My home in Walnut Creek has sunk into the ground, thanks to a neighbor's Japanese bathhouse and leaky drain pipe. Question: What to do with the refrigerator? Answer: Bay Area Recycle! After losing faith in Craig's List over the years, I had no idea what to do with my appliances and furnishings. I also wanted my items to "give back" to humanity. So, I called Bay Area Recycle. They were extremely helpful, informative and professional. They were unable to take my furnishings, but they referred me to someone who could help (Salvation Army and Bay Area Crisis Nursery). They WERE able to take my refrigerator for $35 cash, in a timely manner-- 2 days later! They removed the appliance from the storage unit, so I did not have to do any heavy lifting. Overall, an excellent experience. Why only 4 stars, and not 5? Well, they only accepted cash; and they only take electronics and appliances. However, I want to reiterate-- these folks are wonderful! I needed to remove a Calif. King Mattress. I got 3 quotes: $150, $139 & $130. I thought those quotes were outrageous. My friend told me to call Bay Area Recycle. They quoted me: $40 for curbside pick-up or $65 to come up one-flight of stairs and remove it from my apartment. 2 guys showed up on time and the price I signed for was the price I was quoted. Plus, they recycle as much of the mattress as they can whereas the other companies just take it to the Dump. read more

I had a really bad experience with this company. I told them I could not move my TV outside by myself and needed help doing so. They said no problem. Then when they arrived they wanted to charge me $30 to go down a flight of stairs. When I said that a fee was never mentioned when I called them ,the guy rudely told me that most people know that they should tell them there are stairs. I told him that they should have asked me that on the phone and then I asked him to leave. He then apologized for his attitude and took the TV down the stairs for free. FINALLY! A company that does what they say they will do. I had a dryer I needed to get rid of and the NEXT DAY the guy shows up hauls it away. He also was full helpful advice on the different kind of dryers I might want to replace the old one. I had this stove I needed to get rid of. First off a called a couple other places before decided on BAR. I got the answering machine when I called, left a message and someone returned my call within two hours. I spoke with a woman who was friendly, informative and helpful. Even though I was out of their pick up area the price was cheaper (by over $50) than the other companies I called that were 10 minutes away. They were very easy to deal with and picked up the oven as promised. They also accept credit cards. i will keep them in mind if I need to get rid of anything else. read more

Easy to reach via phone -- however, I was a bit annoyed that the truck did not come for my items until end of day (even though they requested for my items to be out by 8am). I paid $50 for a mattress and box spring removal which is a lot cheaper than the quotes I received from different local companies. read more

Easy and great experience. I needed to get rid of a gross box spring that I stupidly took off of someones hands. I called this morning and they came out about 2 hours later and took it away. They took my credit card over the phone so it sounds like they now accept them and not just cash (as mentioned in the other review). Super easy and so glad to get rid of that thing. read more

This company was just great. I had a huge TV I thought I would never get rid of . I called Bay Area Recycle, they said they would take it for free if I could leave it on the porch. But, the TV was to big for me to move, so they had to come inside. The charge for this was $15, a great deal. Then they told me what day they would come and gave me a three hour window. The mover called when he was on the way to my apartment. He was extremely nice, professional and efficient. When I asked for a receipt for cash, he said they usually send it online, but since I had not given them my email address, he went down to his truck and filled out a receipt for me. We had to get rid of a refrigerator, stove, small couch, and a bed. We were from out of town so to do ourselves we would have had to rent a truck and other equipment and haul it away. One call to Bay Area Recycle was all it took. Jeremy showed up when he said he would and cheerfully and quickly took care of everything. It was worth every penny.
