I only give this business three stars because of the Customer Service. They open at 8:30 AM on Fridays. I showed up at 9:07am and everyone outside was having breakfast, I got out of my vehicle so I can get my bags and someone shouted at me saying are you here to shred? I said yes, he said can you please wait! as he was finishing eating his breakfast . I was in a rush, I waited 3 minutes. He was still eating his breakfast wasn't even turning my way so I decided to leave. I dropped off a banker box of film and negatives. $25. They don't shred photos while you wait. Because this is a hazardous waste kind of thing they have to shred separate from paper stuff so they wait until the shredder bin is full. Just know that your photos will be sitting around in a bin in a locked area for an indeterminate amount of time before they will be shredded. They have a huge monitor showing the shredding action going on behind locked doors. It's pretty cool to see. I needed to shred a large garbage bag full of financial documents. For individuals (versus businesses), this usually means taking it to Office Depot, Staples, UPS, or other places where your documents are put into a locked bin that is collected for shredding by a third party. I didn't feel comfortable with this. I was able to bring my documents to Shred Defense, see them empty the contents on a conveyor belt, and then watch on a video monitor as the materials went through the shredder. The fee was only $7.00! You'll need to drive to Richmond, but it's worth it given the price, particularly if you don't have a large quantity. (There are a few businesses in Marin who offer shred-as-you-watch" services for consumers but more expensive -- $40-150). **Please note -- most Bay Area businesses offering this service are currently closed during the Coronavirus "shelter in place" order. Shred Defense was open on 3/17/20, but they're not certain as to the status of their operations for the next few weeks....so call before you go! read more

I was looking for a place to do the shredding for our business (Accutech Auto Care Inc.) and I heard from a friend that this shop had good prices and were very nice. when I spoke to Ernest, he seemed very nice and accommodating and told me to stop by whenever I had time. When we pulled up, I was wondering how we were going to unload all the boxes that the guys back at our shop helped us load. A gentleman saw me pull up and asked if I needed any help with the boxes, and two more of the gentlemen there immediately stooped what they were doing and said they would unload the boxes for us. I found this place through Yelp and drove 45 minutes from the north bay to use this service. I called and believe I spoke to Nancy. She was so informative, friendly and thorough in instructions (what to expect upon arrival, best route of entry, etc). I drove out the same day making it just before closing. It was such a convenient set up and inexpensive. Upon arrival, I drove up and someone came out with a cart. Ordinarly you would retrieve a cart to load it with your documents but fotunately I had help from one of their workers due to my mobility issues. I was a bit disorganized with having my items ready to throw in the cart but the worker was very patient and accomodating. I can only imagine how frustrating it can be for a customer to show up just before closing and not have documents ready to go. I did not get a chance to view the shredding of the documents as they were closing up shop but they do have a set up that allows you to watch the shredding. I wish I could remeber the name of the worker who helped me. He was so friendly, patient and helpful. read more

Found No Trace online and all I can see is that they are GREAT! For $5 per banker's box you can watch them fully destroy all your old documents, checks, credit cards, CD's and more. We had 31 boxes of old accounting records and I watched them disappear (they have a TV screen hooked up so you can watch the action). They were really nice and offer great, friendly service. The best part is that all the paper gets recycled and used for toilet paper and cereal boxes here in the US. It doens't sit in the landfill. Yesterday I came here and worked with a young Latino guy who was very professional and even assisted me with getting my shreds out of my car. Unfortunately, today I had the pleasure of dealing with Chris who seemed like he was in such a rush he first stuck my card in and it said declined. I told him I think you took it out too quickly because there is more than enough on the card. He states okay and stuck it in again and charges me $358.92 for something that was suppose be $14.00! Absolutely Amazing! I have never been so compelled to write a review, but the customer service and ease of service has me in awe. I am in the midst of selling my home, as a result so many paper bank statements, old bills and personal document have accumulated. I've seen this company when filing documents at the court house in the adjacent parking lot, but never paid too much attention. I spoke to Nancy, she was very courteous and helpful. She gave me directions on how to get to the building so I wasn't wandering around looking for the entrance and quoted me a price of $5 per banker box. I was like whoa, that's not bad I can get rid of all these documents for $15-$20 bucks! I was thinking that maybe there was some hidden fees associated with the cost. Upon arriving it was so easy to drive up, they have great signage where to press the bell. I loved it! A gentleman walked out and I said I had spoken to Nancy earlier that afternoon and I had some documents I needed shredded. He handed me a cart with wheels and I got all of the documents out of my trunk. Rolled the cart back to the ring the bell area, he looked at it and said that's about one box. I said are you sure? I think its at least 2 or more, he smiled and said it wasn't that much $5 bucks! I was stunned, the whole process took me 20 minutes including travel time to and from my house.
