I truly have never dealt with any hair stylist as unqualified and rude as the owner of this salon, Don. I came in asking if there was availability for a blowout, saying that my schedule was flexible, and he told me he was available now. After repeatedly trying to tell him what I wanted, he gave me a horribly frizzy, rough blow dry while insulting my hair the entire time. When I told him it wasn't what I expected, he *offered me the blow dryer* and said your hair won't do that, here you try. In the middle of the blow out he scratched me so hard I literally needed to go out and buy antibiotic cream for it afterwards. Picture is after several hours of antibiotic treatment. After he was done rough drying, he added an insane amount of product that made it look as oily as day 4 hair. Thankfully a very, very sweet second stylist offered to redo it and she did an incredible job. I tipped her well, as she deserved, because she was in the middle of another appointment. She was able to give me what I asked for, so I guess my hair wasn't the problem after all. If the owner is reading this, this is for you: looking through other reviews I can see that you've been calling your clients liars if they give you negative feedback and have been telling them that's there's audio and video footage. That's wonderful news. You should go back and watch that footage to learn how to never, ever treat a client again. Utterly insane behavior. read more

i tried to book a mother's day appointment for my mom the other day. as i was in contact with don, on the phone he sounded very sweet & helpful. i know i called when he was home and that was accidental, i do not live in az, and i am 3 hours ahead, so converting our time difference was another hassle. however, when my mom got there, she showed her inspo pic and he turned her away. ( no problem with that, he was honest about not being able to color her hair that day) my problem came when she had just asked for a hair cut and he turned her away and said for her to go somewhere else. another problem i had was the day of her appointment he called two hours before her appointment and pushed it an hr back, ( she was scheduled for 12, her appointment was pushed to 1). she had said he made it seem as if he didn't want to do her hair at all anyways. i did get my $20 deposit refunded. read more

I would 1000% recommend to AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST! Went in and made an appointment on Friday with THE OWNER. Showed him what I wanted. He said no problem this is what I will have to do and gave me a price and how long it would take. Fair, I put my deposit down and was excited for this morning to get my hair done. I get there and he asks me what I want again and I show him the same picture, he then starts talking about doing something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I ask questions as a customer is paying MULTIPLE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS to get my hair done by him and he was rude and condescending. He seemed frustrated I wouldn't go through with the new idea he wanted. I expressed to him, like an adult, my frustrations and his comment to me was "well I haven't seen you in 6 months and you expect me to work a miracle". He agreed to this "miracle" on Friday when he took my deposit. After his tone and his condescending remarks I said keep my deposit I will go somewhere else. He then f**k you you stupid b***h you came in here to pick a fight. No I actually came in with money to PAY FOR A SERVICE I WAS TOLD YOU COULD DO but he continued to scream at the top of his lungs to get out you f*****g b***h multiple times. He then follow me out of the business calling me a b***h to the whole plaza. So as a RETURNING PAYING customer who was just expressing what I was wanting and willing to be paid for and then treated like that is ridiculous!! read more

immediately when I got there, the owner pushed me to take off my jacket. I told him I was fine and that I wanted it on and he was making excuses telling me he didn't want any hair dye on it, even though with the drape, it was completely covered. He made me really uncomfortable. My fiancé was paying for my hair and really wanted to watch my hair be done and the owner had told him he needed to leave and that he didn't need to be sitting around because there was going to be more people coming in. Which is understandable, but No one else came in so my fiancé could've stayed. he was very rude to my fiance and myself. He talked me out of the hair that I actually wanted and said it would take too long, but he came up with another idea and I ended up getting that done, he was really rough and tugging at my hair. When he was drying off my hair, he didn't completely dry my hair and I left the salon with my hair damp and crunchy.Usually hairstylist style your hair a little bit before you leave, but he didn't style my hair at all. also when I was checking out, he tried convincing me to buy shampoo and conditioner and I told him that I was considering it, but I would have to wait until my next paycheck because the hair itself is already expensive and he was being really pushy and rude and said don't come back to me if your hair is messed up in a week, he ended up convincing my fiance to buy $40 shampoo and $40 conditioner, which I didn't need. He had said that if I didn't like it that I could return it, I ended up not using it. And I wanted to get a refund so I contacted the store and left a voicemail Asking if I could come in and return the shampoo and conditioner and get my $84 back. I had also told him that the day after I got my hair done I had taken a shower and my towel was bleached and I believe it's because he didn't fully rinse out my hair and I brought that to his attention and he got really frustrated and rude with me, and then he proceeded to block me. my overall experience was awful and I will not be going there again and I highly do not recommend it. He's very rude and pushy. And he treats his clients like shit. My hair turned out OK in the end, but it is not what I wanted and it is way too expensive. Nidia did a wonderful job getting my natural dark brown hair to a vibrant platinum blonde. However, I went in for a root touch up 3 months later and my experience was terrible. I told her I wanted a shadow root and did not want the bleach on my scalp, she did say she could get as close as possible but it wouldn't look exactly like the photo I showed since my hair was darker; fair enough. My roots were NOT touched up. She simply did foils on the rest of my hair, leaving my roots completely untouched! I messaged her a few hours after my appointment once arriving home and noticing the solid line that still remained from my roots. She said to fix it would be an additional $100 after the $300 of service I paid for them to be touched up in the first place. After sending her a photo of the evident roots not being touched up I was ignored and never got a response. Unfortunately I DO NOT recommend this place. read more

Do NOT go here unless you want your hair BUTCHERED by the owner. I went in for a trim with some face framing curtain bangs. The first time was a pleasant experience (the lady is a sweetheart), but the bangs were just a bit uneven. I ended up going in a few days later to get them evened out by the owner, and he completely ruined my hair. He basically gave me a bowl cut and the THICKEST bangs possible. He cut off all of my face framing pieces, and I was left with choppy/blunt bangs. I told him repeatedly that I do NOT want more bangs, I honestly just want them blended/evened so I can style them into my hair. But he just started chopping off chunks of my hair. I have talked to so many people about this, and I am unfortunately not the only one who has their hair ruined by the owner. read more

The owner is the most rude and unprofessional man I have ever met. The comments he makes about his clients, as he is actively doing their hair btw, is appalling. He acts like they are an inconvenience to him. He has made several racist/sexist comments just out of the blue, has made creepy suggestive comments about several 20-something girls, and refuses to do black hair because it's "too hard". Even if his work is good, I can guarantee if is not worth the emotional damage you will get from him. The other stylists and employees are absolute sweethearts and it's a goddam miracle they can put up with him. Don is an old man with the personality and temperament of a hormonal teenage boy, yet talks shit like a pre-teen girl. Don has been cutting and coloring my hair for the last couple of years (maybe even three years?). The quality of the services and products offered is high. The cost for a cut and style is super reasonable and given the quality of the service, so worth it. When I first started coming in, my hair was damaged and processed. My goal was to get some healthy length. I try and see Don every eight weeks for a trim and because of that my hair is longer AND healthier. I always leave with a great haircut and the ColorProof products are amazing. The salon itself is modern, I love the art. This was my review one year ago: Normally I don't mind waiting a few moments if the stylist is running behind - it happens. However, I do mind when not only is he running behind but then he spends about 10 minutes chit chatting with his friend at the counter. I was the only patron there and sat around feeling uncomfortable. Decent haircut but rather underwhelming for the price. August 2108: Following this I received a message from Don who threatened to sue me for my review. I have posted a picture of this exchange. He then wrote a comment that he recently deleted. I had a picture of it and have posted it. In this comment he denies he knows me, tells me I'm a scam and tells me I stole product. He then tells me I sho go back to the Rez and steal. He has told me multiple times he will take me to court over this and I have responded that I am willing to comply with any legal issues he wishes to pursue. On his most updated comment (one year after the original haircut) he tells me to come in so he can call the police. I cannot believe he would be so upset about an honest review ONE YEAR later. It is creepy, unprofessional and annoying. However, the worst part of this encounter has been his racist undertones. The purpose of yelp is to give honest feedback and reviews. I hope other customers see how the owner has been treating me. Ask yourself if you want to support a business that has fixated on my negative review for almost a year now, has accused me of stealing, has told me to "go back to the Rez," (I don't live on the Rez but definitely don't appreciate the racist undertones) and has threatened legal action for posting my opinion on his services. Additionally he has accused me of being a disgruntled ex employee and have written this review out of spite. If anything, that untruth is more likely cause for legal action. read more

Honestly, if I could give 0 stars I would. He cut myself, husband, and children's hair ($40/person, even the kids). We ALL had to go get it fixed elsewhere. My hairstylist of nine years moved and I was drawn by the location, so I decided to come to Don three weeks before my brothers wedding...worst mistake! It's been almost one year since that horrible haircut and I'm still working on correcting his hack job. I had worked hard for three years to grow my hair to one length, I went in and asked for a small trim. He proceeded to add layers, without me asking or approving. He essentially left a shelf of hair (see pics). When I addressed it to him he proceeded to repeatedly tell me it was like that when I came in so he "trimmed" both "shelves" of hair. I left furious and out $120! I then had to go pay someone big bucks to try and fix it. I have been to two hairstylists since the worst haircut of my adult life and both stylists are shocked at what he did to my hair and say it is one of the absolute worst haircuts they have ever seen. I was also extremely put off by his demeanor; with the client before me they were bashing women who weren't "as pretty" in a bar or something. When it was my turn, he proceeded to look me over and immediately ask if I was Mormon...I told him no, I was not, and then his words "your dressed up so I just figured you were Mormon" Edit: his "rebuttal" - that I yelled at my husband! Haha! My husband felt so bad for me he went and bought me a cheer up gift! I also have pictures from several days before this hack job that show my hair as all one length. He created the shelf then tried to deny it and repeatedly claimed it was like that...yeah no...it wasn't. This dude can't handle a negative review to save his life. The way he handles negative reviews speaks volumes about his character. Second edit- this guy is a total whack job! My husband can validate that there was no "screaming or yelling" from me and anyone. Dude, just man up and accept a negative review and move the heck on. Guess I'll post my before picture of my hair as well. Way to share the personal information..,I won't be bullied into taking down my review. And no, we weren't recommended to you by anyone. I hope people see how you react to negative reviews and twist the truth to make the person leaving the negative review into the bad guy by telling lies. You need to review some other places to read their negative reviews and see the owners of those establishments react...you could learn a thing or two. Fantastic work. I got my hair highlighted and he did a fantastic job, I love my hair it looks great. However, I will not be going back. The staff were not masked they mentioned they were vaccinated however I was not at the time which made me weary. I felt obligated to not wear a mask also. Not the best for introverted customers or POC, trans people, etc. Many comments by the stylist were made during my visit in regard to trans people, native people, and people who are less fortunate. Great service however many prejudice, homophobic, transphobic, and class-phobic undertones. If you are not white, straight, and from Scottsdale you will notice this and most likely be uncomfortable. I was able to get my hair done because of a stimulus check but I dare not mention that because I felt I might receive backlash. read more

Was really excited to find a gift certificate an old friend gave me awhile ago for the salon and called to make an appt. The guy was really friendly until I mentioned the certificate and he questioned me about where I got it and basically accused me of stealing it. Then told me it was expired though there is clearly no exp date on the card. I have never stolen anything and don't appreciate someone accusing me of such when I just wanted a haircut. Who knows, maybe I would have really liked the salon and come back as a regular customer. Guess we'll never know. read more

You specifically said "if you cheat on me I will be so upset". I came back only because I had told you over the phone I wanted a true balayage, and to go a different direction with my hair. You assured me you were capable of doing this, yet when I arrived and we began discussing what I wanted, you became overwhelmed & said what I wanted could not be done. I went to another salon the next day and it was done exactly the way I had described to you, and perfectly the way I wanted it. It was easy! Maybe you were just having a really bad day, like you said, and your anger at me was "nothing personal", but you lost a client you said was one of your best clients. One of the stressful aspects of moving is finding a stylist that you trust with your hair, your cut and your color. I moved to Flagstaff in late October of last year, and, after a few unsuccessful rolls of the dice at another local salon, I was fortunate to find McSweeney's one evening while walking my dogs. How good is Don? Well, it s a regular weekly occurrence for strangers to stop and compliment me on my hair. I find myself in conversations about my hair when I travel, people are so affected by it, they have to talk to me about it-and they are disappointed when they find out my stylist isn't local. Don is an artist, a stylist whom is very, very good at what he does. It's not easy to get great results with curly, thick hair nor is it easy to create a beautiful copper red with color-and Don does both wonderfully. He's fun and easy to talk to and a professional. If you choose to have Don as a stylist, you'll be as grateful as I am! read more
