We recently moved, and had boxes of mail to shred so we scheduled a pickup with Bay Shred. They told us: "We'll call you thirty minutes before we come over". Then a few days before, we got a worse-than-the-cable guy window of 10:30am - 4pm. We have already moved out of the old place, so this was important -- both my wife & I work, so we couldn't just hang out at an old place with no internet. Two hours passed, and I thought, "What's the most likely failure mode? Calling my wife's phone or forgetting to call?". So I called them and was told "Oh they'll be there in an hour." An hour passed. No call. So I called again, "They're on their way!". Finally it was 3pm, so I drove half an hour back to our old place, on the theory they would have to be there by 4pm... right? No calls on the way to our place, so I called them once I got there. "Let me see if we can find the driver!". Then came the admission that the driver had actually dropped by our place around 1pm, but had simply forgotten to call either of us [!]. I don't rightly know how you can forget this since it was part of the engagement and I called about it repeatedly throughout the day... Anyway, after another 30 minutes of waiting at the empty house in which dispatch told me she would work it out with the operations center. When she finally got back in touch with me, she told me that well, the business closes at 5pm, and well, would I be available the next Tuesday? This was Thursday. Anyway, she promised the driver would be disciplined. I don't really care about that -- maybe this one driver is a screwup, but if your business processes can end up with someone having a _five day_ delay, they don't seem very robust. In fact, they're so bad it made me skeptical of whether I would trust them with shredding personal documents. Anyway, I'd spent so much time at our old house it was rush hour so it took an hour getting home (normal travel time: 20 minutes). My wife & I cancelled the order and we're just carrying the boxes ourselves to another vendor. Maybe they dont make house calls that often? Their website makes it seem like they do, and if so, I just don't think anybody should give this company their business. Honestly, I feel like they owe *me* some money for wasting so much of my time. read more

Bay Shred - My call log - Shredding Services Near Me - San Francisco, California

recently used a shredding service in San Mateo for a large stack of old financial documents, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The staff was friendly, efficient, and clearly focused on security. They walked me through the process, answered every question, and made sure everything was handled safely. The pricing was straightforward with no surprise fees, and the drop-off took less than five minutes. The facility was clean, organized, and easy to access with plenty of parking. If you're looking for a reliable and secure shredding service in San Mateo -- whether for a one-time purge or ongoing business needs -- this place is a solid choice. Highly recommended. read more

Very helpful for getting rid of digital information leftover from an estate sale. Easy to book, pay, and they came through with picking the boxes at the time scheduled. They accept old floppy discs, CD's, hard drives, all for a reasonable price! read more

These guys are great!! Carrie was professional and clear with her directions. She was also very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. The process was fast and totally painless. Wow! Where do I start? From the moment Brooke answered the phone to the end of my shredding service everything was absolutely fabulous!! Seriously.. I had called a different shred it company and they didn't show up for 3 different days.. so I googled shredding near me and Bay Shred came up! Thankfully.. Brooke was so very friendly, professional and courteous. She set my appointment up and sent a confirmation email. Today their driver showed up as scheduled and he was just as great as Brooke was. He did all the lifting of the paper by putting it in his rolling bin. He took it to his big truck loaded it up and off it went to shredville.. I was even able to watch everything being shredded on their video camera. I 1000% recommend Bay Shred. read more

The absolute best place to shred documents, destroy hard drives and recycle old PCs. Excellent service and value. Highly recommended!! read more

Cassie was fabulous and explained the process to have many boxes of sensitive paperwork shredded. The cost was fantastic and much more inexpensive than using Iron Mountain or one of the larger shredding companies. It was easy to arrange the truck and everything went without a hitch. I would highly recommend Bay Shred for any of your shredding needs. The driver came to our business 30 minutes early, was fast and efficient. We will definitely use Bay Shred in the future and hope you will use Bay Shred, too! The company is a "10" as far as I am concerned for service, cost, efficiency, and follow-up to make certain everything went well. Please check out Bay Shred - you will be glad you did! read more

As a psychologist in long time private practice, now retired, I have accumulated hundreds of thousands of pages of records over the years. File cabinets fill up, and then storage units fill up, and then bigger storage units fill up. Eventually you reach the point where you don't need them anymore and shredding becomes the solution. I have used Bay Shred several times, always with delightful results. Their truck shows up on time, you can watch the paperwork get destroyed, and the convenience of the service is great. A special compliment goes to Carrie Darnell, who has been my contact with the company for years. She has kept in touch with me across my multiple moves and our contacts are always positive and upbeat -- she has come to feel like an old friend who calls now and then to check in on my progress. I used to manage in a customer facing organization, and I would have loved to have a dozen of her on my staff. read more

Scheduling was a breeze, called 15 mins prior to arrival. Took less than 1/2 hour. The driver/shredder was very nice. I would highly recommend them. read more

Easy to schedule, reliable, great communication at all hours every day of the week. Showed up on time and worked quickly.

Bay Shred is the BEST on site shredding! Brooke in the office is friendly. Jose the on site operator if Bay Shred was, professional, called us before he came over and friendly. The pricing is not bad at all. The more you have to shred the less expensive it was per box. I highly recommend them! We had 22 boxes to shred and it was fast! read more

This is the company to choose. The administrator brooke goes out of her way to make sure you have a good & efficient experience. They are quick, friendly, & very professional. They also provide a certificate to prove secure shredding has been done. They make it as simple as possible...no hassle or red tape The pricing is great & more than fair b/c they literally come right to your doorstep. read more

Outstanding service. We were purging about 20 banker boxes of documents accumulated over the years. First of all, Brooke was so helpful on the phone in helping me to know about what the charges would be. Other companies were not able to translate amounts for me at all. Secondly, she had estimated that they could respond within one day's notice when I was ready . . . and they did. The guy (super-courteous) called 15 mins before arrival and carried the papers to a bin and and then directly to the shredding truck . . . where we watched a machine shred it on the spot before leaving our house. Charges VERY reasonable . . . Highly recommend BAY SHRED read more

*** 8/13Update*** Kathy called my mom and was going to put her on the schedule if I remove this review. In essence it validates the review. You don't get to erase a true review of the service you didn't provide by doing what should have been done in the first place to fix a situation your staff created** My mom and aunt were clearing out their sisters home as they recently moved her into an assisted living facility. They had an appointment window with this dreadful company from 10am to 1pm to destroy 15-20 boxes of documents. The driver called my mom at 8am stating he will be at my aunts house in five minutes. My mom goes "Our appointment window is 10-1pm". She then tells him she can be there by 930 as she had to rearrange her schedule to rush over there. The driver says ok but then never shows up. My mom then calls the office and spoke to Kathy? She offered to reschedule to the following week. Unfortunately the new appointment wouldn't work as the house is being prepped to be sold and my mom had other appointments she couldn't change. She calls me and I could tell she was irritated. I called the company hoping to get this resolved. When the phone was answered, I asked for a manager due to the situation's escalation. Kathy? announced she was a partner in the business. I explained to her the situation but before I ending she could finish recapping the situation she cuts me off as she goes "I'm aware of this situation". I asked what can she do since the error was on their side. She goes "It doesn't matter at this point and there is nothing I can do today". Rather than deal with the poor customer service from an owner, I hung up the phone. If this is how a partner in the business speaks to a customer, its no wonder their employee has the same lackadaisical attitude when dealing with customers. read more

I am sure they are a great company, but they don't shred at 1515 Chestnut, and they don't even receive material at 1515 Chestnut. Further, their location is not in San Francisco, and this listing is "gaming" the Yelp and Google listing systems using some loop-hole. Disappointed for wasting my time and . read more

The sales rep, Carrie, was fantastic. She was very personable and helpful. She scheduled the day and time at my choosing. The shredding truck driver, Martin, called to advise me that he would be arriving in 40 minutes. He arrived on-time as promised and was very efficient. He was also very personable and explained the process then showed me the viewing port as the shredding was being completed. Then you are certain that all documents that were placed into the shredding container have been shredded. Bay Shred's price was the lowest quote I received but it was the best service compared to other shredding companies I've used in the past. read more

Bay Shred did a superb job. I haven't written a review in over 5 years but their service was so great I feel obligated to tell everyone. The customer service by both Cassie in the office and also the driver was outstanding. I had the complication of our street being torn up and not having a driveway for the truck to park. I made an arrangement with a neighbor to park in their driveway, and all this info was responded to by Cassie and the driver with grace and a "can do" attitude. Thank you! Customer for life! read more

They are amazing to work with! Cassie was on it with scheduling and excellent customer service! I highly recommend this place!

We had formerly used a large shredding company who were quite flakey and dropped the ball right before a Shred event we are hosting. Cassie called me back immediately after submitting my request and was able to schedule a truck for our Shred event. Best customer service I've received in a long time! read more

These guys are great. They're great if you're a business. They do secure document shredding and they have a mobile trucks, so they'll even do it on-site for as little as $100. Can't beat that. They're great if you're an individual. Especially if you're an individual who happens to be a kleptomaniac (unfortunately, that includes me). I just finally cleaned out over 10 years of personal files and ended up with a large, large bag of papers with sensitive information on them. Since that large, large bag weighed just less than 25lbs, they let me take it to their location in South SF and watch as one of their trucks shredded it for only $10! For drop-off service, you have to call first for an appointment. If you have multiple 25lb bags, they're just $10 each. So like I said, they're great. Cleanse your inner Kleptomaniac. You'll feel better, I promise. read more

Small businesses PAY ATTENTION......you have credit card numbers, addresses, sometimes even socials lying around your place CLEAN IT UP!!!! We had all sorts of stuff that by law we had to keep for three years or so hang in around the store not to mention we offer shredding as one of our services here. We call upon Bay Shred when our bin gets full (or when some one cleaning out an estate brings in 300 lbs of paper) and they are out here with that day or the next. We usually have the pleasure of dealing with Joshua who is exceptional. My customers (who for some reason trust me implicitly) will dump there most sacred of materials here in my hands and then simply request I stand there the whole time the truck disintegrates it. Hell they are used to me by now.....all it takes to make this girl happy is......Come pick up other people's crap from my store.....do the work for me....let me stand there in admiration of your big ole cross cuttin loud truck and then and only then give me my certificate of DESTRUCTION!!!! I called Bay Shred on Monday. Cassie kindly gave me the scoop. Booked an appt for Wed. The truck showed up Wed morning around 8:30. The driver dumped my many boxes of old paper files into his bin. I've happily used Bay Shred a handful of times over the years whenever I have boxes of old tax returns, checking statements, cancelled checks, and other paperwork that is sensitive and needs to be shredded. Their reps are extremely responsive -- I email them and they call back within the hour, arrange payment, tell me when a truck will be in my area within the next few days, call me when they're at my home, and complete the shredding onsite. Can't recommend them more highly! read more

Great customer service provided by Carrie, who made all arrangements for me. Their truck showed up on time and on-the-spot shredding was done swiftly while I watched. It was important to me to see that my financial and other confidential records were carefully shredded. And their costs are most reasonable compared to other comparable services. I used them for about 2 years. They rarely came at the appointed time. Quite often they would not show at all--and after blowing off the appt--not contact me. I would reschedule, and again no show or late. Nice fellow, perhaps more business than they can professionally attend to. read more
