I have also had THE WORST SALON EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE at this place. From crappy, overpriced haircuts to a color job I had to have Kat at Tirzah (now at Crinosity) fix, the overall quality of this place is in the gutter. They cycle through stylists like nobody's business. (I have heard this is because of overbearing, awful management.) And while the botched color job - so bad I was terrified to return and have the stylist attempt to fix it - was horrendous, it was a pedicure that left me with toenail fungus that was the tipping point. Do not go here. Try Kat at Crinosity (the best stylist in town) or Shawna at Tirzah. Unless, of course, you want fried hair and moldy toenails. In that case Red 115 is your best bet. read more

My stylist at this salon is GREAT! Good cuts and very good/creative with color. If it weren't for her, I would probably go elsewhere because the inside of the salon is dirty and dated. The walls are now painted puke brown with a wannabe spa theme. Add the random red and yellow walls and you'd think you were at McDonalds! The stations and mirrors belong in a punk salon straight out of the 1980's!! What's with the hardcore metal and outlets dangling from the ceiling - in what's supposed to represent a serene and enjoyable experience, by way of carrying the Aveda branding? I am amazed that the place is still in business considering in the middle of the week, you can find 2 stylists on the floor and FOUR people manning the front desk. I can't even imagine how they stay open with all that payroll - OR if you know the salon business -I beg to ask how underpaid are the stylists for holding that chair? If the management cared about their customers, what about a comment box at the front? Iinstead I went online and sent this write up via their website. If you have suggestions, please send them directly to the salon and post here. First - remove the McDonalds/CarlsJr/Taco Bell color scheme. You're in the Southwest, if you want to impress a "RED" theme - take your cues from the brilliant sunset reds of your neighbor Sedona. 2nd suggestion - change to the gel nail polish brand Shellac - it's easier to apply and doesn't shrink under the UV light.
