I been coming to Recycle It since I could not find a place that can redeem plastic bottles and cans. I was told by businesses in Pleasant Hill and Martinez that Recycle It would be faster service compare to going to Concord Recycling Center. When I come to this location I already got my plastic bottles and cans separated which impresses the people that work there. I am in and out within five minutes. I am aware of plastic bottles and cans to be separated which I have seen other people still separating theirs which they take longer to do. Very straight forward, just put your cans and bottles in the bins and then they will weight them. Somebody will give you a piece of paper with the weight, which you will turn in at a small window and they will pay you for whatever your recylables weigh. read more

This place is nothing but bs. They seem to close earlier and earlier every week. So the hell closes at 2:45 pm? And they don't really close at that time, they close the gate at 2:30 which means your not getting inside. At 2:45 they are leaving the property. Also, try and take copper there and they will offer about $2.30 per pound. Go to Aaron Bros. And you get $4.75 per pound. Big difference. Cans, and bottles? You get a small percentage of what the actual trade in value is, because they go by weight instead of offering the refund per receptacle. I'm giving this recycle center a 5 star because they recycle cans, bottles, and glass in exchange for cash. I was frustrated how their were no more recycling centers for the cans, bottles, and glass around me. I was told by a family member about this place. I have always been coming here and will continue to do so. Really coordinated and parking is not a hassle. A guy will bring bins for you to dump your things. Each bin must be sorted out and they are weighed at the scale. You fill out a form and wait in line by the window to redeem your cash exchange. Updated review - I posted my receipt in photos. A years worth of cans and bottles totaled $15. I had about four bags worth or recycling. For $15 I will start recycling curbside. I think this place is good for folks that have ample space to store their recycling and them come in with a truck bed of stuff. For me to sort throughout the year, crush, drive to Martinez, deal with the dusty and time consuming process it's not worth it unfortunately. My car got dusty being there and $15 will barely cover a drive through car wash. Protip - sort your materials as you store them at home to make the process faster! Cans, plastic bottles, brown glass, green glass, and coconut water type firm metal containers all separate. Keep the lids off the plastic bottles, but they can stay in the same bin. The facility is in back. Back your car up and put each color/type of recycling in its own bucket (provided). Drag them over to the line and they will weigh them, verify your ID and give you cash on the spot. read more

Looked at multiple sources to find out the business hours, only to arrive 2 hours before "closing"....to find out it was a LIE. They close 2 hours and 15 minutes before the business pages say. Drove clear from far East County with more than 50 bags of recycling. As I looked deeper while standing in the driveway entrance... Website linked to business is shut down. No surprise. Phone number goes to a voicemail that is full and can't accept calls. Really now? Brunette lady in a red t-shirt wandering around the parking lot completely ignoring people at the gate, avoiding any eye contact....but playing in her car, going in/out the building...almost as if to give the middle finger to what were to be customers. Just rude. Bad business practices. Update your business hours...it's 2023, takes 10 minutes to keep the customers in the loop on the internet. Well..what were customers..... What a great find! It was perfectly and conveniently located when/where I lived in Contra Costa County. It would get busy on certain days, but it wasn't so bad, the recyclers were all patient and considerate enough to wait their turn, our turns for each vehicle to empty their items. I never went on the weekends, but I don't doubt those days were much busier. Im not 100% sure if their pay out rates are competitive or average, different recyclers use different forms to gauge the recyclables value, some weigh a vehicle, remove the items to recycle and reweigh the vehicle, some weigh the recyclables and others count the number of cans/bottles. Recycle It, has done both for me, maybe for others, don't know, but they typically count the recyclable items and pay out accordingly. I no longer live in Contra Costa County, so its no longer a convenience for me or my schedule, its actually a pain especially due to COVID and the distance. But it was, at one time a feel good experience, as I was doing my part to help the planet and reducing waste. The staff at the time were really nice and friendly, too. read more

After using the "Recycle It" center in my city (Pittsburg), I appreciate this location (Martinez) quite a bit. There was no line to recycle, and no line to collect your monies, no waiting in the hot sun, the staff was helpful and kind, and no dealing with people trying to cut lines etc. I live my city and will return to that location for convenience reasons but I think this spot has it together. My only complaint is, the receipt says 1 by cans and 2 by glass. But I dropped off 1 bucket of cans and 3 buckets of glass. They said they gave me the right amount but their receipts should.leave no confusion. I won't rate them low for it cuz everything else outweighed that. Hope they aren't shady, tho. Lol read more

As a child my grandpa and I made a monthly day of taking loads of cans to the recycler to get some cash. He would split the money with me every time because I helped. So I saved up a bag of cans and dragged my kids down here to turn in our cans for some cash. You have to load your own cans into bins that are waiting for you then you drag them over to stand in line to be weighed. They have board on the wall that shows the pay outs for different recyclable items. I did some quick math in my head and compared it to what I thought I had in can weight and I expected about $28. I loaded my stuff up the guy weighed it and I saw the total weight which I guessed right and I saw it said $30 then he hit a button and it went down to $10. I only got $10 back? I'm not the best at math but something seemed off. I got our money and we went to McDonald's for lunch. I'm going to come back and try again because the location is close to my house. Ill see what 3 bags should add up to. Because as it stands it looks like 3 bags is $30. One full black garbage bag is only $10. read more

We use this spot all the time to recycle. They are quick and honest. Much cleaner than most recycling spots. Even the things you cant recycle for money they will usually let you dump on the side of the parking lot. Be aware if you are recycling questionable metals they will put a hold on it until it clears, but we can blame that on those idiots stealing peoples car parts and copper wiring. Overall, the easiest way to be nice to our planet is to recycle whatever you can! read more

I had biked from my home a few miles away to recycle two small bags of cans. I arrived at 4:15 and they gates were closed and I was turned away. Website says they are open until 4:30. The guy who came to the gate says they have to close early, otherwise they have a line. They should change their hours instead of misleading potential customers like this. read more

Place is extremely dirty the gentleman that are working or not extremely friendly and the pay out seems very low.

This place is a great place to recycle items. They accept items beyond the cans & bottles and such, so check their website for a list or call them as they are very courteous about answering questions. They seem very honest and the payouts per pound are fair & competitive. The yard is kept neat and a clean as can be expected in an industrial setting and for the work they do there. Parking is also plentiful with plenty of room to unload safely. We used to bring cans and plastic "items" (i.e. bottles) to the recycler in Concord on Concord Blvd (i.e. sorry no name bashing) which has been their for decades as it used to be only place around before recycling became more "chic" and pre-CA redemption era. But the volume of customers now there have gotten ridiculous, the lines long and tedious and the parking in their small location borderline dangerous. Plus the place is not kept as clean as it should, so it's nice to have a recycling option much closer to home offering good redemption value. Even if you don't live local it may be worth the drive to check it out. We recommend this place to family and friends with confidence. read more

I'm done with this place. Yesterday I arrived at 4:00 and had no problem recycling a number of bags of glass. Since I'm disabled, I was happy to tip one of their guys $5 after he kindly helped me pour the bottles into their required plastic containers. Seemed like a decent place. Today I went back at the identical time of day with cans and plastic bottles, only to find their gates locked. When one of the employees opened the gate to let a car leave I asked why they closed early and he said "We already have a lot of people in there. If we let any more in we won't get out of here on time. Come back tomorrow." That's completely ridiculous! What a total waste of time and gas for me. If you advertise that you're open 'til 4:30 you need to be accepting customers until that time. What makes them think they get to leave at 4:30? Plus, there are only a few recycling centers left in our area, and a lot of people are trying to scrounge up any money they can during COVID, so they ought to be expecting higher demand and adjusting to it. When I waited tables, if customers showed up 5 mins before we closed we still served them, no matter what (even if the kitchen was 90% clean already). It's called customer service, and it's really not difficult. I sincerely hope their owner or manager reads this, as I see at least one other review with the identical issue. Went to go and recycle some metal this morning. The gate says they open at 8am, the internet says 8:15am. When I get there, a very rude employee comes to the gate and says they don't open until 8:30am. Now I'm on Yelp and Yelp says they open at 9:30am. This place is ridiculous. Get your stuff together. Come up with an opening time and stick to it. When a business is coming to recycle they don't have time to sit around until you feel like opening. Choose an opening time and stick to it. read more

I have been going to the Recycling Zone in Martinez for many years. I have not had any problems until today. For whatever reason their computer system is no longer functional. While I was pulling up my cans of recycling, the gentleman asked me to fill out a form; during which time he continued pulling up and processing my cans. While the next person was processing my recycling I noticed one of the cans of glass was missing. When I asked about the it the person basically exploded with a barrage of verbal abuse. As it turns out the can was not pulled up by the employee who assisted me while I was filling out the form. I understand it was my responsibility to pull up my own cans but this was one was simply missed. But instead of being understanding he was extremely rude. I understand he was stressed out and overworked but that is no reason to take that out on customers. I apologized and thanked him but going forward I will strongly consider another recycling center. read more

They have a very friendly staff here! I would suggest coming early as it does get busy but the line does go by really fast. Also make sure to take off your bottle caps from the plastic bottles and if you are recycling glass you have to sort them by color so just a heads up. read more

Okay, this place isn't fancy, but what recycling place is ? I've had a huge old-style monitor, couple towers, microwave, laptop, various computer junk sitting around for way too long as didn't know where to take it. As to cans, bottles, etc., the Walnut Creek recycling has closed as has the little stand at PH Safeway. Glad this place is around. I had to pay to drop off the microwave, but didn't want to put it in the trash and what else was I going to do with it. At first, it's tricky to find it but there is a sandwich board on the street outside, so look for that. Lot's of parking space. Pull up, start emptying your stuff, then stand in line for them to weigh it etc., and go to the cashier for your $. read more
